I am stunned by this doctor. I had gotten a referral from my primary for my psoriasis which had plagued me for several years. When I arrived for my appointment I had an hour wait - *I* showed up on time - but hey, as long as I'm seen and get fixed it's worth it, right? When Jacobs comes in he has an intern with him, gives me a quick scratch test and proceeds to tell the intern how it's not psoriasis and to be on guard for "web diagnosis". All like I'm not sitting right there. Okay, a bit annoying, especially since it wasn't me but my doctor - unless he's suggesting my doctor gives out referrals based on web diagnoses. But hey, I need relief so as long as it gets fixed it's worth it right? He then prescribes a bunch of meds and an allergy test which don't help and come back negative, respectively. On my next visit he simply tells me to use mild soap and shave with conditioner...end of visit. As I exit the receptionist asks if I need to make another appointment to which I replied, "I don't know...," and looked back at the good doctor who's already heading to another room, "I guess not." I assumed that since he didn't say he wanted me to come back, he felt he was "done". However what surprises me most is not the long wait, poor doctoring, or dismissal. What surprises me is the length this doctor will go to defend/refute reviews here. Typically, when I have a bad experience I like to look up said bad experience online to see if it's just me. Maybe you can chalk my complaints down to a disgruntled patient but Dr. Jacobs' character/ethics is easily discerned by: 1. How he discusses one negative reviewer's case, using her name, freely online. Seems like a breach of confidentiality to me. 2. His "extensive reviews" to find - and possibly out or imply that it's a phony review? - negative reviewers based on their Yelp log ins. 3. How he writes a rebuttal to one review giving himself 5 stars in the process. Really, Randy? 4. His apparent solicitation/praise of positive reviews and bemoaning of the fact that said reviews are restricted to the Filtered section of Yelp. 5. His latest commentary on negative reviews encouraging people to visit the filtered area. I have to give him more one star because I did learn that I have no allergies. But yes, on one thing I do agree with Randy - check out all the reviews. I wish I had. Factoring them all in, I would have selected a different office, one that isn't quite so...contentious. read more

Problem is the long wait times...had an appointment for 3:15 and did not get out of the office until 5:45 office staff was ok and the office is clean and professional, but really, if you have an appointment it should not take 2 1/2 hours to be done. Funny how the staff only writes to the people that have good reviews of Jacobs. I think a couple of the "fantastic" reviews were fake canned reviews. Something that people are paying others to do for them. I want my face fixed and the scar revised. Not using real name, but willing to. Do not go to Sun city office .Its an old run down building with very rude and disorganized office staff. They scheduled my appt and even called to remind me but when I got there they had no record of my referral. Even after I got my dr to call and verify it over the phone to them I still had to wait for the fax to come through. I arrived at 1 pm for a 115 appt and was still sitting in The waiting room at 2pm.. The only reason why I'm giving them a two star is because the front office has worst customer service in the front there was no welcoming in the front when I walked in for my first time appointment and seem like they were in a hurry to get me in because called to see if they had anything earlier. The doctor was awesome and explained everything and very professional but on the other hand the frontline needs to be more compassionate and understanding. Plus I called back to is if they can send a I pre-authorization to my insurance and one of the front lady was very adamant that saying that my insurance will not cover it but I asked her if she can still send in and then she hung up on me and very rude. DO NOT GO HERE. WORST DOCTORS EXPERIENCE EVER. Rushed, no bedside manner and RUDE (purposefully overbooks to fill waiting room and doesn't care who stays or leaves, appointment time means nothing) I made my appointment a month in advance which Was the only normal thing about this. I arrived on time for my 10:15AM appointment and filled out paperwork. I then sat for an HOUR AND A HALF and watched three people cancel due to the wait time. I have waited a while for doctors before but after not a single patient was seen in that time I had doubts. Finally they called in two others and then me and I was ready to give him a chance. In the room at 11:45, 10 minutes in the waiting room and he barges in with some female helper and HERE IS WHERE YOU NEED TO TAKE A LESSON DR JACOBS. BEDSIDE MANNER: did not introduce himself or his female helper. Did not acknowledge the time I had to sit and wait. Asked the same questions his nurse had asked before he came in then diagnosed me immediately. He was rushing the entire time and very rude about it telling me important things about my medications so fast then asking "ok anything else?" As if he wanted to run out of there. THEN he asked me to show my legs and I had to ask who his helper was because the whole situation made me very uncomfortable. When I asked the quickly introduced her but not what she was doing there and introduced himself then barely glanced at my legs and said it was the same thing. On top of all this HE BARELY LOOKED AT ME IN THE EYES AND ONLY TALKED TO HIS HELPER. I felt like a fucking lab rat he had seen a million times. I waited almost 2 hours and in all he spent maybe 5 minutes in the room with me then gave me papers and rushed out. I thought I had to wait for a nurse and one came asking if I had seen him yet and if the room was free and I said I thought I was waiting for you since he didn't say anything normal docs say like "make a follow up" or "talk to the receptionist now". This nurse was very kind and actually explained my condition BETTER THAN DR JACOBS and I feel bad she has to work with this hack. BE WARNED I would give zero stars if I could read more

