So disappointed with the food and service. Don't waste your money on cocktails at this place. We ordered 3 on our table. The mojito was served with rotten mint. We sent back. The replacement we got was terrible lemonade not mojito. The other 2 cocktails were few sips sitting at the bottom of the glass, no ice. Was supposed to have fresh basil. Just had some stems floating in the drink. The dishes were served haphazardly. They were serving what was ready whenever. Dishes were cold. Below average dish quality and taste. We asked to talk to the manager who never showed up. Don't waste your time and money here. Huge disappointment. read more

Love it! I can't wait to go back and try other things. We ordered a side of palata (which was by far the best item) I loved that they served it with a bowl of sugar--it tasted just like funnel cake! The Pad Thai was amazing--I wouldn't have changed anything about it. Pea Leaf tofu, was not appealing. I just didn't like the flavors or the way the tofu was prepared (crispy on the outside, but extremely soft and watery on the inside). However, I still give this place 5 stars because of the hospitality and overall dining experience. We came in at peak dining time on Saturday night and were seated immediately at the bar. The bar tenders were extremely helpful and friendly the whole time. My friend had a drink from the "upcoming" drinks menu--it was called swamageddon or something, and it basically had cucumber, jalapenos, mint, and vodka. I had a sip and it was delicious. I unfortunately ordered a virgin banana daquiri and did not care for it at all. The place is clean--the bathroom ACTUALLY smelled nice. When does that ever happen??!! Ever since I moved to the bay area and had my first bite of the wonderful food at Burma Superstar, I kept wondering why they didn't bring those exquisite flavors down to the south bay so the rest of us techie schmucks could enjoy them. Sure there were sad attempts to satiate us with sub-par knock offs, but they never lasted longer than six months. Enter, Rangoon Ruby! This place knocks it out of the park and competes pretty well with B*S. Ambiance: With it's well-appointed interior and white table decor and waitstaff, it serves the area as both an upscale restaurant (for dates, business meetings, etc.) and a casual restaurant you can share with friends and have fun. Service: Excellent. Period. The waiters are friendly and very attentive. As soon as my water went down past halfway, someone came over and refilled it. I'll give you another example. Unfortunately there was a hair in one of our items, which I can't blame them about because it's inevitable in every kitchen. The part that impressed me was that when we told the waiter, he immediately brought the manager over and asked if we'd like a new one or they could comp it. When we asked for a new one (because it was the start of our meal), they brought new plates/silverware and rice. That's how I'd handle it if it I were the manager, but you just don't see that kind of service very often. Food: Awesome. It's all slightly less spicy than B*S, but still has great flavor and a little kick. The tea leaf salad, samusa soup and minted jalapeno chicken are a must. The salad is every bit as good as B*S; though it could use another lemon piece squeezed on it to mitigate the bitterness of the fermented tea leaves. The soup is great ... there's just not as much as B*S :-(. And the minted jalapeno chicken is so tasty that you keep wanting more. We also had some fiery tofu vegetables that were very good. Wow, this place fills up quickly. Reservations are definitely recommended unless you want to have a rushed dinner. This place is about the presentation, let me tell ya! We were a table of 2 gals trying to catch up so we went family style and shared 2 entrees. Garlic noodles with tofu: GOOD Sesame beef: GOOD Any of the specialty drinks GOOD (well, they looked good at least) Everything on the menu sounded tasty. The entree portions are about enough for 2-3 people that are moderately to slightly hungry. The service is great and the restaurant is near some parking lots and street parking. You might miss this place if you're walking by and not paying attention, but it is definitely worth the time to make a reservation. read more

