Excellent service, nice space and delicious food. My group of 12 had a great time. And the service was quick!

Very good German beer and food. Lots of options. Authentic Rathskeller feel. The TV is a little out of place. Service was fast and efficient. read more

I was looking for a lunch place and this restaurant came up in the search and the menu looked interesting as they had a variety of veggie and non-veggie german food options. The place itself looked really nice - it was in the basement in what looked like a renovated house; it made the experience that much better. the restaurant was practicing safety guidelines including spacing tables as well as staff wearing gloves and masks When we sat dine, we were informed that the restaurant was participating in restaurant week so they get some specials which included a starter, a main, and two sides for $20. we decided to get that plus another item. for our restaurant week we started with the pretzel, our main was the chicken schnitzel (veggie options were available) and the two sides were the slaw and fries. i also got a rk salad as well. overall, the food was good but german food is not known to have lots of flavor so the sauces really helped. standouts including the pretzel, the fries and the slaw; the rk salad was more basic and the chickens flavor was helped by the sauce. overall it was a nice place to enjoy some german food and they have both veggie and non-veggie options read more

This place is tucked away in a very unsuspecting location, but the outside decor and patio are very cute! The host looked very frazzled and overwhelmed when we walked in, but we were seated right away at a table for 2. The music was VERY loud, which is the reason I took one star off. I felt like I had to shout at my coworker from across the table. The server was quick, efficient, and very friendly. The food came out relatively quick. I had the pretzel with a side of honey mustard, and the pork rahmschnitzel with a side of broccoli and cabbage. Very good and flavorful! Would recommend this place. read more

Bottom Line: Excellent German inspired fare and attentive service in a neat underground location. I've been to Rathskeller twice and both times both the food and service was excellent. So far I have tried some of the wurst, chicken cordon bleu, crab pretzel, spatzle n' cheese, spatzle with local veggies and black forest ice cream sandwich. My next item to try is the curry wurst. Just writing this review I am craving another trip to The Rathskeller. On both of my visits I was with a party of two and we sat at a table in the corner. I was worried we'd be forgotten about but we enjoyed terrific service. Also, I should note that both times I felt lucky to get a table as we didn't have a reservation and the restaurant is small. I definitely recommend making a reservation and keeping your party to a relatively small size. The parking lot in which The Rathskeller is relatively small but there is plenty of parking just a tad up the street. In Germany a rathskeller is typically located in a cellar so it is appropriate that The Rathskeller is located in the basement of a building. Look for the flight of steps that head underground. read more

Decided to try this out with the bestie and the boyfriend. Lunch on Saturday before Christmas eve, no reservation. The atmosphere is nice and in the basement but well lit. Staff was friendly and present. Very attentive without being obnoxious. Manager visited every table and checked in on them. The food was delicious. Portions were perfect. I had the pork schnitzel with German potato salad and sauerkraut. Bestie had chicken schnitzel sandwich with fries. Boyfriend had pork schnitzel with mushroom gravy, broccoli and potato cakes. read more

My husband and I have heard about The Rathskeller since it opened but never came despite living in the area - until tonight. This restaurant is incredible. We parked easily, utilizing the elevator to bring the stroller down to the restaurant, and were immediately seated. The waitress came by to take our orders, and as someone with food allergies, I usually have to go back and forth a few times with the kitchen to make sure everything is going to be safe, but their kitchen is soy and nut free! I can eat everything on their menu and that is so freeing. It also happened to be Restaurant week so there was an additional menu to try things from. We ordered the Kroketten from the Restaurant Week menu, and the rest of our food from the regular menu. Omg everything is so much more flavorful than I thought it would be. I'm familiar with Swiss and Polish foods, but didn't know much about German food. The curry fries with curry ketchup were a flavor combo I had never had before but I really enjoyed. The pretzel was huge and so buttery and flaky. The spakle tasted like Mac and cheese. My husband got the brat on a pretzel bun, but wished he got my schnitzel. The croquettes were delicious little mashed potato balls and the sauce they were served with was delectable! Prices were very reasonable and we definitely want to come back to try the pork schnitzel, apple strudel, German potato salad, and the latkes. We came in starving and got full so quickly that we are bringing home boxes of food. It was the perfect warm, hearty, filling meal for a hungry, snowy January night. read more

