There's seating outside, which is super nice. When we went at night, there was also live music with a guitarist, and we got very good service. Everyone was very nice and friendly, and food was good. We came during restaurant week, so we got to try both the wurst platter and the $20 restaurant week deal. For sides and appetizers, we tried butter pretzel, potato cakes, spatzle and cheese, German slaw, German fries, and roasted broccoli. I personally wouldn't pay $10 for the pretzel, but it was surprisingly not salty and very good. I liked the potato cakes the most, and broccoli had a very sweet refreshing taste to it. The other sides were good too, but those were my favorite. As for the main course, I had pork schnitzel and the wurst platter. I think the wurst platter was worth the deal, and I liked the bratwurst the most. Pork schnitzel was also a thick crispy piece, but I might try a special one with sauce over it next time. Overall I would recommend! Prices are okay for what you get, and the vibe is excellent. read more

Cool setting in the basement of a residence. Has a goods vibe with great food at reasonable prices. Portions are generous.

Pork schnitzel and Chicken Cordon Bleu were on point! Good service too! Only complaint is it was a bit noisy when crowded.

wow. Ive never written a restaurant review, but this place deserves one. I dined here essentially on accident as the restaurant my friend and I picked first, ended up being closed for a water main break when we arrived. So we typed into an internet search for restaurants nearby, and came up with this gem of a restaurant that I'd never heard of before (I've lived not too far away for 20 years) . 5 stars for everything. The place is adorable, quaint and clean. Service was great. And the food was fantastic. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and i was pleasantly surprised by the unique flavors (German food to me is typically bland). 5 stars all around. read more

Super cute place! My friends and I went on a Friday night and they had live music. The location is kind of obscure--my Waze GPS took me around in a circle, so use Google Maps instead. Parking is very limited. I also recommend making a reservation because there isn't much seating. My friends and I made a reservation and we still weren't seated for a little over 10 minutes. The waiter was definitely overwhelmed with the tables; we had to wait awhile for him to come around and take our orders. We wanted to order dessert but ended up just getting the check. On to the food! The potato cakes were delicious! You can taste the right amount of spud, and the crispiness of the exterior was perfect. The pork schnitzel was also delicious (basically the German version of donkatsu lol). The wursts on the combo platter all had their own unique flavor, but they're very salty. My friend could feel his blood pressure rising from all of the sodium. Still worth it to check out! Maybe just don't eat five wursts at the same time lol. read more

Loved the schnitzel. Cool bar area and friendly staff. If you are looking for German food this is your stop

I visited on a business trip. My colleagues and I enjoyed a good German meal followed up with bread pudding. The bread pudding was good enough that I returned the next day. I had a piece wrapped, buried it my carry-on, and flew it back to Dallas to share with my wife. read more

Wow. We stopped in for lunch (at peak lunchtime). Despite most of the tables being empty inside we were asked to wait. We waited about 20 minutes - none of the other tables left while we waited but we figured it was just a case of being short-staffed. Several others arrived after us and were also frustrated with the wait. I was surprised by the very reasonable prices. The pretzel was delicious as was my husband platter and my currywurst. I was a little disappointed that they were sold out of sauerkraut and cabbage so early during lunch. Very extensive drink menu which is definitely a huge plus. Overall would come back and make reservations in the future. read more

We now have a local German restaurant. Looks like you can sit indoors or outdoors. There's a cute little outdoor building groups can sit in. We chose to eat inside. Everything's a la carte, but so delicious. Try the bratwurst and pork schnitzel. There's even options for vegetarians like eggplant schnitzel. We also got two beers. Great experience! read more

Cute establishment in the basement part of a historical home. Wasn't sure we were jn the right area but nice parking lot either a coffee place upstairs. Four cocktails options and great assortment of beers - we are craft beer drinkers but I hate IPAs. Beau got the Divine beer which is an IPA with an interesting play on the hops that changes like magic and makes you want another sip. The pork snitzel we got as a sandwich and it was crispy and delicious with the house Rk sauce that is a curry base. Definitely recommend it. Also got the pretzel which comes in a fun funky non traditional shape. It's warm and fluffy chewy paired with a cheese with a light kick of horseradish. Prices were a welcome change coming from MoCo burbs. Staff was one man and he was super nice and answered questions. Small menu with reopening but tasty and nice ambience. read more

We had a large group of family (about 20) in town for a wedding and got together here the evening before the event for dinner. Made a reservation a couple weeks in advance. Everyone in our group was very pleased. We were seated outside and able to rearrange a couple of tables so that we could all sit together. Food and drink were great, even featured a few vegan options which we appreciated. I sampled the Weisswurst and Brauernwurst which were both excellent. Service also very good. There was live music outside which added to the atmosphere. All in all a very good experience and would recommend. read more

So hands down one of the best German food spots I've been to. And like most German restaurants, the portions are insane. Not only is it a lot of food, but the food tastes amazing. We had the pretzel with crab. The pretzel by far is one of the best I've had. Almost like a New York bagel with the great chew with a crunch. And the crab on top was perfect with it. For an actual meal we had Jagerschniztel with the pork. Amazing and large. The mushrooms on top were great and so flavorful. And the crunch on the pork held up nicely. They have a huge selection of beers and other spirits. And they have a great vibe to it. Indoor and outdoor seating. Bottom line. Come here. I highly recommend. read more

