Vaca Recycling seemed to be V Town's preferred recycling center, so, I thought today would be the day to see why. The staff are courteous and stayed busy weighing recyclables and returning the emptied bins to the area for customers to grab as they arrived. It was fast, easy, and painless. I didn't even have to show ID! (Only required on sales over $100). I was given a receipt in no time and I walked a short distance to redeem my cash from the convenient store in the same lot. The parking lot is small. But, not somewhere I couldn't maneuver through. Vaca Recycling is located on E. Monte Vista and Callen Road. It shares a parking lot with a gas station (Pemex? ..I believe it's called) I'll come back again when I have another load of recycles to unload :)

Let's start at the beginning, there was a LOT FULL sign at the entrance, not blocking at all & I saw no attendant there bringing cars in from other lot or anything so I wasn't going to trust that, I slowly pulled in & surprisingly found ONE singular spot open right in front! I wasn't sure if it was a walkway to the front but the line wrapped around the next 3-4 spots so I knew I wouldn't be in any way. I got all my recycling in the first two wired bins I could snag near me, it wasn't until I was in line that I noticed a small sign, not even near the empty cans, that described what materials they wanted placed in specific bins. (There's wired & blue plastic ones) I don't believe I followed what they wanted exactly but they still took my materials! So that's good. I had a broken beaker in my glass & mentioned it to the gentleman doing the weighing & he told me they'd take it I'm fine! I watched as he weighed out my minimal amount of materials & then wrote me out a receipt of sorts. I got to the front, the lady on the right took my clipboard & then said the lady on the left will give me my cash. NOW, I had read Yelp reviews on this place before going & a person said a lady fitting this one's description had jipped her $10 ! Off of a $65 total! Insane! So I made sure to check my money before even turning around to leave, I could tell my amount was $11 & I flipped up the 10 & said politely, "this is only $10, I'm supposed to have $11?" She got flustered & apologized while digging out another dollar for me. I'm glad I read reviews bc I might've walked off & got in my car before realizing, then probably would've been too scared to say something! So that lady being a serial jipper & the state of the parking lot, potholes & no attendant are the reasons for stars knocked off! This place is so far east in Fairfield I might as well just go to VacaRecyling, I enjoyed that place!

He helped us remove junk from our garage and was done within half an hour! John was even kind and thoughtful enough to give me a call a few minutes after he left to remind me to close the garage door (which I absolutely would have forgotten about otherwise lol!) I had a terrible experience at CalWest Recycling. The owner was incredibly rude and unprofessional…read morefrom start to finish. Not only was he cursing at me, but he also called me a "dick," which is completely unacceptable behavior for someone running a business. To make matters worse, I was instructed to unload and move my own pallet of batteries for recycling. After I had already done the work, I was suddenly told I couldn't continue because I was wearing Birkenstocks. If that was actually a safety policy, one of the employees could have easily told me before I started unloading instead of waiting until I was finished. When I was told I had to wait in my car, I simply walked over to my vehicle, and the owner continued insulting me by calling me a "dick" as I left. Customer service and basic professionalism were completely absent. There are plenty of other recycling businesses that treat their customers with respect. I would definitely recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Called in for a price on clean copper and once I arrived to location they said owner wasn't there…read moreand they gave me a different price per lb on the copper. Man said he was going based off what was in the computer. After seeing the price difference I wanted to separate the copper to make a couple extra dollars since I had it mixed. I asked the man handling the transactions that told me a different price on the copper if he can lend me some clippers and he said he cant let me borrow them yet he had my ID and I was going to do it right in front of him. Words cant explain how frustrated I was. I ended up taking a loss at the end of the day and affected me mentally due to financial struggles.
