Finally was able to check this place out this morning. They sell tees and tanks with witty sayings on them, along with many shirts about the Midwest. There are other little goodies such as books, dainty jewelry, magnets, stick-on tattoos, coasters, post cards, etc. There is also a kids section with cute bibs and shirts for toddlers/babies. Most of the tees are $21 each. I couldn't leave without buying a shirt! This place is pretty chill. It's not your typical store at the mall where you're greeted when you walk in, but more so you look around at your own pace and then walk up to the counter when you're ready to check out. From what my boyfriend noticed, Raygun will be moving to a new location (supposedly a bigger location) a block or two down from their location now. I look forward to seeing the new place when they move! This is a gem in Des Moines and a perfect place to go to buy gifts for someone from the Midwest or even visiting the Midwest. read more

I'm really happy Des Moines has a local apparel store like this. Before visiting Raygun I thought it was just a bunch of novelty T-shirts and joke stuff. After visiting I realized there's some nice brands there also and some good cut-n-sew apparel. Cheap Mondays and other good brands is sold there and priced really well. The T-shirts are actually good and there's stuff on sale all the time for cheap. Every time I'm in east village I take the time to visit and check out their new good. Oh my WORD I freaking love raygun!! I grew up in Iowa and now live on the east coast, but like most Iowans I think it is the greatest state and always jump at the opportunity to proclaim my love for it - raygun totally helps me do this, sometimes in a sincere and sometimes in a more salty and self-aware (but not TOO salty, as Iowans can't help but be nice deep down) way. I've got tons of coasters, pint glasses, postcards, magnets, koozies, a mug, a keychain, and of course tees and tanks - no complaints at all about quality, and major thumbs up to the clever and/or sweet designs. Always good for a laugh, always good for easing my homesickness. It's like being part of an awesome, goodnatured inside joke that makes me proud of my roots. And beyond the Iowa/ Midwest merch, I'm a huge fan of the bro tanks (can't even count all the compliments I've gotten on my "suns out guns out" tank). This place has brains, snark, and a big heart. Yes. Raygun is great. What's even better is that if you have a customer service issue, they make it right. I love their merch, and I've custom ordered several times. I will say the custom orders have never gone smoothly, but it's forgiveable because I've given pretty tight timelines. read more

I might be Raygun's most loyal customer. I probably own 15 of their wittiest shirts, and it is my go-to store when I'm looking for a present for either a hard to buy for person or a baby shower ("Made in Iowa." Funny.). I even have a shirt from when they were called Smash instead of Raygun (sorry you almost got sued. again.). Anyway, if you're from Iowa, you need to stop in and purchase a meaningful shirt. If you're visiting Iowa from anywhere else, you need to stop in and purchase a meaningful shirt. You can spend quite a bit of time wandering around in here looking for the perfect shirt. Beyond t-shirts,You will find tanks, mugs, coasters, koozies, kids toys, kids clothing, socks, and other miscellaneous items. Now in the East Village attached to Thelma's and Mars Cafe (see my Mars review), Iowa City, and Kansas City, which I'm a little bitter about. I thought we had something special, Raygun. read more
