Stowe Mercantile is a fantastic shop on Main Street Stowe. They have a lovely women's clothing boutique upstairs. The clothing offerings were so cute. I had to purchase a dress. The service was friendly and the staff were enthusiastic to help me. The downstairs level has a great assortment of homewares, souvenirs, and local food items. We bought a few jams from a local Vermont company for ourselves and as gifts for family members. I loved the large selection and spent a good 30 mins browsing. Very enjoyable experience and atmosphere. The store has sampling stations throughout so you can taste the products before purchasing. I also enjoyed the fun photo opportunity in store. They had an old ski lift car you could sit in for pics. read more

I really wanted to love this place... and did up to a point. They have all kinds of things to buy... some are touristy and souvenir in nature, but other things are interesting, fun or even pretty. The problem I had with Stowe Mercantile is that I found out they severely price-gauge the consumer. Let's be honest... I'm sure I've overpaid for plenty of stuff in my time. Of course I have, and I'd do it again if I really want to. However, something just rubbed me the wrong way in this place. I was looking at some "Princess" game for my granddaughter. I saw the retail price was $14, and the store sticker price was $21 or $22. I just put the game down when I saw that... and they were blatant about it... didn't even try to cover over the retail price. They placed the store sticker right next to the original price. That was a bridge too far, and I just got pissed off and didn't want to support this store... so I didn't. read more

While visiting Stowe and the charming shops on Main Street, we loved going to Stowe Mercantile to look around at all the wonderful local treasures. There were so many cute things to look at from ornaments, candles, hand made items, adorable Vermont t-shirts, vintage Vermont pictures, and all kinds of local delicacies. I really wanted to buy Vermont Maple syrup but there were multiple choices and I didn't know what they meant and how to make my decision. I found a nice woman who worked there and nicely explained it to me and that they have a long shelf life. I really appreciated her patience and kindness. I also really loved the maple candies. They were so good. My cousin got me a really cute wooden ornament with a covered bridge that I wanted and a nice Vermont Magnet. She also got my mom and I beautiful Vermont glass ornaments with the Stowe gondola and a covered bridge. My husband and I also got two cute Vermont t-shirts that were a great price and we really love. They're super soft and really nice. Can't wait to wear them. Definitely check them out. Went here with my parents as part of our Vermont Vacation on August 28th 2023. We went here after driving around the town of Stowe, and visited the covered bridge. This is a big general store with lots of local goods like syrup, beets, some decorations. It's not bad, just not my cup of tea. My mom brought syrup, beets, and i brought some candy that was sold via the pound, and glad to see that there because i was a bit hungry. They had loads of candies, from sour patches (watermelon and kids), Sour worms, gummy worms, starburst, some liquirice, wonka nerds, and many other candies. i brought a bag of sour patches watermelon, starbursts, skittles, nerds, and some worms. I would give zero stars if I could. Today I went in with my daughter she has high functioning, autism, but sometimes gets a little overstimulated. She just got a really grade on a test at school and I wanted to treat her to some candy. They had a good assortment of candy personally, I thought some of them were a little stale but what can you expect. As we were online to check out my daughter had a few pieces of candy from the bag. Obviously we were going to pay for the candy and we weren't stealing. But the woman berated my daughter and told me she was charging me more for the candy she had eaten. Personally, I don't usually mind other people disciplining my children when they are in the wrong, but this daughter is on the spectrum and needs a kind of special care and education. My daughter was so confused and scared. She cried in the car, and I had to explain that sometimes people "don't know how to show kindness" I saw some other comments about a woman working here who isn't good with children. I got her name as Charlotte from my receipt. Let's just say I'll never be returning here again and I advised all parents with small children to not come here and take your business somewhere else. read more

Racist employees. My husband (black) and I (white) wanted to walk around Stowe after snowmobiling in the morning and do some shopping before going back to the hotel. We kept on some of gear since we were still freezing and was a very cold day outside. We checked out and bought many items and I though everything was fine until my husband tells me that the second cashier that came to counter to "help us" was following him around the store the entire time. I then put it together and made sense why they were asking about our activities and my snow suite and asking if it was two pieces or not. I (not realizing the intent) showed under my jacket and talked about our morning and just thought they were being nice. We come from the south and are use to racism but did not expect it in Northern Vermont. I wish my husband would have told me before we bought souvenirs but my husband knew how much I wanted some small nick backs and tshirts to remember our trip. Once again, not surprised, just disappointed in people and their inherent behavior. read more

We have loved coming to this store for years. On our trip today, we had picked out an assortment of snacks and apparel. As we were getting ready to check out, our youngest took a piece of popcorn from the sample spoon. The worker yelled at her, "you can't do that"! We immediately asked what happened and apologized. The worker continued to berate the five year old, yelling how she now had to go wash the spoon. Our youngest burst into tears while the worker just stood there, seemingly gloating at making a young child cry. I've never witnessed anything so cold in all of Vermont. Fun store to browse; I especially enjoyed looking at their specialty food items - I picked up bourbon maple syrup! The store also has a pick your own candy section that is fun for kids. It is a bit narrow in there so navigating the store with a stroller for example would be challenging and uncomfortable. read more

