Until the glorious incarnation of Randy's Pizza (first at a little strip mall spot in SW Durham), there was very little acceptable pizza in the Triangle (unless you were willing to journey to J&S in Apex, of course). Randy himself, with artisan skill and bold mullet, expertly made the pizzas and calzones. Now, the clear success of that first pizzeria has begotten many branches of the Randy's empire. They are generally all superior to any other local option I've encountered -- whether national chains, strip mall pizzerias, or fancypants pizza restaurants. The quality varies greatly, though, as you'd expect -- pizza is an art, and a lot depends on who is crafting it. A branch that is very good can be that way for years and then, after new staff, could become mediocre. And vice-versa, of course. The only constant is that if you happen to be at a branch when Randy himself shows up, it's going to be excellent. And also, I think, his son is out there somewhere at one of the branches, and he, too, has the gift. At the moment, of the Randy-less Randy's locations, this one, on Miami Blvd, in July 2026, is the current jewel of the crown. It's actually been quite good for several years now, even through different pizzaioli. A good sign. If you're in the Triangle, and it's 2026, head over to this Randy's and you won't be disappointed. It can usually hold its own amongst its brethren in Philly/Jersey/NY/Boston/Etc. (To be specific, Randy's house style is really more Pennsylvania than New York -- which is what I prefer -- with a thinner Pennsylvania crust rather than the heft of a NY crust). But, if you're around here in the Triangle, you probably know that already, and have probably eaten at a Randy's more than once -- heck, I'm not sure why anyone would read this review in the first place! read more

Since my family had a craving for pizza, I stopped here since was conveniently on my way. I ordered a 16 incher, half with sausage and mushrooms and the other half with tomato and bacon. The guy taking my order at the counter spoke very quietly and we had to go through the order two additional times. But I actually appreciate that because he wanted to make sure he got it right. The pizza took about 20 minutes to make and in the meantime, they let me have a small cup to grab a fountain drink. And they do offer a good variety of Coke products, plus sweet and unsweet tea. There is one unisex restroom, but fortunately, it was kept clean. I did have an issue that the paper towel dispenser was empty. As for the pizza, it was solid. Crust was NY style thin, crispy at the top with a little chew, and thankfully, no big air bubbles. Unfortunately, the undercarriage flopped straight down; in my opinion, there should be some crispiness on the bottom. Good quality sauce and cheese as well, and everything was well proportioned. Randy's is hands down my favorite lunch pizza spot in the Raleigh area especially if you know the move is showing up right around 12pm when the place is buzzing for a reason. The value is unbeatable: huge New York-style slices, affordable prices, and consistently solid quality. This is the kind of spot that understands what lunch pizza should be. The daily special slices are where Randy's really shines. The NY White is perfectly garlicky and creamy, the Don Vito is loaded with flavor, and the Meat Lovers slice is exactly what it sounds like. If you're looking for fancy, this isn't it but if you want big slices, great flavor, and a reliable go-to lunch spot, Randy's is elite. Amazing food, exceptional service and it was so nice to revisit. I live only miles down the road but never make it down S. Miami. Today, I changed that. Long ago, when we went to an office, I would meet my brother who worked next door at Lenovo. It was always the Chicken Parm sub! The place still feels the same and smells of great Italian food. I'm a local truck driver. I stopped in during my 30-minute lunch. I ordered a Phily Cheesesteak, fries, and a drink. I sat down waiting patiently for my order as they were busy, after waiting 20 minutes I went to check on my order and was told that it was coming out. I went to the counter and asked for a refund, the manager asked if I wanted another sandwich, I told him no because I don't have time to wait. I ordered 10 pizza pies for a company event, and I was happy that they had a selection of vegetarian pizzas, pizzas without pork or beef, and even pizzas without tomatoes. This made sure that I could meet everyone's dietary restrictions. I ordered the pizzas for 11:45 a.m., but they arrived at 11:00 a.m. That's a pretty big difference, and so the pizza was pretty cold by the time that lunch came around. Tonight, I arrived to pick up an order for a client. Standard procedure for any delivery driver is to confirm the order details before leaving the restaurant. I politely asked the employee at the register to place the bag on the counter so I could verify the ticket against my app. She refused. She would not place the order on the counter for me to confirm. There was no explanation, no attempt to help--just a flat refusal. When I persisted in my (perfectly reasonable) request, other staff members chimed in to defend her behavior and told me to just leave with the order without confirmation. Their solution was for me to potentially take the wrong order, jeopardizing my rating and my customer's meal, rather than simply placing the bag on the counter for five seconds. As an African American man, I am acutely aware of how I am treated differently in certain spaces. The outright refusal to perform a basic, standard part of the pickup process, combined with the staff ganging up to dismiss my concerns, felt targeted and unprofessional. I was not asking for special treatment; I was asking to do my job correctly. I ultimately had to leave without properly confirming the order, feeling disrespected and humiliated. I cannot recommend this pizza place, not because of the food, but because of the conduct of its staff. They created a hostile environment over a simple request. This usually gets us through several yummy, indulgent meals. The latest time, we decided to get half Kickin' Hawaiian and half Margarita. Such a good combo of sweet, salty, and refreshing. (We are only in Durham on the weekends and usually get pizza hut, but they are going downhill lately, so we shopped around for a new cost-effective pizza joint) We ordered two calzones, 6 garlic knots, and 6 mozzarella sticks, with marinara and ranch. The calzones were the best I've had, the dough was perfectly cooked, cheese was melted and tasted fresh, the pepperoni (we got substituted instead of ham) tasted like deli meat not just bland greasy fast food pizza pepperoni. The garlic knots were fantastic they could've used a little more garlic. However, the bread was perfect it was fresh and perfectly dense dough, cooked all the way through but still soft. It's definitely a fresh breath of air from Pizza Huts frozen mess. The mozzarella sticks however I give a 4 out of 10, could be my fault though because we ordered takeout instead of eating in but we didn't like them, they were to tough and a wee bit salty. I ordered the baked ziti, garlic knots and a small garden salad. What I received was a small caesar salad and boiled noodles with pizza sauce and cheese on the noodles. I called back to let them know the salad was not what I ordered and was not happy about the so called baked ziti. The store manager stated that the ziti was in fact boiled noodles with pizza sauce and cheese on top of the noodles. The sauce wasn't even blended into the noodles. If I would have known that I wouldn't have ordered what they called baked ziti. The store manager said I could bring the order back and they would replace it. I explained that I wasn't able to bring the order back because I was at work. He said I could get a store credit because they weren't going to send the driver back. Since I paid a delivery fee of $4.30 and I was literally just five minutes away I figured they would replace it and stated I would not be ordering from them in the future because they were supposed to give me fries from a previous order and didn't. Haven't been to Randy's since before the Pandemic occured. After today's experience, I have no reason to return. I ordered a Stromboli at 12:15pm. Asked for an update on my order at 12:40pm and was assured it would be coming soon. Asked for another update at 12:50 and was informed that my order was given to another person and that I would be given a refund and 2 slices of pepperoni as compensation. Asked for an update at 1pm on the 2 comp'd pepperoni slice and was told they would be out soon (as they continued to server other customers pepperoni slices).
