Tasty dog with onions, cream cheese, and jalapeños.
Justin M.

Good vibe, lots of seating with several bar options, and a great shaded patio, whats not to like if you want to hang outside and watch a game and have some food and drinks. The food wasn't amazing, but it was decent bar food. The salad was stacked well, the hotdog was hearty and mixed some good flavors. The bun could have been a bit softer, is was more like a hoagie roll, but it the spot. I'd got back for the atmosphere and relaxing outdoor partio. Its a good casual place to meet some friend and have decent bar options for food and drink.

Crush Cucumber Sour - I'm a fan now!

Thought I would jump in to help up their current rating of 3.7 start as my yesterday's experience at this establishment in the LoHi was quite good. I was in the neighborhood for my side hustle shifts so the purpose of my visit was to grab something quick so I would be able to eat in the car after my assignment was done. When I saw the Chickpea Pesto on the digital menu, I simply couldn't think of anything else. I went with it without any sides. The price was $11. The food preparation didn't take too long despite being quite busy in the mid afternoon on Easter. Quick service is always a plus. In a matter of 10 minutes or so, the lady with whom I placed my order handed me my food. When I saw the inside of the container, I knew something went wrong. It appeared that what was between the buns was indeed chickpea basil but I ordered the wrap version of the Chickpea Burger as that option was indeed listed on the menu. Turns out, the manager (Mookie) who stepped in to correct the situation said that version was supposed to be taken off/out from the menu (or something along those lines he said) but it had still been remaining on it. He generously and kindly offered to get me something else with no additional charge so I ordered the Cobb Salad to substitute it. Right after placing it though, Mookie realized that his kitchen staff could still make the wrap version of the veggie burger so he had it quickly made and brought it to me. In the meantime, my Cobb Salad was never cancelled so he also brought that out. And all of a sudden, I had three dishes with the price of one dish ($11). Oh boy, I truly felt bad for this so I gave him my quick apology for all the confusion and mishaps. He was so pleasant about it and said I could keep all three with "Don't worry about it" comment. Since I didn't need three dishes, I gave the salad to my colleague friend who was in the restaurant with me (she ordered chicken tenders so she too, ended up with two dishes with one dish price!) m Thanks to Mookie and his kind staff for the excellent service my colleague and I received yesterday. As for the Chickpea Pesto.... As I got back to my car, I ate the much needed meal before I headed my way to what was next. I didn't realize that I was famished; I ended up devouring both the wrap and the burger in a matter of 15 minutes. And I was shocked as to how decent the chickpea pesto was. Well-marinated with overall light taste. Quite refreshing to say the least. Recess is mainly a young people's hangout place. Dog friendly where when we were in the restaurant the patio was filled with people with their adorable furry friends. Yesterday's pleasant temperature made the perfect opportunity for many to dine in outside under the sun. I shall definitely return to order me the same Chickpea dish. I hope to see it remain on it next time I go here.

I enjoyed my time here so much! It is lush and cute, with a dynamic field thanks to the stairs and levels that are built into the ambience. You immediately get an indoor outdoor field, with lots of picnic table style seating, some high tops, and mister to call you off from the hot day. It feels extra tucked away and cozy with the trees built into the entire atmosphere, the location was my favorite part of this place I thought their drink selection was pretty good, I tried a Riki tequila, seltzer, which I had never had before, and was delightful, and at 7% alcohol was the perfect level of strong, but manageable. We wanted to play one of their board games, this was my biggest issue with the place, most of the games were missing pieces, the markers were all dead, and most of them really weren't playable. We got a deck of cards from the bar by giving our ID as collateral instead. There isn't really any table service, it's a seat self type of situation and you can just go back to the bar whenever you need a new drink. I'm not sure if they have food as we did not order any, but the vibes were good. I just wish they had more seating with actual chairs. picnic tables and chairs with no back are so uncomfortable for me and a real pet peeve when hanging for long periods of time.

Love the vibe of this place for a good patio/outdoor meal/drink and appreciate the multi level layout tucked away off the main street. Honestly didn't expect much food-wise - seems like the place you go for the vibe and expect subpar bar food but honestly one of the best chicken Caesar wraps I've had and the tots were *chefs kiss* will def be back!

Food was reasonably priced, drinks a little bit more expensive! The overall atmosphere and vibes have been nice there. I've gone in the summer when it's been more crowded and in the winter when it's slow. Both times I brought my pup, super dog friendly and sweet! He got to have his own lil dog friendly meal each time as well. Parking was such a hassle each time, and usually need to go walk a distance from a paid parking lot or paid parking spot nearby.

Wonderful beer garden! There is a ton of out door seating & the service is great. Great music and vibes. They also have gluten free beer which is great!

I'm hungry. Why close so early for food? It's not even 8pm. I've been before, it's fine. Never really busy. Would be better as a gay bar. Edit: Wtf is this 15 dollar trash for? I thought I was getting tarot cards.

