My first time stepping foot into Ramen Ya at Kapolei Commons. As I entered the establishment I was greeted right away by a female employee. I made myself comfortable at one of the available tables. There were nine tables that seat four individuals. There was counter seatings as well. Six individuals are able to sit at the counter in an 90° angle. People who sit at the counter are able to watch the cooks prepare the dishes. I noticed on each table there was the chopstick holder, napkin dispenser, and the condiments. The female employee handed me the menu and asked if I wanted anything to drink. Water for starters. I glanced at the menu and decided to order a wonton set. Basically it was a small bowl of wonton soup, 4 piece gyoza with 4 free gyozas, and another dish. I chose the chicken katsu curry on a bed of rice. Everything was delicious. I was also helped by a male employee who refilled my cup water. I had to ask him if the establishment takes credit cards. "We take all credit cards except American Express". That's good to know since I didn't have that much cash on hand. Overall my experience at Ramen Ya was outstanding. Friendly employees and clean establishment. The past couple of times we've eaten here the food either comes out cold or it takes awhile. Last night we went there to try one last time.. it is literally our last time. The food came out fairly quick, but ALL of our food had little to no flavor at all. We had ordered the several dishes of different types of ramen, miso soup, Kathy curry and fried rice and it all was very terrible. We were so cold from the weather and hungry and it was a disappointment! Even the waitress was shocked when we asked for the bill. Broth is a little watered down, but some people might like that. Combo Set A ($8.95) includes: small ramen, gyoza, and your choice of side. Environment - Looks just like Kapolei Daiichi. Service is good, and hopefully they can keep it up. Bathroom - Located near the kitchen, smells funky, one unisex stall Location - having more businesses in Kapolei Commons is so much better than Kapolei Shopping Mall. Bigger intersection and roads. Please read for reason of three star rating. First off, we come here very often and we always order the Combo A set. The food here is great and the prices are great. It's a clean area to eat in and the customer service is also great. Their ramens are filled with flavor and they also have chili oil and other sauces you can add to your ramen. I especially love coming here because their Sweetened Green Tea(Gold Peak Brand) for some reason, it tastes better than the bottled one that's sold in store. We came here yesterday, after 2pm, which we also got free gyoza being that that's their special after 2pm. We placed our orders and was brought out gyoza, when our drinks came, the waiter whom was a male, split the drinks which split all over me, my shirt was soaked and so was my shorts and legs n slippers. I saw it coming, I could tell by the way he had hold the tray. I'm not a waitress, but I see how others serve drinks and they place the tray on the tip of the table as a balance so maybe that's something that waiter can do specifically; just a tip so it doesn't happen again. I initially got mad but quickly told myself what good is it gonna do me to get mad? I'm still gonna have a soaked shirt,soaked shorts. Being mad wont benefit anybody. The guy and the female both apologized to me and the lady moved us to a different table, gave me napkins to wipe myself up. I told her it's okay, it's not like it's gasoline. I dined here for dinner on 8/29/13. I must say that I am surprised by the appearance of the place. I like how the kitchen is partitioned off, but they leave a clear plexiglass window that allowed people to see the cook making the ramen. Very creative. But back to the food. I ordered the big bowl ramen. When it came out, I was surprised. It's huge. I would have to say it matches up size wise with the bowl at Shiro's. The first thing I tried was the soup. Because to me, the basis of all ramen is the soup, and it is what I judge all ramen by. The soup is of a miso base. Very strong, and on the salty side. Just the way I like it. It had a lot of vegetables in it too. Corn,bean sports,kelp,green onions, as well as hard boiled egg,pork, and chicken katsu. They even have a free gyoza deal from 2-5pm. My boyfriend and I decided to come here because the wait for Genki was too long, and we heard that this place was pretty good. We got there and the place was very busy, but we were seated right away. We loved a lot of things about Ramen-Ya. First, my boyfriend was excited about the combos. He got the won-ton soup and asked to add noodles to it, with no issues given by the waitress. When I walked in, there was another person also placing a "to go" order. They were offered a glass of water and a seat while they waited. They looked like a local, someone who wasn't new to the area. I placed my order, simply told "food in 20 minutes," and she walked away. No offer of a seat or water. When I tried to purchase a drink, I was ignored, and left standing at the front door. I waited outside, because I wasn't made to feel welcome. When I returned, my food was labeled with a white "X" of tape, the other person's order wasn't marked that way. The curry was very tasty and the chicken katsu hit the spot for me. We came during the happy hour for free gyoza (2-5pm) so we got double the portion of gyoza. Love it! The ramen was a pretty standard ramen. It was good but nothing special. The combo is a great size for sharing. I shared my meal with my almost two year old daughter and sister. I definitely could NOT finish it on my own. The staff were very accommodating. They gave us high chairs, extra bowls and utensils. They always checked up on us and even cleaned up a large mess made one of our toddlers in the group. Love love love Ramen-Ya!! Every once in a while I get a craving for some good ramen and this place is it. The people working here are very nice, friendly and welcoming. I usually get the tan-tan ramen which is always very flavorful and they don't skimp out on the noodles, vegetables and meat. Prices are very reasonable here too and the quality is great. Parking wise there is usually lots of parking in their shared lot. This is my go to whenever I want some ramen and a bonus is that it's close to home! read more

