Best pizza in Glendale! Already tried it a few times and the quality never changes/lacks!

I think today will be the last order from this location. We did a large pizza and wings. The pizza crust is VERY chewy and burnt, there is always so much grease on top of it and the wings are lackluster with soft & squishy skin on them.... I had to put them in the oven to crisp up the way they should be. We've started going to the location on 35th & union instead with good luck but happened to be close by this one. Well decided to give Ray's regular crust another try it's been over a year since last time ! Again one of the worst regular crust pizza we've had , even with the promise from the last review to be better by the owner. It was like eating a wet paper towel in the middle and under cooked on one side..on a positive note they still make the best Sicilian deep dish around usually are go too but tonight the wife wanted regular crust never again I'll tell you that.something has changed they been slipping they're not like they used to be! Kids wanted pizza. We were in the neighborhood around lunchtime. Ray's has good lunch specials couple of slices of pizza and a drink...not bad! We asked for pepperoni slices well the amount of grease on top of pizza made it real soggy. I'm not a fan. is a thinner pizza so with the added grease it wasn't for me. I ordered 6 wings they were ok. I mean for a quick bite it wasn't bad. We were shopping and wanted a bite to eat. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place. Probably won't come back. BUT I will say this, the girl in the front was so sweet and nicely well as the staff in the back very friendly. read more

With so many pizza places it's hard to find one that's a step up from the chain places. Rays was actually really good. The wings, crispy. The pizza, cheesy. Fried mushrooms, crunchy and not over breaded. My gripe was the steak special. I didn't like the addition of marinara to the Philly cheese steak, but the bread was crispy and the meat was sautéed nicely. The staff was nice overall, and for the price, I'd happily return. This is NOT authentic NY pizza for a few reasons: 1. The cheese is too thick 2. The crust is too thick 3. The taste is rather bland Real NY pizza has that certain something that's in the crust that really makes it memorable and the cheese is not lopped on there. I will say however I liked the cheese to sauce ratio. A lot of mediocre places don't do enough sauce but this place did better than average. About the name: the pizza box says "Famous Rays". I guess they are trying to emulate all of the Rays, Famous Rays, Famous Original Rays etc in NYC. Lame. I should have known better. Next time I come back to Glendale (here for Spring Training) I'll stick with Mexican. read more

I REALLY HOPE THIS REVIEW HELPS CLOSE THIS PLACE. 76.47 for 2 large pizzas and 20 wings. I just about shit myself when I put my eyes on the receipt. Charged 5.50 for double cut. Charged almost 29 dollars a pizza if I wouldn't of made them both a medium. JUST TO GET HOME AND THE WINGS ARE COLD AND THE PIZZA HAS A GALLON OF GREASE. I used to come here when Ralf's pizza was across the street and the competition was hot. Pizza was stellar. Now just seems like whatever the **** they can do to get it out and sold. Everyone that works the counter here seems like they could give a fuck less if you ate their. Lady with blonde hair and glasses was extremely rude every time I've come by for the last 3 months. I've really been debating on posting this review because I love this place and it was my childhood pizza place. But things have taken a swift turn and rays is not rays anymore. Over charged down graded bone sucking pizza parlor. For 78 dollars I could of filled up the tank for my truck. I'll be going to little Caesars from now on. Well we finally tried Ray's after hearing a lot about it. The girls and I stopped off on our way home. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza, with a mixture of BBQ and mild wings. The wings were really good. They were brought to us hot, wings had a crispy texture, and they both had a great taste. Now the pizza, I asked them to over cook it so the pizza would be crispy. However, I guess my overcooked is different then theirs? Pizza was good, but I could only imagine how much better it would have been if it was cooked well done? The best pizza I've had in a while. We got one with Just mushrooms and cheese. Didn't even ask for extra cheese but it was loaded. The sauce is perfect. Stands up to the mozzarella but doesn't overpower it. And it was a genuine NY style crust. Can't wait to try other stuff on their menu. I'm sure everything is delicious. read more