This little gem off of University Ave is a nice break from the generic American restaurants littering Palo Alto. Food: Everything we ordered was pretty good and came out fast; Sesame Beef was the best, Eggplant Curry was decent but not super flavorful, Mango Chicken was tasty but overflowing w/ onion, and Noodle Soup was average. Service: Our waiter was awesome, super friendly and attentive. He even surprised my sister with ice cream with a sparkly candle since it was her going away party. My friend made reservations at this place for dinner. We got here on time (SCORE!) and were seated promptly. It got crowded just as we sat down- so yay for avoiding the rush. We order this insanely awesomely good salad- Somasa salad. We ate, we laughed and waited for our main course. My friend ordered the "Eggplant Curry" (which she described as "meh" and my other friend and I split the "Jalapeno Chicken" (which was good!) with a side of white rice. We started eating, laughing and enjoying our food. My friend offers me some of the Eggplant dish- i took a small spoonful and continued stuffing food into my mouth. We girls at the table are slow eaters and major talkers- so we were basically taking our time. During the middle of the meal my friend grabs the spoon and is about to pour herself some more eggplant curry when BAM A HAIR STRAND COMES OUT! Vomit vomit vomit vomit. It completely threw out our appetite and made all 3 of us feel sick. I immediately got cautious of our chicken dish (that we already had a lot of). We started spooning the chicken piece by piece to make sure there wasn't any hair in the food. To top it off, they were bit sticklers about taking the eggplant curry off the bill-our waitress had to "check with the manager". Ummm, I have NEVER been to a place where they charge you for the dish that has HAIR IN IT! Anyway, maybe ill visit this place again- since I did like my chicken! But not anytime soon- until next time kiddos- TIE YOUR HAIR! UPDATE: So, i took the plunge and brought a friend here the other day. I have to say they made up for their mistake. The food was good. The best thing on the menu is their somasa salad- GET IT! Lunch portions were awesome. It was a bit pricey though. Came here by chance since Evvia across the street had a 1.5 hour wait. What a great discovery! Everything we tried was wonderful. We had family style: Palata, Chicken Salad, Basil Beef, Village Catfish, Garlic Noodle and Pea shoot. Some highlights: Palata: Similar to Roti Prata, nice and crispy with tasty curry dip. Burmese Chicken Salad: One of my friends hates vegetables, but he had many helpings of this salad and even finished the plate Garlic Noodle with Roast Duck: For those who know Singapore food.. this is like Mee Pok Dah!!! Absolutely delicious. I wonder where they find the Mee Pok from. Pea shoots: sweet and tasty. I've been here on multiple occasions and the food has been exceptional every time. Make reservations because this place gets CROWDED. The best way that I can describe Burmese food is a hybrid between Indian and Chinese. As with most ethnic restaurants there is something for meat eaters and vegetarians/vegans alike. To review things dish by dish: * Tea leaf salad - I'm allergic to nuts, seeds, and sesame so what Rangoon always does is to bring out all the ingredients on the side so that I can have my salad with the seasoning (fish free) and then once I take my portion the server will mix all the ingredients together for the rest of my allergy-free party. * Garlic noodles - These are a hit or miss and unfortunately they recently started using egg noodles so I can no longer have these :( * Home style fried rice - Seriously this is probably one of the BEST RICE DISHES I've ever had. It's Jasmine rice, yellow beans, and fried onions. Simply amazing flavor. * Mixed vegetable curry - As a vegan this dish is amazing...yellow beans, potatoes, lentil, tofu, okra...pretty much all my favorite dishes in one place. Service is pretty solid here - I personally prefer this place to Burma Superstar but both places excel at Burmese food and have comparable dishes. read more

Very impressed! We got the coconut juice (pictured) which was perfectly refreshing. Then on to the palatas which were great- very hot and delicious, the chicken curry sauce had generous amounts of chicken in it. Then we had the tea leaf salad which was flavorful and delicious- the "dried shrimp" is actually a shrimp flavored powder, so we included that. Finally, we had the basil chili beef with coconut rice as recommended on here. The coconut rice was perfect with a touch of sweetness, and the beef was spicy but not overly so, and almost reminded me of Korean BBQ. All that was plenty of food for two of us (we were quite full) and while it wasn't cheap, it didn't break the bank like other local overhyped restaurants (cough cough...Tamarine). The service was also very good, bordering on being overly attentive, but that's the way I'd prefer they err. Highly recommend, one of the best restaurants in the area. read more