Delicious! We did have a lot of fried food, but it was so worth it. We decided to eat outside. The patio is very nice. Our server was wonderful. I like that I could order a 1/2 pour of beer, so I could try more than one. The Collins glass they came in were cute. My sister & shared all of our food, & we still had some to take with us. The Falafel was the best I have ever had. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside & so flavorful. The Crispy Eggplant Schnitzel-yum! Potato Pancakes crispy & delicious, & the red cabbage, so good. The Salat was lovely. I wish this Rathskeller was closer to S IN, so I could frequent it more. read more

First visit to the Rathskeller last night - two thumbs up. We took another couple to the Rathskeller on a Thursday for dinner to scheme about an upcoming trip to Germany over thematic cuisine. Parking lot is indeed limited, but we had no trouble at the overflow lot across the street. We were seated at a cozy enclosed booth and tended to by Anna, who did a great job, friendly and helpful. We tried some German draft beers, a glass of wine, and a soda, after which the four of us split one of the huge buttered soft pretzels. It was a treat, crusty and soft in the places it should be, warm, and with a tangy cheddar dip. A great start. Then we ordered a couple of chicken cordon bleu platters and a couple of schnitzel platters. All were enjoyed very much. My pork jaeger schnitzel was a lovely boneless pork cutlet breaded and fried, with a nice mushroom gravy. My beloved had the eggplant schnitzel, similarly breaded and fried, and polished it right off. We also enjoyed the many choices of side dishes, including cute little crispy potato cakes, tangy and warm German potato salad, delicious braised red cabbage, and sauerkraut. Since we had a birthday among us (or did we?), Anna brought us a free hot apple streudel, and we also split a large slice of Black Forest cake, moist and sweet. The service never lagged -- every staffer that walked by grabbed an empty dish off our table -- and the food was just right. It's in a smallish basement, but the space works well, including a little bar with many offerings. The room got a little loud at times, but we muddled through. Really liked the Rathskeller. When our plans are in the area, will return. read more

Who knew a German place would have vegan food? Let me tell you I am so glad I went out of my way to eat here. The entrance is deceiving so don't go through the wrong door. You actually have to go downstairs & then probably go upstairs to eat in the dining room. I was pretty impressed by my meal, which was the eggplant dish w/ jager sauce & some broccoli. People at other tables had beverages & appetizers that looked very appealing. I was tempted to get dessert but was good w/ what I had. So yeah go check it out. read more

We had dinner at The Rathskeller last weekend. It was Baltimore County Restaurant Week. We each got the restaurant week special so that we could try a number of items from the menu. First time visit for each of us. I had the German pizza appetizer, Pork Schnitzel with fries and German potato salad. The other half got the potato cake appetizer, Chicken Schnitzel, roasted broccoli and spaetzle. Everything was delicious. We got a lot of food with the specials, we took home the sides as leftovers. Great experience. There is lots of parking. The ambience is very nice. Very neat and clean. Interesting antique furniture that adds to the old time atmosphere. Dining rooms upstairs and downstairs. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely come back again. read more

We've been wanting to try Rathskeller for a year and finally visited. We were seated outside with our small dog by the friendly and sincere hostess. Our server was also fantastic, providing both professional service and spot-on recommendations. Since our pup hadn't eaten yet, we figured we'd get him a grilled chicken schnitzel. Nope...our waiter said they had an off-menu specialty dish for dogs called the Kaiser Pup. We were floored. He was extremely happy with it. For an appetizer we had the Potato Cakes. We were stunned by the finesse of the execution with such a simple app....loaded with flavor. Next, I had the Wurst sampler with German Potato Salad and German Slaw while my partner had the Salmon dish. Again, cooked to perfection. We ended the meal with an excellent Bread Pudding. Their is a high level of pride and ownership at Rathskeller, from the service, to the kitchen, and the overall culture. This place is a true gem. read more

