These are terrible hot dogs. Boiled and shoved in a crumpled bun with the bare minimum of toppings, not Chicago-style. Sam's Red Hots makes the same thing around the corner for cheaper if you're on a budget. The shrimp and cold soggy fries are also terrible. That's basically the entire menu minus the Polish sausage. If the other location is famous for the burgers, why wouldn't this location capitalize on that? At least the service is fast, but I won't be back after two very lackluster visits in two years. Went to try out red hot Ranch fried shrimp and was very disapointed. It taste like frozen fried shrimp from your grocery store did not like it at all. Does not compare to franks fried shrimp or snappys not even close. Maybe will try hot dog or burgers next time, but I will definitely not buy any shrimp there anymore. read more

Saw it was open and so pull in. it's clean, so nothing "suspect" there. Guys behind the counter are nice. Double Dog with Fries and everything on the dog. OK... This is NOT a full on Chicago Dog. Mustard, Relish, onion and Sport peppers only. And a white bun, not poppy seed. Dog itself is fine. Good smoke, crisp at the skin and good meaty/ gralicy flavor. I do like my dogs "griddled" or grilled... But not happening here since they don't have a grill. Fries are solid. They are "skin-on" Idaho potatoes. Cut, fried, served. Very tasty dogs. They use Vienna, so that's a plus, and their fries--which they pack in with your dog whether you want them or not--are pretty damn tasty. They don't have as many toppings as a place like Byron's, so "everything" isn't quite everything, but again, really tasty. The fries here are amazing!!! They have a very small menu with hot dogs, polishes, and fried shrimp. The hot dogs are very standard, but they all come with the fresh cut fries that are to die for! The shrimp was very good also! Super fresh! I saw them deveining the shrimp as I ordered them. The shrimp sauce is very different, and more like a mildly spicy BBQ sauce. I finally stopped by. I have been tempted for months by the lighted hot dog sign and more the banner sign that says try our fried shrimp. I figure if the place sells hot dogs and fried shrimp then the shrimp must be outstanding. This is the best hot dog stand in Chicago. PERIOD. Snap casing vienna beef dogs with home cut fries for a reasonable price. What more could you ask for? For those of us who grew up on Gene and Judes, this is basically the the same business model. Same type of vienna dogs, same condiments, same type of fries, same small menu (they have shrimp, G&J's has tamales), same low price (but not quite as low) and the same presentation. Love this place. Love the parking lot. Tons of free parking. You don't have to deal with the maniacal drivers on Western while trying to park your car. I'm not really sure how this place has any good reviews. The hot dogs are not Chicago style- they weren't on a poppy seed bun, no tomatoes, no pickle, and no celery salt. Also it was the smallest, thinnest hot dog I've ever had at a restaurant. They give you your hot dog all rolled up with the french fries so when you open it, it looks like somebody sat on it. The fries were also incredibly greasy and the cheese sauce was cold and gross. The dudes serving us were pretty nice so that's why they get 2 stars. Not worth the trip. The menu is exceptional small (hot dogs, polish, fries, and fried shrimp, and not much else), but what do you expect at a "greasy spoon". The fries and fried shrimp (make sure you get the hot sauce) are amazing. In fact, on more than one occasion I've gone out of my way to get fries from Red Hot. Solid late night spot (like after 3am) for dogs/fries/shrimp (that's right, shrimp!). This place is quick, easy, and convenient. Hot Dogs are great vienna beef and fries are stacked on top of the dog and wrapped up. The shrimp is actually really really good. I would not go anywhere for shrimp, but this would be an exception as I don't think any restaurant with 3 things on their menu would risk not having fresh anything, especially shrimp.
