The ambience is very much like a diner, but super friendly. Service was amazing and the recommendations that our waitress gave us were all spot on! Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.
Amazing food and even better people! My wife and I stopped at Red Kettle during our Idyllwild getaway, and everything was delicious--from the country fried steak and tuna sandwich to the fresh fruit cup. You can tell they really care about their food. But what made our visit truly special was Jennifer and Lindsay. After learning we were celebrating my wife's birthday, they surprised her with a muffin and sang Happy Birthday to her! That unexpected kindness meant so much to us and made an already great breakfast into a memory we'll take home with us. Great food, wonderful staff, and genuine hospitality. We absolutely recommend Red Kettle!
Red Kettle was a staple for my Idyllwild trips growing up, and I was thrilled to bring my best friend during her first visit. It's just as cozy as I remember! Honestly I think this trip was blessed because I magically got a parking spot out front and despite expecting that we would have to wait, we were seated right away. It was poppin so it took almost 30 minutes for the food to come out but it was delicious and the coffee is good. It's right in the heart of town so there's plenty to explore afterwards. They don't take reservations and it's very popular, but definitely worth it.
RED KETTLE @ IDYLLWILD Parking is limited to street parking only, but there are plenty of spots around the small town. It's free and super easy to find. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and found parking within minutes. My boyfriend has been coming to The Red Kettle for the past two years every time he visits this town, so I was really excited to finally try it. When we arrived, there was already a line out the door with people waiting. We put our names down and waited about 20 minutes, which went by pretty quickly. Once we were seated, we got our menus, and the girl who took our order was incredibly sweet. I loved her energy and the recommendations she gave. We ordered a hot chocolate to start, and it was amazing, definitely on the sweeter side and piled with whipped cream, so if you have a sweet tooth, you'll love it. My boyfriend also got a black coffee, which comes with unlimited refills. The staff walks around offering more, so you never run out. For food, my boyfriend got the Junkyard Omelette, and I ordered the French toast with bacon. We also shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, which is understandable since it was packed. Just keep in mind that weekends get super busy. The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 2 PM daily, so if you're visiting, try to come before noon so you don't risk getting turned away near closing time. Now the food, honestly incredible. I'm not even a big biscuits person, but their biscuits and gravy were to die for. They were savory, soft, and had the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. I highly recommend getting them. You can choose between a half-order or full order. For a group of 2-3 people, the half-order is perfect, but the full order is great if you're really hungry. My French toast was delicious, and although my bacon came out a little burnt at first, they remade it super quickly. The eggs were great too. My boyfriend's omelette came with crispy hashbrowns that were honestly so good. It all tasted fresh, hearty, and very home-cooked, like something you'd make with your family. I loved the classic diner vibe and the cozy ambiance. Overall, I would definitely come back to The Red Kettle if I'm ever in Idyllwild again. The experience was great, the service was amazing, and the food was absolutely worth the wait.
Red kettle is a must go brunch spot when visiting Idyllwild. Pros: being the only brunch spot in Idyllwild the line can get very long. This could be a really good thing because the food is really good, but this could also be a bad thing because you might be waiting a long time. I arrived in the late morning and was able to get seated within 20 minutes for a table of two. The food here is really good. I ordered the junkyards omelette and it was very filling, had a side of hashbrowns and toast and the flavor was great. My girlfriend ordered the French toast combo which came with two eggs and her choice of sausage or bacon she chose bacon. I also ordered a coffee and she ordered a hot chocolate. Both were really good and coffees had a free refill. There are two bathrooms within the inside and they were very clean. Cons: first con would be the long wait times depending on what time you show and when you visit during the year. Because it gets very busy, service could be slow for me. The service was good, but the food came out a little longer than it should have. I didn't mind because I didn't have any anywhere else to go so that was fine with me, but just keep in mind, you could be waiting a while. Verdict: before this time I came to red kettle at least twice before every time that I visited Idlewild and I will continue visiting because it's very good food. I always have a good time there and it's really the only spot to get brunch and not a wild, I would recommend this to anybody visiting.
The food here could use a little more flavor, but they are open on days when other businesses are closed, and the staff are very very nice! The service was great and the prices here (compared to other restaurants in the area) are also great.
I had two great experiences at the Red Kettle. Saturday and Sunday. It is a great place. Fast service. Even better, great customer service. The place is a delight. We were seated immediately. We were never pressured to order but we were checked in with occasionally. The food arrived fast. Great selection on the menu. One day I had the polish sausage with eggs and the next day I had the wagyu beef patty with eggs. All so tasty. Drinks were refilled multiple times. Tamara has a great place here. We will be back the next time we are in town. I like red and this red is warm. Seating is indoors or on their patio. Parking is free on the street. Try this place.