Delicious! Stopped in for a late lunch, just off US-1 just outside of I-895. Plenty of on-site parking. Ate on the patio which has four picnic tables and some chairs with backs. Service was quick and friendly. Our server was happy to explain a few menu items and answer our questions about this wurst or that sauce. We both got a lightly-spiced smoked pork-wurst, the Debreziner (named for a Hungarian town), well-done at our request, on a pretzel roll, with sautéed sauerkraut and a side of brown mustard. Cooked perfectly as we requested, obviously fresh and not frozen, juicy with some bite to the skin. Tasty lightly grilled kraut, savory mustard. An excellent obviously freshly-house-made pretzel roll, pillowy-soft with a crispy not-hard crust. I would have liked a somewhat lower price, $16 the way I ordered it, ah the cost of quality ingredients. Now, they very nearly lost a star by charging for sauerkraut at a German restaurant! But they earned it back with a wonderful flavor experience! Gotta come back for the after-7pm weekday happy hour, or the Saturday brunch! read more

It was my first time at The Rathskeller and I had a pretty good experience! I sat outside and I actually really liked the vibe. The only thing is that there were like 3 flies that kept coming near our food and there was even a bee.... But other than that the experience was very pleasant. Food was pretty good too. Instead of getting the regular pork schnitzel I got the rahmschnitzel which is basically the schnitzel with white wine cream sauce. I'm glad I got that instead because the cream was real good. Pickled cabbage and potato cakes as sides were great choices as well, and I also got to try their mocktail and I can say that it was one of the best drinks I've had recently! read more

ELKRIDGE, Md. - The missus has been to Germany multiple times, big fan of German food. This, she raved as we sat at the bar over dinner on a Saturday night , is goooood. We didn't have reservations (tip - make one if you're going), but bar seating was fine. Bartender lady and the host guy were both friendly. Seemed very busy at the host stand. The frau ordered the chicken jagerschnitzel ($26) with sides of German potato salad and German slaw. I had the chicken rahmschnitzel ($26) w/ potato cakes and roasted broccoli. The schnitzels were dope - crispy without being over cooked, not overly greasy. 'Perfect,' wife says. Both sauces were good. Notably the mushroom sauce was vegan. And you can get eggplant schnitzel. Potato salad was warm, had a nice a light vinegary-ness to it without being overly sour. Like the schnitzel, the potato cakes had a good crispness and weren't grossly oily. You're given a good-sized amount - both of us came hungry and both left with a decent snack's worth of leftovers. Two half pours of beer, $8, total bill was $60. We'll definitely be returning. Limited parking on site but there's a big gravel lot by the train tracks that's available. read more

