    Vintage Star Bird

I've been going to this shop since it opened. It always has the best service, selection and price. A little story: My father bought me this toy (see attached picture) from a garage sale when I was a kid. The Gresham Toy Shop got this in while he was on hospice and I picked it up two days after my dad passed. Joe and the Gresham Toy Shop sell more than toys. He sells nostalgia and memories. It is a very special service he provides.

It's not often I go somewhere twice in a row and get the 5 star treatment. The owner of this sweet little shop is the main reason we drove from Washington to Gresham; it is plain to see that he loves the joy his shop gives to children (and reminiscent adults). There's a little bit of everything here, cards and stuffed animals, magazines, vintage toys -- I am instantly transported back to the 80s when I walk in. While my son flips through binder pages full of Pokémon cards, my eyes explore the walls covered in plastic delights and search eagerly through the glass cases. One could totally spend an hour in here just looking at stuff (or playing the original super NES he has out for everyone). My son had a jar of coins and dollars bills that he brought with him to the store. After going back and forth on which Pokémon cards to buy, the owner throws in a deal for a large pack because he was out of the smaller packs, and then sees it's my 8 year old paying, and gives him a few cards for free. My son thinks this place and the owner are one of the most fantastic things he's ever witnessed in his short life. Support small business, go the extra mile to check this place out. It's more than worth it!!

Can't believe I forgot this in my review schedule had a look back and realized I did not give a review to our cute new little local toy shop. I really like this place it is definitely enthusiast spot he is using it as an office and with the other businesses he has going it seems he definitely does not need it for anything else. It is more or less a collection of things that he likes and enjoys and is definitely seen in the less than common assortment that you'll find here. If you grew up in the 80s or 90s you will see so much of the cabinet items all over the store new old stock used items and retro remix. Now of course for the younger generation there is plenty of storage to be told here and thanks for them as well like Pokémon cards and mini toys and games of the like... now the card prices are above average if you're looking for new packs and things like that so keep that in mind but they have a good used and single card selection where you can grab some really cool deals for kids that aren't looking for something super rare but definitely something to get them excited. I will definitely come in at least check it out give them some positive feedback and hopefully they can stay around because we need something like this in our little downtown area

I have gone a few times over the past year, and have felt the same dissatisfaction each time. With the scarce options in Gresham for games, I felt I should give them a couple chances. The video game selection is meek if that. With the most variety for new gen consoles XB S/X and PS5 (This would be fine if they didn't price things as badly). The sections for "retro" games are pitiful, with laughable selections. Any game you came in hoping to find, they've either priced it way too high in the glass case, or they don't have it. Serious price gouging overall, this can't be stated enough. It feels like a basement selection of games that nobody wants, or everyone already has. They even offer games that no longer have online services, rendering them useless to the buyer, at the same price as when these games released 5+ years ago. Do those games come with a warning before or after you buy them? At one point I was on the look out for an original Wii controller, when I called the store I got such vague answers. "We might have them" or a long sales pitch on their off branded Wii controllers sold in store (surprise! They are horrible quality and barely catch a read on the sensor bar) Surely they know the quality of these second market controllers they are selling/ promoting? Just a waste of money and time. The main attraction of this store seems to be the tabletop gaming. They have many events during the week, and I think that is helping with the overall traction of people going in and out of the place. It can't be their prices or selection! I truly think this place would be better off just pivoting to exclusively tabletop games, or AT LEAST take "retro" out of the name. Either way- if you're looking for retro games, don't waste your time here.
