My friend and I were out enjoying a gorgeous late fall day and found ourselves in Middlefield so we decided to try this place we'd heard so much about. Whole we were parking we noticed the nice patio and thought how nice it would be to sit outside and appreciate the view and the still warm weather. We were seated right away just taking everything in and our waiter immediately brought us water and took our drink order while we looked at the menu. I pretty quickly realized that I was going to have to make some decisions because everything sounded so good! I should say that I'm a vegetarian so I'm not used to having so many choices! I was so happy to see that they had stuffed mushrooms and arancini sans meat so we started with those. Most places have meat in both so we were off to a great start! The mushrooms were so tasty and I still think about them often to the point where I think we are going back today! The arancini was crispy and light and super flavorful. The bread that came with it was thick and condensed somehow, I think maybe panini pressed and delicious. Next came the eggplant parm which was just the way I like it, slices on the thinner side which is how it should be. My friend got the chicken piccata and said it was amazing. Unfortunately we didn't take pics of the main dishes because they were gone so fast! The service was great throughout and perfectly timed. The owner came outside at one point to see how we were doing which was so appreciated. We talked to him about the origin of the restaurant and other things and it all just added to the experience. I highly recommend this place for the great food and service. I would say that it's a little small inside so if you are going, you may want to think about reservations. read more

Huge portions at a good price. Attentive and friendly waitstaff. Plentiful wine selections by the glass or bottle. Creme broulee was perfect. Outdoor patio seating is nice, especially a table further from the street. read more

We visited for the first time tonight- we ordered two specials- the baked scrod with risotto primavera (pictured) and the chicken gorgonzola, both of which were excellent! The service was very attentive. We look forward to trying the outdoor seating on a night with better weather- but the ambience inside was also very nice. I selected Red Fox Amore, Middlefield, based on previous great experiences at the original Red Fox on Smith Street, Middletown, and the location as a good half way point between family members meeting up for a reunion. Bad mistake. The service was terrible. Our waiter would disappear for 25 - 30 minutes at a time. This was a Monday night. Tere were only a few other tables when my party of 5 all convened. Service was incredibly slow. We waited to order our appetizers. Then we waited a ridiculously long time for them to come out. Then we waited another 25 minutes before entrees were brought out, Unlike the original Red Fox, the food ranged from good to mediocre, at best. My girlfriend had the Alfredo, which I tasted and quite obviously contained cream, which is never used in authentic Alfredo sauce. When we got home, she became ill with diarrhea. The dinner took 2.5 hours, and we skipped coffee and dessert as some had to get home because of work the next day. Incredibly disappointing. I dropped $300, and for the first time in years, tipped less than 20% because the service was so bad. The heat system was making a loud and irritating noise, so the waiter shut it off, which eliminated annoying noise, but also the heat! By the time we left, it was very cold in there. And the toilet in the men's room was disgusting. It looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned for weeks. I took a picture but won't post it becuse it's so disgusting. Fico (Red Fox owner) needs to pay some serious attention to this property if he doesn't want it to fail. I would never go back there and my previous high level of confidence in Red Fox properties has been seriously shaken. This one is a loser. read more

Just got take out, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, house salad, came with bread on side. All very good, was not busy and that's a shame.

My wife and I went wanting to try the relatively new place. No salads included with meal despite high price points in the entrees. I had the lasagna which had not much flavor. Average at best. Wife had eggplant rolatini and liked it. Had to ask for fresh cheese. When they brought it in a plastic bin they held it out for us to scoop our own cheese. Service was slow despite only 3 tables with customers in the restaurant. Lots of staff standing around. Poor communication. Had to flag down our waiter to get the check because staff were hanging out in the front. The paint on the walls is all dinged up which is not what I'd expect from a high end restaurant. With all the other choices for Italian in the area, no reason to go back. read more

The service and staff are very friendly. Food quality was average at best, but plentiful. Spaghetti was overcooked. Broccoli came out as one big clump, so we severed the thick trunks, and ate the crowns. Prices were reasonable. Normally we enjoy indoor seating over outdoor, but inside Red Fox, the tables were packed in way too tightly. There was no room for servers to pass, and I was unfortunate to be sitting near the wine rack, so I received a few nudges and bumps, as staffers acquired bottles for their tables. The outdoor patio seemed more pleasant and roomy. For closeness and convenience, Red Fox is decent enough, but a few changes could turn this place into a 5-star restaurant. read more

Mostly a good experience with a few surprising shortcomings. This place has great potential, though! Went here for an early dinner on a weekday and it was delish. I got the chicken picatta and it was perfect. Juicy. lemony, and the chicken was plump and tender. Mashed potatoes were tasty and the broccoli al dente and bright green. My son got the shrimp scampi and although delish, the pasta was clearly overcooked and bloated. That was surprising. He agreed it was overcooked, but said he still liked it. I decided on a martini after seeing an ad at the very top of the menu.... "Weekdays Happy Hour 3pm-6pm -1/2price house martinis." Here what I was told by our server after the fact and only after I inquired: "That price is only applicable if you sit at the bar." He even commented further, "Many customers are fooled." Wow. That right there is not an acceptable way to do business, especially considering they are clearly aware of the misrepresentation. Hopefully, they will clarify this in the future on their menu. I will be back for sure, though because the location works great for me. Their food and customer service are quite good for the most part and I enjoyed sitting outside with the exception of the fact that the sun was beating on us as they didnt have umbrellas at the tables....only on the perifrial (perhaps their tables have no umbrella holes?). Hopefully that will be addressed by next summer. On a more minute note...the plants outside were mostly dried out and dead. It would be a wonderful improvement to remove the dead plants or to just take care of them properly. I recall beautiful plants at their Smith Street location. I say give it a try. A Suggestion Box would be a great idea for this business until it's more established. read more

Like many we eagerly awaited the opening of Red Fox Amore. I was really hoping that it would be a new favorite on this side of town vs downtown. We went for lunch and unfortunately were not impressed with the food or the service. We were seated near the bar/front door and given menus. After a few minutes we ordered, received our meals and never saw the waiter again. Actually we could see him since he was 20 feet away talking to his coworkers and on his phone. We intentionally waited for a couple of months after their opening to give them time to work out staff training. This was purely a case of no staff training, or at the very least a bored employee. He never came over even once to refill water or ask how our meal was. We had to call him over to get the check. Our food was OK at best. The homemade ricotta had to have come from a plastic Pollo container b/c there is no way that it was whipped or freshly made. My chicken marsala was chicken with brown sauce....absolutely no marsala flavor. My wife had a similar undistinguished meal (Chicken Parm) that we barely remember. With so many other dining places in Middletown they need to do better. I have always been of the mindset to give any restaurant two chances. So we will try them again at some time in the future, but for now this was a very disappointing experience. I read numerous excellent reviews for this and the original Red Fox and wonder how service and food could be so inconsistent. Hoping that we caught them on a bad day. read more

My wife and I went to dinner there last Saturday night. Everything started off great. We got our drinks and appetizer, which was very good. Then our entrees came out, and so did the flies! We were being swarmed by them. We saw that the waitstaff noticed us swinging at them. They did nothing about it, then smoke started to pour out of the kitchen, so they opened the door behind us, which let in more flies. We paid for our meals and then left. read more

Went to red fox amore for the first time this past week. Great experience. Food was pretty good. We got the chicken piccata and chicken parm. For dessert cannolis and a cappuccino. All great. For drinks espresso martinis. Real espresso, delicious. Ambiance was nice and waiters were quick. It can border on getting a little load inside, but still enjoyable.
