When I walked in, they showed me where to get the pottery, how to use the glaze paint, and an instruction card with how to paint it! I chose a mug, and painted potted plants all along the bottom. I may not be a great or even good artist, but it was nice to try something new! You pay for the time and the piece, so prices will vary and they are labeled under the pottery pieces. I painted a regular mug, and for spending an hour and half, I only paid less than $30. Highly recommend!

The store is packed with many options and is usually quite busy with shoppers looking for the perfect item to take home with them. Sometimes that can make it hard to get around, but it's always nice to see people drawn to the store and community. It has felt like there have been more manufactured or mass-produced items in the store the last few times I've stopped (versus when they first opened). It's also a little high-priced for me. I looked recently and was surprised to see a Christmas pillow priced at nearly $70, and artwork from a local artisan priced nearly 3 times more than I can buy directly from him at shows. Overall, I love the inspiration that the store provides - I always leave with fun ideas of items I might want to create for my own home.

Very few places have office furniture in Des Moines, NONE have the selection of JG's. They have both new and used and I purchased a little bit of both. They have fake plants, real plants, art, desks, shelving, chairs and they even had some really cool lockers. Jake stayed after close helping us get measurements (even though he knew we were not buying anything that night) and then went out of his way to make sure I had a quote that night so I could decide on what I wanted. He was very accommodating and even put up with my back and forth on a couple items. He made sure it was delivered quickly so my office was up and running and then met me Saturday (they're closed Saturdays) when I decided I wanted an office chair. I can't say enough good things about this company. Iowa owned and operated (as in the family actually works there)! They even gave my daughter an arrow head before we left which absolutely made her day. Support local, support good people, and get yourself a heck of a deal!