Wings - lemon pepper

We had a great time at recess! Sat outside and watched the opening game of the nfl season. We had really nice cool weather had cover over our heads in case of rain! We got the Buffalo chicken wrap and the lemon pepper wings. Both were spot on! The tater tots were crunchy and salty! The wings were tender and had a nice little crisp to them. They needed a bit more seasoning/flavor but the integrity of the wing was 5/5. The wrap was bangin! Not too spicy, had some greens for crunch and the cut up chicken was a nice touch! We had bar service but there were no lines so we got our drinks and food very quickly! Definitely will be back

Great patio vibe on a Friday afternoon/night! Good food! 2 points... 1 - top the nachos better! 2 layers of toppings will do! Great toppings but too many bare chips! 2 - For $6 extra, I need more chicken on my cesear salad! Taste was phenomenal though! Fun tourist visit :)

A finished Moscow mule

Best place to be! The surrounding area has so many restaurants so I stopped by here before and after eating dinner. Drinks were great! Got a Moscow mule, and it went down smooth. The bartenders and security were very friendly and outgoing. I think Recess has one of the best outdoor seating areas I've been to - it beats a lot of places downtown and in other cities. Would definitely come back.

Fun place to watch football outside and food is great for a sports bar! I loved the Buffalo chicken wrap and wings paired well with a beer. It's a whole vibe!

Of course there are variations like a Michelada, house cocktails, wines, NA options, etc. The difference between producing lagers and ales is MASSIVE, and I tip my cap to everyone involved in crafting beers that have put Denver on the map. The Slow Pour Pils is one of three beers that I would consider the unofficial beer of Denver. It takes five minutes to pour, is served in a custom made glass (really cool story behind this), and has the perfect floating foam (like a cloud) sitting perfectly atop the beer. I crushed two of their Italian Pilsners yesterday. This is simply a fantastic beer. The Helles and Dunkel surely are not to be missed. But do one thing, get their Oktoberfest when it comes out (usually around mid September). It's one of the best I've ever had. There's a lot of stories inside this building. The legendary pieces of equipment, the unique brewing methods, the different spaces to hang out, etc. There's a reason Bierstadt has been tapped as the brewery "where the brewers go." To me, they can never receive a higher compliment. I'm really glad they're still kicking after celebrating their 10th anniversary. Almost a teenager!!! It's always fun visiting this place. This is a Denver must when it comes to breweries. You might not summit a 14er at this particular Bierstadt, but you'll find some of the best traditionally brewed beers in the country.

Loved listening to the bands, and exploring the huge space. They have olllllld school pinball game, giant jenga, gigantic cornhole, trash can sized beer pong, and ladder ball (normal size). They also have an original Nintendo with Mario. Seating a little tricky, be careful sitting on the benches, they move in odd ways. But loved the tables and chairs upstairs with the perfect view of the stage! Service was my only complaint- I think the first guy at the bar was having a hard time because they were so busy. I waited at the bar for a while without being acknowledged, then by the time he did finally notice me he just held up a finger. Finally a chick came over and took my order, but it took a while. She was perfectly nice, however, and it wouldn't stop me from returning or recommending them. The helles was a decent German beer with a good depth of flavor- I would come back and try their other beers for sure. Highly highly recommend and will absolutely be back for other events! Bring back emo night please!

There's an outdoor garden with plenty of shade. There's indoor sitting as well if you prefer. The service was excellent! The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and let us sample a few beers before we made our selection. We were really in the groove. Enjoying our carefully selected beers, exhausted and hungry, we anxiously awaited our food selection. We decided that we would share a hand tossed, oven fried pizza, ( well that's the image we had in our imaginations). I was already planning on what to drink next, since my first yummy beer was crunching my thirst and hunger at the same time. And then it happened. Our pizza arrived. Right away we could tell it was a frozen pizza, but not the new fancy kinda frozen pizza, you know the ones that are, "not too bad for a frozen pizza", pizza. This was more like, I'm in middle school and, "this is all that's left in the fridge", kinda of frozen pizza. The pizza was so bad that we didn't finish it. The salt and bad sauce ruined the taste of the beers. And my anticipated second beer evaporated into a memory

Cute, fun spot for a big group or a night out…read more I've been to Happy Camper twice now, first for my engagement party and most recently for a birthday party, and both nights were a blast. It's very cute inside, with lots of string lights and plenty of room for big parties. You can make reservations, and they'll give you a full wrap-around U-shaped corner booth, which is great whether you want to sit all night or stand up and mingle. They also let you bring in your own cake for a cake cutting fee of around $25, I believe. There's also more of a bar-type area with smaller tables. The vibe works for a night out, dinner with a couple of friends, or a big group. Since we ordered a bunch and shared as a table both times, I've gotten to try quite a bit. For appetizers, the jalapeño homies were tasty and actually quite spicy. I love spice, and these had a kick. The potato skins were solid, and the whipped feta was good, though nothing crazy. The giant pretzel is a classic bar pretzel and tasty. The standout was the pulled pork nachos. I don't usually go for nachos, but these were loaded with toppings and great to share. The pizzas are the main event, and I'm a big fan of the quality across the board. The barbecue chicken, buffalo chicken, and chicken ranch were all classic and tasty. The large Matt has the classic everything: various meats, olives, mushrooms, and so on. My favorite so far is the large Nadine, with cupped pepperoni, ricotta, and hot honey, which makes for a great combination. The small Birria-za is a close second, with beef birria, jalapeños (not too spicy), and a birria dipping sauce. We were also there with a vegetarian, and the truffle mushroom pizza was surprisingly good. There are lots of fun drink options and everything I tried was quite good. The only things I haven't tried are the desserts, which I've had my eye on for next time.
