In name perhaps but certainly not in taste. Although the service was friendly and fast, I think the food didn't quite meet our expectations. I ordered the chicken satay, roti Canai, and Penang Har Mee. The chicken satay was covered with a peanut sauce that was like peanut butter! And the Penang prawn Mee was no where like anything from Penang. Plus the roti was of the frozen type. I don't think we will be coming back to this one. Although the store itself was ok, with an unassuming ambiance. Perhaps it was no wonder that it was pretty much empty at dinner time with just one other table occupied. With the amount of Malaysian food choices in the area, I am not sure how long this place will last...

Too deep? Sorry... Penang Cuisine is a super casual, super family run Malaysian kind of a place. Come around 3pm and you'll see the kid doing her homework with the mother and the grandmother helping. Adorable. The sign on the door says there is a gap between 2.30pm and 5.30pm when lunch finishes and dinner starts but we arrived at 3 and they still served us. We were the only people in there. I got Beef Rendang $17 and Billy got Laksa $12. The Rendang was ok. It didn't have strong flavours but I did have a cold which makes me realise now I'm a pretty bad person to be reviewing food... I tried the Laksa "for scientific purposes". All I can say is "OH MY GOD!! Where have you been all my life?? Who knew Epping could do such good Laksa?? Epping?? It's the burbs, the serious burbs. How has this deliciousness been in my backyard all this time and I didn't know??" So yeah, the Laksa is good. It has fish cakes in it. The only thing that could earn this place that final star is the roti. Frozen roti. Also makes you nostalgic for those times your mum was making quiche and you snuck some raw pampers pastry and felt sick but didn't want to say why. What? You didn't do that? Oh,ok. Fresh roti would be the ultimate.

When I walked into Pho Sam and I was hit with a palpable wave of indifference, I knew it was winner winner crispy skin chicken with tomato rice dinner. Which was delicious. By the way. Of course to accurately judge a Vietnamese restaurant I had to try the raw beef pho. It was very good. They must have read previous reviews because they now give you all the trimmings as standard. Well most of the trimmings. Owing to my gingerness I had to request chilli. Bill got salty fish and chicken rice (oh so nice) and a chicken laksa (ok but there's better nearby). Pho Sam is a pretty casual affair. You're there for the food not the atmosphere. Get in, eat, get out, repeat. We did go back again tonight for takeaway. We got more of the same plus Sichuan Beef. My brother reckons that wasn't very good. He's a guts and he didn't finish it. The lemon chilli chicken wings are not bad. Verdict: delicious Vietnamese but stick to the Vietnamese options on the menu.

Crispy skin chicken with tomato rice, pork chop with rice noodles and raw beef pho are on high rotation for many of my friends. Or really, tomato rice with anything. Servings are bigger than your face with some like the Nasi Goreng just seem endless. Just like any good Asian restaurant, the service is brusque but efficient. The owner is an unsmiling lady with a fierce bob. She may seem scary at first but deep down she's a real softie, known to slide a free plate of spring rolls or a glass of red bean ice onto the tables of her regulars. Because in the end, it's all about good food at good prices.

Instead, a huge array of fresh sandwiches, quiches and salads lets you know you've at a place that loves to keep things fresh. Unfortunately, I am not here for food. It is coffee that I crave. Seems they are using Adore Estate coffee which I recall having tried at the Aroma coffee festival not too long ago. When the coffee came, the service was perfect. Came with a glass of water, which I really appreciate, and a question if I would like more milk. Here is where it falls down. Given the coffee already looks like a piccolo latte I refuse the kind offer. It is really sad there is so much milk as the guy making it had a great crema going, and the coffee is not bitter at all. As it seems with many cafes, this place would be great for people who drink caps and lattes. Just not great for me. It is interesting to compare the clientele between here and Pablo & Rusty's ( http://frid.co/nYKfxS ) It seems there are more SME business owners here and older couples. Where as a little closer to the station P&R's seem to get a lot more students, hipsters, and young mums. What a difference a couple of hundred meters makes. I don't know...but these restaurants really need to step up their game! Why do you have to go all the way out to Epping to get a legitimate bowl of sundubu? Who knows...but it's a travesty. I'm not even a big sundubu fan but the stuff here is pretty damn good. Came with a group of people and I ordered the pork sundubu with special rice for around $19. Others ordered the kimchee sundubu and bulgogi sundubu. It was pretty good and super filling. I was going to order the kalbi+sundubu combo but unfortunately you can't choose the type of sundubu with that combo, default is mushroom. We also ordered seafood pancake and that was plenty of food for everyone. Only gripe here is it's out of the way and the sundubu can take some time to come, but it's well worth the wait.

Used to be much better, but still worth going to. You definitely go here for the soft tofu stew…read moreover anything else, as the name suggests. I always get the al tang (fish roe) tofu stew with special rice because nothing else beats this. Must get it with the special rice, I feel like my colds always go away after having this warm meal. Recently tried the vegetable tofu stew and you could taste the difference in soup depth and flavour, but nonetheless enjoyable. Comfort food when it's cold or you have a cold, but I feel like the portions have shrunk somewhat. And if you think about it, it's actually not that cheap.
