Lost keys to truck! Search and recover efforts brought frustration and "who's-fault-is-it-drama". Called Ray at 9:30am...DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS. After troubleshooting over the phone, he gave an estimate based on the information I gave him. If it wasn't accurate, the estimate may change. Some make take it as being rude, I take it as being straightforward. Fair enough. I assume we're both busy people right? We don't have time to patty cake with people's feelings right? He said he could be there in a half an hour. Cash, no checks or credit cards. He came and conquered and by 10:30 it was done!! I was so grateful. (I've depended on locksmiths before..charged me two arms and both legs!) I was going to give him a little more than what he quoted because it was less than what I've been charged before...SUBSTANTIALLY. But he wouldn't take it!!! I recently locked myself out of the house and needed a locksmith. I did a quick check on Yelp and made a few phone calls to some local locksmiths. Rays Lock and Key was the first service I called but he was already booked solid for the afternoon and wouldn't be able to make it until early in the evening. However, before letting me off the phone they provided me with a list of pertinent questions I should ask a locksmith to ensure I was hiring a reputable service. I thanked them for the info and continued my search. I called what I believed to be a "reputable" service ranked high on Yelp and they assured me they would be there within the hour. About an hour and half later I received a phone call from the locksmith saying he had to cancel because his car broke down. Really, your car broke down? No work van/truck? To me this sounded a little less professional than what I was led to believe. So I get back on the phone with Rays Lock and Key service. Rays fortunately had a late cancellation and was in the process of calling me back to check on my status. Pretty cool. Obviously I hired Rays and they were out to my house within 40 mins. After about 5 mins working my "pick proof" lock, voila, they were in. I was impressed with their professionalism and customer service so I tried to tip them an extra $20 but they politely refused. He came on time and was done in 40 minutes. He was also very helpful - gave us tips on how to lubricate the locks for better use/less wear and tear. Bent my auto key and went to 5 other places before Rays to go and get my key cut. However, this was the only place that could do it. Although their office area does take you back a little, it doesn't compromise their professional, kind and great service. When I went to the other locksmiths they just took a look at my key and refused to cut it. But at Rays they took the time to check out my key and even walked to my car in the pouring rain to check that it still worked in the door and my ignition. Superior service! I had a duplicate key made for my front door. When I arrived home to check to see if the new key worked, the key got stuck in the lock. I thumbed through the yellow paged for a locksmith. I called two others who said they did not service my area. Then, I called Ray's Lock and Key, and he asked very specific questions to diagnose the problem. He said he could be at my house in 15 minutes to fix it. I had to run out to an ATM to get cash to pay him, and by the time I returned home less than 15 minutes after our phone conversation, Ray was at my door and had the key removed. Excellent competent service such as this is to be commended. I will lock in Ray's number just in case I should ever need his services again in the future. Now, let's see how the people who made the faulty key handle this when I return with the bad key and locksmith bill tomorrow. read more

I almost gave one stars because of the rude customer service I received, but to be fair, he was upset for a reason. My roadside assistance set up his company the night before to take my case. When a company takes a case, they are supposed to send their info the person letting them know the time they would arrive. When I didn't receive a call the next day, I called my roadside assistance to let them know I didn't know who was coming. They looked up my case and realized they also gave him the wrong info that my keys were locked in a trunk when actually the key was lost in the ocean (it was not a good day for my friends visiting the island borrowing our car). I called him directly and asked him if he knew my case. He wasn't polite even in greeting me over the phone. I explained my situation. He said he wasn't given the right information and was mad he was called out because he lost business taking my job instead of others and possibly wouldn't be able to help me anyway. He was clear that it was my roadside assistance that was causing the problem, but he went on and on and on explaining that I wasn't worth helping. He literally couldn't stop complaining and I had to rush him off the phone explaining I needed to get help not hear him talk to me this way . I think he had a reason to be upset. But to talk to me the customer that way was absolutely rude and un-caring given the circumstance. My friends had none of their belongings (like wallets and cellphones) and their vacation was pretty much ruined. Show some aloha! He was direct in saying the money wasn't worth it to him. Well, perhaps just being a decent person helping others is worth it sometimes. I was able to find another amazing locksmith who was caring, compassionate, communicated much better about his arrival time, and put in the elbow grease. The code on the computer to make the key was wrong but the actual code was behind a lock in the car (which locksmiths know). So basically an extra half an hour of labor is what it would have taken and this business could have had our business. read more
