Easily one of the best comic shops I've ever been in. It can take hours browsing everything new, old, vintage, and everything in between. Tons of selection whether it's Marvel, DC, a different publisher, or it's anime. They pretty much have everything. Great place for collectors. With two floors and a back room, you'd be hard pressed to not find at least something you like. Prices are fair, customer service is fine. Was always curious about this place being as I regularly frequent case study coffee next door. Finally checked it out and I'm glad I did. It's huge! And has an insane collection of comics, graphic novels, collectibles, pokemon card, everything. They even had a bargain table near the door that I bought a few comic books from. What a fantastic comic book store! It's my daughter's new favorite place and keeps asking when we will go back. They have a nice selection and of graphic novels and their layout was very easy to view and pick what interests you. We are going to have to come back and we are so excited to have this place in our lil neighborhood. I had seen it so many times and we had never bothered to stop in but this Sunday while next door we decided to finally check it out. I didn't even know this place existed until I was riding with my wife Pokémon go hunting and saw it was a check in. When I came in the next day I was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They had reasonably pricing and a huge selection of back issues. And they had the final two back issues I had been hunting for. This is a huge store and the stage is super great. Also, I got rose city tickets at early sale price the week before show there. I love visiting and the place is perfect to bring nerdy friends or find gifts for them. My only grip, and why 4 stars not 5, is the parking. Sadly, this is on a major street and has little in the way of parking. You have to be careful getting in and out. Also, to turn around, just got down the street and find a light or you will be stuck forever. read more

I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this store. It has a great layout. Everything is displayed really well. They have really good prices on bags and boards for comic collectors. They have some awesome toys and a great collection of trades. But my absolute favorite thing is their back issues room. It is glorious. They bag and board all their back issues (insert Mallrats reference here) and their supply is beautiful. My boyfriend mostly collects comics from the the 1940s through early 1990s. I collect more from the 1980s to current. And we both have spent alot of money here for a good amount of loot. I found some Bone comics (including first printings) in great condition and with decent prices. I also collect Haunted Mansion, Coffin Hill, Rat Queens, Black Hammer, etc and I have yet to be disappointed in their selection. My boyfriend was thrilled to see that they had so many old magazines like Eerie and Heavy Metal, specialty toys, large comic editions and some old Star Wars books packaged together. Beautiful. And of course they have an excellent amount of Amazing Spiderman, Web of Spiderman, Lobo, Detective Comics Batman, etc. They keep the back issues room walls full of artist edition covers, art and toys that filled us both with glee. I love walking upstairs to the kids comics area and looking down at the store and the art on the wall. I love walking the wall to see what new comics catch my eye and they usually keep the last 5 or so issues of a current run on the wall which is convenient if you missed an issue or 2 before discovering it. The reason I tend to prefer this store out of all the comic shops in Portland is its immense amount of back issues. I went downstairs to the employee area to use the bathroom (public use allowed) and I saw just stacks of long boxes in storage. I felt like I peeked into Hangar 51 in Indiana Jones where they stored the Ark of the Covenant. Lol. It's not like Colorado's Mile High Comics amount of boxes but it is the largest collection I've seen out here. I also really love the atmosphere and the positive attitudes of the employees. Every employee I've met there so far has been really chill and geeky. I feel like whether you are an old school comic lover or a newcomer to the wonder of comics, you'll really enjoy this store. Great selection of comics, well organized store, and aesthetically pleasing. Customer service was disappointing. My boyfriend waited in line behind one person, who the cashier was basically chatting it up with for way too long. It would make sense if no one was waiting behind the person being rung up--but this was pretty tone deaf. When my boyfriend got to the register, they flippantly greeted him and didn't say anything like, "thanks for waiting". Hopefully this isn't the norm. Your product doesn't matter if your customers don't feel like they do. read more

This place is one of the best best comic book stores we have been too, or should I say I have taken my son to. And he loves his comic shops and agreed. Very comfy atmosphere with lots to look at and even a place to sit in retro style furniture. We were there on a sunny day and it was so nice to sit and wait with the sun coming through the window! The guys working there really new there stuff. My son tends to like obscurse stuff and they knew all about it and were cool and helpful. Best comic shop we visited in Portland. Cosmic Monkey has a back room of comics. I write this because I didn't know that the first 3 times I was here. It's got a pretty large collection of newer stuff, some toys & shirts. My husband found a great copy of 300 by Frank Miller here in great condition. Friendly staff. I've called a few times and always been helped quickly. Parking is kind of irritating. Overall it's in my top 3 favorite comic shops that I seem to rotate through. read more

My go-to spot for comics in Portland. Andy, Adam, Tim, and the rest of the gang are super-nice (to adults, kids, families). Big cavernous store but very airy, full of light. Comic Store Done Right! I usually buy a couple of issues a week, but they always have a good, easy selection of graphic novels right as you come in that makes picking up what's hot and cool EZ. They have so much stuff, but it's evenly spread out so you can see everything -- just like a good bookstore. As a dad to other moms and dad: very kid-friendly store with kid graphic novels (and books!) in their own special store-front area, very cool. There's even a special kids' area upstairs with toys so they can mess around while moms and dads check on their stuff. As a manga person to other manga people: pretty good stuff here and Cosmic Monkey gets in new stuff and keeps things on the shelf so it's easy to find a whole series and catch up. They also have a cool manga creators area showcasing the best of the best, which is helpful and awesome. I could go on. It's next to the bike store + Case Study Coffee, so you pull in, get your comics, go have an iced coffee and read from your haul. Great place for NE Portland. Sandy, you should be proud. read more

