Never really had German food like this before, but i am hooked! Very low key atmosphere with German decorations inside. The food was AMAZING. The sour beef and dumplings are a MUST. Also loved the jagerschnitzel, spicy sausage, and the cauliflower. Morgan, our server did an amazing job! Very attentive. Will definitely be back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants! A reservation is highly recommended since the restaurant is pretty small. The food, drinks and service were all excellent. We started with the pretzel which was fresh, warm and delicious. I then had the pork schnitzel while my husband had a brat platter. We tried various sides and they were all good. I can't wait until my next visit.

2 great German beers!

First night in Maryland (mix business and visit family). Stopped by for dinner. About a 15 minute wait which was perfect to browse the menue and beer list. Spent a few years in Germany in the service and this place gave the guesthouse feel. Down in a basement, decorated as such, with tight seating and a fun atmosphere. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Made us feel at home. Ordered potato cakes as an appetizer (no photo, ate them too quickly). Dunked and a Fastentbeer beer were great. Jagarsnitzel and a burst. Both fantastic. Authentic fries and curry ketchup. Even the Spitzer brought back memories. Looks like outdoor seating is available when it gets warmer. Really enjoyed our experience!

Incredible! We had never tried German food and were super curious about this spot recommended to us by some friends. Checked it out for our anniversary dinner and it was so good! We ordered the pretzel, chicken schnitzel, and the sausages. The waiter brought our food out right away and was very attentive and the atmosphere of both the patio and the interior was super nice. We will definitely be coming back incredible food, service, and drinks! 10/10

Paddle and scoop, humongous.

What great German food. Servings are very generous and food is wonderful. Good staff, excellent beer selection.

Absolutely loved it here! The service was phenomenal. The decor is very lively and well blended. The food was sooo good. We can't wait to come back.

Awesome German food! But a lil pricey. Also a small parking lot, not very much room, but good beer and a good local spot.

Ceasor schnitzel special with späzel and German potato salad

I've dined here twice and both were delicious experiences. I first came in the summer and got a plate of schnitzel with a salad on top. My two sides were the German potato salad and the spätzle. All items were delicious. It's also a very generous portion. My second revisit was yesterday. I came for lunch with a friend. While it's not listed explicitly on the menu, you can request a half pour of any of the beers. I had a half pour of the Hefeweizen and the Debrezener (spicy pork sausage) on the pretzel bun and German slaw. I had tried to order the sauerkraut, but unfortunately they were out. The plus side is that I tried something I wouldn't have otherwise tried. The sausage was lightly spicy. The pretzel bun was the perfect vessel for the sausage. The slaw was slightly sweet and crisp. I was surprised at how perfectly it all came together, but I would order this again. Service is really helpful. The weekday vibe in the basement is not very busy.

Combo Platter with chicken schnitzel, pork schnitzel, bratwurst

This restaurant is located in the cellar of the building, parking can be difficult during busy hours. The waiter was prompt and polite, he was knowledgeable about the menu and told us what is popular. The food was great with good seasoning with the sauces adding to the meal. The platter had a good selection of food so you aren't missing out on the popular stuff! The restaurant was small and intimate with touches of German aspects.

Pita was cold and so were the chicken schnitzels. Don't think I've been served a cold pita and it definitely bummed me out. Good sauce and salad though. Definitely don't miss the salad. Ice cream sandwich had good texture. Choc cake is too rich for me. Closer to fudge than cake imo. Sat outside by the entrance so missed out on the noisy basement indoor dining. Seems like a popular busy spot so don't expect quick service not to the fault of the servers. Menu was a bit limited but I'm guessing people come here more for the drinks than their food.

Great German food in a totally unexpected place. Service was on point and it is an actual cellar so the place fits the vibe.

Ask the Community - Rathskeller

We're interested in trying out your restaurant. Do you by chance have any gluten free menu items and what is your procedure for handling the gluten free meals? There are few of us in the group with gluten allergy. Thanks in advance for responding.

We do carry grilled schnitzels and wursts. Many of our sides are gf too. We do our best to not contaminate but as a gluten-present establishment, there will always be a risk

Do they serve hard cider?

We carry Wynridge Cider from Pennsylvania. Every now and then, we also have Fuchshof, a German cider made from Franken Apples

Do they allow dogs?

Yes, dogs are allowed on the biergarten

This bar is inside the Hotel Ulysses, once entering the lobby, it's up the stairs and on the right. The dimly lit, mirror covered walls, and plush velvet seating adds to the upscale vibes. My mom got a drink that included something called shrub (never heard of this before), but the server warned us it is a bit vinager-y and different, but that was ok for us. I ordered the Ocha Kudasai and my mom got the Zahara. The Kudasai was like a lychee green tea drink, it was light, slightly sweet, and delicious. The Zahara was different (as promised), but actually delectable. It had a flavor that I had never had in a drink before, but in a pleasant way. If you're an adventurous drinker, definitely try the Zahara! Love the vibes here, I will definitely be back.

The service was top-notch from the moment we walked in. The hostess even gave us a little tour so we could decide where we wanted to sit. On our first visit, we chose the bar and completely lucked out, we got to meet the cocktail master and some of the other staff while they were doing tasting tests. They walked us through the history and inspiration behind the cocktails and creations, which made the experience feel so much more personal. The atmosphere is lovely. I started with the Japanese Breakfast, which was tart and boozy, while my husband got the Pineapple Express, which had such a unique flavor. I didn't love the fizz, but he absolutely did! We then asked our server for recommendations and ended up with the Duck Season for me and the Spanish Moss for him. The Spanish Moss was a little too sweet for my taste, but the Duck Season was, without exaggeration, one of the most interesting things I've ever tasted. It was savory, rich, and deep, almost velvety and chocolate-like, despite not actually being chocolate. The entire combination of flavors was incredible. On our next visit, we sat outside, and the ambiance was just as wonderful. This time we tried a Stranger in Paradise and an I'm a Baijiu A Drink, and both had incredibly detailed and thoughtful flavor profiles. Between the cocktails, the staff, the atmosphere, and the fact that every drink feels like its own little experience, I absolutely cannot wait to go back!
