Purple ice cream w/ Reese's Pieces.

Talk about a palate cleanser. The Millennial Chum and I came here last week right after a very mediocre meal down the street involving sub-par flatbread, needing desperately to do something positive with our mouths. One of the number one benefits to hiking up a mountain (in this case Mount Mansfield)? You can eat an entire flatbread and then top it off with some ice cream if needed. Red Barn was conveniently located between the offending flatbread restaurant and our hotel, and without much research we quickly pulled in to salvage our gastro day. It's located in a pretty non-descript strip mall right on the end, which gives it the advantage of taking up the outdoor space nearby with some seating (a few benches) and one of those wooden prop/photo-ops that you can poke your head in. Definitely a cute/quaint vibe in there. Unsurprisingly, it has a rustic, farm feel on the outside with a lot of wood rafter goodness throughout. We were probably a little early for the evening rush and had the place to ourselves. I don't mean this as a negative per se, but it had some tourist trap vibes - there's a lot of local jams, etc. for sale, and a significant section of the storefront is dedicated to self-serve candy (not dissimilar from our experience at Lake Champlain Chocolates). The vast majority of flavors were pretty standard, and I opted for one of my all-time classics that I used to get at Friendly's when I was a young pupper - purple ice cream (aka black raspberry) with Reese's Pieces. Hit the spot. I thought it was a little creamier than its Friendly's counterpart, and also a smidge softer so you didn't end up chipping away at it like a sculptor (which honestly sometimes I'm into). We took our ice creams outside and ate them on a bench nearby, taking in the sights. It's right on Route 108 so it's not the most scenic view, but you do get some glimpses of the nearby farmlands/greenery. Pleasant. The service was perfectly fine. There were two people behind the counter who were very professional and efficient. We had no issues ordering or receiving our items quickly - it would have been pretty concerning if we had, honestly, given the lack of a line and the straight-forward nature of the items requested. But solid thumbs up nonetheless. If you're dabbling in the local touristy chains here, I thought this was a bit more affordable than Lake Champlain, and more down to earth. But they both have their own selling points, I suppose. We got the taste of the bad flatbread out of our mouths, and that was truly what mattered.

I'm a native Vermonter that lives in Southern NH now. When I come back to visit (a few times a year) I must get a maple creemee. I have stopped at many places, but Red Barn had the best I have ever tasted! So creamy and VERY maple-y. BIG fan!

$6 for this small scoop. Ok ice cream nothing special at all

After the obligatory tip was $6 for a single scoop. I'm not talking about a scoop sized dish that a normal ice cream shop would pack out. Saying the employee literally gave me a single small scoop. For this same price you can get a full pint - of better ice cream - at Ben & Jerry's. Been intrigued by this place a long time, glad I finally made it in so I know not to go back

1st time trying a maple cremee and it exceeded my expectations. I am dreaming about a day that I can come back and have another one.

Such a cute little icecream spot in the middle of the scenic mountains in Stowe! The service was fast, even though there was a queue, but they made everyone's icecream so fast, we hardly waited. I had their sea salt caramel and coffee with toasted coconut flakes as the topping which was delicious! I also tried the vanilla shake with their soft serve which was topped off with whipped cream and cherry, which was yummy and smooth too!

Excellent soft serve aka "creemees" - 7/10/2022

As a lover of soft serve ice cream, our friends in Stowe highly recommended that we visit Red Barn, and we are so glad we did. They are famous for the Maple flavoured soft-serve (known as "creemee" in Vermont) it is soooo very good. We bought three pints of soft serve to share of: Vanilla, Chocolate and Maple. All three flavours were delicious. Everyone was happy with their dessert! *Please support your local businesses.* **Red Barn is one of the the few Black-owned businesses in Stowe and we are thrilled to see them here. ** Enjoy!

The service was so wonderful; I am glad I stumbled upon this ice cream shop while shopping around in Stowe! Inside is a sweet tooth's dream with treats lining the walls and tons of ice cream flavors to choose from! The server kindly let me sample the ice cream as I tried to decide what I wanted - I chose the black raspberry ice cream, which was so creamy and delicious! My friends tried their popsicles and milkshakes and loved those options as well. They have more fun Vermont flavors like maple syrup that I will have to try next time!

The maple creemes here were absolutely delicious we came here every night of during visit to Stowe and already miss them now that we are back home.