I was a new patient to this office. My appt was with Dr. Kenneth Alpern. I was very pleased to find out how friendly and willing to share knowledge he is. I have been to very many doctors for so many different things..and I wanna say I felt like a patient not a billing prospect. I highly recommended Dr. Alpern for your dermatological needs. read more

I had a great experience here. The Female PA was super nice and concerned for my skin health, she really tried to help me with the medications she was going to perscribe. The medications were great! This doctor really clued me in to what it means when you hear "practicing medicine". Actually, he's not practicing, he's faking it. Quite honestly, I don't know if he's incompetent, lazy, or both. I go in with a moderate to moderate/severe rash, acne, and inflamed skin that I'd been dealing with for over a year. This "doctor" tells me I've got dry skin due to allergies and puts me on some super antihistamine + antibiotic (for acne) and has me take an allergy test. He also pushes his joke of a "book" on me which recommends using heavy cream to moisturize. And guess what? The only cream it recommends by name is the one he makes and sells at his office...oh no, no conflict of interest there, right? So a month later, having taken the drugs religiously, I go back having gotten no relief. Dr. Jacobs says, "Well just use a humidifier."...and THAT'S IT. Wow, that's what they give out degrees for these days? This doctor's medical license is literally not worth the paper it's printed on. And get this, I later talked to a nurse from my primary physician who laughed dismissively when I mentioned Mr. Jacobs' name. Apparently her office had gotten other complaints about this guy. Save your co-pay - he's not worth it. Update: To Dr. Jacobs' remark, " I am a board certified dermatologist and have taken care of thousands of patients with dry and sensitive skin." I am sure certifications and degrees were awarded to the doctor(s) who: In 2000 left a metal retractor in a patient's abdomen in Seattle. Operated on the wrong side of a patient's head at Rhode Island Hospital in November 2007. Amputated the wrong leg in Florida in 1995. Bypassed the wrong artery in actor Dana Carvey's heart operation. Next - I find it remarkably coincidental that less than a week after Dr. Jacobs logs on and responds to the negative reviews, a person creates an account and, on his very first and only review, writes glowingly of the this doctor. read more

Had an appiontment at 10am. I arived 30 minutes early, they took my copay and had me fill out paperwork while I waited. 10:15 came around and patients around me started complaining because they had appointments at 9, 9:15, 9:45 and none of them were brought back yet. Then the receptionist told a patient that the Dermatologist wasn't even in yet! I was about to walk out then we can see Dr. Jacobs walk into the back office. He looked hungover and ungroomed. I got pulled into the back office 30minutes after my appoinment time only to see the hazardous material box overflowing with needles and blood on the floor. I walked out depspite staff trying to stop me and i got my co-pay back and left. Please find another Dermatologist who at least runs their practice with a little professionalism and cleanliness! read more

Both my sons have seen Dr. Jacobs for acne, and he is not only very knowledge but very sensitive and kind which made them feel quite comfortable. One son used Acutane and had fantastic results. My other son was unable to use Acutane due to Crohn's Disease, so he is using medication and receiving laser treatments. Dr. Jacobs gave us an AMAZING price for the laser treatments.....the absolute best in the area!!!! I am so grateful to Dr. Jacobs for all he has done for my kids, and I highly recommend him!!!! read more