My husband wanted to surprise me and take me somewhere new for my birthday. We don't live close by but I want to see some snow. The drive up there was beautiful even though I am afraid of heights. It's cute little diner type of place with a lot of posters. Friendly people, since I am allergic to eggs I have to go to places that servers breakfast and lunch which they do. They menu look great I was excited to get the usual for me is either patty melt or Reuben . The service was awesome, outstanding coffee. Unfortunately the rest of our food was NOT outstanding. They burned my bread so bad that all I could taste was burned bread and not the rest of my Reuben sandwich! Normally I would send it back but they were so nice that I didn't have the heart to do it. My husband ordered breakfast burrito and it was nothing to brag about. I would go back for the coffee and friendly people.
The staff here couldn't be friendlier--seriously, they're hustling nonstop but still manage to make you feel welcome. The place was packed with locals, which pretty much guarantees it's the spot to be. It's got that cool, old-school diner vibe with tons of tables and counter space, plus outdoor seating if you want to soak up the sunshine. And the food? So good. We ordered the muffin sandwich with hash browns, yummy! Everything came out exactly how we ordered it--hot, tasty, and totally hit the spot.
This little breakfast spot was small but completely packed--and honestly, that just proved how good it is. Even with every table full, the customer service never missed a beat. Our hostess and our server were both incredibly attentive, kind, and on top of everything. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and their amazing service made our day trip to Idyllwild even more special. Definitely a place worth the wait!
This is as good of a breakfast as you'll get! Tourist towns can be tough but this place is great. The staff is beyond friendly. They're enough to get me to return. The Griddled Potato Scramble is delicious and HUGE. The omelet was great as well, but I can't speak to it because my partner devoured it before I could try it. That speaks for itself, I think. Get the biscuit. It's fluffy and perfect. Just do it. Also, go early. Like, as soon as they open. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting a while.

This was one of the few breakfast places open when we visited Idyllwild last month in July. It had a cute storefront and decor inside, and wasn't very crowded (we were seated right away around 9:30am which was nice). The server was also very cheerful and friendly, and service was fast. Our food was decent..we ordered the French Toast Combo and Corned Beef Hash & Eggs. My husband said his French toast pieces were thinner than he thought and soggy, and didn't have much taste. I liked the corned beef hash, it was very flavorful. I also enjoyed the hash browns that came with it as a side, it was very crispy. The portions were also fairly big and the prices were reasonable. It seemed like the restaurant started filling up later so I'm glad we got there early. read more

Cute little cafe in mountain town. Typical American food. We sat outside where I watched the snow melt away into icicles on roofs drip dropping. My dog joined us outside and the staff was friendly. I ordered an egg salad sandwich and it was yummy. They get really busy there, so if you are on LA time and in a rush...remember its the mountains. I had to slow it down. There are only two bathrooms...somehow I ended up waiting like 10 min for one to open... The restaurant itself was like a cute little house. read more

Was in town and decided to ask about the best place to eat. Well, the organic shop owner is a retired master chef and she referred us to either Gastronome (longest standing restaurant in Idyllwild since 1973) or Red Kettle across the street. We saw how crowded Red Kettle was and so we crossed the street because that is always a good sign. There were some folks from Palm Desert there and they raved about how delicious the breakfast was. They also said that we could not go wrong with anything that we chose. After about a 10 minute wait, we were brought in and seated. The seating was OK, but we were crammed in the middle of the dining room into a very small table with three chairs. Nevertheless, a young server came to take our drink order. We ordered two Arnold Palmer's, and one iced tea no sweetener. Shortly after our drinks came to the table our server, Kathy, greeted us. She was very cheerful and looked very happy, which gave us a really good feeling. Two in our party ordered the soup and sandwich special which came with a Rueben Sandwich cut in half with onion rings and a cup of soup each. It normally comes with a slice of pie, but they never brought the pie out (no worries). I ordered a hot pastrami sandwich and asked for mustard so our server said she would bring mustard out on the side of the plate, which was strange but whatever. We only waited about 7 minutes and our food arrived at the table. Everything looked delicious. The mustard came a bit later in a bottle, which was cool. Our server, Kathy, was super duper customer service oriented and we liked her a lot. I believe that she knew that the cooks would not make my pastrami sandwich right if I asked for it to be made with mustard, so she saved me a headache by bringing me a bottle of mustard on the side...excellent move Kathy! Overall, we had a good meal. The hot pastrami was ok. I made the mistake of using the bathroom before we hit the road. It was small and there were no paper towels. I let another server know when I came out. The problem with that is that the male worker who came out of the restroom before me probably did not wash his hands...gross. I almost got sick but I convinced myself that he didn't cook my food...eewwww read more

