Reservations are a must and I would suggest reservations inside because outside is was too hot and the view of a parking lot does not do the food or restaurant justice. What we ordered! Cocktail: Raya Mai Tai offered a unique take on a Mai Tai. The mint and coconut lead the parade of flavors for this interesting take on a classic cocktail. Short rib nachos- packed with flavor! Every nacho was perfectly stacked with just the right amount of ingredients wanting you to keep coming back for more! Plantain chorizo wonton - perfection! Not much more to say about this appetizer. Duck Pegao Fried Rice - duck confit, fried rice and sweet plantains were the outstanding trifecta of savory, salty and sweet flavors in every bite! The texture of the fried price and tender duck confit were a foodies delight. Mongolian Wagyu Brisket - tender no knife needed, melted in your mouth! The brisket had just the right amount of soy glaze, and was served with a bowl of fried white rice, kimchi, and sliced avocado. Surprise bonus compliments of the restaurant: Onion soup - served in a tiny bowl a little larger than a shot glass was a great way to get our taste buds ready for the main entrees. The ambiance of this place was wonderful -- we sat outside and were right by the water. For drinks we ordered the miso and strawberry lemongrass cocktails. We were given a sample of their mushroom soup for free. We ordered the green tea salmon and honey garlic chicharrón le mein, both were amazing but portions were smaller than expected -- especially considering the price. OUT OUT OUT STANDING! We brought our own wines, courtesy of a fabulous local sommalier and his lovely partner in crime. The lobster spring rolls were delightfully crispy and not greasy, perfect to start with a yeasty rose cava. And that crispy rice with tuna sashimi. Elegantly presented. The sea bass was magic, served with crispy brussel sprouts. Our diners feasted on the duck fried rice and chorizo dumplings - we all shared and passed around the delicate and satisfying offerings. A deeply chocolate cake and hazelnut ice cream rounded the meal before a trip over to the roof top - call in advance or suffer rejection. I'm just here to complain... like for-real. The lobster roll was awkward. It's basically lobster and coconut meat wrapped in egg roll wrap. Didn't really have a taste to it. The guava dipping sauce was overly too sweet. Tuna app- having raw tuna on a warm yuca "toast". Not a very good combo. I had the cod and it was horrible that it made me cry. Sever didn't even care to investigate. Not my cup of tea. COD texture was rubbish. Husband had the duck dish. Too much rice and barely any duck. At least he ate his food. read more

Book a reservation and RUN to this restaurant if you are in Puerto Rico! It is simply splendid! I was encouraged to book a reservation and was glad I did. It was nice to know that I was going to be seated ahead of time so I was able wear bug spray. I was seated on the outdoor patio just a street and sidewalk away from the lagoon and it was just right! The music - The view of old San Juan reflecting on the lagoon - the quiet voices of other tables....ALL SO SOOTHING. I had the sea bass and it was oh so yummy! And the HUGE bowl of roasted veggies were great! Please come here and enjoy a quiet, peaceful dinner on the water. My favorite part is that no one rushed you through the experience. Wow! I came here for my birthday and it was amazing. The food is asian with a Caribbean twist. The servers were very attentive, the restaurant felt sexy, and the food was delicious from beginning to end. We ordered the edamame with a truffle sauce, tuna tartare, rock shrimp boa buns, plantains stuffed with chorizo, tuna poke bowl, and filet mignon with mushrooms dumplings. We finished the meal off with the best dessert I've had in a long time. It was some sort of cake topped with horchata ice cream. Raya was for sure one of the food highlights of our trip! The ambiance and decor were super sleek and gave off 20's vibes (read: gold chopsticks and utensils), setting the stage for some delicious food. Service was also very quick and attentive - the servers spaced out all of our dishes perfectly, too! I had a couple of their Green Tea Cocktails - would recommend this one for any gin cocktail and/or green tea lover! For food, we got the following: Kani Crab Rolls - super tasty, and great mix of flavors and textures between the crab and the crispy spring roll! Great start to the meal. Yuca Tuna Nigiri - you can't go wrong with some seared tuna - again, a great mix of textures between the crispy yuca base and the tuna itself. Jerk Rock Shrimp Bao - I'm partial to a bao, especially a shrimp bao! A close tie, but this could have been my favorite dish of the night. The shrimp was some of the juiciest and tenderest shrimp I've ever had - in a bao or not! Sea Scallops Ajonjoli - got this as my entree, and it was a solid dish! I was a bit full by this point of the meal, but I'm a sucker for a good scallop dish! The yuca bunuelos also added some additional character to the dish (and were a delicious addition)! Donuts - Great conclusion to the meal, and possibly best described as what a Ferrero Rocher donut hole would be like! Enjoyed the ice cream accompaniment as well. read more