Nestled in downtown Palo Alto, Rangoon Ruby offers a unique Burmese cuisine for its customers. The restaurant offers a lovely atmosphere that gives off a laid back yet classy vibe. My party of four had a reservation, but we showed up a little earlier and were able to be seated with no problems. Their menu is very extensive, and there are plenty of options for vegetarians. To start off the meal, we ordered a couple of their appetizers: [1] The mango salad - we opted out of the dried shrimp that came with it. The salad consisted of shredded green mangoes, some lettuce, onions, cucumbers, fried garlic, and a fresh squeeze of lemon. The flavors and textures of the ingredients blended perfectly together, and that light but refreshing citrus flavor was the best way to work up our appetite to the heavier entrees later on. [2] Chicken palata - a multi-layered bread served with coconut chicken in a curry dip. The coconut flavor was very subtle, but the curry was still delicious. The slight crisp of the bread paired with the chicken was fantastic. Entrees we ordered included: [1] Garlic shrimp and eggplant - this was served in a sweet chili sauce and was a favorite for me. The sweet chili sauce was not overwhelming, and the eggplants and shrimps were sauteed to perfection. The eggplants had a great texture and weren't too mushy as many places mistakenly make them. Pair this with their coconut rice! [2] Lamb kebat - definitely thought this was going to be served in a curry sauce but that was our mistake. The lamb was tender and full of flavor. My boyfriend and I did think the lamb tasted more like goat but we thought it was still tasty nonetheless. Pair this with their Burmese Indian rice! The rice does have a little too many spices for my liking but definitely good with these types of entrees. [3] Nan Gyi Dok - another favorite of mine from our meal. These rice noodles are amazing with their coconut chicken sauce. The soft boiled eggs gave the sauce a thicker consistency once you mix all the ingredients together. You definitely get the coconut taste in this dish but it still does not overwhelm the tastebuds and still remains pretty light for the dish. The fried wontons gave the dish a slight crunch to top it all off. Highly recommend this one! Rangoon Ruby is a great place to grab some dinner. 3.5 stars. It's a toss up between 3 or 4... I think service tipped it just a bit. A friend was visiting from her little island and wanted to try this place out so we made it here on a Wednesday night at around 7:45PM. Our server was very accomodating, helpful, and attentitive. A friend of mine didn't know which beer to choose so he was kind enough to bring a little sampler for her to taste. He was also very knowledgable about the dishes here and gave us recs from each category. Oh, and he was patient as well! Palata appetizer: Bread with a coconut chicken curry dipping sauce. Yum! Reminds me of roti prata, but the bread was more dense. Great start. Tea Leaf Salad: A unique and traditional dish of Burma. All the different components were separated on the dish and our server "prepared" it at our table by squeezing lemon juice and then tossing the salad for us. Interesting to have the Burmese tea leaves, fried garlic, peanuts, sesame seeds, lettuce, tomato and dried shrimp all mixed together in this salad. Very yummy. I would recommend this! Garlic Noodle: This dish is pretty standard. Nothing amazing and not bad either. I think the addition of duck was a good choice :) Chicken Kebat: Flavorful dish and the chicken wasn't dry, which is always a bonus. However, a tad too salty for my liking. Basil Chili Beef: This was another solid dish, but it wasn't spicy at all. Good flavors. Garlic Shrimp and Eggplant: Probably one of my favorite dishes here. Shrimp wasn't overdone and I loved the eggplant in this dish. Nice and buttery. YUM! Fried Banana: I've had a better fried banana dish, but the restaurant was kind enough to give us two scoops of ice cream, mango and coconut, since we couldn't decide. Oh, and one of us was preggo so that helped our case a little bit too :) And of course I had to wash this all down with a Ehlers Cabernet Sauvignon '09. Very much a Cab out of the two options of the menu. I can't remember the other Cab by the wine list, but that one was more acidic and more akin to a Pinot Nior IMO. They only seat when everyone in the party is present. We made reservation but couple friends got stuck at work so didn't get a table until later. Tea leaf salad with dried shrimp was OK, could use more lettuce since it's a bit too salty and garlicky. Palata, the fried bread, looks and tastes just like Singaporean roti prata. Maybe Palata is the Burmese spelling of Prata. It was really good, crispy outside and not oily. The chicken curry dipping was too sweet however. The waitress recommended kebat and lemongrass dishes. We decided to get Mango Chicken and Lemongrass Pork. We like the meat texture; quite well cooked. The sauces were good but a little mild. Coconut rice had good flavor but was sweet. It's not supposed to be sweet, not other South East Asian versions at least. Garlic noodles had the perfect texture and strong seasoning. I think I would get the garnish on the side. It was too overpowering mixed in. Bottom line, it's 3.5 stars but rounded down due to its crowdedness and seating policy. read more

