Tatiana is truly a miracle worker!! I frantically brought her my wedding dress after initial alterations by a different tailor had gone very wrong. The waist was way too tight, digging into my sides and making the whole line of the dress extremely unflattering. Tatiana was able to essentially remake my dress so that it fit my body and actually looked good! She moved the waistline to the correct spot for my natural waist (after two other tailors had told us this was impossible), and completely hid the attachment line. She reshaped the sweetheart neckline and figured out how to add the satin short sleeve I was wanting so that it looked like it was an original part of the dress! (the dress was originally strapless). She also applied all the lace detailing to the sleeve and through the bodice. This was an extremely complicated alteration and Tatiana truly saved the day - for a very reasonable price! I came in a couple of weeks ago to have three pairs of pants hemmed. When I arrived, there was a customer ahead of me being helped, so I waited patiently. I noticed that the woman at the front desk was very attentive and polite with the customer before me (an older Caucasian woman). However, when it was my turn, her attitude toward me was noticeably different. She wasn't very friendly and didn't seem interested in providing good service. She quickly asked how long I wanted the hems, I showed her, and she gave me a pick-up date without double-checking measurements or confirming details. It felt very rushed and impersonal. When I returned two weeks later to pick up my pants, the same woman seemed confused about my order and the pickup date. She told me the total was $75 for three pairs, which I already thought was on the higher end, but I decided to try them anyway based on the positive Yelp reviews. When I went to pay with my credit card, she abruptly told me it was cash only, which caught me off guard especially since that was never mentioned when I dropped the pants off. Luckily, I happened to have enough cash on me. When I got home and tried on my pants, I was extremely disappointed to find that all three pairs were hemmed to different lengths. For the price they charge, I expected much better craftsmanship and customer service. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Overall, this experience was very frustrating from start to finish, poor communication, unprofessional service, and trash work. Tatiana (spelling?) was very helpful when I came in with some emergency alterations. I had less than 24 hours to tailor two suit jackets. She was able to turn them both around the same day, and the fit is great. The price was a little higher than I expected but totally worth the quick turnaround. With past owners the service was impeccable and it was affordable. But the other day I went in and I just couldn't click with them. Even though we both spoke Russian, the two ladies were cold, judgmental and overall uninformed. It seemed like they wanted to walk away from the job. I had to pulled them back each time and say "And I need this taken in, and this shortened" "Wait! Now the matching blazer" etc. As if they couldn't take one step back and take a look at the overall outfit and tell me what needed to be accomplished in order for the outfit to look right. It was like pulling teeth, telling them what needed fixing and where. After I put my clothes go back on and she sswas finished she added up the estimate, the amount was so colossal that the feeling was that they simply were not interested in repeat business. Giving this place no star. I came in to get a 2 inch whole on my pants and she says she'll get it done the next day. I call later that same day and ask what time should I come in to pick it up. She says " come in anytime" so I come in the next day an hour after she opens. She tells me it's not done come back in 1 hour. If she can do it in 1 hour and she had a day to do it and she didn't do it, how can I react? So I just took my pants and went somewhere else. This place is not reliable. If you have an important meeting or function and you need to get an alteration on you cloths, don't go here. She might not get it done on the day she says. Again she is not reliable AT ALL. Unfortunately the employee here was so rude, no patience and over charging incredibly high I came in to have my a dress trimmed and no questions asked she started to pin the dress when I asked her how much would it be she quoted me $150! I'm sorry but that is almost as much as the dress cost! When I told her this she was very upset and told me I wasted her time. I ended up finding a place that did a great job for half that price! I am giving this place 1 star simply because she was trying to overcharge me. When I came in, I asked for a pair of jeans to be taken in at the waist. She quoted me $50 which I thought was rather expensive but figured she was giving me the honest price. The next day, I called and pretended to be an inquiring customer and asked how much does she charge to take in a pair of jeans at the waist and she quoted me $40. I'm a big procrastinator and had a dress that needed alterations last minute... like day before I needed it last minute. I called when they opened, came in to get my dress altered, paid 20% to get it done day of, and when I came back that afternoon it fit me like a glove!! I thought I needed to hem the dress but when I tried it on there they said the length was fine (so prevented me from cutting when I didn't need to). They are so affordable (even with that 20% rush charge), definitely coming back to get all of my clothing altered here. This is my second review for this place, and like I said the first time, I'd give it six stars if I could. I'm by no means a "regular" guy when it comes to clothing. 5'7 and on the heavier side. Practically anything I buy, underwear and socks notwithstanding, has to be altered one way or another. I went to this place about a year and half ago on a recommendation from a friend to alter my new clothes before a long overseas trip and honestly will never go anywhere else as long as these ladies are in business. Tatiana is a magician! I don't know how she does what she does and don't really care either. What I do care about is that every time I put on clothes they fix for me, I look good. Not just ok, but good. Good and confident. That being said, I really don't get all the negative reviews here. Yes, Tatiana can be at times stern in her own unique Slavic way, but it's not rudness or bad customer service. First of all, you are not paying for these people to smile at you. You are paying to leave there and look like a million bucks. I have previously gone to quite a few places with outstanding customer service.... and went home with pants ending slightly above my ankles. While I do appreciate the art of late great Michael Jackson, I just don't have the physique to pull off that look. Where was I? Oh... Second: they are busy!!! You might not see a line of customers all the time, but just look at the amount of items hanging behind the counter, waiting to be picked up. It's packed. Always! I walked in to the back by mistake, the first time I was there. There is three times as much! At least. They are busy for a reason - They are AWESOME at what they do! Laura did it again - perfect fast downsizing job on a pile of summer t shirts and a dressy blouse for my last minute travels to a Gala event. I meant to write a review long time ago, but never enough time. But this express excellent work reminded me again why I keep driving to Burlingame from the north of San Francisco to Laura's alteration shop. Many ears ago I reached out for Laura's help with alteration need for my expensive evening dress on a referral of a coworker. Without much explanation from my side, she studied the situation in a fitting room and I received a perfect fit as a result. She then did an awesome job on repairing my husband's leather jacket. Skirts, blouses and trousers thereafter. I was mostly impressed by her expertise and skills after she did a perfect seamless recutting and downsizing work on my father's very expensive silk Japan made suits. He lost substantial weight and shrank a bit over the years, so these suits were just sitting in the wardrobe. After the alterations he was able to wear them at the World Gymnastics Championship Award ceremonies, presenting medals, looking elegant and stylish, as I watched him on the TV screen. My family and I have been going to Laura for alterations for more than 20 years. It all started with my prom dress in high school. Then there were the dress pants for job interviews and bridesmaid dresses for friends' weddings. Last week I needed Laura to extensively tailor my embroidered floral wedding dress, including shortening the shoulder straps, taking in the waist, hemming all five layers of the tulle skirt, and creating a bustle in the back. Unfriendly, cold demeanor. Work took longer than I'd expect for simple hemming. Surprised to find that hemming jeans costs $40, cash only which was a major pain. Didn't cut off enough for one pair of my pants, didn't feel like what she measured me for. For this level of expense, I'd expect them to measure both legs since one of my legs is a tiny bit longer than the other (a professional suit tailor once told me). But she didn't. I ordered a dress online to find that it was way too long and didn't fit me as I wished in certain areas. I called and someone was there to answer all my questions . I asked the seamstress to shorten the bottom and bring up the shoulder area which would bring up the midsection, as both were too long/big. My dress was ready earlier than expected on the pick up day. When I put it on, it fit exactly as I wanted and she did exactly what I wanted.
