They then scheduled me to see Dr. Thiele for a pre-op appointment and also to perform the surgery. He had an excellent bedside manner and I felt that he was very thorough and also compassionate and kind. It is not the most pleasant experience to be sitting there while you know that they are cutting your leg open, even if it doesn't hurt. He was very good at talking to me and distracting me during the whole experience. I also liked his Physicians Assistant and the other support staff that worked with me. Melanoma is especially scary since it is so deadly. Having a kind and intelligent doctor really helps. It does seem to be a rare combination, so when you actually witness it first-hand it is truly awesome. :) Also, I might add that so far my incision looks BEAUTIFUL. * one little recommendation for the support staff though. It would be awesome to have some kind of patient education materials to give those being diagnosed with melanoma. This would include diagnosis information as well as surgical after-care instructions.

Disrespectful, Unprofessional, and Racially Insensitive…read more I waited THREE MONTHS for this appointment after my PCP referred me for ongoing skin issues, only to leave feeling disrespected, racially stereotyped, and completely dismissed. To make matters worse, my appointment confirmation had the WRONG address, forcing me to rush across town to the correct office. Once I finally saw the doctor, I explained my skin breakouts, showed him pictures since they come and go, and answered his questions. Instead of focusing on the reason for my visit, he turned the appointment into an unsolicited lecture about my hair. After I explained that I have severe anemia, he questioned whether I was a nurse and proceeded to make generalized comments about "African American kind of people" wearing tight hairstyles that damage their hair. He told me to stop wearing braids, even after I repeatedly corrected him that I have LOCS. He even asked whether it was my hair or someone else's! He continued making comments about Black people and our hairstyles, suggesting we come crying to doctors years later when our hair falls out. I finally had to ask him what any of this had to do with the skin breakouts on MY ARM that I was actually there to have evaluated. When I told him I didn't need unsolicited hair advice, he became defensive and insisted that, as a doctor, he had the right to tell me whatever he wanted. Being a doctor does not give you the right to disrespect patients, dismiss their boundaries, or make racially insensitive generalizations. His 40 years of experience mean very little when he cannot demonstrate basic respect or listen to the patient sitting in front of him. Thankfully, the medical assistant and resident repeatedly redirected the conversation to my actual concerns. The doctor eventually ordered tests but did not adequately explain what they were for or how they related to my symptoms. I waited three months for medical care and spent much of my appointment defending my hairstyle against racial stereotypes instead of receiving the attention my skin concerns deserved. I left feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and discriminated against. I will NOT be returning to this doctor. Based on my experience, his behavior was racist, his bedside manner was unacceptable, and I did not feel heard or properly cared for. I strongly encourage anyone seeking a dermatologist to look for someone who treats patients with dignity, explains their medical decisions, and addresses their concerns without racial stereotyping. A medical degree and 40 years of experience do not excuse this kind of behavior.

After becoming an attorney the condition worsened with the stress of my job and it was always embarrassing to stand in court with a bright red nose. I went to several dermatologists and usually the ointments just irritated the condition and made it worse. Dr. Leslie Radentz is the only doctor to give me not only hope but almost total correction with her treatments. I have been a regular patient for 15 years now and I am so grateful for her help with my condition. I still have the stress of my very demanding practice but I don't have the embarrassment of a red nose anymore to make that stress even worse. One of the treatments that she provides me on a regular basis is an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment. I get the treatments about every 3 months. Not only does it keep my rosacea under control but it makes my skin look like a teenager. She also prescribes a lo percent retina ointment, an emolient creme and a super sunscreen. This regime works perfect for me and I am writing this to let everyone know that there is hope in controlling your rosacea if you see Dr. Radentz.