Nice cute gift shop if you are in town for a week; staff might need some training for basic manners. Took 4 yo for a day break from skiing. Kid interested in the gondola model obviously designed to attract people in and out for photos and whatnot. Boy opened and shut the door a few times and we got "hey! hey! hey!" immediately from behind our back. I would say that staff member made louder noise than my boy. Please do not hey hey hey anyone in your shop especially small kids -- should never be recommended. Why? you can discuss more in your staff meeting. read more

They have an extensive selection of Stonewall Kitchen sauces and condiments. But also some other local VT brands. They have tshirts and sweat shirts. Many were currently on sale. My favorite was the selection of iron wall hooks. It's a perfect place to pick up a souvenir or gift with a range of prices. A very fun, large store with many areas to explore. There's no doubt that everyone will find something they like here. Also, I'm a big fan of the fact that they have a photobooth - my husband and I used the booth together and got great photos. The staff is very nice, friendly, and helpful if there's something specific you're looking for. Also, make sure to go all the way to the back of the bottom floor to check out the great fudge and other treats. We didn't have a chance to try out the cafe on the main floor, but the food certainly smelled amazing. read more

I learned about this small family business from David Venable on QVC and am I glad I did. The owners and every employee that I have had the pleasure in talking with are as sweet as the Homemade Fudge, Old Fashion Candy and their Pure Vermont Maple Syrup!! Their Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge was too die for, as well as the Old Fashion Lemon Drops and Old Fashion Licorice Candy Drops. Although they were unable to ship one out of stock item they went way out of their way to substitute me with a few of their own favorites, with no complaint out of me. I most likely received the better end of the deal. This showed me how dedicated and caring these family business owners and their employees are when it comes to ensuring the customers are highly satisfied. They even went as far as sending me a personal note explaining how they had to substitute for an out of stock item. Stowe Mercantile is just like it stated on a card enclosed, -A Great Country Store-. Don't just take my word for it. This is a fun, old style five and dime type store (albeit it with downtown Stowe prices) with a wide array of products that can easily keep one occupied for a couple hours of browsing pleasure. There's something for everyone if you're looking to drop a few bucks on Vermontalia for yourself or souvenirs for the kin folk back home. read more

I could have hung out in this store all day! Such a great collection items from foods to lotions and bath items to toys and handmade household goods. They had so many snacks available to sample. I loved that I could try before I buy. We were in Vermont on vacation and I wanted to bring my parents back a little something. I put together a great bag of treats from this store and my parents loved everything I brought back. The staff was also very friendly. My son must have tried 6 different kinds of fudge before he decided what to buy and the lady behind the counter was very kind and patient. Been shopping at the store for 15 years and the first time I attempted to return anything at all, in this case an unused food item, they told me they don't accept those back. The only reason I wanted to return it was that my wife had already bought the exactly the same type of jelly the day before. The first person at the counter said yes and started to process the return, when another employee came over and inspected the jam jar suspiciously, and then said we don't take food items back. Not sure what he thought we had done to the jar that was never opened but it was insulting. Needless to say will take our business elsewhere from now on. I am very disappointed in t his store. I travel with friend to Stowe every year, and I spend quite alot of money there in souveniers and gifts. I thought I would order some Christmas gifts for there for 2014 for friends I travel with and some that couldn't make it in 2014. I order in mid-November and ask for it to be received a week before Chistmas so I could go out with friends to gift out. They didn't ship until a week before Christmas and it was schedule for delivery on Christmas Eve, so my friends wouldnt get until after Christmas. BUT, it was damanged and returned to the store by UPS. It wasn't the store fault, but had it shipped earlier as requested I mightve received it. I called to ask if they could get another order out and was told they had to receive the damaged mat'l first. I asked couldn't they check the tracking and see it was damaged and was told it didn't matter, they had to receive it back first. Whatever! UPS notified my when it was returned to the store and I called the next day to ask for it to be shipped, and was told it would be and a new tracking number was emailed to me. I saw it was delivered to my house a week later, and couldn't wait to open it. I ordered 3 sampler beers, fudge, and maple bacon aoili. I was missing 2 sample beers. I called and was told they would get them in the mail. 2 weeks later I called to say I haven't received anything and asked for the tracking number. The manager got on the phone and said UPS has delivered everything. I stated I received everything except 2 beer samplers and would like to receive them. Pam, the manager, stated that was my job to locate the beers, and I told her no it is not. I'm letting her know I never received my complete order. She said alot, orders get lost by UPS but the Mercantile doesn't hear about it. I said "you mean people don't call to ask where they orders are" she said "no, they contact UPS". I don't believe that. I told her in my job I deal with UPS and they won't even talk with the receiver about the orders, they have to hear from the shipper. Pam, came back on the phone and said her boss said they would handle it and contact UPS. I asked what if UPS says they delivered it, I'm telling her I didn't not received my complete order. I would not be calling over and over for 2 beer samplers that total $18.00 just for kicks. Pam said we'll see what UPS says. I received a call on Saturday, for a nice guy, that said they had contacted UPS and I would be hearing from them. This takes them out of the loop. I am so aggreivated, I will never spend another dime in the store. I've seen other stores carry what they have and I can order direct the aoili, but they're a local store and I wanted them to have the business, but if this is the business you get, nevermind. I will make sure all my friends know about this experience. I've already contact my person that puts all the group plans together and he asked me write this review. I wish they would just credit my money back to me and call it quits. read more