First of all, what a cute little restaurant this place is. My buddy and I came for a quick breakfast during our brief stay here in Idyllwild and I saw it was closest to where we were staying on the map. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted and seated. Kelly, our server, was so kind, she took care of us immediately, and we laughed together when I asked Siri what cottage fries were. Hehe. I ordered the 2 buttermilk pancake combo with scrambled eggs, sausage links and a side of sourdough toast. Our food came out within 10 minutes and I couldn't help but inhale it. Despite being so busy (we came on a weekend around 10 am and it packed) our food arrived after only about 10 minutes of waiting! There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with nice views of the town streets. We decided to order takeout. We got the California Omelette with sourdough bread and hashbrowns and a Breakfast Burrito with sausage. I love me a good breakfast burrito, but this one was disappointingly bland. Every other aspect of the burrito -- the portion, the perfectly crispy texture of the hasbrowns, the crunchy, juicy sausage, the soft tortilla -- was perfect. If they only added more seasoning, this burrito would be so good. Instead, enjoyment came purely from texture, because there was essentually no flavor. The burrito would've also benefitted from a bit more cheese, but that is totally personal preference. The California Omelette was pretty good. It was a but more flavorful than the burrito, which kinda isn't a hard standard to pass, but could also benefit from more seasoning -- or even just more salt. The egg was fluffy and paired nicely with the freshness of the tomato. The bread was nothing standout, just your regular slice of toast. Hashbrowns were great -- super crispy on top, and nice and buttery on the bottom. Maybe the lack of flavor is just because we ordered takeout, so because the texture of the food was so good, I would definitely give Red Kettle another shot (dine-in) given the chance. Would just remember to bring a little salt or something with me though just in case, lol. read more

This restaurant is a gold mine! City Hall should update their name to Gold Kettle. Small and busy restaurant, but great ambience. Not too loud where you can't enjoy a conversation with your party. Service is great, very friendly and efficient. All items are great. Their Eggs Benedict (comes extra runny) is one of the best I've had from a local diner. I will definitely be back. read more

This place came up as "Dog Friendly" so we decided to check it out. If you walk around the left side of the building, you can access the patio. We sat right down and were immediately waited on (surprising on a Sunday Morning!) I ordered the spinach omlette with avocado, and fruit. A side of bacon for my furry sidekick. I ate here for breakfast twice during a stay in Idyllwild. I enjoyed it so much the first day that I came back and enjoyed it even more on my second visit. This traditional diner is housed in a historical, rustic building and the combination of atmosphere, top-notch diner food, and personal, cheerful service resulted in my high rating. My first visit I had eggs benedict with hash browns, The eggs were done perfectly, the English muffin toasted with crisp edges, and the ham was smokey-delicious. The hash browns were soft inside with a perfect crispy outer layer. The second visit was simply scrambled eggs, bacon, sourdough toast, and fresh fruit. All were prepared perfectly and the fresh fruit consisted of a wonderful variety (grapes, watermelon, strawberries, honeydew, and cantaloupe). On both of my visits I ate indoors but they also have a patio for days less hot than when I was there. I was in Idyllwild during midweek and was able to walk right in and be seated but I bet on weekends there'll be a wait. read more