Stopped in here for lunch on a Tuesday with my wife. I got the chicken schnitzel and roasted broccoli. Wife got pork schnitzel and cabbage. We also tried the potato cakes, which were actually really good. The chicken schnitzel was really thin and overcooked in oil that probably should have been changed last week, but it was still edible. The roasted broccoli was really good. My wife pork schnitzel, while still a bit overcooked in old oil, was much better than the chicken. I will definitely get the pork for myself next time. Service was very friendly and quick. That alone is worth coming back. Overall, I recommend coming here. Very nice place. read more

So while we found this place due to it being listed on MD Restaurant Week, we did not end up getting the bucket of schnitzel and 2 large sides. But we might as well have since we ended up ordering so much food. We were seating outdoors in the old judge's 'jailhouse' or something. It was cute, and it was a chillyish evening but it felt nice sitting there since the structure ended up being both open but giving us privacy from other outdoor diners. We ordered the crab dip pretzel and fries (with curried ketchup) to share, I got the chicken schnitzel and veal wurst, my bf got the falafel and eggplant schnitzel and for dessert we shared the blackforest ice cream sandwich which local business Scoop and Paddle makes exclusively for this place. The crab pretzel was delicious and my chicken schnitzel was really good and crispy and perfectly complemented by their RK sauce. My bf enjoyed his eggplant schnitzel as well and really for the price point we had a ton of food and definitely enough for leftover lunch the next day. I would recommend everyone support this local business. Very yummy food, great service as well. read more

The food was tasty but the portions were really small. And everything was "extra": sauerkraut for your wurst extra. Roll for your wurst extra (and your only choice is pretzel roll). Potato cakes were barely bigger than a silver dollar. One expects hearty and filling from a German restaurant. Not petite portions. I'm a petite woman so if I was still hungry you know it was small. Service was very good. No complaints. Lunch is only served in the cellar and it was cold down there. Only a few booths. If you want a booth make a reservation for lunch. Not sure if we'll be back. read more

Hidden gem in Elkridge, Maryland. This bar is a bit difficult to find in a basement of a building. My close girlfriend and I had a girls night. It's a non traditional German pub. It has a fusion feel to the restaurant. I sat at the bar with my girlfriend. The bartender was so very friendly. She talked to us all night. I got a 4 course meal basically start to finish. Everything was delish. I ordered the pretzel I shared it with my friend. I also got the chicken schnitze, arugula salad. For dessert I got a brownie sundae it was made in house. The cocktails are phemononal just a bit pricey. They are pretty strong. A great restaurant for a date night. The bathrooms are clean and it smells amazing. I would definitely come back. read more

What a find. I enjoyed currywurst on a pretzle bun with spaetzle and Bitburger beer. Food was very good the service was even better. The location is a little off the beaten path and a little challenging to find. I'll help you, up on arrival as you pull in to the parking lot on the right side of the building, Rathskeller is downstairs below the coffee shop. Selina is awesome. She is very attentive and personable. I will definitely be back next time I fly in or out of Baltimore. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience ! read more

Rathskeller is such a great restaurant literally in the basement of a building due to its namesake. The restaurant is pretty compact, so all the larger tables were reserved for a Saturday evening, but we were able to snag seats at the bar. The bartender was really friendly and made great drinks too. She also made a really delicious shooter called the honeybee and explained what it was to us and even showed us the bottle of the alcohol. As a cocktail lover, I appreciated her being forthcoming. I got the fried chicken schnitzel and some veggies on the side and it was so perfectly cooked and fried. I really enjoyed my meal and the next time I'm in the area, I will definitely stop by again. read more

The first time I went (I think around April or May of 2021) I had some issues with the restaurant but I'm happy to say that a year later everything seems to be pretty ironed out and I really enjoyed my most recent visit. Now I'm definitely a fan and am looking forward to returning. Rathskeller is a tiny cozy restaurant with a small bar and nice menu of German staples. They've got 6 German and German style beers on tap and then a longer bottle list. I know they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays but when we visited they had a playlist of new German music on which was very cool. We enjoyed some appetizers, both the flammekuchen and potato pancakes were phenomenally delicious. We've had a few of the different sausages and the pork schnitzels which are crispy fried to perfection. You have some options of sauces or to have your wurst or schnitzel on a roll/bun, all of which are great. I have yet to try their desserts, maybe next time we will get a chance but I'm always stuffed by the time we finish our dinner. I will absolutely be back to try this place again read more

happened upon this place when I was on a work trip, looking for a spot to take myself out on a date ha! when I initially looked at the menu, I got worried that I wouldn't find something I liked (besides the pretzel (who doesn't love a solid pretzel?!)....I thought I would end up just getting sides but I was def wrong. i tried the chicken schnitzel (on a pita), the pretzel and also the ice cream sandwich. each thing I ordered was top quality and tasted amazing. the cheese that came with the pretzel was the perfect consistency and flavor, and the pretzel was shiny on the outside, and soft in the middle. the sandwich I got was also delicious and I loved the sweet, tangy sauce that came with it. I also liked that they didn't skimp on my sandwich. that baby was bursting at the seams with chicken and veggies. I topped things off with the ice cream sandwich (recommended by the super nice and friendly bartender...I sat at the bar). def for the chocolate lovers since the cookie was very decadent but it balanced nicely with the creamy middle and dollop of whipped cream. read more

Amazing food and a quaint dining experience. Love the atmosphere and service. One of our favorites.

I really enjoyed this place! I've actually never had German food since back in the Midwest, all the restaurants were so meat heavy so I never got a chance to try it. But I was so happy to see so many vegetarian options! I tried the eggplant schnitzel, large pretzel, & my friend let me try some of curry fries! Everything was well seasoned and flavorful! I love the outdoor area as well! It's the perfect place for a happy hour or just a place to hang out in the summer. Definitely coming here again! read more
