I went here pretty regularly from 2011 to 2017. I typically asked for a skin-tight fade, which is not easy to do on my hair because of its thinness. Sonny is very experienced at this type of hairstyle. They also have a young kid named Steve who does a good job as well. If you want a really close fade, or if you have so-called "black" hair (which I don't), I'd probably go with these two guys. read more

Wow. What a great place. Having recently relocated to the area it was time to find a new barber shop. I turned to Yelp first but figured I do a walk-by first. One glance inside and I knew this wasn't some Supercuts type chain. I was warmly greeted by the staff. The place is classy, modern, and very clean. They even have a massage chair you can sit in if you have a wait. My hair was cut by Tamara and I could not be more pleased. It was as if she had read my mind and knew in advance how I wanted my hair cut. Her attention to detail was amazing...I've never had my hair cut so perfectly...and fast...at the same time. She completes the cut with a thorough hair blasting with the dryer...which is fantastic...for the first time in my life I could have left and gone to straight to work without millions of hair clippings all over my face, ears, and neck. She offered an electric or straight razor to clean up the neck and capped the experience with a nice cool blast of witch hazel. I am not exaggerating when I say this was the best haircut I have ever had. Looking around at other customers as they left and I'd have to say they all looked pleased and had equally great cuts. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a shave and cut (even if the place was crowded on a Sunday), and I always come out totally satisfied. I went there sat in one of the waiting chairs for about 25 minutes, when my turn to get a hair cut I was told by the other female barber that the male barber I wanted to get a haircut from had a finger infection so I had to come three days later. But he had just finished cutting another guy's hair. Maybe it was because I'm black cause I had waited for 3 white guys to get a hair cut but as for me I was turned down. I got my hair cut for the first time at Raphael's when I moved back to the DC area in 2009 (after nearly 30 years in LA) and moved in to an apartment in a highrise bldg. less than a block away from Raphael's (I hated the high rise and moved back into DC 9 months later). The first time Ebrahim cut my hair I knew it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship (just like Rick and Capt. Louis in Casablanca) because of his attention to detail that included removing the hair on my ears and in the open canals without asking. I have always been paranoid about the hair in and around my ears and was thrilled that Ebrahim went where very few barbers in the past had gone. He cut my hair just Iike I requested (I called it my 'summer butch cut' though I continued to get the same cut all year round. I remember telling him (after learning he was from Iran) not to try any funny business on me since I was Jewish. We both laughed. Ebrahim is a gentle soul, one of the nicest human beings I've ever met. Plus he's a damn good barber. His handsome son also works there. Once he stood in for his father (who was home sick with a cold) and gave me a terrific haircut. The owner Marta (from Russia where both my parents and grandparents were born) is a delight. I always get a big hug when I walk into her shop, making me feel very special. When I moved to Rehoboth Beach for 2 boring years (2013-2015) I continued to drive in for Ebrahim to give me a haircut. That should tell you how fond I am of him. He, Marta and everyone else there make it a pleasant experience. All for a reasonable price. It's only after just recently moving and having to find a new barber that I'm really appreciating how good a job they do. I usually cut with Sonny, Ebrahim or Jalal--all are excellent. Hey, I don't usually do these things but I'll be saving a couple lives here. My experience at Raphaels about a month ago were what I thought going to be great! I was greeted by a lady outside and the receptionist. But I guess barbers go by turn there, but I noticed a barber eating, one smoking, and the other SLEEPING!!!!!! while I'm in need of a haircut! well Tamara I believe her name was came in and offered me a haircut, i jumped up!! (Finally) Well she said she was going to go wash up Bc she just finished smoking! Thing was the cigarrette smell was STILL bothering me AFTER she washed up. But I sucked it up.. but this is what really got me.... 2. I wanted a shave .. guess what? This barber doesn't shave. She offered to send me to another barber which I felt like was unprofessional. But who am I? So I went, and the shave was okay! Not really worth the $40 that I paid. But thanks guys!! read more

I'm pretty particular when it comes to my barbers. I don't trust anyone to cut my hair so anytime I search for a new barber (I'm from Atlanta) I'm skeptical. I read the Yelp reviews and *most* of them were good but still. All you gotta do is get that *one* crappy barber and you're turned off for life. Fortunately, I got a guy named "Eddie". I waited about 20 minutes but he cut my hair in nearly 10. I have to say, I was a little concerned but about 25% of the way through, I thought to myself, "Heck, he got my cut right in less than 5 minutes where I've had a dozen barbers not get it in 30 minutes or more." I recommend Eddie and, from what I could tell, the other barbers were good, too. Out of the 5 barbers there, I watched them cut at least 1 each and they were all very friendly and did a fantastic job on everyone's head. Parking is just as they said, hit or miss, but I got lucky. Taking a risk on a new barber and finding one close to work? $20 is priceless. I will certainly go back and I suggest you give them a try if you're scouting. read more

I walked right in, got sat immediately, and got a great haircut for just $18. I even got a straight razor shave on the back of my neck. The best part: we spoke about 20 words the entire time. They were all very friendly, but there was no annoying chit-chat. He focused on my hair cut, cut it how I asked (scissors not clippers) and I was able to make it out of there in no time. Good place. They are quick and they get to walk ins pretty fast. Not very expensive, so I don't understand the two dollar signs. Always has European soccer on so if you are a fan that might be a plus. read more

This place is all business. It doesnt have that classic barbershop atmosphere, but, If you're looking for a great hair cut then look no further. This no frills barber shop gets you in and out in under 25 mins with a sharp looking cut. $20 for a cut plus tip is a few dollars higher than most but I dont mind when the quality is top notch. read more

Wish I could give this place less than one star. Went there twice thinking the previous bad haircut was because the barber was having an off day. The second haircut wasn't any better than the first. A few months later I made the mistake of going a 3rd time. There were no other customers and only one barber who seemed to be asleep in a chair. He looked up when I said hello and then put his head back down to sleep. There's no excuse for being that disrespectful. read more

A good place to get haircut in downtown SS but today the experience wasn't very pleasant...I was called my turn but then asked to get back to my seat and wait cuz someone else was actually in front of me..I have no idea there's someone else in front of me so I said maybe you guys can give out numbers or have a check in book cuz now it made me feel a little disorganized and that might help...then I sat down waiting and a guy literally stopped his work and came to me said " sir just let you know we are very well organized so just let you know". I def didn't expect he would stop his work and came after me saying those things to me in front of other customers and it made me feel like I did something wrong...first I was called my turn I didn't jump the queue...second I offered my suggestion and didn't mean to offend anybody...it's us both customers and owners together make the business successful...I will still return tho but I def would not choose that guy.... read more