The food was very good, but perhaps a little too salty. Most of the people in my group got individual schnitzels for themselves, but two of us split a party platter. The party platter comes with your choice of 4 schnitzels or wursts, a large pretzel, some potato cakes, and a variety of dipping sauces to try. This could honestly be shared between 3-4 people. We ended up with leftovers because the party platter had so much food. I had a pork schnitzel, half of a Bauernwurst (pork sausage with mustard seeds), half of a Weisswurst (Veal sausage with parsley), and some of the pretzel and potato cakes. Here are my thoughts on these items: Pork Schnitzel: This was the star of the show for me. The breading on the schnitzel was very flavorful and delicious! The only downside was that it was a little too salty, but I was mostly okay with that. The meat was tender and had a great texture. I would definitely get this dish again in the future. Baurenwurst: Great flavor, but I didn't like this as much as the schnitzel. Honestly, we picked the two wursts we did because they were the only ones the restaurant still had on the particular day that we visited. This wurst was juicy with each bite, but also a little on the saltier end. Weisswurst: This wurst tasted a bit more bland compared to everything else on our platter. I thought it was fine but not something I'd get again. Large Pretzel: The large pretzel is HUGE! It comes with a melted cheesy dip that pairs well, but the pretzel is fine on its own too. It was really good when they brought it out fresh, soft, and warm. The leftovers definitely don't compare to the original, so make sure to eat this up at the restaurant if you order it. Potato Cakes: These were really good! The skin was crisp, which contributed to the good texture with every bite. I would get this again. Overall, I enjoyed the food but had a rough experience with getting seated. I came here with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon. We were really excited to eat here, but we had a long delay to wait for a table. Turns out there was a party of two that had already paid their bill and boxed up their leftovers but were still sitting and chatting for over 1 hour. We finally got seated after 1.5 hours despite initially being told that our wait time would be around 20-30 minutes due to the inconsiderate other party. The restaurant handled the situation well, though. After around the 1 hour mark of waiting, we spoke to the host to ask why it was taking so long. They told us that the people at our table had already paid and packed up their leftovers, so they'd check what the delay was and politely asked the other party to leave. By this point, my group was starving but very grateful for the host stepping in for us. read more

The food and service were really good! We came for restaurant week and were not disappointed by the selection. The menu was unique and delicious. I had a soft pretzel with cheese sauce for my first course. Second course was potato cakes with a delicious sweet apple sauce on one side and a savory mayo/mustard sauce on the other. Third course was the best by far; the goulash. Amazing spicy sauce with tender beef and veggies and some toast to soak up the gravy. Dessert was blueberry cheesecake and cream. My husbands meal was just as good with stuffed mushrooms, a German take on pizza and a falafel pita sandwich with fries and curry ketchup. His dessert was Black Forest cake. My only complaint was it is a very small space and VERY loud when full of people. I would like to see some carpets or other soft things to damper the noise. There was also live music that started at 7pm. Overall, delicious food, great drinks but hard to have a conversation. read more

After a hike in Patapsco Valley State Park, we looked for a local restaurant, and happily found this one just a few miles outside the gate. It was a fantastic find! Having lived in Germany, I have found it difficult to find really good, authentic German food, but this place definitely hit the spot! Food was bland. Drinks were watery. Prices are average. Beer is absolutely delicious!! Ordered potato latkes, schnitzel and spaetzle with veggies. All came out burned and badly overcooked. Salt was sprinkled on top of the schnitzel, meaning that it was not incorporated in the cooking, but only added as an afterthought. The waitstaff was fast and helpful and courteous. read more

Years ago, nestled between Baltimore and Washington DC in area called Jessup, there was a great family oriented German beer hall called Blob's Park. Unfortunately this German institution closed a number of years ago and it has been hard to find genuine German food until now. Let me introduce you to the Rathskeller! The Rathskeller is located along infamous Route 1 (Washington Blvd) in Elkridge a stones throw from another unusual whistle wetter called Daniels (More to Come about this infamous biker bar). The Rathskeller is a Real Deal German restaurant serving traditional food and beer with some added twists by serving creative cocktails like the Cucumber Cascade. The evening started out with the aforementioned Cucumber Cascade and a Rathaus Pilsner along with a traditional buttered pretzel. We the. Had the pork Schnitzel prepared two ways, traditional fried and the jagerschnitzel which was bathed in mushrooms and brown gravy. Although the traditional fried schnitzel was good, the jagerschnitzel was out of this world. As if the entrees were not enough to brag about, the sides are even better. We had braised to perfection red cabbage, roasted broccoli and spatzle n' cheese. I must warn you do not miss the sparsely n' cheese which may be the best take on Mac n' cheese that any kid or adult would enjoy! To round out the meal we had apple straddle and ice cream. To be honest the strudel was good, but was a little bit of a let down after everything else we had. Would have loved a slice of German chocolate cake, some German run balls or a fruit flan. The other thing worth pointing out is the wait staff, they were terrific! Unfortunately, I did not get their names, but the team on Sept 14, 2021 did a great job and were very attentive to making it a great evening. So if you are in the Baltimore/Washington corridor or near BWI airport and have a hankering for traditional German food, the Rathskeller is a great place to go. Next time we will do the Wursts. read more

Delicious, warm & inviting, and specialty drinks are amazing. Nice outside patio for warmer days.

