Russ was an amazing help to us. We were driving from Texas back home to Florida (my 6 kids and pregnant wife) in our e350. As we made the trek from I20 towards I10 our powertrain light and then check engine light came on. We stopped at Autozone and got it checked...which led to me calling Russ at Ranco Transmission upon a recommendation from one of the workers there. Russ was a lifesaver. He treated as if we were his family in that situation. He carefully listened to the symptoms and issues, carefully worked through what the problem could be and tried to give us the best advice he could in our situation. His racks were full of vehicles being worked on at the moment, but he ended up having us come to his shop anyway. He outfitted us with one of his professional OBD readers so that we could monitor the transmission temps while we drove all the way home.... and if necessary clear codes to keep it from staying in "limp" mode (after having, of course, verified with the details of our situation that he thought it was safe to do so to "get us home"). He got us on the road, and then called a couple hours later at closing time to see how we were making out. Given how things had functioned he encouraged us with his expert experience that things seemed good to make the rest of the trip. We drove through the night and made it safely back home. He called again the next day to make sure that we had indeed made the rest of the trip safely. He did all of this without billing us anything and trusting us to mail him back his OBD reader when convenient! (Yes, I did mail it back.) Russ and Ranco Transmission were indeed good Samaritans to us. They helped us out in our time of need with their expert wisdom and guidance in our cross country travels. If I lived in the area they would definitely be our recommendation to all our family, extended family, and church family for transmission or other automotive work. Ten stars. Used them to put a new transmission in. After a year and a half, took it back because of some issue with the transmission while under warranty. They said no issues. It stripped a gear. It was just outside the warranty and they tell me I need a new transmission. This is kind of fishy. My wife went to pick up the truck because we decided to wait till my son finished school to put one in. The person working was rude and barely gave my wife the key. Told her the truck was in the back and she discovered it was in the mud. They apparently found it funny to send her back there to get it instead of bringing the truck out where she can get into it. Not good business practice and makes them less trustworthy on this issue. I plan on having the transmission rebuilt or getting a new one. I will not be using Ranco. Customer service and trustworthiness goes a long way. If this is a single employee doing this, I suggest the owner or supervisor put him through training. read more

Called about trans service on my 71 GTO Judge Replica and was given an appointment in 3 weeks at 8:00 am. Arrived on the specified date at 8 am. The dirt parking lot in front of the business was covered in old cars and trucks sitting in potholes full of water. Had to park next door. Went in and was told I would need to leave my car outside all day and they would try to work it in late in the afternoon. I asked if I could bring the car back later today and he said sure. I asked what time and he said "Next Monday." We had uncivil words and I left, NEVER to return. read more

I brought my '98 Dodge van in for service. They ran several complete checks on the transmission, and the linkage, but found nothing out of the ordinary. For all that work, they charged me ZERO DOLLARS! That's what earns them a Five Star Review. read more

Wonderful service. They checked my rear main oil seal, which the dealership told me was leaking, and found out the seal was good and the oil leak was coming from the upper side of the engine. They did not charge me one penny for their time and expertise. read more

Will say the most honest transmission shop in Mississippi, great service and quality work. Also reasonable rates, they don't overcharge your for parts not needed like many shops. Communication was terrible. They never called me on their own, even though I left my phone number with the vehicle and explicit instructions to call. When I called after two weeks, no one could tell me what the diagnosis of my vehicle was, and weren't even aware if it was in the lot or not. I was quoted a different price twice over the phone, and charged a third amount when I went to pick it up. To top it all off, although they fixed a mechanical issue with my transmission linkage, they neglected to fill or check the fluid levels. This caused the transmission to overheat and seize up after driving about ten miles completely destroying it and rendering the vehicle useless with massive damage. I assess them as mechanically knowledgeable but careless and unprofessional with terrible communication standards. read more