My wife and I attended Rangoon Ruby for an early dinner before some Bank of the West Classic tennis at Stanford. We had the palata with chicken curry, the coconut noodle soup (ohnoh kawt swe), and the beef kebat. The fried coconut pudding with mango ice cream was our dessert. The flaky palata was great and the curry went with it perfectly. The coconut soup was very tasty but the portion size was small for the price. While the flavor of the beef kebat was nice, the texture of the beef was quite chewy and I didn't really enjoy this dish. It seemed like a tenderized cheap cut of beef was used which was unexpected given the upscale feel (and prices). Dessert was interesting, but nothing spectacular. Service was very friendly and food was well paced. All and all an average experience. I don't think I'd come here that often given the price since food of a similar quality can be had in a much less upsacle dining environment for about 2/3 the price. read more

We've been to Rangoon Ruby more than 20 times in the past but not since COVID. We went the other night for dinner. It was okay but not as good as we remembered. The tea leaf salad was great as usual. The fried tofu was burnt. The egg and okra curry wasn't as good. The beef in the basil beef was a little tough. We also had the lychee martini and buddhas palm cocktails which were fine. The server didn't ask us how the meal was. Food from the kitchen was slow but we were mostly disappointed with the food itself. read more

I loved it here. I came here for my birthday. First of all, my friends kept canceling and rejoining on me, and I must have changed the reservation count at least 4 times. The Rangoon Ruby staff were very understanding about it. The food was delicious. Tea leaf salad, coconut rice, the cod, the chicken, the curry chicken appetizer thing... I can't wait to go back and devour everything. I had a party of 10, and our bill came out to around 300. Because my party size was so big, we had an order minimum and a 2 hour limit. That was reasonable to me. Parking can be a little difficult, but you can get lucky around the lots in the area. read more

Wow, Rangoon Ruby was awesome! Visiting my cousin and his wife during our recent west coast vacation, they highly recommended this place, which also happened to be conveniently located for us. RR was buzzing on a Friday night with an eclectic crowd, both young and old. Nice atmosphere, though the seating was a little cramped. You can't go wrong with much on the menu, but I would DEFINITELY say you must try the salads. They present all the fresh ingredients to you and mix it up table side as you watch, very cool! We went for the Tea Leaf Salad and Ruby Rainbow Salad. Yummm. Shrimp kebat, egg and okra curry and eggplant curry were my favorite main courses. No complaints whatsoever. I am on a mission to try all the Burmese restaurants I can find in the Bay Area and was excited to find that there is one as far south as Palo Alto. Burma Superstar is of course the yardstick against which I measure all other Burmese restaurants - say what you will about the wait, the food is magical - and this place definitely makes the cut. It helps that they head-hunted chefs from B.S. so a lot of the flavors are the same - in fact the samosa soup is identical. The main differences are the presentation and pricing. Rangoon Ruby is definitely fancier and more expensive, but what else would you expect from DTPA? What we had: Palata with coconut chicken - Who doesn't like fried bread with a savory dipping sauce? Delish. Samosa soup - A favorite and always tasty. Just enough spice to make it interesting. Chili Beef with Basil - This was a new one for me. The beef was thinly sliced and perfectly cooked and the flavors were a potent combination of chili, cumin and basil. Broccoli with Garlic - Another favorite. Always delicious and flavorful and a good veggie compliment to a meat dish. Overall, it was a good experience. The only drawback is that it was significantly more expensive than other Burmese restaurants in the area that serve the same type and quality of food. read more