I wanted to like Rathskeller so much - my family always loved great German food growing up and options around here are almost non-existent. 4 of us came for dinner on a Saturday evening and were seated indoors right next to the door - we were worried about the people coming/going but it was fine. The indoor and outdoor areas are quite small but it worked out just fine. The beer selection was nice and we enjoyed that. Two of us shared the party platter and the other two shared the combo platter. For the combo platter, we got pork schnitzel, bauernwurst, currywurst, and weisswurst - it is extra if you want sauce on your meat. For sides, we got Spatzle N' Cheese and Red Cabbage. The spatzel n cheese was disgusting - the cheese had broke (separated in to fat and curd). When we told the waitress, we said if it's the same cheese, we'll take the potato salad, so we got the potato salad. Generally, the meats are fine - nothing special. The potato salad was warm and very vinegary. The red cabbage was what you would expect. The manager came by to check on us and I mentioned the cheese - said he knew about it long before our order came in but the kitchen didn't remake the cheese sauce and that's why we got served it. This didn't sit right with me as he was also doing expediting from the kitchen so should know what broken cheese looks like to not serve guests. Service was slow and our server often went missing, so we had to ask other runners to get us more water or drinks. There was a live musician who played inside - he was fine but far from any type of music you would expect at a German restaurant and it was incredibly loud for such a small location, so it was hard to talk across the table. Overall, we sadly won't be back. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and there is lots of street parking around. read more

Really cool spot servin up German food and drink in the basement of a house in Elkridge, they even got an outdoor patio. And the host and servers were all friendly n helpful with all the German stuff on the menu. Only good things to say bout their late night happy hour drinks with the $4 Hofbraus and $7 cocktails. Tried their Golden Pear and two other cocktails, all 3 were delicious. The potato cakes were crunchy, fried golden, full of potato flavor, they're like the best hash browns you've ever had. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was slightly disappointing. The pork schnitzel was dry and the seasoning was lacking, the honey mustard sauce was much appreciated. The broccoli with sautéed onions and apple cider drizzle were solid tho, and so was the potato salad. The bratwurst was meaty n flavorful but also sort of dry. The spatzle n cheese was a pleasantly chewy texture but was surprisingly bland. I think the most disappointing dish was the Flammkuchen or the German pizza, it looked nothing like the pic on the website. It was barely topped with sautéed onions so it almost looked like a pizza Lunchable over-sprinkled with cheddar cheese. That being said, I'd definitely order the potato cakes n fries again. And the $4 beers and $7 cocktails during happy hour are dangerous Despite some of the disappointing food, really cool spot. And I've heard good things bout the pretzels, will give those a try next time we back. read more

Excellent food. Even though they were down two servers - we would have never known. Going back to try another dish in the menu very soon.

Came to Rathskeller after seeing all the good reviews and was not disappointed!! They have a nice outdoor area but we dined in the basement. We split a party platter between 4 people and an app which was plenty. I tried the pretzel, potato cakes, some bratwursts, and a pork schnitzel. The food was delicious and to top it off, we got $3 beers because they have a late night happy hour. Definitely worth trying! read more

Oh. My. God. Awesome!!! We got the Schnitzel basket, comes with 4 and two large sides, highly recommend. The spatzel is super light, and like a German max and cheese here. The potato pancakes are an absolute delicacy. Pork schnitzel with the jaegerschnitzel sauce is probably my favorite, but the chicken and eggplant were also amazing. The beer and cocktails are also top notch. I just wish we lived closer, this would be a once a week destination for us for sure. Prost! read more

