Kinda hard to gauge these places as there is a wide breadth in quality for a lot of these items. My party received the crab fries and I got the fried haddock. The crab fries were excellent. Enough crab and cheese for each individual fry. I forget the specific sauce but I found myself dunking frequently. The fried haddock was light, flaky whitefish but filling. The tartar sauce was excellently tangy and refreshing. I have a feeling they make it in-house. I had two beers and the tab came out to around $40. For a Friday evening, I would call this a high quality experience to banter with friends or coworkers.

The food is on point, the faces are familiar and welcoming the atmosphere is warm and the patio is beautiful. Tonight we celebrated my mom's birthday. My parents love the fish dinner. The crab fries are my go to. This night happened to be steak night. We shared the sharing steak board special and it did not disappoint and fed 3 adults and a toddler! Desserts were yummy as well. While I get the raspberry cheesecake every chance I get if they have it, tonight we had the blueberry and banana deserts. And they were amazing! Be sure to stop in if your ever in the Bloomsburg area.

And…read moreevery summer for over fifteen years, we either prepare or recover at the Holiday Inn Express off the Buckhorn exit on Route 80, frequently both. Since our visit last summer, the property has undergone another evolution. They have refreshed the public areas and replaced the HVAC systems. In a universe governed mostly by entropy and bad air circulation, a crisp, quiet hotel room is a minor miracle. The renovated common spaces are bright, modern, and inviting, standing in sharp contrast to the fading ghost of the mall across the road. Yet while the ductwork and lobby have been modernized, the soul of the place remains untouched. The staff here continues to be absurdly, wonderfully kind. They do not treat you like a credit card with legs; they greet you like long-lost cousins returning home for a family reunion. Every interaction is pleasant, genuine, and unrushed. The staples that make this place a haven are all still here. The Costa coffee machine that literally showed up while we were visiting last year grinds whole beans on demand, dispensing hot sanity to accompany cinnamon rolls designed to obliterate any lingering notions of human self-restraint. The rooms are spotless, the beds are exceptionally comfortable, and the blackout shades permit a sleep so deep it feels subterranean. Everything works. Everyone is nice. In a chaotic world, that is about as close to perfection as a roadside hotel can get. So it goes. Five stars, hands down. We will be back next summer.

Clean and friendly staff. Rooms are nice size, but a little dated. Only complaint is that the…read moreinside pool area A/C was broken and it was unbelievably hot in there. You had to either stay in the pool which was on the cold side or leave. It would have been useful when we checked in to be told this as my 5 yr old grandson wanted to use the pool as soon as we checked in and the staff heard him asking about the pool. Please notify the guests that there is an issue. I took one star off for this reason.

Located steps from the University of Scranton on the main drag of Mulberry Street, The Colonnade's meeting/reception rooms are beautiful as is the suite I stayed in for two nights. The original structure was built in the 1870's and it looks like much was done to preserve as much of the original woodwork, fireplaces and tile work as possible. High ceilings, curved walls, beautiful chandeliers...Joshua and Paul have returned the property to its former grandeur, yet have decorated the space with whimsy. In the Music Room, featuring an antique grand piano that came with the property, the blue walls are covered with lots of fun art work. My suite featured a separate sitting room, beautifully tiled bathroom and a separate bedroom with a king-sized bed with soft, luxurious bedding. Flat screen TV, free wifi and continental breakfast also come with the room. Several family members in town have attended functions from private baby showers to special holiday brunches at the Colonnade and report that the food and festivities were wonderful. There is parking in the back, and be forewarned - the property is off busy Mulberry Street - so for those not used to city noise should be prepared. It can be noisy in the early morning. So, while I have family I can stay with next time I'm in town, I will probably opt for staying at the Colonnade again.