Having been to Burma Superstar in SF, I feel I'm somewhat in touch with the hype around Burmese food. It's essentially a fusion of chinese and thai food with a few new seasonings and some different signature dishes. If you're not burmese like me, you likely feel compelled to get the tea leaf salad. Follow this instinct; if the salad is good, you'll leave very satisfied. We started with the tea leaf salad and followed up with a standard chicken dish and a standard beef dish. The tea leaf salad left a lot to be desired; quite wet, almost soggy. The chicken and beef dishes were good but not exceptional. The best component of the meal was probably the side dish of coconut rice. We got two of those! I usually don't care to comment on service, but the service I experienced was exceptionally awful and deserves a comment. Simply put, the staff is highly dependent on their in-house wireless communication devices to get their orders right. If the system isn't working, don't expect the waiter to be professional enough to remember you order and type it in later or deliver your food to the right table. Call me demanding, but at $30 a person, I kind of expect my waiter to be able to think on his feet. This place probably deserves 3 stars on the yelp scale, however the phrase "Meh. I've experienced better." (associated with a 2-star review) is the most accurate description. read more

The food here is way too SALTY and pretty pricey too. We tried the tea leaf salad, which in my opinion was just alright. I felt like the tea leaf was just a gimmick and the salad itself tasted like peanuts with salty added on. The other dishes were delish, but just way too salty. What can I say about this place? Def won the Stanford community already. Love/adore/crave the tea leaf salad there...must have...probably one of its signature dishes. Walnut shrimp to die for! Palata bread is pretty tasty. I also held a private dinner party here, and they are pretty accommodating when it comes to a party of 20 (although the restaurant is a bit small for that large of a party)....we took half the space of the restaurant's! But we were all in good hands. The owner (John) is fantastic and Rodel (banquet manager) and Daryl are pretty great too. This place is super busy- definitely make a reservation early for weekend dinners. Servers are nice and kept refilling our water throughout the night. Food had nice presentation and portion sizes are decent.I really liked the tea leaf salad-I haven't tried anything like it before. It was flavorful and had a nice crunch to it with the nuts. We also ordered the palata to share. I liked the flakiness of the palata and the chicken curry sauce was decent. I ordered the garlic noodles with roast duck, which seem to be highly rated on yelp. However, I felt that the noodles were underwhelming and and very salty. Coconut rice was yummy (I believe the rice is cooked in coconut milk)- you have to order it as a side for the entrees. I kept eating my bf's rice to supplement my salty garlic noodles. Food was a bit pricey (prepare to spend at least $20 here if you are splitting an appetizer and having an entree). In terms of ambiance this is definitely a 4. In terms of food quality this is more of a 3-3.5. Right when you walk through the door you know you are about to embark on a lovely romantic date. The room is dimly lit with overhead lights that just give you that lovely dovey feeling. The room seems small, but there are quite a few tables that are a good distance apart. When we got here around 8:30pm on Saturday the place was PACKED. When we asked initially how long the wait was the girl had said about 30-45 minutes. After after 5-10 minutes we asked how many people were ahead of us and she said that she could actually seat us in a few minutes! They were quick at taking our orders and bringing out our food. One dish we ordered came out just minutes after ordering it, steaming hot too! The food itself looked very delicious, but it was a lot more bland than I had imagined. The garlic noodle with barbecue pork was nothing extraordinary. I was expecting a burst of garlic flavor, but the noodles were actually really bland lacking in flavor. Thank goodness for the sweet and sour sauce that they brought out with it to give it some taste. It was not just the fact that it was lacking garlic, but it seemed like they did not season it at all. The barbecue pork was pretty much just the Chinese barbecue pork you get at restaurants. One highlight the noodles were the thick egg noodles, which I love, and they were super SOFT! The country style beef curry was a lot more flavorful. It reminded me of a Vietnamese beef stew (bo kho). Some pieces of beef were super soft and tender, others were a bit harder and chewier. The curry did have some flavor and spice, but I did feel like it was missing something, an extra pinch of spice to give it more pizazz. We ordered it with coconut rice on the side which was the highlight of the meal. The coconut rice had a subtle hint of coconut that was not overpowering. You could definitely eat it on its own without any of the curry sauce. Overall this was a cute date spot. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes that didn't pack too much flavor or we are just accustomed to different flavor profiles. This is the first place that I had Burmese food. This place is super popular so try to make a reservation. It's not huge inside but it can seat a good amount of people. Usually have had pretty good service here. Some items are mixed in front of you with the ingredients pointed out and described which is always a fun experience. This is a medium classy place so feel free to dress up or down. The only negative point I'll really make is that the food can be a tad bit on the saltier side. My favorite is the Nan Gyi Dok. This dish is rice noodles with coconut chicken sauce and other yummy toppings. I like that this dish is more mild in flavor but everything blends together very well. This is one of the dishes that they mix in front of you. The tea leaf salad is pretty good here, but definitely on the saltier side. They give a generous portion. You should get the coconut rice on the side. It's creamier than regular rice with a hint of coconut