Before I saw Dr. Jacobs I looked up his education background and how long he has been in practice. Very good. I have seen him twice and he has been able to treat me quickly and professionally. He gave me explanation and instruction on what I needed to do to clear up my problem. He did give me free samples and gave me a free treatment too, I appreciated that very much. Doctors are on a time schedule and can't visit with every patient like you would over coffee, or the waiting for everyone else he has to see would be increased. My time is worth a lot to me too, and I just want to talk about the problem, what I need to do, medications to take and be on my way. Dr. Jacobs was very nice and I"m happy to find someone who knows his specialty and is able to quickly diagnose, treat, and get me on my way. My skin problems are gone now. It takes doctor and patient to communicate well and work together in resolving your medical issues. I would and have recommended him to a close family member. read more

Randy Jacobs M.D. Is the only dermatologist in the I.E. that I would consider with my skin history. He was both considerate and caring which is what I look for in a doctor. When I first saw him it was for a scab on my scalp that would not heal. For a long time I thought it was psoriasis. He skillfully removed the bump and sent it for analysis. It was discovered to be basal cell carcinoma a slow growing skin cancer. Now a few years later I find my self in need of facial rejuvenation. There is no other dermatologist that I would trust with my face. Dr. Jacobs is the best choice ever read more

This review is of Dr. Randy Jacobs. First off, yes there is a wait..both for an appt and usually at the office. I don't care. He's worth it!! About every 4 years, I develop a rash around the bottom sides of my nose and mouth. It's usually a little dry, a little itchy, but always red and noticeable. I feel like a leper! I have seen Dr. Jacobs 3, maybe 4 times. Originally my primary care doctor tried to fix it with different ointments..some with cortizone, some with steroids..and nothing helped. He finally referred me to Dr. Jacobs who nailed the diagnosis immediately: Peri-oral dermatitis. Unfortunately, it requires a long-term antibitoic (daily, for 3-6 months). The first time, I tolerated it well and took it about 3 or 4 months to make sure it was gone. The second or third time I had to take it, my body (specifically my stomach) started rejecting it, literally, within 10 minutes of swallowing it. Luckily, the rash was mostly gone and didn't come back. This last appt was recent, in late November. I couldn't remember what it was called, but he knew it immediately, again, and after hearing I didnt tolerate the antibiotic very well, he offered a different antibiotic that is more easily tolerated. Additionally, he was concerned enough about me and my wallet that he placed the prescription with a mail order pharmacy, so it wouldn't cost me as much. I appreciate all the time and effort and late nights (and hell) that he went through to get thru school so he could be a benefit to others! He definitely knows his stuff, and I would be pretty upset if my insurance didn't work with him! Fortunately for me, each of the companies I had at the time did. Looking forward to having a fresh face again! PS-my new PCP said it was roseacea. I knew that wasn't right, and tried to tell him, but he gave me a patronizing, implied, "Oh okay, whatever you say, because you are smarter than I am and I'm not going to waste any more time on you" and then waved his hand as if to shoo me away. Guess what, doctor? You were wrong! Thank you, Dr. Jacobs, for being smarter than he was! read more

In fairnesss, Dr. Jacobs called me to apologize for the terrible treatment I received from his partner, Dr. Alpern. He made the usual excuses for the long wait and suggested I come to see him or the PA and make my appointment time the first in the a.m. I told him the wait for first appointment was months and we can't all have a first appointment or wait that long. He needs to stop overbooking. I thanked him for the call but said Dr. Alpern was the person who should apologize. I also told him I thought he should refund my copapy. It was only $5.00 but it was the principle. I won't be going back to this office. In spite of protests to the contrary, they don't care about the patients or they would respect their time. Dr. Alpern misdiagnosed a cancerous lesion, was rude and unprofessional. He asked that I not return and I am going to honor his request. As to Dr. Jacobs statement that some people come in angry, that may be true but it does not adress the real problem of the long wait times and poor diagnostics. It is also true that if YOU were to come in over 1 hour late for your appointment, you would have to reschedule and probably be charged for the visit. read more

