I used Christopher Ranallo for a plumbing job after he said it would take 1 hour. It ended up taking him 2 hours and he didn't provide me with a quote before hand. My mistake for not asking him ahead of time, but I've worked with many plumbers and did not expect anything unreasonable. Christopher charges $250 an hour, plus parts! He never sent me an itemized bill until I started asking questions. He charges more than double what most plumbers charge. I've used more friendly plumbers at a better price so I would not recommend him. read more

I hired Ranello Plumbing twice. On the first job Adam did great and charged me VERY reasonably for fixing a leak in a shower (under $200). The second time around Chris did the work. He fixed two leaky toilet tanks, however on first use a hose came loose which wasn't properly attached, no big deal. However the charge for this job was high (over $600) and for less than that I could have just had the toilets replaced. I am left with working toilets, but the toilet seat screws are completely rusted out which I hadn't noticed and the also the toilet seat supports are missing (shattered). It was in a rental unit. A good plumber would've suggested to just replace the commodes entirely and not fix it the expensive way. Not a happy camper. read more

We had a clogged bathroom drain due to air conditioning. The person that came got the job done. We had him also replace a bathroom faucet. It took a total of about 2.5 hours for both of these jobs and we were charged $717. Because we did not have a price we agreed upon, we went ahead and paid it. Had a valve that controlled cold water entering my water heater snap clean off so I called Ranallo. Chris, a certified master plumber, was able to make it to my home. Along with his plumber, Adam, they came , replaced the pipe, the valve, adjusted my draft diverter and reignited my heater in just under an hour. Professional, sharp, and a very fair price. Not a good day when you awaken to 1/4" of water in your kitchen and living room. The cats who typically sleep on the sofa were clinging to the top of the back (claws digging into leather) as though it was an ark, their eyes the size of dinner plates. After a quick pet rescue, I knew who to call. Chris Ranallo, Superman of Plumbing! Within the hour he sends two of his finest. Two. Plumbers. The boys quickly get to work. Both bending down, looking under the kitchen sink and one says to the other: "Check the pipes. There might be a crack". And, at that moment I saw there was one. Only it was leering from the backside of the big portly plumber. They were done in a little over an hour. Diagnosis: Busted water line under the sink. SuperBowl Sunday morning, Chris Ranallo came to my house to find water leaking from the wall in my garage from the hard freeze that the Austin area experienced on Friday February 4, 2011. Chris quickly assessed the situation and got to work. Chris has been there for me on several occasions. Twice on holidays. I can lose power, I can deal with having my car in the shop but I completely crumble with plumbing problems. The morning I had sewer water backing up into my bathtubs was one of those moments! Not to mention the EWWWWW factor! Chris responded quickly when I called him about a tankless water heater issue. I made a mistake by not asking him his hourly rate or getting a bid. He diagnosed the problem with our tankless. We purchased a new tankless and he installed it a couple weeks later. The bill we received did reflect the cost of materials and there was no breakdown for material cost and labor. After calling Chris he stated he did not have those figures, except to tell me the cost for labor was $218.75. Total bill was $1029.16 for 4 hours of labor. He said his hourly rate was $150.00. After calling Chris to discuss this he was curt and hung up on me. Would not recommend. read more

Chris Ranallo came over the same day I called him about a toilet leaking. He diagnosed the problem and replaced the wax ring, reset the toilet, and checked for leaks. He called thirty minutes before arriving, wore a mask, and cleaned up all the mess afterwards. I thought his price was fair and the quality of his work was good. Chris came out on short notice on a Saturday when I couldn't get anyone else. He was highly regarded on our local NextDoor recommendations list. Chris diagnosed the problem with my water heater, but was unable to source the required parts on that same day, and told me upfront that he couldn't help me that day, and treated me very fairly -- he didn't even charge me for the visit (I was expecting a $90 minimum service call or something similar). I really appreciate the honesty and fairness. I'll call him next time I need some plumbing work done. read more

Twice I have called Ranallo Plumbing at times I wouldn't expect them to come promptly - once recently when I discovered a leak at 4:45p. I suppose the crew was out, so the owner, Chris, came immediately and took care of the problem. Another time I called at 7:00a and Chris came within 45 minutes. Since unstopping the commode didn't take long, he checked the faucets and lavatories and gave me a tip for avoiding service calls. We've used Ranallo Plumbing for years, mainly for small stuff, but we can no longer recommend them after our last experience. What should have been a minor repair of a few hundred dollars (plumbing and to fix water damage) turned into a several thousand dollar debacle when the problem was misdiagnosed. Not even an "I'm sorry" from Chris. Avoid this company for anything but the most minor, routine repairs.
