Just had a wonderful evening . Appetizer duck pancake out of this world - very special and dumplings were perfect. great bar scene. The Mu Shu duck was excellent with both a duck confit and duck slices for the mu shu. Dessert was killer with a tea soaked buttery cake with ice cream OMG serious goodness . Well, let's just say that this restaurant experience was a total fiasco. The food was not a tall as expected. I don't care if this place is in Boca Raton, when the prices are triple from the average prices and the dishes were not a big deal. The service was poor. However, I suggest to anyone don't waist time and money. The bill was extremely high based what we ordered. Example 2 egg rolls $16.00 never mind the rest of the menu, that's crazy. A new restaurant working through opening issues. The decor is inviting with multiple separate areas. The food was very good and enjoyed by all. The service was less than stellar. Our server told us that they don't serve dishes in the traditional course method and that we would be presented with all the dishes at once. This resulted in a very crowded table, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. Neither our server nor the bar tender knew the difference between Irish Whiskey and Scotch Whisky. The booth table that we sat at located close to the front of the restaurant was very unstable and moved around every time you touched it. When we sat down to begin or meal. The food was incredible! This was hands down the best general tsos chicken I've ever had. I would also highly recommend the soup dumplings, mushroom noodles, and shumai (lobster and shrimp). Everything is served family style which is great for experiencing new dishes. The drinks were refreshing as well. I had the Mt Fuji drink special which I hope finds its way onto the cocktail list. I cannot wait to come back here and try different things on the menu! Don't be fooled by the understated location on the outside. Inside the restaurant is lively and inviting. Well......just had dinner here and I don't know what to say. I'm one who is never at a loss for words but the food was that bad. I love my Chinese Ribs especially sticky ones that they offer here. Four Nice looking ribs but by the time I got to my third, the overpowering of 5 spice or whatever that was....turn off. Dan-Dan noodles.... not! Flavorless and the only way we could eat it was to add Chile oil, a soy sauce based condiment, duck sauce and Chinese mustard. By the time the dish became cold it was inedible. The soup dumplings were kind of boring and the Bao Bun tasted prefabricated. I did enjoy the shrimp toast. The young female bartender knows how to mix drinks and she was delightful as was her co-worker at the bar. I am spoiled with my Chinese food as I grew up in NYC and I enjoy authentic food here in Florida. This place was the opposite as advertised. This wasn't even close to being Chinese. The local cheap fast food Chinese take out places that I do not utilize anymore I'm sorry to say are much better then here. I don't mind spending $$ for a meal. We had high hopes for red pine, but...the prawns were farm raised wet shrimp for $42 and the fried race was tasteless. Dumplings were good, bone broth was luke warm. I expected best quality shrimp and was very disappointed. We will give it another try, as it is only 3 days old, but, if they want to compete with the great Chinese restaurants in NY and Boston, they have a long way to go. Nice staff though. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant in a weird off the beaten track location. Our waitress and service was excellent but the food was not good. Most of the dishes were so salty it was almost inedible. This is not a traditional Chinese restaurant and not traditional Chinese food. It's more Asian fusion. In addition we sat in a booth and the "L" shaped benches were very upright and uncomfortable. We loved the ambiance and showed up on a rainy night without a reservation and we were seated at the bar. Sitting at the bar turned out to be a good thing since we were able to watch everything going on. We started with the shrimp toast which was good but not the best I have had considering how large they are. We also ordered the sticky ribs which were so coated with hoisen sauce that was all that could be tasted. Last was the spicy orange duck salad which was interesting but the duck was extremely dry. These three items with tip was over $100.00. I am glad I tried Red Pine because it was on my bucket list of places to try but after eating there I feel you can get much better asian food for about a third of the price that they charge elsewhere. My overall impression was that Red Pine is overpriced for what you get and although the ambiance is nice it is not the food that is bringing people in. Service was friendly and efficient. read more

Red Pine in Boca Raton tonight for dinner with new friends (4 of us total). Fabulous meal! The duck pancake was like a small pizza and refreshingly delicious! We all shared it, sliced into 8 pieces. Chicken fried rice to share, very good. Two entrees, one short ribs with crispy onions and Bok Choy and the other, crispy chicken with fresh broccoli and shared. I ordered egg drop soup with wontons. We all shared that, too. Absolutely no room for dessert, even though we were told we should try one to share. We were too busy getting to know each other better and eating the delicious food to take any pictures (my kind of night, actually). Service was good. Tyler was alway close by but not intrusive as he saw we were chatting. Wine by the glass is super pricey, $25 so we got a bottle of Belle Glos Pino Noir (Clark and Telephone, vintner), for $70 with dinner. The couple that joined us are from NY and said Red Pine rivaled any high end, authentic Chinese they've eaten at in NY. (This was the first Chinese restaurant they've been to in Florida). The manager came to check on us a few times, too. Reservations for 6:00, we were sat promptly and by the time we left at 7:45, the place was packed. Got to love the lazy susan in the middle of the table for sharing! Make sure you ask to be seated where there is one. read more

