My girlfriend and I got the chicken tikka (Tikka Chance On Me) and turmeric ginger shrimp (Home Cooking) bowls, along with garlic naan, samosas, mango lassi, and mango lassi soft serve. I thought the bowls tasted great- I thought the chicken tikka bowl in particular was well balanced and had a bit of every flavor you expect to taste when you go out for Indian food. I enjoyed the fact that they offered a ton of different toppings here. However, the I'd say that the protein lacked a lot of flavor. Serving up fun cocktails with an Indian twist, grain bowls, and other healthy, plant-based Desi delicacies. I ordered two grain bowls: one UpBeet and the other make your own (though modelled after the chicken tikka bowl with slight modifications). The tomato chutney was so creamy and delicious; everything blended well and allowed me all the fun of a full stomach without the guilt. I've been on a Yelp-review-posting hiatus and this restaurant has brought me out! I came here totally on a whim. I was walking down the street to another restaurant and noticed that Rasa opened. I was goi to keep walking but the beautiful aroma caught me. This place definitely lived up to those scents wafting from the open doors. This is the fast casual style restaurant we've come to know and love. I hadn't studied the menu so I just chose as I went along. This is what I came up with: Lemon turmeric rice Chicken tikka Peanut sesame sauce Sautéed spinach Cucumber Masala beets Mango salsa Pickled onions Carrot slaw Toasted cumin yogurt It was seriously delicious. I love love love the idea of this place- it's Indian chipotle!! The inside is very cute with lots of seating. It was clean inside and they have a lot of drink options. The mango lassi looks SO good. My friend finished hers in like less than 1 minute. We just got the mango lassi, 2 mini samosas, and the chips and chutney. They were a yummy snack. Delicious! Honestly you can't go wrong with DIY menus, but this Indian/South Asian twist was phenomenal! I didn't feel like any of the flavors were compromised by the style of serving compared to traditional dine in. The tofu and cauliflower entree was well seasoned, cauliflower braised until soft. The spinach was creamy (but still vegan! :D) and spicy. All in all loved the flavor options and customizability. Super excited about this place! I heard about it years ago when the first location opened and have always meant to go, but never got the dance. Finally, a couple of weeks ago a friend and I grabbed dinner from Rasa. I ordered a shrimp bowl and my friend ordered a custom veggie bowl. We were both so happy with our orders! The bowls are big - I ate mine across 2 meals. We also ordered their beets raita to have on the side and got their chai masala cookies for dessert. Everything was really, really good! I've been seeing RASA's name around on various DC food-oriented websites over the past several months, but it was a Yelp Elite promotion that finally pushed me to trying it out! I got a full bowl of the Tikka Chance On Me for $2 via the promotion, plus a mango lassi. The bowl was a great size but was very much lacking chicken as well as tikka sauce. It was 50% white rice. Nonetheless, it could easily make 2-3 meals out of one bowl. The mango lassi was from their cooler and pre-made, but still pretty good! What I actually really loved was the very cool modern South Indian fusion look of the restaurant, with bright colors and cool Indian-inspired art! Indoor dining was not available yet here, but it would have been a great atmosphere to eat out with friends if it was! If I'm in the area I would be open to giving RASA another chance, hopefully that bowl would have more substance. read more

Went for the first time last night and has a real hard time ordering because everything looks so good. We ordered online and our food was ready in under 10 minutes which was nice. The format is like a fancier version of chipotle or cava in the sense that you can go through a buffet type line and make your own bowls. The quality of food was excellent and the portions were larger than I expected. My favorite thing about this restaurant is their interesting drink and dessert selections. Lots of cocktails are infused with spices like Masala and cardamom. They had chai cookies and soft serve as well. Will definitely be back to try more things! read more