I enjoyed my experience at Raya. It's upper mid scale food (about $35ish per person for entree) and it's solid Asian fusion. My favorite was the waygu beef nachos; they were super well balanced and had a good amount of acid. The wonton chip was extremely flavorful as well. I ate the seabass- wish it had a bit more miso but overall, it was well done. Brussel sprouts were great (wish there was a bit more char). I also enjoyed the chicken lo mein; this dish ate pretty heavy and could have been a bit more balanced. That said, it was comfort food. All in all, I had a good experience at Raya. Expect to pay about $60 per person for drinks+ meal. Be sure to also grab a reservation. read more

Asian fusion spot right on the water! They have a very aesthetic interior decor and also some nice patio seating by the water. I'm not very easily impressed by Asian fusion food (since I am Asian), but this place had some unique and delicious fusion dishes. They have a fun cocktail menu - it recommend the green tea cocktail if you are a fan of matcha. They also brought us some complimentary soup which tasted like cream of mushroom yum. The appetizers I recommend are the nachos de costilla (the most artistically presented and delicious nachos I have ever had, fried chip topped with the most tender wagyu ribs) and the ahi tuna (fresh seared tuna topped with a wasabi mayo that looked like a tiny egg). For the entrees, duck pegao fried rice is a must! I don't know how they made the rice but it's the crispy rice that you scrape off the bottom of a rice cooker (the best part!). Duck is good too and huge portion. The Oxtail dumplings were also a fun combination of flavors both sweet and savory. Smaller portion but I was stuffed at the end of the meal since we had so many appetizers! The service was slow as it was a busy night but they apologized and brought us a free round of drinks. The food and drinks are unreal. The oxtail dumplings, tuna poke, gin and tonic, Kawai, and donuts were all 10/10. It is very infrequent that a restaurant can do it all, as Raya has. Additionally, the hosts and waitstaff are exceptionally kind and accommodating. The food comes out in a timely manner. I could not give a higher recommendation to a restaurant. read more

Very strong yet yummy drinks, annoying music (douche/club mix) and ok food. 0 stars for Puerto Rico's fascination with imitation crab; the rolls could use some real crab or any other wild caught sea critter. The sea bass was a bit dry with little miso flavor and the brussel sprouts are not a good pair at all. Overall this spot was a bit underwhelming and unwelcoming with attitude from hostesses. The identical location up the block had a better feel to it (like a foresty nymph vibe:) so I recommend that one for drinks only (did not dine there). Raya is a beautiful decorated restaurant on the first floor of the O:LV hotel offering a mixture of Asian and Caribbean cuisine. The food was delicious but keep in mind that majority of the portions are fairly small. The staff is very attentive and both the food and restaurant decor is very aesthetically pleasing. It's a bit pricey but I believe the price fits the the location and experience. I would recommend the Jerk Rock Shrimp Bao, Oxtail Dumplings and the churros. read more