He is incredibly kind and professional. I got shingles at the age of 22. After going to three doctors, he was the first one to correctly diagnose me. My face was badly scarred from the illness. He gave me treatments to improve the scarring. I didn't have insurance. He gave me treatments at a more then reasonable price. Now my face has completely improved. Don't even know where to begin. The office staff are the most incompetent clerks, for lack of a more appropriate term, I've ever had to deal with. Dr. Jacobs and his medical team are great. As a fellow Trojan, I know he is well respected in his field. However, he really needs to do something about the rest of his office. I had to wait over 30 days for an appointment only to find out a few minutes before my appointment that they didn't have my referral and that I couldn't be seen without it. This was on a Saturday morning at the Sun City office. And all the clerk could say was "well I can't see you without it." I let her know NO ONE ever informed me that they didn't have my referral and that I couldn't be seen without it. You would think a competent administrator would let his or her staff know that they need to be considerate of their patients' valuable time. I planned my Saturday and weekend around this appointment. For what? For some clerk to tell me that "I can't see you without it!" Well for starters, I wasn't there to see you. Unless you happen to be a dermatologist in your spare time. Anyhow, needless to say, won't ever be making another appointment with Dr. Jacobs. I have a daughter that is treated there but that will stop as of today. As for me, I will be seeking treatment somewhere else. I know that Dr. Jacobs doesn't need more business; but it's more than that. His incompetent administration and staff are impacting his reputation significantly. All I can say is, changes need to be made in his office. read more

I've been going to this office for almost a year now. Never have I ONCE gotten in in less than an hour after my appointment time, and this was to see the PA, Charity Morris (whom I must say is excellent). Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting the actual doctor for the first time. Not only did I get in 2 1/2 hours after my appointment time, the doctor never looked at my chart, asked what I was there for even though I was an established patient, and spent less than 60 seconds in the room with me. If it weren't for my insurance coverage and Ms. Morris, I would NEVER step foot in this place again. If you value your time, look elsewhere. read more

We had a bad experience here. Made appointment and took my daughter in, waited hour and half, couldn't wait any longer, had seen a assistant, she asked a few questions then sent a prescription to Walmart, not even five minutes we out of office. When we got to the pharmacy, we were told the creme will cost about $500, and no gguarantee it will work. We just felt that we were treated as a number, not as a patient. From the warm friendly greeting at the door to the follow up phone call I received, Dr. Jacobs and his team were professional, courteous, and most importantly helped to solve my adult acne I've been fighting for the last 5 years of my life. Dr. Jacobs took the time to listen to my symptoms to get to the root of the problem. I read another posting about staff falling behind. I must say that I would rather have a physician run late because he is spending time with patients than a more typical approach of a turn and burn philosophy to increase profits. In fact, I was prescribed a face wash that my insurance refused to cover (go figure - my pharmacy quoted approximately $400 without insurance) and somehow Dr. Jacob's team was able to work a miracle and have it shipped directly to my house. I didn't pay a penny for it. THAT is how much they care and will go out of their way for you. This is only my second review ever on Yelp. I am guilty of always thinking someone else will write a review because I am too busy to write one. Honestly, I think most people use Yelp as a complaint forum but it shouldn't be. I wrote a review two years ago after my first visit. I gave a 4 star based on my experience. After going in with my husband and sister to their appts I have to drop my review to 3 stars based on the wait time. We had 3 appointments where we weren't seen until a least an hour after the scheduled time. I understand that appointments can take longer than anticipated but we even scheduled an appointment for the earliest in the day available and they still didn't see us until an hour late. This is unacceptable in my opinion. All else went well however. The doctor and the PA were kind and patient and deserve a 5 star but the scheduling deserve a 1 star bringing us to a 3 star average I would like to give it another try but 3 (might have even been 4) was plenty to see that the practice does not value their patients time. If you have all the time in the world I recommend this doctor. If time is a factor you may want to look elsewhere. Or at least plan on being there for a few hours. read more
