I loved interacting with them, the woman very engaging personable warm and friendly. I took a dress where I needed the arms shortened by 6" and though that might not seem like such a hard task, the fabric was very fine mesh with a slip underlay--a two piece attached dress, and I was doubtful that they could pull it off. I took it in with a lot of trepidation, apprehensive that they'd tell me it couldn't be down. Well, I'll be damned if she wasn't super confident that it was not problem at all. I picked it up a week later, and voila! It was perfect, looked as good as the original with a slight flare to the fabric. They have a special machine for this type of work. I have now found my go-to place for all things dry clean or laundered or altered. They're in downtown SM and I think there's parking garage nearby if you can't get street. Prices are reasonable.

I was disappointed with the quality of the alterations I received at Fancy Alterations, especially…read moregiven the $900 total cost, paid in cash. I needed my wedding dress hemmed, a bustle added, the bra cups replaced, and removable straps added. The bustle was the best part of the work: it was done with five loops and clear buttons and worked well. The replacement bra cups were also good quality, but they were only stitched in three places, which allowed them to move around constantly. I had to readjust them repeatedly to keep them from showing through my dress. The hemming cost $650 alone, which I found disappointing given the results. The hem was too long despite wearing the same shoes to my fitting as I did on the wedding day, and I ended up stepping on my dress throughout my wedding day. The hem fabric tore on my way to taking photos, and my photographer had to help me pin it up so I could have my first dance. The removable straps were also disappointing, specifically the way that they were secured. I was given satin spaghetti straps that matched the color of my dress but didn't match its overall look. While I recognize that I hadn't provided the straps myself, the method used to attach them was concerning. A metal hook, similar to the hook on the back of a bra, was sewn onto each strap and attached to a small thread loop inside the bust of the dress. The stitching was not secure enough to support the tension, causing the metal hook to show when the dress was worn. Worse, the thread snapped the very first time I tried the dress on at home, and the hook detached from the strap. Before the wedding, I ended up flying my dress out to the Midwest so my mom could secure the bra cups, add embellishments to the satin straps, and sew the straps directly into the dress. My mom has decades of sewing experience and was also disappointed by the quality of the workmanship relative to the price. I understand that wedding dress alterations can be expensive, and I was willing to pay for quality work to feel confident in my dress on my wedding day. Unfortunately, I ended up needing additional repairs and adjustments, and the hem caused problems during the wedding itself. The bustle was well done, but overall, I don't feel the quality of the work justified the cost. Based on my experience, I would not return to Fancy Alterations.

I brought in my Untamed Petals welcome party dress over two months ago to have the hem shortened, sleeves altered, and dress taken in. From the very beginning, I repeatedly asked for an estimate of what the alterations would cost, but I was never given a clear price. Had I known what I would eventually be charged, I would have taken my dress elsewhere. Throughout those two months, the older woman working on my dress had me come in multiple times for fittings specifically to ensure the dress was being altered to fit my body correctly. I made the time to attend these appointments, trusting that the repeated fittings meant everything was being carefully measured and adjusted. This makes the final result even more frustrating and disappointing. Fast-forward over two months, and I finally picked up my dress today, just 10 days before leaving for my wedding. Not only was I shocked to be told the alterations would cost $550, but the dress now barely zips up! The woman helping me was visibly struggling to get the zipper closed. After multiple fittings over the course of two months, how is it possible that the final fit is this poor? What was the purpose of having me come back repeatedly if the dress was ultimately going to be this tight? When I questioned the price, the cost was blamed on the light beading on my Untamed Petals dress. While I understand that certain fabrics and embellishments can require additional work, this should have been communicated and discussed before the alterations were completed, not when I arrived to pick up my dress. Unfortunately, the disappointment didn't stop there. I also dropped off four pairs of my fiancé's pants that he needed for our wedding. One pair was cut too short, and rather than taking accountability for the mistake, the explanation I received was that she had been extremely stressed. I understand that running a business can be overwhelming, but customers should not have to pay the price for someone else's stress, especially when trusting a professional with clothing for such an important occasion. Between the lack of upfront pricing, the $550 surprise alteration bill, the multiple fittings that still resulted in a poorly fitting dress, and the mistake with my fiancé's pants, this entire experience has been incredibly frustrating. I trusted this business with clothing for one of the most important weekends of my life, and instead of feeling excited, I am left stressed and disappointed just days before my wedding.
