Sophisticated menu and presentation. More waiters than guests. Big open grill in eating area. Five or six course set menu and optional wine pairing Quite expensive. Food a bit exotic for my taste but really first class. Apparently booked 4 months in advance. We got a last minute cancellation-is this standard? Some street parking and no outdoor seating

A unique experience as the Chef's Table: BBQ featured. The food has all been touched bite fire or smoke giving it a unique taste. I'm more of a big bold flavor person but I can appreciate the subtlety of the food expertly prepared. Shared the 250 day dry aged Wagyu ribeye. It is too funky for me but again I'm glad to have experienced it. Firedoor is a destination experience but unless you really enjoy the food which I moderately did, it may be more of a one and done experience.

Wow This dinner was amazing. All is done with smoke and no mirrors. We had the five purse meal with each item better then the next I will refer you to the menu and my photos for more info or check out u tube You will not go wrong here.

Service was excellent, good dishes tasted great, especially the steak and the fresh bread was excellent as well. The fired oysters was an interesting take which I did think tasted good. It's a high end restaurant, many small dishes so don't expect to leave feeling full. The drinks could have been mixed better.

Everything we had was amazing, and service was exceptional! If we come back to Sydney, I'm definitely coming here again.

Fantastic dining experience at Firedoor. Everything was cooked over the roaring fire in the open kitchen style. If you're seated at the chef's table, you'll definitely feel some of that heat. Everything tasted great including the drinks.

A special night out. Everything about Firedoor is special. We had been trying to get a reservation here for months and finally got lucky as they are limited and spots go very quickly. From the moment you walk in the you can smell the wood fire and the excitement of being here and knowing that your in for a feast. The staff are great and explain everything to you from how the menu work to the different drinks and cocktails. We sat at the edge of the kitchen and were able to watch the chef's work their magic. The kitchen is fast and dynamic the way they constructed our meals. They explain the different ingredients and they use a lot of local and natural ingredients. The food was amazing and we had about eight or nine courses by the time we had finished. Having seen videos and a documentary about Firedoor make you realize the extent of the care and enjoyment they put into creating your dishes. We live every dish and especially the 200 day dry aged rib eye steak. It was amazing and melted in your mouth and I just wanted to pick up the bone and gnaw on it like a dog it was so good. But didn't obviously One of the best experiences and meals we've ever had and we look forward to coming back here and highly recommend it and Lenox and his team are amazing at what they do.

We had high expectations but in the end, this was a good, average experience. The biggest problem was the dry aged Rib eye, while absolutely amazing, came last since it was an add on. Combine this with the a few carb heavy dishes or ones with larger than expected portions, and we ended up too full to really enjoy the steak. The steak is clearly the highlight and I wish the menu was portioned better to cater to it. The rest of the dishes were good, with any fire infused vegetables having a nice flavor, and the kangaroo was well cooked and not too gamey. The crackling on the pork was top notch. Dishes like the potatoes were just fillers and should have been skipped. The coral trout was also bland. Overall, the cooking by fire concept has potential but it's not executed well here.

Amazing service, food is fantastic and the team there so knowledgeable. Amazing wine to match the super fresh and delicious menu. Worth the wait to have this opportunity. Great value and can't compliment the food or service and ambience enough.

Fantastic, kept getting better with each dish. I ate solo but they were able to halve almost all the dishes so I was able to try 4 things. I started with Marron, which I never had before. Marron is a very large crayfish and they show it to you live before preparing it. Was surprised how meaty it was and easy to eat. I then went on to Mahi, which was great. A nice size piece of fish, perfectly prepared with a nice finish on the skin (and I usually avoid fish skin). The tomato, ricotta and grilled peach was good but not as good as the other dishes, the peach did not have the exciting flavor I expected. Finally, the steak was out of this world. It was very plainly described in the menu and I almost avoided it but was in a beef mood. It turned into one of the best steaks I ever had. Tender, incredible flavor. I can't get it out of my head. I sat by the woodfire, which while interesting, gets very hot over an evening. The meal was great and the steak unforgettable.