Buying comic books is a lot like buying sex toys. It's a little overwhelming and can be shameful, what with all the cagey creepers and sexual frustration about. If you can't recite the oral history of Marvel or (heaven forfend) want to ask a question, you may be set upon by angry, snaggle-toothed nerds. What's a girl to do? Head to Sandy and 53rd, as it turns out. Cosmic Monkey is bright and open with knowledgeable and non-judgmental shopkeeps. I love the way it's organized, by genre instead of author. I walked out with exactly what I was looking for a "science fictiony, dystopian story with a female heroine and a little romance". It was a really fun shopping experience and I will most certainly be back. read more

Wow...what a fun store! Just a HUGE amount of comics, sci-fi stuff, fantasy stuff and comic related stuff in here. Books, figures of all shapes and sizes, comic collection accessories (sleeves, boxes, etc..) and much much more. Really a fun store to walk around and find some awesome reads. Super nice people work here, too. The store is so huge I wandered for awhile yesterday and couldn't find what I was initially looking for (but found a lot of other cool stuff). In looking for the more recent back issues of an incredibly popular comic, they had none. None!? I'm done with the comic book scene in Portland and doing my collecting online. So far there's only two that seem good, mycomicshop and midway. Been doing business with mycomicshop for years now, and just did my first with midway. We'll see how it goes. Looove the new location. I'd stopped by a few times when they had the Gateway shop and it was cramped, but the staff was friendly. I think they're doing better business with more space for customers to roam. There's even a second floor which I didn't end up checking out. I stopped by to pick up a book they didn't have...but ended up going home with several other comics anyway. The dude behind the counter left folks free to browse but seemed more than willing to answer any questions. Liked how the books were arranged - alphabetical with several months worth of back issues still on the shelves, and not sleeved so I was free to pick them up and leaf through them. Ended up buying more books because of this freedom! Also like the proximity to my house, it's the closest comic shop to Outer SE now, and I'm probably going to become a regular here because it's a simple jog off the freeway from my regular commute (and the hours are reasonable). read more

To anyone who loves comics, toys, and other goodies, this is place to go. I've been a loyal shopper ever since they were first located at the Gateway spot. I miss that place from time to time since it was nearby where I live, but the bigger space is a huge improvement. The owners are very friendly and certainly know their stuff. Once a month they have a warehouse sale where in the backroom a lot of comics are a $1 and graphic novels are %50 off. I have never been disappointed and always marvel at the selection everytime I stop by for a visit. read more

Cosmic Monkey Comics has been a favorite of mine since we found it's other location in Gateway. Although the one in Gateway is no longer there they have moved to a bigger location right on Sandy. The new shop is huge and inviting. Friendly faces, lots of things to browse and buy, there is something for everyone and the atmosphere is relaxed and cool. I started going to Cosmic Monkey on the regular because it had the widest variety of old and new comics as well as the friendliest staff. I kept going because of the atmosphere and being right on the 12 bus line made it convenient to get to. I used their box service for about a year and a half and only canceled because I had to move. The guy working at the time even put in the effort to find me comic shops to visit in the Bay Area. The comic shop I went to here made me appreciate the old shop even more for being so well stocked and having such personality. And believe me, if Cosmic Monkey had an online shop like TFAW I'd still be giving them my business. read more

This shop exceeded my expectations. I went in with a general idea of what I wanted and left with more. I was excited to see they have so much Studio Ghibli on top of the wide range of comics and graphic novels. They have a whole room for back issues and books for $5, as well as tons of posters and wall scrolls. There wasn't much to the customer service though - we weren't really acknowledged until the worker realized we were ready to check out. We didn't mind not being bothered, finding your way around the store for the first time is very easy. Everything is super well organized and the atmosphere is comfortable. I came here looking for a place that sells back issues that are about 4 years old. Apparently, I found a pretty good place to do that. The layout was very organized and spaced out. The selection was still large and full of variety. I bought the most recent issues of Convergence and 100 count of bags and boards that were priced very well. If you are into comics or comic related knick knacks, I would recommend this place as a must see. Last Note: They don't jack up prices of slightly old comics to unreasonable prices. w00t! read more

Love this place. Great selection of current and back issue comics, I've always been able to find what I'm looking for. Tons of graphic novels, and not just your basic popular selections. This is also one of the better spots in town for manga that I've found. The staff is super friendly and helpful, I've been turned on to some rad books because of them and really appreciate their enthusiasm. This place always has every graphic novel/comic you want and didn't know you wanted. They carry all of the people you probably want to read from Image, Top Shelf, etc and lots of small publisher/no publisher stuff as well. I walked in and was super surprised to see something by one of my friends the last time I was there because I've never been able to get it anywhere else. They have really unpretentious people working there that won't make you feel weird for wanting the new Forever Alone comics, and will instead bring you around to where they sell the rest of the Liz Princes (as if I didn't already have them all, duh). They support you no matter your taste. They've got a lot of other really dope stuff like posters, t-shirts, and also figurines for those a little more into things than I am (they don't judge but I probably will). There is so much art here, its a good way to spend some time no matter if you like comics or not. read more