If you are in Vermont, you have to try creemee! Creemee is a special type of soft serve in Vermont that is creamier than regularly soft serve. I got their maple creemee and the texture was very smooth and the maple flavor was very strong! I got a small one but they also have a kiddie one in case you just want to try a little!

Truthfully the whole experience here is lacking. The hard- dip (scooped) ice cream looked bad, in mass produced tubs. Definitely not homemade or anything close to it. We read previous reviews and after confirming the scooped ice cream looked terrible, stayed away. My complaint with this place is that I ordered a small ice cream in a cup, and received the kiddie portion, barely filled. It was a tragedy; I wouldn't even mind the smaller portion if the cup were actually filled with ice cream. The cashier ringing up the orders must have misheard me when ordering, but I couldn't confirm since we didn't have the receipt, so it was just disappointing from all angles. See the picture attached to my review. Another oddity is that they had self serve bulk candy items out in the store, but half filled, unsealed bags that looked like someone tried to get them ready for purchase? I'm not sure of the intention, as the bags were 1/4 full, I'm talking 5 gummy worms; but it was odd and I wouldn't buy pre-scooped bulk candy. The redeeming quality of this place is maple-flavored soft serve ice cream, or as they call it, creemie. It was absolutely amazing and I have had nothing like it. If you don't mind getting skimped on the ice cream- stop here to try the maple soft serve. Getting the soft serve in a waffle cone instead of a cup seemed to be the ticket to getting an expected portion of ice cream, as my sister got quite a bit in her cone. the maple ice cream was definitely worth a try, especially if you've never had it before. Otherwise, it's my opinion that you won't find a particularly pleasing or satisfying ice cream trip if you choose to visit.

Cups are not filled, so don't expect as much as you might think.

The Sodt serve is good. However, fill the cup! I've gotten plenty of soft serve and made my own at the make your own places. I know how hard it is to get it to leave a big gap like this and have never gotten it like this at other places. Seems like a profit margin trick. I won't be back.

What was left of the chocolate mud . Too late getting a pic.

Extremely expensive and small portions for average ice cream. Find another ice cream shop to satisfy your craving.

We had such a nice experience at the Stowe location. Friendly service and excellent chocolates and…read morehot chocolates. We loved the treats.

When we travel, which hasn't been often for us, we not only figure out what sightseeing we want to…read moredo and what hotels to stay at, but a huge part of it revolves around the food. Of course it does !! I look at others who deal with food on the fly, meaning they'll just grab something with no aforethought, and I'm thinking... NO f'ing way. I want the scoop on what's good, what isn't, to include meal food, snack-type foods, and my favorite, the sweet factor. Gotta hit local bakery and chocolate shops and gotta know ahead of time where those are and when they're open. As is the case with Vermont, we found A GREAT MANY places either close early (or earlier than we'd prefer) or aren't even open the days we were floating through the various towns. However, Lake Champlain Chocolates was one of the few places that is open seven days a week. Yay, no pressure to beat the clock here. Inviting presentation of beautifully crafted chocolates, and let me tell you, they tasted as wonderful as they looked. We bought and devoured the following: 1. chocolate covered orange rinds - excellent quality chocolate and extremely fresh orange rind. 2. chocolate covered apricots - same excellent chocolate, but SUPER IMPRESSED with how soft and fresh the dried apricot slices were. Really plump and easy to bite into, and the chocolate just melted in our mouths. The BEST I've had !! 3. chocolate caramels - hard to go wrong with these. Delicious... and just the right amount of chew. 4. Hazelnut truffle, champagne truffle, and a piece of toffee - we only bought one of each of these and we're sorry that was all. They were delicious, but only getting one small bite of each wasn't enough. It's difficult to know how much to get; plus we didn't want to overindulge at the beginning of our trip. Now I'm thinking, shoulda overindulged, lol. Oh well. This is a great place to stop if you want something sweet, if you want INCREDIBLY FRESH chocolates, not to mention DELICIOUS chocolates, and I understand that they are really well known for their hot chocolate, too !! However, we were there during an unseasonably hot summer day (according to the locals), so we were vying for nothing but cooling off type things. Anyway, if you're reading this review, and you're in Stowe, GO HERE !!! (They have other locations in other parts of Vermont, too, but this is the one we descended upon.
