If you are in the mood for Indian cuisine, there are numerous restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. Only a few of them have buffets. If you want to highlight your taste buds, have you tried Pakistani cuisine? Decades ago, my quest for the best tandoori chicken in the valley, brought me to Red Chili on Parthenia, in Northridge. It has always taken the crown. I recently discovered that they actually have a buffet too, including this tandoori chicken, a d only offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 3 PM ($25 plus tax). Things are different here. On the meat side, they had beef nihari, beef haleem, chicken tikka masala, chicken biriyani and tandoori chicken. Last two lived up, amazing. The other 3 were mediocre. Both beef dishes were pasty, already thick and over heated since 11 am. For vegetables, only 3 selections. Chole (garbanzos) was better than the other two, again pasty dishes of potatoes and spinach, that lacked the fresh look and taste. Last two even loosing texture. There were adequate condiments, on the spread. Unique here are the two unlimited selections of freshly cooked naan and puri (Indian buffets give you a choice of none but only one serving). I had 3 puri servings. It was flaky, well layered, soft, easy to eat and melts in your mouth. In a nutshell, finding restaurants in the valley for Pakistani cuisine or at that matter in Los Angeles, is not easy. They are there. OC has a handful that are super. But in the Valley, there is no abundance. So make the journey to Red Chili. At least, just for the biriyani and tandoori chicken. read more

I went to Red Chili for the first time just bc there was a shaded parking spot right in front of their establishment I've been a customer at one of the other restaurants in the same plaza & decided to check out Red Chili since I was literally right in front. The items on their menu looked really good & bc I was picking up lunch to meet a friend I gave my friend the two options: Red Chili & the other establishment. We decided on giving Red Chili our business bc I was in the mood to try a new place. The menu had a couple of photos of their food & I asked the person at the register if there was a photo of the Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza bc there was clearly no photo of any pizza on the menu so she got her phone from the back area & pulled up a photo. AS SOON AS SHE SHOWED ME HER PHONE W THE PHOTO OF THE FOOD ITEM I WAS ASKING ABOUT the restaurant phone rang. The owner was reprimanding her for pulling her phone out in front of me, the customer. I would have given this place a 5 star review if that incident did not happen. I apologized to her bc my intention was to just see what the restaurant was promoting, not for her to get talked down to. I tipped her in cash, ofc, for the inconvenience. If the menu online & in person had proper photos & labels to the description of the photos I am sure that there would not have been any issue. Anyways, I apologized to her for asking what the food at the restaurant looked like bc there was lack of evidence. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious & well lit, if I had time to sit down & eat my food I would have. The chicken tikka masala pizza was honestly really tasty. You can say anything you want about red chili, but what you cannot say is that the food isn't good. The food here is DELICIOUS!!!! everyone in this restaurant including the cooks and the waiters and servers work so hard and that is why I respect them. Food is taking a bit long ? Ok!!!! Been coming here for a few years so far and they never disappoint me with the food they have to offer. The curry and masala are my go to things to get here. The chicken and lamb are cooked perfectly so its easy to bite into. I also get the garlic naan which is made fresh and has a good aromatic smell to it. Inside there are lots of seats and I never really see it get full. You have lots of parking in the plaza, however, it can be crowded sometimes. The wait time for to go orders can take a while. I usually wait an average of 30 minutes for an order of chicken curry, lamb masala, and garlic naan. I recommend ordering ahead on phone then picking up 30 minutes later. If you dine in, it takes around 20 minutes until your food comes out. read more

Red Chili is located in a shopping center with free parking spots. This comes in very handy as it takes about 20 minutes for your to-go order to be ready. There was no line to get in, to order or to pick up your food. Ordered a SHRIMP BIRYANI and the flavor on the rice is sooooo good! There are 6 full shrimps in that very generous pile of rice. I'm sure I could have split this with someone, but I was so hungry I finished it all by myself. read more

The service was good we walked in and were greeted by a young women at the counter who gave us menus so we could see what we had to order. I came with my family and ended up ordering the Chicken Tika Roll, Chicken Tika Masala, garlic naan and the fries. The fries were premade/frozen but overall nothing to special like a 5/10. This place is in kind of a dingy spot in Northridge, but nonetheless, they have really good food, I tend to prefer to take it out nowadays, but the vibes are OK if you want to eat there too. Omg, such GREAT Indian food. I ordered buttered chicken, basmati rice and garlic naan bread. IT WAS SOOO GOOD OMG. Other places, sometimes the flavor doesn't come through BUT at this place, the flavor was GIVING!! Yaasss. And the owners (I think) were so sweet and genuine. Gave us their house made chai tea! This review is for an experience pre-covid so do with that what you will. They may have changed since then but I came to a nearby store and remembered this experience so vividly I had to write. My mom and I came to this restaurant to kill a few min and decided to order some samosas and a mango Lassi to start with. We were thinking of splitting the samosas but when they arrived, we had 3 miniature ones. I just let her have them because they barely looked big enough to feed a toddler. We then ordered tandoori chicken, which actually wasn't bad. The lassi however, was incredibly sour to the point neither of us could drink it. The perfect end to our meal was when I saw a fat cockroach skittering out past my feet in the restaurant. I was disgusted and will never be back. read more