I usually don't start off my reviews discussing the decor of a restaurant (because honestly I love hole in the walls with zero ambiance and the food is what really matters), but I have to say first that I love the colorful, vibrant, and warm decor of this spot. It was frigid and cold and dark at 530pm (whyyyy), so it was a really nice reprieve to walk in and be welcomed by such a warm and inviting space. The food is also delicious. I'm gluten and dairy free, and the staff are super great about explaining what I could or couldn't eat. And I could eat so much of the food! There's pretty much no gluten or dairy in most of the options which is soooo great. I ate the South Indian vermicelli noodles (loved), beef & harvest veggies, tamarind sauce, saag (so good), chutney, and like all the crunchy toppings. This place is amazing! Very unique place with fresh ingredients. It's like an Indian fusion Cava but better. We had the Somosa Chaat, Tikka Chance On You, and a Mango Lassi. Finished it off with some Mango and Chai Ice Cream and some Chai chocolate cookies. The place is very inviting and all the food was bursting with fusion flavors. Portions are filling and you can up the spice level to your liking with their sauces. RASA is great and super easy to order. The interior is extremely cute with lots of seating as well as bonus outdoor seating. I forgot to take a picture of my bowl before eating since I was that excited to try this place out after hearing about it. All the rave is accurate as the food is sooo well made! I usually can't tolerate spicy food (still a fan of flavor though!) that well which leads me away from Indian food sometimes but this is the perfect spice level for me. We got two bowls, some samosas, and the cookies which were excellent for dessert. We really wanted to try the Mango Lassi soft serve but unfortunately, they were out. This was my first time at this location! I've tried RASA before but have only had the "You Got This" Menu. This time, I was excited to try from the "We Got You" picks! I ordered the Caul Me Maybe (mini bowl) and it was delicious! I really enjoyed all of the ingredients (especially the pumpkin seeds which gave it a nice CRUNCH)! I thought the mini size was a good sized portion and I felt satisfied after eating it. If you're more hungry, I'd definitely recommend the larger/regular size. I was interested in trying the soft serve, but the machine was unfortunately not working. Instead, I tried a Mango Lassi and really enjoyed it! I'll definitely visit again! read more

Rasa used to be great. But now they skimp on the sauces so much that a bowl ends up a watery, flavorless mess. I was a big fan of the first shop in Navy Yard and was blown away by the quality ingredients and deep flavors. Now hardly any of that flavor or quality makes it in the bowl. I've come to the K street location 3 times the last six months, and tried 3 different combinations of proteins and sauces. All ended up bland because there was very little sauce. I don't know if this is a strategy to save money - in which case you'll lose my money - or the staff is doing it wrong. Either way, I won't be back. read more

If you are looking for good Indian food and not fake American washed Indian food is, then don't come here. It wasn't bad tasting it's just that the chicken was bland and the spinach and chickpeas were very disappointing compared to the actual authentic and fresh versions of those dishes that any Indian can cook at home. We just ordered 3 bowls Veggie & Alloo along with garlic naan & 3 orders of mini samosas... sorry to say no thing was very good.. the samosas filling was ok however the dough wrap was too tough to eat the bowls are such a smart idea and if each of the items were good it could be delicious, sadly of the three adults none of us enjoyed any of it.. no one even ate half... the lentils were hard as rocks as if they were not even cooked... even the naan wasn't worthy.... very disappointing all that money and no one got dinner.. really sad... they have a very looong way to go to get this up to speed... Very unfortunately the worst Indian food I've had in my life. I got the tikka chance on me bowl and my friend got the Goa your own way bowl. Both were very bland and overly wet, but the Tikka bowl was basically a soup and there was a ton of liquid at the bottom. The decor is very cute and the store is colorful, but I would rather have an ugly bowl with delicious food in it than what I had here. Everything here was also severely overpriced for the amount of food given. The garlic naan and mango lassi were acceptable, but with how awful the main dishes were, I didn't really notice that much. The restaurant is a cross between a chipotle and Indian food, but in this case, just go for the Chipotle instead. read more

i am truly so so so SO disappointed in this place! i freaking love the RASA in navy yard and i was waiting for this place to open with baited breath. i finally went last night, and while its physically beautiful and has plenty of out door seating, thats where the good stuff ends--- i got shrimp that was literally soft and crumbly-- are you thinking "oh gross!", yea, so was i. Like i ate two and just had to throw it out (and ofcourse this was a To Go order, so by the time i got home i was too far to do anything about the bad quality. But shrimp that is too soft? like i mean not even rubbery or a little soft, like pure freaking mush... ahhhh, does that mean it was out there all day getting soft and gross? or was it just cooked too long? i dont know which is worse. and in navy yard their shrimp so perfect and firm and tasty. Disappointed is an understatement. But b/c i was so excited for this Rasa and b/c i really love their navy yard location, i also got the beef. Ummmm literally inedibly spicy-- and i am south asian! you know when something is so spicy you cant even taste it b/c all you can focus on is the heat? yea, it was that kind of spicy.
