I guess I had different expectations, and feel like I payed a little bit too much. Sandwiches are microwaved instead of heated on a stove and $9 for that seems a bit high. It was decent enough, but overall I feel like I was misguided. The liverwurst was very good, and worth the trip, however there isn't anything that would send me running back. The young lady server was a bit terse with us and I didn't feel welcome at first. The crazy guy talking to himself in the corner really sealed the deal though. My husband and I had lunch here with two friends last week. None of us are from Brooksville, so we found this little pub on yelp. When you walk in, you'll see a small seating area in the front, the bar on the right, and more seating on the left. It's pretty dim inside and has a lot of cool memorabilia on the walls and ceiling. I ordered the Red Mule sub, which had ham, roast beef, turkey, salami, bologna, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, and Italian dressing on white bread. It also came with a bag of Lays potato chips. The sub was pretty good! I was hungry, but I could only finish half of it because they piled the meat on so high! The service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress and the guy behind the bar were helpful and even offered lots of info about the memorabilia when we had random non-food-related questions. They were good sports! I enjoyed the experience and I would probably come back for lunch again if I lived in the area. read more

I love coming here. I can always expect a great sandwich every time. My favorite is the Red Mule combo made into a Reuben. Perfectly melted cheese over super thin corned beef and pastrami stacked high on fresh bread. The Red Mule is the perfect pub atmosphere with pictures, antiques and artifacts covering the walls. My first time at the Red Mule. Don't be fooled by the outside. They have a good sign but it blends in. They are in a little strip mall. Open the door and enter a quaint little Bistro. I had the Half corn beef sandwich on marble. Also an order of potato salad. The sandwich was tasty and filling but a little squishy to eat. Person who waited on us was super nice. She recommended the potato salad heated up with bacon and cheese. It was delicious. Best of all was meeting the Owner Casey. He happened to stop by and ask how our meal was. I do have to say that one needs to just be a fan of old style, soft bread deli sandwiches. The restaurant chooses not to have equipment that would require them to have a hood, and since it's just picnic style food, they do not toast the bread. The family owners have been a part of the small town community for many decades, as evidenced by the community award plaques present among the nostalgic memorabilia plastered on every inch of wall, rafter, ceiling and table tops. My husband enjoys the huge amount of meat, but I really prefer toasted bread for any type of sandwich, which is just not available here, although different types of bread such as wheat or rye and I think pumpernickel. The draft beer is not cold enough. I'd say this is more of a German style deli, rather than an American style one. I do notice a lot of local blue collar men frequent the pub for lunch. read more

I tried the Red Mule again but I was so very disappointed. Imagine ordering a sandwich with potato salad and presented with a plate with no potato salad. When I asked about it the server said they were looking for it. Then later said it only comes in twice a week. It would be there in a day. I asked for at least another pickle, that they brought. The meat was tasty, but the bread was something anyone could get in a package at the supermarket. I will not be returning. read more

Fantastic staff. Make sure to ask for your bread to be toasted if you like a more traditional sandwich as they use so much meat (it's AMAZING) that it falls apart easy. One of my favorite sandwich places. For the same price as a burger joint you can get a fresh, high quality sandwich your way on rye or even pumpernickel. I love them all, but today was a beef and cheddar. Liverwurst is also good, as is kielbasa. The Red Mule is a long time staple of Brooksville. The last 3 times I have eaten in the service has sucked. They need more wait staff. To have 4 ppl behind the counter cooking and still have to wait 25 mins for a sandwich I feel is ridiculous. The other thing is the last 4 visits both eating in and Togo,they have not had there hot potato salad. I'm told they only have 2 buckets and it's gone or it's frozen. I just had a "to go" sandwich from Red Mule Pub. Never ate here before, but was told that the Corned Beef Sandwich is awesome. I got the lean corned beef on Marble Rye Bread with Provolone Cheese and mustard. Sandwich was AWESOME. One of the beat corned beef sandwiches that I have had. The meat was extremely lean and the bread was fresh like it was just baked today. It was so so good. I will absolutely be back next time I pass through Brooksville. read more

Coolness factor off the charts and a good Pastrami to boot. This place looks like a prop-master from 1980's television took all his props and hung them on the wall. A mixture of 60's, 70's and 80's Brooksville memorabilia adorns the shadow box tables. Really good sammy and it is always great when you see a regular guy working hard in his shop for the customer.