flavor. What a welcome addition to the busy Palo Alto restaurant scene! Quality Burmese food in generous portions at decent prices. I know it might be a little early, but I think I'm in love. Don't skip the palata to start. It's like a scallion pancake without the scallions, with a delicious curry dip. Soft, warm, and slightly flaky - all the qualities of a good flatbread. Tea leaf salad has a unique flavor but has a great crunch and good flavor combo overall. Highly recommended as well. It will make you feel slightly healthier as you eat it before digging into the rest of the dishes. Lemongrass chicken is also really delicious but honestly sort of tasted a little more like basil chicken than lemongrass. Even if you're trying to go low-carb, cheat a little here and don't skip out on the garlic noodles, which were great with duck strips. The main entrees don't come with rice either, so I recommend the coconut rice to supplement. It gets pretty packed in here (long waits outside even at 9:30p on a Friday, and always full even during the week), so make a reservation. Haven't tried the desserts yet, but am excited to soon. My work's thank you lunch was held here and it was great trying a new place in a group because I was able to try a lot of dishes all at once! Rangoon Ruby is not my favorite. I've had Burmese food before in SF and enjoyed it, but here, not very much. Dishes we ordered family style: Palata with coconut chicken Palata with coconut Vegetarian Tea Leaf Salad Country Style Beef Curry Mango Swai (fish) Pumpkin Pork Stew Fiery Tofu and Veggies Nan Gyi Dok - coconut chicken noodles Jasmine, Brown, coconut, and Indian Rice The appetizer dishes were better than the entrees for me. The PALATA was good, not sure I'd crave it in the future. I did enjoy the TEA LEAF SALAD. The MANGO SWAI (fish) plate was too sweet, and more than half of it was onions. The BEEF CURRY had a thin sauce that wasn't very flavorful and the beef wasn't as tender as I would have liked. FIERY TOFU and VEGGIES were one of the better dishes we ordered. The PUMPKIN PORK STEW wan't really a stew, it was pork and pumpkin cooked in broth that also didn't have much flavor. The NAN GYI DOK was okay, glad I tried it but wouldn't order again. COCONUT RICE was a last minute add and I was super excited (I love coconut rice!). This was the first time I had "sweet" coconut rice. Threw me off a little, I prefer the ones without sugar. Ordered: Palata, Garlic Noodle, Basil Chili Beef, Lamb Kebat, Nan Gyi Dok What to get: Basil Chili Beef, Nan Gyi Dok I've been to the one in Palo Alto and San Carlos. The service at both places are great. Apparently, Burma Ruby in Palo Alto has the same menu and when crowded, they direct extra customers there. I would wait for Rangoon Ruby. Heads up, the water has cucumber tones to it! I'm not a fan of cucumber, but it definitely alleviated the spiciness lingering on the tongue. Palata: great appetizer! fresh, warm, and flaky bread w/ curry. Nan Gyi Dok: it's quite an experience watching them bring out a dish neatly assembled, only to mix and mash it right in front of your face. The dish was quite refreshing since I never had something like it before. Basil Chili Beef: love this dish. The beef is tender and you do taste the primary components - basil and chili. Feel free to amp up how spicy you want it to be. Lamb Kebat - I think eating this in conjunction with the basil chili beef kind of made it just taste the same. At that point, everything was just spicy. I appreciated the basil of the beef more so. Garlic Noodle - seems to pop up on Yelp a lot so we ordered it. It's pretty... banal. You have your typical egg noodles with lots of oil. You do taste the garlic, but I think the oiliness of the dish kind of detracted from the somberness of garlic. Fried garlic with the duck in this dish would have been a nice addition. GET THE COCONUT RICE w/ your dishes. It complements the spicy ones really well. The environment looks modern and clean. I went there on a Wednesday night and it was pretty crowded and noisy. I really like tea leaf salad and the one here didn't disappoint. The food was fine but the customer service is severely lacking. My boyfriend and I had a reservation for 5:15pm on a Saturday. Although the restaurant was less than half full with patrons, it took the staff about 5 minutes to acknowledge us and seat us. Once we were seated, we waited for our server only to be told 5 minutes later to scan the QR code on the table and just order from there. Although we had questions about the menu, we couldn't get the attention of any of the staff to answer our questions so we made some guesses and ordered on my phone. This was somewhat difficult because we weren't given the restaurant's wifi info and the menu took a while to load on my phone. The staff did not speak with us or interact with us aside from them delivering food to our table and filling our water cups once. We ordered food and cocktails. Both of our $15+ cocktails were weak and subpar. The food was fine, but honestly wasn't anything special. The meal and experience definitely weren't worth the over $90 we paid. Me and the boo were exploring Stanford and the shopping center and we got hungry. So we yelped nearby restaurants and he's never tried Burmese before. I figured this would be a good place! We walked in, were seated immediately, and the servers were so friendly and accommodating! They put napkins on your lap for you! I've never ever seen that anywhere, and I have been to fancy restaurants like Keiko a Nob Hill in SF that cost $400 for two people. I was mind blown. We decided on a basil lamb dish and the tea leaf salad! I think we also got palatha with the dip. The food came out in less than 5 minutes! WOW! We loved every dish, it was so delicious! The basil lamb dish was so yummy, and lamb is the boyfriend's fave. Tea leaf salad is always my favorite. What's cool too is that the bathroom has a TV and free mouthwash for when you eat too much garlic. haha the owner also talked to us and he gave suggestions for next time! We will definitely come back. Highly recommend if you're in the Stanford area, however prices are a bit steep so only go occasionally unless you can afford it. read more