Overall a fun experience, went with my bestie for my birthday dinner. Been wanting to try this place ever since I found out they served soup dumplings. Fairly highly priced items. We ordered the soup dumplings, Shumai, egg drop soup, and egg fried rice. The soup dumplings were fairly large. They did have a lot of soup in them, but I wished it came with black vinegar and ginger slices to help break through the richness. I'd give them a 7 out of 10. The shumai were mostly shrimp and not much lobster or flavor. I wish the dumplings came with specific sauces. I'd give the shumai a 4 out of 10. The egg drop soup, not the typical yellow color you're accustom to seeing. A slightly thicker consistency than I usually like. Also heavily tasted of ginger which was a nice addition but too much. So I'd give it a 6 out of 10. Lastly, the fried rice. Very pretty presentation. But after the first bite all I tasted was a nice Smokey flavor from the wok and lots of salt. But the rice overall wasn't over cooked. So I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. So, overall was a nice experience but not in a rush to come back unfortunately. The ambience was very nice though and the service was good. They were attentive when we needed more water or anything else. I gave it 4 out of 5 because it was a nice eating out. After two hours we were finally served two underwhelming, under-seasoned, bland, American style appetizers (one served with a long black hair, not mine). If you like expensive, salty food this is the place. Appetizers better than main courses. The appetizer ribs were excellent, as were the egg rolls. Asked the waiter how many in a portion and he said 4, when in reality it was 2 that he cut in half at the table. The soup dumplings were more like salt water dumplings. The waiter gave a whole lesson how to eat so not to get burnt by the squirting soup. There was no squirting, no soup, just a mouth full of liquid salt. On to the main courses.. lo main was very dry, on the crispy side. Walnut shrimp was popcorn shrimp that tasted as if they had been frozen with some dry walnuts sprinkled on top. Sesame beef was OK, but not great. EVERYTHING was over salty. The entire experience was like a super expensive PF Chang. The service was nice but did not make up for the lousy food. I never have to go back, and kind of sorry I even went. On another note, the restaurant is in an isolated office building with a dark parking lot. When you leave after dinner, it is too dark, and there are safety concerns. read more

Red Pine is a welcome addition to the booming restaurant scene in Boca Raton. The upscale, modern, asian influenced interior is truly divine. The food was outstanding, from the Peking Duck to the General Tao's Chicken, just incredible. And the ribs were out of this world delicious!! The music is contemporary and cool befitting of the atmosphere. I felt like I was back in New York at one of the upscale Chinese restaurants of yesteryear! The service was impeccable! Our server, Quinn, was so attentive to every detail, as I am allergic to fish and shellfish. She made sure everything was perfectly executed. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. This being said, I just can't remember a Chinese restaurant that charges extra for basic white rice which by the way is not included with your dish! Strange. The restaurant decor is beautiful. The drinks were amazing - especially the margarita. the food was a disappointment to me. My fellow diners ordered the lobster/shrimp shumai. although they said the dish was good, one diner commented that it wasn't as good as when she had the same dish here a few days ago. My order of DanDan noodles was a pile of overcooked noodles drowning in a too thick peanut sauce served in a metal bowl. Although the menu mentioned mustard greens, I couldn't find any. Duroc pork was also listed in the menu description - that must have been the scattering of gravel hard pieces of something that resembled the crusty pieces in the bottom of a roasting pan. If there was chili in the peanut sauce, no one could detect it. I had to add squeezes of lime juice to get the sauce to an edible consistency. The shrimp toast that was ordered looked okay, but did not receive rave reviews. The servers were attentive until the place got a little busy. read more

What Red Pine is not: the failed and closed Pagoda (better); the very missed, storied, and retired Uncle Tai's (worse). John's service is impeccable and hospitable, the furnishings are beautiful, but being in an office building lobby, the restaurant lacks a restroom and one must use the lobby one like casino...no big deal but just a heads up. Apps all excellent...loved the table side egg roll cutting schtick, ribs on point but was quite upset Chef hid two MUCH smaller ribs under the two larger ones as this creates poor value and unequal table sharing/distribution. XLB actually had broth in them! Entrees all overly salty, everyone agreed. Search "salty" within Yelp reviews and you'll see we're not alone. Yes, we know Chinese cuisine can be salt-heavy, but this was bad. Desserts provided for a wonderful ending. Good portion sizes all around. Mainland in CS & Blackbird in Jupiter both better options if up for the drive. Need to check out Peking Duck in Pompano one day too. Major fail: there was a hair on one dish...don't see this often. Brisket was best thing ordered and even that wasn't memorable compared to Blackbird's version. Didn't like seeing the fake chef partner 5* review in the early days, but let that slide. They've got some work to do if they want to be around in this town for the long haul, though not the worst start overall. And that includes more attractive lunch & HH pricing. read more
