One of the most unique experiences as a comic book collector because it actually feels like a fallout shelter! Don't be intimated by having to ring the doorbell or go down to the basement to get to back issue heaven! Comics are somewhat organized by .50, $1, $3, and $5. They also have a large number of completed sets that would make any avid collector drool. The owner, Richard, is super friendly and is the type of guy you want to support and succeed. I heard he has a grand official opening weekend so be sure to go and support- you might even get some half off deals. Half the fun is finding some golden gems here. I can't say it's organized since I saw the same issues in the 1 dollar bin as I did the 5 dollar bins, but again did I mention how satisfying it was to find a back issue my son was looking for when you do find it? Let me start off by saying that I have been collecting comics since I was 10. So for 30 plus years I have gone to more comic shops than I can count. I personally love going through bargain bins. It gives me so much joy. Looking for something long forgotten at a great price is my absolute favorite. Some places have a few bins and some more than others. This place has by far the biggest and best bargain bins I've ever seen! All organized by price and alphabetized. Not only did I find so many books I needed but ones I am excited to add to my collection. And the owner Richie was an absolute one of a kind true gem of a human. He and I talked as I went through the bins for hours. Well after he was closed. On a holiday no less. And when it was all said and done, he even gave me a ride to meet my wife at the local bar up the street. (I bought a short box and a half and it would have been a 16min walk) And he gave us a printed out sheet with places to drink and eat for the night! If you love local comic shops and finding true hidden gems, this is the place for you. If I ever make it back to Portland, I'm coming here to be sure. read more

This is a fantastic comic book store. Very unique in that Richard has three main collections of comics ($5, $3, & $1). He also has higher priced comics up near the front. A very diverse collection of comics, and he runs specials. When I was there, he was running a Labor Day sale (30% off everything). He also sells some old Magazine. Richard told me he only buys others' collections (no new comics). He ends up getting all kinds of different ones. read more

Precursory note: only open weekends, free 1 and 2 hour parking nearby, keep track of which discount bins you pulled your comics from to make it easier on you and the owner to keep track of price (note: you might find a comic in say the $0.50 box that was in the $1.00 box. This is due to the deal he got on that specific comic. He is trying to pass on savings to his customers). Finally! A treasure trove of discount comics still kept in good order and decent condition! My bf Nick and I have been looking for a place we could find at least a $3 box of comics anywhere in the Portland Metro area, and though we've found some great shops that do some different deals and discounts, we had never found something as huge as this. When I found this place on Yelp, I was worried it was too good to be true. Both my bf and I were pleasantly surprised. There is free 1 hour and 2 hour parking around the building. When you get to the door there is a sign saying they are open and to just ring the door bell. I believe it is referring to the more modern white one but they might both work. You really only need to ring it once. Richard got there really quickly to greet us despite having come from the basement. He showed us downstairs and I suddenly felt like I was Charlie in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Where to begin? There were great discounted bundles of runs like the 4 issue limited series Nightcrawler for $10 dollars and the 6 comic issues of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for $15. And, oh baby, the long boxes! $5, $3, $1, $0.50, and even $0.25! Now let's talk customer service. Richard rocks, plain and simple. He talked to us often but not in an intrusive way. He actually showed us around so we didn't feel we had to hesitate to figure out where to start. And most importantly, to me anyway, it is very obvious that he is passionate about comics and vintage toys, and that is reflected in how he speaks to customers. He offered us 2 free comics of our choice from the $1 bin which had some amazing stuff in surprisingly good condition. More on that later. At one point a family with a little girl (prob 6 or 7) came in, and it was obvious the dad was into comics and the mom wasn't, but all of them seemed to have a great time. She asked for Spongebob comics and Richard looked really quickly through some boxes he was unloading and dispersing to different discount boxes in the store. The little girl was pleased as punch and he talked to her like she was an adult and he was just as excited about her find as she was. He asked them all if it was okay to take a picture of her with them and the comics to post to his store's Facebook page. They said yes, and I was just impressed how well he interacted with them. We spent 2 hours there and it went by in a blur. It was so much fun looking though boxes and talking with Richard when we found something we wanted to show each other like a great copy of an old Tales from The Crypt comic or an old issue of Detective Comics. Richard always remarked if he was putting something out and thought it would be of interest to us like newer independent publishers or particular character we seemed interested in like Grendel or Lady Death. A few of the comics that were more tattered were still old enough that they would still probably cost at least $5 most places, if not more and yet they were in the $1 boxes. There were also newer independent comics included such as Low and Wicked and Divine. He has just a beautiful selection of comics, as well as old toys like the original Spawn figurines, and items like original Star Wars coloring books unmarked and in good condition. He actually started talking with my bf about one of the smaller posters from a book he had cut out and put on the wall. After a moment of talking about Spiderman and bonding over a similar love of comics, he actually took it off the wall and gave it to Nick. How freaking cool is that? We're definitely going back. I paid $28 for for 24 comics including an original Bone # 6, a Bone Holiday special, a few original Lobo issues, 2 Outcast issues, and 2 Low issues, just to name a few. My bf got 20 comics for $18, most of which were Spiderman, Amazing Spiderman and Silver Surfer. Make sure to look at the photos for the huge stack of comics we got so you have an idea of what it's like there. This is definitely a place where an adult can feel like a kid again! I cannot recommend it highly enough! Go check it out for yourself! read more

