Our group, after playing a game of Blood on the Clocktower, posing inside of Red Castle Games.

Red Castle Games is such a lovely space. Brightly lit, inviting, & warm. Walls lined with board games, a few play areas, and a nice little coffee shop tucked away behind it all. I'm part of a group who has been playing Blood on the Clocktower once a month at this store for the last few months and Red Castle has been the perfect venue for us to host our games. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable as well. I fully recommend this FLGS (friendly local game store) to anyone who listens. Thanks Red Castle, I look forward to seeing you next month!

20 oz Coffee not filled, mostly foam, not stirred, bitter on top, too sweet on bottom. 1 star. Service was not an issue, barista was nice.

Magic: The Gathering Starter Kit

So here I am, 49 years old and looking to learn how to play Magic:The Gathering for the first time. The makers, Wizards of The Coast (owned by Hasbro), have a very comprehensive website with terabytes of information at my fingertips but not much in the way of HOW TO PLAY WHEN YOU'RE NEW. They helpfully direct you to their training site called Arena )which I've heard has wonderful tutorials). However, since I've had enough of pandemic isolation, I wanted an in-person experience. I used the WOTC site's store locator and Red Castle Games popped right up. I hot-footed it down from Vancouver; got princess parking (in front of the doors); donned a mask and was greeted by some of the nicest folks ever. Katie guided me through the entire process and explained everything in great detail. She answered my (ludicrously) long list of detailed questions (I am a total Capricorn...) and related her own anecdotal experiences about the game to me. She then introduced me to Moe, the store manager who contributed to our twenty five minute instant deep dive into MTG (see? I'm already using the vernacular). The two of them were so helpful and sweet that I was blown away. Go see them! If the owners are reading this - give them both big raises! By the way, the store is gorgeous. It's unlike any game store you've ever been to. I swear all that was missing was a Starbucks kiosk - don't judge, it's pumpkin spice season! Anyway, I have my starter deck and a couple of dice. I'm ready to learn. Thanks Red Castle. You guys are the best. Maybe one day I'll be educated enough to play real people in the store!

Looking towards registers from gaming area.

Friendly, helpful, workers don't mind doing work. Always a good time. Best card shop in Portland. Their online system that they have been trying to push can be kind of aggravating but it makes sense that they're trying to make it more streamlined, just think it needs a little work.

Stumbling across Board Bard Games after dining at a nearby favorite restaurant was a fantastic find, and I'm glad to know I don't have to drive all the way across town whenever I'm looking for a new board game, some dice, a new RPG book, a pack of [insert your favorite] TCG cards, miniature paints, brushes, and all manner of other gaming geekery and gear! Apparently everyone else in the immediate area got the memo before I did, because the place was *packed* with patrons playing pretend with painted plastic proxies of pistol-packing Primarchs punishing patrols and parties of pan-universal peoples...in this case, Warhammer: Kill Team. Every table was entirely covered with detailed terrain, miniatures, books, cards, tape measures and beverages, surrounded by gamers bent forward in ergonomically-unfriendly hunched positions, guaranteed to cause back problems in the future! It's not the largest gaming space in the city, but they pack a lot of product, and people, into it, utilizing every square inch of their real estate to its fullest. I saw several games that I own, or want to own, and enough of everything any nerd would need for the game that fits their fancy. I was very impressed, and will definitely be back in the future, likely sooner than later, the next time my dice betray me and end up in Dice Jail™.

I've picked up free redemption codes through Gamestop before for Pokémon shiny codes (or event…read morecodes). It's never been an issue before to swing in and grab a free code (which the Pokemon Company AND Gamestop advertise it as), even a day or two after release. This time the code was for Scarlet/Violet, Shiny Miraidon/Koraidon depending on which version of the game you have. Get to this location shortly after opening (on 9/26/25) and it's ridiculously busy with people all in line trying to buy new Pokémon cards (and possibly Magic?). That's fine- however, we then learn that we are *REQUIRED* to spend $15 in order to get the *free* code. I understand one per person, that's entirely fair...but these are supposed to be free. I watched a young man get turned away because he didn't have money, he asked if he could show them his switch to prove he has played this game and loves it; he wasn't rude, he wasn't a re-seller, he was just a guy who loves his Pokemon game. He didn't have $15 to spend for his free code and they told him they couldn't help him because the District Manager told them that morning that people must spend $15 to get the code, to avoid re-sellers (5 minutes prior to this, another guy was irritated and insisted on the fact they're supposed to be free and she handed him two codes because she didn't want to "argue over a piece of paper". What?? She apologized and was mostly kind, but I can't understand the idea that this is okay. If I had chosen to be rude, would I have gotten my code for free? Neither employee was rude to us, the gentleman who rang us out for something we didn't want was quick and kind about it but this can't actually be allowed.. when we left I saw that same young man outside in absolute tears because he was turned away (and shouldn't have been). I hope he is able to somehow get his code, I gave mine to my younger brother (who is stuck at school) or I'd have given him mine. Most of the people in the store wanted to buy cards, and based on the way they were acting about it I am certain they are in fact re-sellers. So how is it a deterrent when those people are already spending enough money to get the code? Something doesn't seem right here. I went ahead and called the Clackamas store to inquire if we needed to spend money to get a code (so I could try to get one for myself since I gave mine to my brother) and they told me no, you just have to come in to the store and it's one per person. These stores should have the same District Manager..so who is lying? I won't be spending money at the Eastport location anymore because I don't think the manager there was being truthful.. I also work retail and I know that things can be cruddy sometimes, but I don't lie to people so my store gets more money and Pro Sign-Ups ‍

Crepes and board games? Wut?…read more It took some convincing from my kid for me to agree to come here. I like tabletop games and crepes both but the combination seemed too novel to be any good either way. Holy crap was I mistaken. Not only is this place massive inside, they have the friendliest staff, an absolutely huge selection of games (both for purchase or available to play onsite), and a really great community of players. But the food, you say, how are these crepes? Well, we ordered three different ones, 2 sweet and 1 savory, and all of them were extremely tasty. Before we even left we were already making plans for our next visit. This place is an absolute gem.

The crepes are bad, and banning outside food isn't going to make us like bad crepes. It's just going to make us not come to your store. Improve the food or allow outside food and drink. It's sold right outside your door and would be easy! 2. Actually advertise and organize FNM. We want C&C to become the flagship Portland store but it's not going to happen spontaneously. Promote your store and hold FNM regularly. We want you to succeed and are begging you to get it together.

Due to an appointment in Oregon I got the pleasure to finally swing by and check one of them out... and WOW! I was in readers heaven. I felt like the pricing was a bit steep on some books but for the most part it's kind of worth it. The only weird vibe I had here was the staff. Yes, they were polite, but they were all so robotic. There was one lady who I swear asked me every four minutes without ever looking up at me "are you finding everything okay?" and even checking out the man at the counter hardly acknowledged me or spoke so much as the price my purchase was.