RICISIMO!! DELICIOSO!! Incredible service and delicious fares ! I ate here tonight and was completely blown away by the hospitality, the attention to detail, and the impeccable teamwork of the staff here at Raya. To start, I was greeted by the manager, Aramis, who started with a smile and checked in on me all night. As a former server in a fine dining establishment, I was utterly impressed by the manager's hands on approach, clearing tables, taking orders, running food, and seating tables. Without compromising attention to detail, Aramis also provided fantastic recommendations to ensure that I left the restaurant completely satisfied. The manager, Aramis, was clearly an effective leader and it showed in the team dynamic throughout the meal. Various severs tended to my needs with one providing drink and appetizers to another repeatedly ensuring I thoroughly enjoyed every meal. Truly a fantastic team that works excellently well together! It certainly didn't hurt that everyone here was beautiful to look at and exceptionally professional with class and personality. I started the meal with a warm plantain soup that served as an amuse bouche from the kitchen. I the. Enjoyed a twist on a classic mezcal cocktail suggested by the manager that was out of this world! Next, I enjoyed the Kani crab rolls and the yuca tuna Nigiri. Both were mouth watering good and came out of the kitchen quickly. That being said, I did not feel rushed at any point (which is a special treat considering that I was a solo diner on this night). Furthermore, it was no bother at all for their servers to save some of my various dishes to bring home to my partner later that night. For my entree i had the duck pegao which was exceptionally well executed! The flavors did not personally agree with me but when the servers noticed they went out of their way to ensure that I left the restaurant full and satisfied. The restaurant has a fantastic wine list, unique and delicious cocktail menu, and a one of a kind dinner menu. But all in all what sets this place a part is the attention to detail and the fantastic team dynamic and affable personalities that fill its walls! Truly a must see!! Heard about this new restaurant from our driver mid-week and booked a Friday night reservation through the OpenTable app. Wasn't sure what to expect as there are not a lot of images or reviews available on the O:LV website, OpenTable, RAYA Facebook or RAYA yelp! page. We were really excited for date night on our last night of our week long business trip. I received a call around 10:45am to confirm my reservation - per usual with most restaurants on OpenTable. We arrived to RAYA promptly at 6pm and the host greeted us and knew my name for our reservation. Upon arrival there were 2 tables seated and nobody sitting at the bar. The decor was chic but there was no music playing at all to set the mood. The host immediately said "I'm really sorry but we have a dress code here and there are no shorts permitted. I hope you're not far from where you came from." Whereas he did apologize I find it interesting there is no strict dress code listed anywhere aside from "Business Casual" on OpenTable. My boyfriend had nice shorts from Bonobos, a nice polo, & Ugg men's shoes on, its Puerto Rico in Spring people... The phone call at 10:40am to confirm my reservation would have been a perfect opportunity to mention a dress code as well. Also the one and only yelp! review (5 stars at that) for RAYA is from the manager of the restaurant Luis M.!! That's not a true review from a guest of the restaurant but rather managements perspective. (See photo posted) All is well though as we found ourselves at the sister hotel rooftop bar O:live. If you want an even more dreamy vibe, great cocktails, standout service I would recommend going to O:live rooftop for a drink at sunset and grabbing a quick taxi afterwards over to Casita Miramar for dinner! Just a suggestion if you have other restaurants or bars within your umbrella management group that don't have dress code you should recommend one of those or somewhere else nearby for the guests you turn away to go to. They didn't offer us a seat at the bar or anything to compensate for the unreasonable wait time. Not worth the price since service is nowhere near fine dining. On Wednesday, Nov 27, we got turned away by a very rude manager at Raya.  He would not allow me into the dining room because I was wearing shorts. He said three times that the dress code is on the web site (as if I was supposed to know). He said that this was a fine dining restaurant so shorts were not allowed. I said that's fine, but that wasn't on the OpenTable confirmation and he didn't tell me anything on the confirmation call. He replied that he didn't know I was going to wear shorts but that in the future he would tell guests from the United States that they should not wear shorts to a fine dining restaurant. I said that we had just dined at Mario Pagan the night before and Marmalade on Monday, but they had no problem with my shorts. We actually had great experiences at both these other fine dining restaurants. We'd been looking forward to Raya, expecting a great experience, but instead we were met an extremely rude, arrogant, and insulting manager who made it clear that people from the United States do not know how to dress for a fine dining restaurant or read a web site. My wife said that this broke our streak of consistently kind and friendly people we had been meeting here. Everyone has been so nice and so accommodating throughout our trip. Oh how we tried to like this place!! I am giving 2 stars because ambiance and service are nice. But the food is a major disappointment! We stayed in the hotel in May and had dinner at Raya. Everything was VERY salty. The entire hotel, restaurant and rooftop are so beautiful. We would just love to enjoy the facilities every week but the food is just so disappointing. Tonight we tried the restaurant again for dinner. I specifically requested low salt because everything was so salty last time. The lobster lollipops appetizer was good but for 22$ I'd expect to feel/ taste/ see the lobster. You get 4 fried doughy creamy "croquetas" type bites. My husband's entree (Korean fried chicken) arrived first. He found it to be too salty. 15 minutes later my tuna poke entree was still not there. I asked for it and it was brought over very quickly - but I am assuming it was meant for another table - and ... it was... you guessed it, just too salty. Such a shame. We are NOT on some low sodium diet. On the contrary, we like salt a lot when used appropriately. I actually have a collection of 30 gourmet salts in my house and I enjoy using them all - as an add on , not the main ingredient. If a restaurant has good, fresh ingredients it does not need to drown them in salt, oil or sugar. I really hope the food gets better and some other dishes are added to the menu. We had an amazing experience! When we arrived the manager was there to great us warnly and take us to our table. The wine list is extensive and the creativity of the tapa themed plates is welcomed. The architecture is stunning(1920's Gastbyesque) and the staff extremely attentive. If you go, don't forget to go up to the rooftop for a drink. Beautiful views and layout.