Is Rays pizza the best pizza around? Yes, what a ridiculous question ... but it's a question that I asked so I suppose it deserves explanation. It's a classic NY style pizza and I've had the classic cheese or pepperoni server dozen times and it refuses to let me down. I have been coming to this location for 40yrs. It was the first place we ate when we moved here from Southern California in 1980, I was 7 yrs old. Ive been to 42 countries and numerous states throughout my life and i've never experienced the same quality and care over such a period of time at numerous restaurants. The pizza taste the exact same over 40yrs... that's impressive. Thank you for being the Rays I knew as a child and never changing in that old empty shopping plaza. That neighborhood was brand new win we moved here and the grocery store everyone went to was AJ Bayless, not Fry's...keep up the good work gents, your father and grandfather's are proud!! read more

Ordered a half pepperoni and half cheese. And it was very greasy and the bottom was powdery feeling like too much flour used. The flavor is ok but can't stand the feeling of grease coating your mouth. read more

I know some of my friends like Rays and referred me but I wasn't impressed. The pizza is NY Style very thin and was very oily and I didn't like the taste. Ordered pizza delivered from this restaurant today I have been eating here for over 20 years never have I've been served a pizza with spoiled rotten mushrooms on it and the stupid manager didn't want to hear it he kept telling me their canned mushrooms that has nothing to do with them being spoiled, oh well I guess that's it for a rays!!!!won't be eating here anymore I'm and anyone else getting this crap won't either. Ugh I can't say how much I love this place. When I was a child my family and I would order from here all the time. I moved away to Atlanta for five years and I missed the pizza from here. It's just as I remembered it. But tonight I placed a pick up order and when I showed up I was greeted with a warm smile and a friendly hello. Luckily my order wasn't ready. I had messed up on what I wanted so it was confusing to them but the lady behind the counter was so amazing she was able to get what I wanted on it before they put it into the oven. But as i sit here waiting for my food I'm watching them and this is some of the best customer service I have ever seen. Take it from me I run a small restaurant myself and they beat mine out. If you haven't had their pizza you need to try it. It really is amazing but the service is even better. Keep up the great work from the kitchen staff to the front of the house staff as well. Being an ex NY'er, I can safely say I have eaten the best pizza East of Chicago. This location has friendly workers and good pizza. The sauce actually has flavor and they do not skimp on the toppings. The calzones are stuffed with cheesey goodness! I also really like how clean they keep it. Can't beat a slice of cheese pizza, six BBQ wings, and a Mountain Dew from Ray's for lunch. I'm moving and there's nothing in this area that I'll miss more than Ray's. Not bad pie but probably not up to NewYorker expectations... Ordered two slices and 20 wings (hot). One slice with mushrooms, one pepperoni. This Ray's uses canned mushrooms, which is ok, and they loaded it up for us, and the pepperoni was classic NYC style, thin crust with lots of grease. I'm giving them 4 stars but subtracting 1 star for the wings. Sorry guys. Buffalo wings NEED bleu cheese dressing and a couple sticks of celery... there is no other way. Do some research, ranch dressing doesn't cut it. period. The sauce was fine, but they needed to be a tad bit more on the 'crispy' side when cooking, other than that, they were good / ok. Would I go back? yea maybe, though there are so many more places to try... I not sure if I ever get back over on that side of town, but thank you guys... you have a good operation... clean & friendly, As a consolation they treated me to a refill on my soda. Thank you. Been my favorite for at least 2 years now. Originally from the Northeast(Philly area) and this pizza reminds me of what I used to find there. Sauce is perfect, not too sweet, not too garlicky, pizza crust is cooked correctly with a slight crunch to the crust when it's right out of the oven. The wings are delicious too, no rubbery and flabby half-cooked wings here. The sauce is exactly what I want when I want buffalo wings. Nothing fancy, just fantastic food the way I like it. read more

I was in the mood for pizza and was looking for a new place to try. My husband and I decided to try Ray's. I ordered a pizza with mushroom and my husband got the BBQ wings. We also ordered garlic bread. I didn't care for the garlic bread at all, it seemed as if it had been cooked earlier in the day and then sat there all day and it was just heated up for our order. My husband said that his BBQ wings tasted like wings from any pizza place...nothing to write home about. I actually like the pizza better cold the next day that hot when I ordered it.
