I've been to Red Hot Ranch numerous times now, and I've never been disappointed. Now, I can't review the hot dogs, but I can review the fried shrimp and fresh cut fries. AMAZING! I am SO glad I drove past the Red Hot Ranch last night. This place keeps it simple, well priced and freakin' delicious. Annnd they are open Late! I didn't catch what brand of hot dog they use - but damn that was a tasty dog! Don't expect a "Garden Dog" at this place ... it's just topped with the essentials - mustard, relish, onion, hot peppers - and then a healthy portion of hand cut fries piled ontop. The batter used to bread the shrimp is nothing exotic, but it's the perfect weight ... not too heavy, but enough substance to give you a lil' crunch and its flavor doesn't interfere w/ the shrimp. The shrimp were nice sized (maybe 25-35 count), fresh tasting and had their tails removed. The only thing more I could ask for was a tamale ... not a fancy one, not a homemade one ... just a typical supreme tamale to compliment my dog. This place never disappoints! I just drove in from Oak Park because I was craving the shrimp. I used to live about 10 mins away from there and hadn't had it since I moved almost a year ago. Still as good as I remembered. I travel a lot and in all the beach towns I've visited I honestly can't say that I've had better fried shrimp. Red hot ranch should go back to the ranch. I had the fried shrimp, hot dog , fries. The shrimp was nothing special good but not great but expensive $7 for about 7 shrimp. The hot dog had: mustard relish hot peppers& onions it was good. Now the fries, which they promote so much are not so good, & they only give u about 10 fries . Overall solid food, especially for the price. I imagine it would be even better after a night of drinking. Only wariness was in the cheese, included for you to dip in. Tasted very much like cheese in a can which isn't my thing, but if you take a bite of the dog and then follow with a bite of cheese fries, its a good combo. People working the place are friendly which is always a plus. Got mine to go so can't speak on the dining-in experience. My first experience of this hot dog was like my first experience with watching Harold and Kumar sober. I just don't think I was in the mood so it didn't taste that good. It was also my first hotdog in Chicago so I was like....really? That's a Chicago hot dog?! The wiener is really long and average....(that's what she said) and the bun is nothing out of the ordinary. Their fries are fresh cut and tasty...but kind of limp and soggy so if you're going for the crispy fry....it ain't that. So yes..my second time going I was three beers in and my appetite for greasy food was kicking in....it's also on the way home. Man that hot dog was good. The leftover fries were also used for morning breakfast as my friend insisted on making potato and eggs...i was against at first...but, hey....could have been my hangover but it worked. Came in after a long day of drinking. Got a polish sausage with cheese fries and was surprised that the fries were inside the bun. I don't frequent enough of these hole-in-the-wall dog places but my friends informed me that's the way it should be. I really have to talk about the fried shrimp that I ordered as an afterthought. They were the best fried shrimp I've ever had and are sold by the lb. or half lb. Shrimp are huge and the breading is crispy and not at all soggy. Perfect fries, very good hot dogs and the fried shrimp are winners as well. You will not get the full on garden style chicago dog here. What you will get is a gene and jude's style dog with fries that often surpass those of G&J. Although this is a place I would not normally visit, it was Saturday and I was a little boozed up from a byob event. Hot dogs sounded amazing and with the bf's apartment just a few blocks away, Red Hot Ranch was calling our names. We both immediately ordered hot dogs with everything. Immediately after ordering I saw the shrimp and was upset that I didn't order it. That's ok-next time I will be getting it. The hot dogs were delicious and the fries were awesome. The fries are great, no question about it (they even have a huge "try our fresh cut fries" banner out front). However, the hot dog is not your classic Chicago dog. They did appear to be Vienna beef, but the dog itself was super skinny and was definitely not a red hot. I got it with "everything" which was just mustard, onions, spore peppers and relish. Odd that they didn't offer up tomatoes, pickles, or anything else but whatever. However, the prices are so low that it's really hard to expect too much. There were two main employees I interacted with. The tall male employee is who this review is about. The not so tall male employee is a hustler & every time I'm in there seems to be carrying the kitchen. He also always does a great job with the food and appears to take pride in his work. Props to him. The taller male employee, not so much. He has an I do not care attitude when you order, fine, whatever, but his mask is hanging so far below his nose it's practically exposing his mouth. He took my order & then proceeded to cook it with his mask hanging low, and the order was wrong because he's not reading the tickets. I know for some reason it can be super annoying but due to an allergy, I get extra lettuce not a bun. When the order came out, my burger was in a bun so I asked for it to be corrected - to the same young man with the low mask who took the order in the first place. I saw him trying to figure out how he could transplant the bun burger meat onto lettuce but thankfully he decided against it and re-cooked the patties. 25 min later for a burger & fries (obviously the fries were cold in the bag because they were packed with the first burger but I couldn't even go there with this guy) and I get it home & the burger is yes, wrapped on lettuce but not with the toppings I asked for that he wrote down when he himself took my order. I'm sure this is happening all the time & people don't realize until they get home because he's simply not reading the tickets. This all could have been avoided if he was reading & wearing his mask properly, following guidelines. There are so many places to get a char burger. I'll be taking my business to one of those next time & I suggest you safely do the same. read more

I use to live right next to this place and it was awesome that it was always open after a night out on weekends----I believe it is open to 5 AM everyday. The always go to selection is of course the "double dog"---priced around $3 or $4, it comes with a bun with two delicious Chicago style dogs and some delicious fresh cut fries. The staff use to know me there by name because I was such a fan. Make sure to bring cash as they don't accept cards---although there is an ATM right outside. They also provide outdoor seating which is great during the summer while enjoying some tasty dogs. read more