I wasn't sure what to expect since there is a "new German" place Michigan that set the bar on German food and wine for us. However, for a place like this in Elkridge it's a fully lovely five stars. Starter: a fricking enormous cheese and charcuterie plate, risotto bites and potato cakes and pretzel. Everything wAs amazing. Entrees: goulash, chicken schnitzel and salmon. Dessert: Black Forest cake and raspberry swirl cheesecake Beer and wine list was excellent. My sister and I did the flight. Really excellent selection. And two were reds and I don't love red wine. The guys loved the beer. Appetizers were all great. The cheese and meat tray is a full on tray. Huge and more than worth the $31. High marks on everything else as well. The goulash was the clear winner. Such deep flavor. OMG. The chicken schnitzel was thin and crispy. The salmon was perfect. Chees was light and tart and perfect. The Black Forest cake was sadly a bit dry. Still great service. Really cool space and ambiance. I hope to be back soon. Glad to see this kind of place in Elkridge. read more

Food eas great ladt time, can't wait to go again , good beer selection, very attentive wait and bar staff.

What's up foodie peeps! Today I tried German street food in Elkridge, Maryland. Say hello to The Rathskeller. This is a nice little hole in the wall that you might drive by thinking it's someone's house or a trinket store. Nope, it's a yummy food bar place with friendly, energetic staff who practice COVID safe procedures. Food deets. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel fried pork version and a spicy version of their pork bratwurst. The Jagerschnitzel is a schnitzel (thin slice of fried meat) smothered in mushrooms and gravy. The pork schnitzel was juicy and crunchy. The gravy was well absorbed into the crunchy panko crust for more savory tastes. The sides I got were red cabbage and spatzle and cheese. I've never had these side flavors before and they were good. The red cabbage has a vinegary savory taste. The spatzle and cheese (cheesy egg pasta) was a bit on the salty side but if you mix either that or the cabbage together with the schnitzel, it's a good harmonious taste. The pork bratwurst (German sausage) has a great snappy crunch when you bite into it. Very well seasoned with the pork juices and herbs. The mustard gave it a little spunk! All in all, in enjoyed the food here. New tastes are always great to keep the taste buds active. I will say the proteins were lacking in quantity, for me at least, but will be a decent meal for those who just wanna snack . If you're looking for a nice dive with chill atmosphere and drinks, check this place out! Till next we food, stay safe and healthy! NOMZ! read more

I've been on the lookout for German restaurants that serve authentic German fare like my mom made. I saw this on Baltimores top restaurants and decided to go with a friend for lunch. The drinks were fantastic! I had the "I fall for you" and my friend had the Golden Pear. Mine was reminiscent of the rum swizzles I had in Bermuda, slightly sweet just how I like my cocktails. The Golden Pear was tangy and refreshing. I ordered the pork schnitzel, red cabbage and potato cakes. My friend got the cabbage and Roasted Broccoli. We planned to share the schnitzel and potato cakes. The sides were great except the potato cakes were quite dry since they failed to tell us they didn't have the fresh Crème Fraiche or even sour cream or applesauce until the waitress brought our food out. She said they ran out. The gentleman who sat us later said they make it in house and it wasn't ready yet. Either way I feel they should have told us when we ordered. The Schnitzel was quite salty without crème. Service was quick and friendly and the food was at a good temperature. The waitress did bring us a shot of peppermint schnapps at the end but never said if that's standard or to make up for the lacking creme. We won't be back as we ended up taking most of the meal home to eat properly. read more

Cute little German restaurant in the basement of a house converted to businesses in Elkridge. My boyfriend and I came in on a Saturday evening for a beer and pretzel. There was a 20 minute wait for outdoor seating, so we sat at the bar. My only critique is that it was a little odd to have multiple bartenders and employees coming and going behind the bar and not get asked for several minutes if he wanted another drink when the glass was empty, but overall service was prompt and the employees were friendly. We'll be back to try some more tasty beers and dinner next time. read more