Red Kettle has a nostalgic, vintage diner feel that's perfect for a cold morning. The hot chocolate was fantastic and set the tone for a cozy meal. I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon and sausage (extra protein for a small charge). It was huge, super filling, and paired well with some Tabasco since the salsa wasn't very spicy. Really nice place. One of the few restaurants that was open on a Monday for lunch. Four of us with a dog. We sat on the deck (left side of my really bad pic). Our waitress was fantastic. Really friendly and helpful. I got the turkey melt. It was wonderful. My daughter got the grilled cheese. Others got the chicken fried steak. It was all great. We're in from out of town but if we're ever here again (likely) we'll definitely stop in again. read more
A good option for breakfast if you're an early riser. We all ordered different items for breakfast: country biscuit with gravy, French toast and polish sausage. The 2 strips of bacon that came with my order were especially delicious. It was the star in my takeout container. Meaty, not fatty, just right thicker with a slight chew, definitely a must try. The portions are so generous both hubs and I had enough for breakfast the next morning. read more

Visiting Idyllwild for the first time 2 weeks ago and the Red Kettle was one of the places we went for breakfast. Small but the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. Enjoyed viewing and reading the nostalgia on the walls. Service was excellent and the servers were very nice and attentive. Pancakes were fluffy and eggs cooked to perfection. Mountain Muffin was excellent as well. Check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

While visiting Idyllwild, we stopped and ate breakfast at this place and it didn't disappoint. My huevos rancheros were not spicy and were perfectly seasoned. Country potatoes were also good, but were missing some seasoning. Place was clean and waitresses were kind and friendly. I recommend this place and will be back. read more

Wow where do I start? Went after church and seen the line thought it would be worth the 30min wait. Skurrr wrong idea. Waited sat down, drink order taken after about 6 min wait. Finally got drinks and then started to order, was told couldn't order pancakes after noon. Didn't really understand that when we were seated before noon, the server took a while to come to our table, so had to settle and change my choice. Ordered my food and to say the least mediocre. I had patty melt don't understand how onions on my pattymelt was hotter than the meat. I almost burned my tongue on the onions. Chilli was bland and also subpar. I brought it to servers attention she asked if I had chilli before. I was lokey offended but I let it go. Fries were mid. Club sandwich was not decent and the onion rings left the worse after taste I've ever had. Definitely a 1 and done for me ,won't return or recommend. The spacing was too tight, music was ok. I feel patrons with pets should be sat outside for sanitary reasons. Also remember to bring napkins with food and fill the condiments before seating. read more
This is a traditional diner-style small restaurant right in the middle of Idyllwild; food isn't spectacular but it's very good given the fact that this isn't an expensive restaurant. They serve breakfast all day long (we'll, till 2pm when the restaurant closes) but if you want pancakes the griddle shuts down at 11am so keep that in mind. Their lunch menu is ok, chicken chili is amazing but the rest is ok. What really makes this place is its breakfast; huge homemade biscuits, home made patties plus locally produced sausage links complement your breakfast. Friendly service, hard to find that today. Expect long lines especially during the weekends. A must if you are in Idyllwild read more

It was my wife's and mine first time trying and the environment was super reminiscent of going back home to a home cooked meal! Parking is super limited if your staying in town then it's definitely walking distance from other locations such as gift Shops and other stuff which is super convenient ! The food was tasty as well my wife got the huevos rancheros and I got the eggs Benedict. Both were good and the prices were reasonable as well. If your new to idllywild the servers are super nice as well! Ask them any questions about what to do around town and they will pint you to the right location read more

location & parking: located on the main street of idyllwild in town! amongst many other lovely local businesses. there is plenty of street parking around and it's in a walkable area in town food & drinks: overall pretty good! super authentic, well made, flavorful, and yummy. their breakfast foods really hit the spot if youre looking for a good ol american diner breakfast. eggs benedict $17 with cottage fries (deep fried potato cubes, similar to potato wedges) chicken fried steak & eggs $16 with hashbrown & biscuit in gravy service: came on a beautiful friday afternoon and beat the lunch rush! a tip is to try going not during rush hours, since theyre pretty popular and got filled up quick. the staff were kind and attentive vibes: the ambiance is "good ol american diner", cozy, comforting, and it has a great cabin vibe too overall: 5/5 stars, def bookmarked this place for my next visit to idyllwild, when in need of some classic diner food read more

I love the Red Kettle. They have a patio area where you can have your fur babies with you. Just keep in mind that it's cooling down up there and you might want to bring a jacket for you and your fur babies. Go, enjoy!