Inside wasn't bad, the table was big and the chairs comfortable. We were waited on immediately. Servers fly around like dancers, it's actually pretty impressive. Our food arrived in no time. My wife had fish and chips and I had lamb and rosemary pie. She enjoyed her meal. Mine was different than I've had before. It was still ok but I wouldn't order it again. Others would probably like it, it just wasn't for me. We didn't have any dessert but as you walk in the door they have some wonderful looking pies and cakes. Do yourself a favor and save room for one of those. I messed up and didn't try something. This is actually a really cool restaurant that I would like to try again. I wouldn't let one dish that didn't hit my taste buds keep me away.

I had a couple of goals when visiting Australia... and one of them was to try kangaroo. The Rocks Cafe delivers with their Kangaroo Filet! And you can get it gluten-free! The sauce is a bit rich for me, but you can brush some of the sauce off with your fork. If kangaroo is not your thing, then there are plenty of other options on the menu... and the crowd around us all looked pleased with their orders. After you are done with your meal, you just go to the front/reception area and pay your bill. Easy peasy! Overall rating: ****FOUR STARS**** Gluten-free rating: ****FOUR STARS****

Our hotel's concierge suggested we look into breakfast eateries or a bakery at nearby Barangaroo wharf and pointed us two blocks down on Sussex Street, where we stumbled upon Wild Sage. Walking up to their patio dining area, we were greeted by a friendly young man who offered us a choice between patio and indoor seating and provided menus. We chose to dine outdoors to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather and cool yet comfortable temperature. After being seated, the young man, brought us glasses of chilled water while we waited for the server to take our morning beverage and breakfast orders. Our cheery server, Marissa, came by shortly after delivering another table's order and we were ready to order right away. FOOD & BEVERAGE: -Sticky Chai Tea: I requested the chai tea as its blend of natural spices with soy milk appealed to me on this slightly chilly morning. As I poured the steamy steeping hot chai tea through the strainer into the glass, its full aromas wafted towards me as I "aerated" or pulled the tea. $8.50 AUD -Proscuitto Toastie: Triple cheese (Gruyere, mozzarella, & scamorza), sliced proscuitto, truffle bechamel, & pickles on soy linseedsourdough. Although we're slightly lactose-intolerant, my husband decided to order this "upscale" ham and cheese sandwich. It was so rich in flavors and textures that he could only eat half the portion even though he was tempted to finish both sandwich halves. Notably, the toasted sourdough's crisp, crunchy, exterior and warm chewy interior tasted of caramelization and nuttiness. Its tangy sourness offered a savory balance to the creamy, slightly nutty and sweet scamorza and mozzarella cheeses. The creamy cheeses balanced the savory saltiness from the proscuitto and Gruyere. $24 AUD -Truffle Mushroom Toast: I selected this open faced toasted sourdough sandwich which was generously topped with roasted mixed mushrooms, confit garlic and truffle butter, thyme, goat cheese, crispy leeks, and poached eggs. The roasted mixed mushrooms flavors were enhanced "just right" with the truffle butter without being overpowered. This vegetarian sandwich was protein-packed, filling, and very flavorful. $26 AUD We took our time over breakfast while discussing our Sydney exploration plans at this clean, bright, and friendly cafe. It's too bad we didn't have more time in Sydney to return for more but, isn't that the dilemma while traveling? "Too many restaurants, too little time."

This was the most highly rated restaurant in Surry Hills, and it exceeded all expectations. I cannot say enough great things about the duck slow cooked in plum sauce. We enjoyed a handful of their appetizers (oyster shooters, mini pancakes with crème fresh, etc), all of which were incredible. Very grateful to our waiter for being so helpful with menu suggestions and accommodating one of the guests with a more complicated food palette.