Tea leaf salad! Such a unique eating experience - lots of different flavors and textures in one salad. The minted chicken is another burmese favorite of mine. It's not as good at burma super star in sf, but that's the cream of the crop of burmese. I also enjoyed the garlic noodles and various beef and lamb dishes. read more

Starting with the food: Amazing! We got the fermented tea leaf salad, Shrimp Tikab, and Fiery Tofu + Brown rice. all amazing! Just a note, the fermented tea leaf salad is great, but it's more like a meal or something you want to share with the whole table, since it has nuts in it, it's heavier than your usual green salad. Couldn't be any happier! Apparently the two brother chefs from Burma SuperStars are working here now! I loved Burma Super star, besides that it's way too far from Palo Alto! But now i can have burmese food whenever I want :)! Service: Nice and friendly, we got to order very fast and they got our food to us very fast, getting the check took a little time, but nothing to complain. Atmosphere: Great! Last-minute decision to get Burmese food on a Saturday night - great move! We had to wait about 40 minutes without a reservation, but it was well worth it. The restaurant was still packed even when we left at 9:45 pm. I'd recommend the tea leaf salad to anyone, and I actually preferred Rangoon Ruby's version to Burma Superstar's in San Francisco. We also had the egg and okra curry and the pork curry. Portions were perfectly sized, and the service was pretty good considering how many people were there. The ambiance couldn't have been better, and even though the restaurant was so busy and we were sitting in one of the busiest parts, we still had a very calm and pleasant meal. Definitely worth trying this place if you think you might like Burmese food! Make a reservation if you're going to go at a busy time. read more

I just picked up food from here and am very disappointed with the food quality and quantity. The tea leaf salad prices at 14$ was so little portion compared to restaurant servings and ingredients lacked freshness. The worst part is we found couple of hair strands as well. I also ordered Rangoon noodles which was bland and cold and seemed on the verge of turning stale.
