We order take out from here a couple times a month. It's good Chinese food and they are always really friendly.

After having Chinese food several times from another local place, which was always dreadful, we realized there is another Chinese restaurant in town. What a relief! The food was wonderful. Amazing food. My new favorite is the House Special Chow Mein. So full of flavor and more than enough in one order for 3 meals for myself.

I tried this place on a whim and I'm glad I did. The food tasted really good and the portions were quite large. I had plenty of leftovers for when I got hungry an hour later. Yeah, Chinese does that to me. The tea was good and the egg soup was yummy. I had the sweet and sour pork and shrimp with rice and chowmein. Good Chinese food, much better than you would expect to find in a town with 7000 residents. For a town this size, one Chinese restaurant would be nice but Stayton has 3 Chinese restaurants. Of the three, Red Apple is the best and the quality of the food compares with the best of that of much larger cities. As another poster mentioned, both the fried rice and crab puffs are excellent. I personally enjoy red apple very much. We eat there at least once a week. Their chicken in sesame sauce is to die for and the lo mein is excellent as well. Every time that we've been in there, the service has been good and the food even better. While there have been a couple sub-par meals, 99.9% of the time the food is awesome. The service is great and we're always treated well. We're frequent customers and this is one of two Chinese restaurants we're willing to eat at in the Stayton/Salem area. The General Tso Chicken (extra spicy) and crab puffs are the best! read more

Bland food. I give it a one, because they do have really good Crab Puffs. That is it; everything else is bland even if you order spicy.

Went with my momma today for lunch. I was impressed as I never would have thought that Stayton would have a good Chinese restaurant. I really liked this place. The hot and sour soup was thicker then I am used to, but tasty. The cashew chicken was light and nice. The price was fantastic. Lunch with leftovers for less then 15 bucks for the both of us. Do yourself a favor and do not go here! This was absolutely the worst Chinese food I have Ever eaten, and I have been to a lot of shady , hole in the wall joints in my time. After only two bites everyone at the table was seriously against taking a third. This was a first encounter with the local Chinese food. Our waitress was friendly and bubbly. Great prices , good food and huge proportions! One big turn off was we watched a waitress take an order and while doing so she wiped her nose area like 4-6 times. Unsanitary. I did tell a lead waitress who said she would address that. The decor is very out dated and looks like the building could use some repairs and updated paint. I will go back. read more

Not vegetarian or vegan friendly at all. Even their "vegetable" dishes contain animal products such as chicken powder as confirmed by the owner. Their front of the house staff is NOT knowledgeable about these things so do not trust their answer outright. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think twice...Recommended to me by a local shop owner. I ordered a simple meal from the combo section of their menu. Fried shrimp, fried rice and chow mein with pan fried noodles on the side. I swear they used cocktail shrimp with so much tough batter not only chewy but no flavor. Hardly any veggies in the chow mein,fried rice was white I truly doubt it was ever in a frying pan same goes for the pan "fried" noodles. The meal was the worst Chinese food I have ever dumped into my garbage disposal. Oh yeah...they also water down the red dipping sauce so thin I couldn't believe it. What a waste. read more

While on vacation out west a couple of times, we ate at Red Apple. It seems to be a family owned business as many of the best Chinese Restaurants are. I have eaten in many Chinese and Asian Restaurants within the United States, and years back in different parts of Asia. When we ate at the Red Apple, it was filling up and we had guests with us. The waitress was very courteous and working very fast. We started out with appetizers, the sliced roast pork and tempura prawns. Both were excellent. The pork was sliced in front of us. It was some of the best I had ever tasted. We had Kung Pao Chicken which was served and tasted perfect with the peanuts on top. We had combination fried rice which was really fried in a wok. Many of the big chain Chinese Restaurants serve you fried rice that is not fried but seasoned in a steamer. All in all the entire meal tasted very authentic with the original Chinese dishes. I did note on the menu that there were some American invented Chinese dishes like Chop Suey. I never have that. I am looking forward to another trip out west to eat at Red Apple again. I highly recommend the Roast Pork, any of the fried rices, and any of the Kung Pao dishes. read more

When I called their number at 11:15 to advise we were at the restaurant but it was locked, the owner hung up on me before I even finished my sentence. The food is absolutely amazing and one of my most favorite Chinese restaurants! The staff was very kind, although they are fairly busy, they still give outstanding customer service and check up on you! Most of the terrible reviews on here about the staff not smiling back or not replying back to their customers, I hope you know that they probably are not fluent in English. Some of them might not know how to respond. It's good to be kind to your customers, but they didn't give offensive comments to their customers. If I were working all day, I wouldn't feel like I am obligated to give a smile to every customer I meet. some of the people with negative reviews on here were very rude and disrespectful in the restaurant. I saw some guy throwing food in there! I would've kicked them out if it was my place! Me, myself being Vietnamese, from people that I have met, Asians aren't as friendly as americans sometimes. But everyone was raised differently. so people who come into this restaurant, don't be so selfish and just know everyones culture is DIFFERENT. if you are going to dine at a place that you are unfamiliar with the culture, don't be so damn rude and respect their culture and know the standards. read more

This place used to be really good. By far the best in town. The food is usually really good, with huge portions. Service has always been great. All appetizers are fantastic. All that said I don't know what's happened in the kitchen lately but it's been pretty subpar. The last time we ordered take out was beyond disgusting. We found 3 flys in our general tsos chicken! Right in the middle of the box. Don't know if we'll ever go back. It's really disappointing because the other choices in town, while having never found flys in our food, are just not good. read more

Never coming back to this place!!!! Customer service is the worst I seen. The waitress was rude, while she took our order. Than when my food came and I asked if I can have them redo it because my sweet and sour shrimp and pork tasted like the battered didn't cook all the way. (It also looked that way, I never seen something fried be so white) She rudely walked away, as she asked me what part wasn't cook right. I had to raise my voice so than she can hear me because at this point she was already walking behind me. I repeated and said all of it. The battered taste like it didn't cook all the way. Her reply was our shrimp is like that! As she walk the other direction she said I will have them redo it. At this point I felt so uncomfortable, I told my husband I didn't want to be their. She walk by our table, told me one more time I already order an other one for you. (She didn't stop she kept walking) I asked her to please cancel it. Her reply was with an attitude "I already order it so..." At that point an other lady came and explain to me why battered tasted like that. I explain to her that the waitress was incredibly rude and I just wanted to leave. My husband paid for his plate, that he didn't finished either. I couldn't believe the attitude that lady had.
