GM is kind of a micromanaging tool. I went outside to the smoking area with a drink i was served by the bartender and he called me a liar when i said i got it from inside and poured it out in front of me. I kept asking him to talk to any of his bartenders to confirm they had it at the bar, but he told me "i know we don't have this because i write the orders" which is hilarious in retrospect. I was forced to leave while this guy continued to embarrass himself by verbally accosting me and trying to get me to fight him outside of the bar. the bar is cool but it's run by a major d bag. I included a picture of the drink because i know this tool checks the reviews for this place. they served it to us complementary with tequila shots so. If you're reading this i'll say the same thing i said before, go talk to your employees about it and stop harassing customers, you really embarrassed yourself.

Every town needs a terrific venue in which to savor a proper pint, away from the real world, and there's no finer place in Lawrence than the Red Lyon. Is Trina working? Hope so. You don't want to drink at a 5-star pub. If such a thing exists, it's phony. The Guinness is a tad warmer than the average in Lawrence, a nod that they know what the proper temperature is but that too many simply don't understand. Grab a free basket of popcorn, enjoy your pint, and know you're in a welcome location. It's not Ireland, but unless you're headed to KCI for a flight to the Erin Island, it's as close as you'll get. Just where I want to be.

The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- a cozy mix of rustic and modern that creates a really inviting atmosphere. Service started a little slow, though our waitress became more attentive once she came by. We mentioned it was our first visit, so I was a bit surprised there wasn't much guidance on the menu or any recommendations. At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.

The side of coleslaw portion is ridiculous. I ordered 4 burgers with 4 sides and a basket of onion rings. I was told 15 minutes . I called at 6:32pm and i just received my order at 7:17 pm. My "basket" of onion rings was not in the order so waited extra time and I have attached a photo. Basically it was $1 an onion ring. I find that unacceptable and it has left a bad taste in my mouth for this place sadly.

The vibe was fun and inviting, and it looks like they've carried over the magic from their super popular Christmas pop-up into a fresh, spring-inspired theme. It adds a really playful, seasonal touch without feeling overdone. What really made the visit stand out, though, was the service. Our waitress was fantastic--super friendly, attentive without hovering, and offered great suggestions that we actually ended up loving. Tip: Get a basket of French fries for the table! Overall, it's one of those spots that works for just about anything--family outings, catching a game, bigger group gatherings, or even a more low-key, intimate meal. Great atmosphere, great service, and a place we'll definitely be back to.

OOOOOH and if you are in the mood for an appetizer they have one of the best artichoke dips in Lawrence, hands down!!