Reasonable prices. Good portions. Friendly service. Clean restaurant. I ordered (to go) the Seafood Crispy Noodle. When I dine in, I ask the server to bring this dish to me on separate plates. The seafood/veggie stew in a bowl and the noodles on the plate. The serving is large enough that I have never been able to finish the serving and always have to share this dish or take home leftovers. The sweetened green tea iced tea is my drink of choice here. I tried to order soybeans as a side order, but oddly enough at 11:00am on a Saturday, they ran out. The cashier told me that the restaurant was waiting on their food delivery order. My daughter ordered the mini mochicko chicken. It was filling for her. I always have a good experience here. I eat here regularly, since they are located near my office. We go here quite often the service isn't the greatest, but you will get your food a few minutes after ordering. The food is good, we usually get a won ton and chicken katsu curry or spam katsu curry and they are all good. The wait once you are seated is not long at all. Great service. We came in today 1pm today & it was pretty busy. We were almost immediately sat so the wait was not long at all. Their food is pretty good, I got the wonton soup combo which comes with 4 pc gyoza and for my side, i chose spam katsu curry (portions were very friendly) my fiancé got the ramen combo, 4pc gyoza and side fried rice. The fried rice to me, was very bland but my fiancé liked it. In my opinion, the fried rice had too many green peas .. Our entire meal + a soda was less than $25... Didn't know what we were getting ourselves into as our only ramen experience has been with microwave ramen. Luckily for us we have heard some radio ads that talk about different kinds of ramen. Both of us are not a fan of bean sprouts but we ate them in the ramen without issue. The ratio of ramen, bean sprouts, and meat was off for us. 60% bean sprouts, 30% noodles, and 10% meat. The broth had a good flavor to it and with a little of sriracha gave it the kick I was looking for. They have a GYOZA happy hour, need I say more...yes, I do because we will definitely be back. Our food service was exceptional, we had a friendly server that made it a point to regularly check on us and the food was 'ono! We ordered the shrimp fried rice to share, my kane could not resist the mapu tofu noodles, and I had a side of crochette and gyoza (which was free because of happy hour). Everything had so much flavor and the portions were so large that we had leftovers to enjoy later that evening. The menu is pretty much the same as any other curry house like Daichi or Coco Ichiban however, I prefer Ramen Ya because of the location. It's located at the Kapolei Commons shopping center by Down to Earth, they have a parking lot just for that part of the shopping center so it's easy to park and get-in. Trust me, finding parking at Daichi or Coco Ichiban is near impossible most of the time. Ramen Ya will be one of our new regular go-to curry spots. read more

I used to come here often but now I go to the one in Ewa Beach but decided that since I was in the area I should stop by because I wanted ramen because I am sick. I decided to do take out. I know the woman with the short hair and she is soooo kind but I got a younger girl. She was Asian and had light medium to short hair up in a pony tail. She was rude. I ordered and she basically didn't say thank you after I paid. She threw my card and the receipt on the counter and told me to sign. I thought "okay that was kinda rude but let's go on with this". She told me curtly "5 mins". I left for a little bit and came back and my food was not ready which was okay so I sat down. What got me angry was that this girl decided ohhhhh let's see how far she can push this with the rude attitude and basically threw the ramen on the table and said, "Here" then left. I am never ever returning to this location. I'm fine with Ewa Beach now. I used to come to this place every single weekend because they had amazing customer service now I just won't. Though, after trying at the Kapolei one, if I were to compare the Kapolei one with the Hawaii Kai one, you guys are almost neck & neck. But, I have to say Kapolei, congratulations, you guys defeat the Hawaii Kai one. Why? It's the curry. The Kapolei curry has some potatoes & carrots, thus making it more chunky; that what good curry is suppose to be: Thick & Chunky! Meanwhile Hawaii Kai, their curry is good too, but only thick & less chunky. That's why I gave the medal to Team Kapolei to defeat Team Hawaii Kai on Ramen-Ya restaurant. The portions are always massive! I have never not left with a extra plate, and this is the first place I always recommend when going out with family or friends to eat. Entree's are usually served out within 5 - 15 minutes depending on the amount of other diners, with appetizers being pretty much instantly on your table. The food quality, since 2013, has remained amazing! The Katsu curry in particular has always been my favorite, and I can never get enough of it. The staff are very accommodating as well, and the service is likewise a 4.5 - 5 depending on the amount of people currently dining (small staff, but they do their best). The pricing is also very fair, I feel. Most plates do not go over $11.00. I love this place, and I feel like it would be worth giving it a try for anybody in the area that feels the need for feed! read more
