Seriously the hidden gem of Hernando County, FL! This place appears to be ran by a group of family members, and they're very sweet and personable. I ordered the El Mulo 1/2 sandwich and my teeth sunk into the bread. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. So, so good. They weren't stingy on the meat one bit!! The potato soup was Luke warm, so that was kind of a bummer, but the taste was delicious!! My mom ordered the Pub Club and she loved hers too! It was so filling for both of us. We stop by here every time we are in the area. The food is fresh and generous. You could even split a sandwich. The baked potato soup or the potato salad with bacon and cheese is a must. I love the Ruben sandwiches with either corn beef or pastrami. My wife loves the chicken salad . You get a bag of chips with your sandwiches. The staff is very friendly and treats you like family. Today I was in the area of one of my favorite eateries and it was lunch time...so thought I' stop in for a favorite at the Red Mule Pub. I went in to order a take-out order. I placed my order for: Pastrami sandwich and cup of potato soup (not loaded). Paid my $20.85 and had a minimal wait. Hurried home to delve into my delicious memory of such good food! I had a brown paper bag with my cup of soup and a handful of crackers. The Styrofoam container contained my whole sandwich, the super pickle and a snack bag of potato chips. I took my first bit....only to discover, I couldn't bite it off! Not a tooth problem, it was due to a lot of gristle on the pastrami!!! OMG....what a disappointment! I opened the whole sandwich up to discover there were several areas of gristle throughout both halves along with quite a large quantity of fat also. I cut off all of the gristle (it was in no way chewable) and also removed some of the fat. So the sandwich was smaller but tasty and the bread was good. As for the soup....it was OK. Just not the same soup anymore. Sometimes things change and along with the meat quality, and evidentially the recipe. Granted it's been quite a lot of time since I've been there but ended up to be a total bad experience for a great memory! :( I won't be going back, anytime soon. I don't mind paying the New cost but $20.85 but that was much too much for pastrami of that quality! Especially when the meat on the sandwich had to be re-butchered before it was edible. First time customer. We went with a motorcycle group and they were so accommodating. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. I had the pub salad and wow, it was awesome, so much meat, crisp fresh lettuce. Others had sandwiches which were plentiful and no one had one complaint. Husband had roast beef sandwich and meat was fresh made there, was still warm when he got his meal. Definitely will be returning. read more

Our friend, Mr. C., recommended if we are in the Brooksville area, check out the Red Mull Pub. We were surprised when 11 of us approach this place inside a shopping mall searching for a comfort and cozy place for dinner. First there were two small tables in front of the restaurant and appeared to be an average local eatery. Once inside, it is transformed into a completely different world! Memorabilia extensively used to decorate this sandwich/Pub. Pictures, antiques and artifacts cover the wall. Cold beers and wines are served with sandwiches. This is exactly what we are looking for! Red Mull Reuben, their signature sandwich is packed with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing on rye bread. They generally served with just fresh rye bread or pressed upon request. I have the pastrami Reuben with Pumpernickel bread and Cole slaw. The Pumpernickel bread was so soft and fresh, now I can see why they only pressed the sandwich upon request. The Cole slaw was fresh, crunchy and creamy. A great sandwich meal! Kielbasas with sauerkraut was also served and the cream of Potato soup was creamy and thick with potato flavor. Super friendly wait staff! Thanks, Mr. C. for your recommendation! We took a chance on this one...it was well worth it!! I think others have mentioned the location so I'll skip that (strip mall hole in the wall) but don't be thrown by that. Really neat atmosphere, I posted pix of it. Let's get to the food: This is pretty much soup and sandwich stuff. Very good menu, corned beef is their attraction but there are lots of alternatives: pastrami, turkey, roast beef, baloney (!), they had meat and cheese samplers, potato soup daily and a soup of the day. We chose half Rueben sandwiches and had a cup of the soup of the day - tomato basil. Soup was excellent but could have been heated a little more. The sandwiches were good although my corn beef was a touch grizzly. We were given chips in a bag a a monster dill pickle with the sandwich. Read a lot of awesome reviews for the Red Mule Pub and went in with high expectations for an awesome St Patty's Day Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. So disappointed. The corned beef was served on a paper plate with a roll and had absolutely no flavor. There was about 1/4 cup of cabbage with three baby carrots and one small potato in a paper bowl. Again, no flavor. Hubby got a Reuben after seeing people rave about them. Bread not toasted, corned beef was cold and barely any sauerkraut. The potato salad was good. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was subpar and overpriced based on the quality. read more

This is one of these hometown establishments that you cannot miss. Fantastic service, excellent pricing and the quality of food is top-notch. I had a turkey and cheddar sandwich that was absolutely the best turkey sandwich I've ever eaten. The turkey was so moist and plentiful I almost wanted to bring a pound of it home. Plenty of cheese melted through top-quality bread that didn't Crumble veggies to top the sandwich that were incredibly crispy and fresh. Even the pickles Served with the sandwiches were crispy the red Mule got it right. My wife got a tuna sandwich, Which you could tell that the tuna was homemade the tuna spoke for itself on the sandwich. It didn't taste cheap, You could tell that they had their own blend of spices and or dressings added to it that made is incredible. I have been going to the red mule for years and it was fantastic but, the last 3 or 4 times in a row it has not been good at all. I always order the pastrami sandwich which I love but, it has been stringy, fatty and grizzally a far cry from what it use to be, very disappointed. It seems like the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. I don't mind paying good money for good food but not for what I have been getting lately. I guess I had different expectations, and feel like I payed a little bit too much. Sandwiches are microwaved instead of heated on a stove and $9 for that seems a bit high. It was decent enough, but overall I feel like I was misguided. The liverwurst was very good, and worth the trip, however there isn't anything that would send me running back. The young lady server was a bit terse with us and I didn't feel welcome at first. The crazy guy talking to himself in the corner really sealed the deal though. The sub was pretty good! I was hungry, but I could only finish half of it because they piled the meat on so high! The service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress and the guy behind the bar were helpful and even offered lots of info about the memorabilia when we had random non-food-related questions. They were good sports!