Definitely won't be going back again. Guy seemed really nice at first, but after about an hour and a half going through the most unorganized boxes ever. The first comic on the stack when checking-out.... Marvel Team Up 131.. he says right away he won't be honoring the price of $5 that the comic was in.. (I only picked this comic because it was slightly better (but still rough) than the one I picked up at another shop yesterday which I actually got for cheaper *see pic). This isn't a " major key" or anything like that like he suggested. The 5 recent sales on ebay for this same comic in better condition average about 8-10 bucks. In his words "it shoulda never been in the $5 boxes" and "this comic has been on the rise this week" ...um.. Then why are you saying it shouldn't have ever been in your boxes if it's been rising just this week..? lol. I can sympathize if it was a $20 book or something. but it's not. He then recognized it had some damage and would sell it to me for $15, three times the advertised price.... Clearly he's treating his priced inventory as speculation..the place is so unorganized wouldn't surprise me if he checks the ebay prices for all priced books customers bring up.. and then tries to rob them.. he also insinuated that I probably grabbed comics from under the table and put it in there when I showed him another comic in my checkout stack also didn't have a board... (he said all his $5 books have boards, when easily 30% don't, so that's another lie) he implied he would be checking ebay for that one too, at that point I politely put all the comics I just spent over an hour looking at.... back... perhaps he thought I was a dealer/reseller... I have no idea.... but the only thing to note was I was the only customer in there when he did these bait and switch tactics. will def. never get my business again. Will also mention this place is in a dungeon, and the dude literally whipped open a 6 inch folding knife to open the Team Up 131 to inspect it.....yea... no thanks. *see pic of exact same comic I bought at another shop yesterday for cheaper. I go to that shop about 3 times a week. woulda been cool to have another shop to go to in SE...... but never again. read more

I love this place. I am a middle school teacher and often get my most reluctant readers to actually read by letting them read comics. When I told the store owner what I did and who I was buying all of the comics for, he thought that was really cool and gave me a very generous discount, which was certainly not expected but nonetheless greatly appreciated! As we were organizing the first annual Northwest Star Trek Week festival Rich Hamilton of Fallout Comics contacted us. He likes to support local events and kindly offered us a donation of 250 comics to give away during the festival. When two of the volunteers went to pick up the comics Rich showed them around what turned out to be a goldmine of a store for people looking for not just comics but all sorts of cool items. Apparently both of them left with their wallets lighter (but not by much because the prices are so reasonable). A really terrific store and definitely worth checking out. read more
