My boyfriend is obsessed with their spicy volcano ramen, he's had it at least 20 times and claims it's the spiciest ramen he's been able to find on island.. my tolerance certainly can't handle it. I've tried the white miso ramen in the past and was not a fan so tried the original red ramen today. The noodles were superior, clearly hand made and impeccably crafted. The broth was acceptable. Gyozas came out nice, steaming hot and crispy, they were gone within minutes. Didn't try any of the specials from the specials board but they look interesting and adventurous. My ramen cravings were finally satisfied at Manichi Ramen! I came here for a girl's night dinner with some friends who wanted to check it out. We all raved about the cool interior of the restaurant from the neon lights, decor, and artwork. My friends and I all ordered our own bowls of ramen. I opted for the Original White Shiroton Ramen. It came with broth, noodles, bean sprouts, green onions, and two pieces of chashu. I also added an egg in mine. I found the price to be reasonable for what you get. The ramen itself was simple and filling. The broth was light, the noodles thin and chewy, and the egg was a mix between hard and soft boiled. Personally I like my ramen eggs to be runny but theirs was still good! Manichi Ramen also offer speciality ramens that I'm interested in trying if I come back! For a Saturday night the restaurant wasn't too busy. Due to COVID-19 procedures, they have limited indoor seating and do contact tracing. As a result, we had to wait outside for a short time. I entered at Manichi Ramen on an empty stomach, and the ramen hit the spot for me. I ordered the original black Kuroton ramen. The ramen has thin chashu pork, spring onions, bean sprouts, and the noodles are in a garlic tonoktsu (pork bone broth) soup. The broth was thin, which I didn't mind at all. I also ordered the pork kakuni bao bun which came with green onions, and japanese bbq. The moyashi (bean sprouts) was on the side. The pork bao bun is $6.25, which is why I only ordered one. It's delicious, I wished that two came with that price. The pork was soft & the Japanese bbq adds to the flavor. If you don't mind the broth being thin, and if you plan to order more than just a bowl of ramen, be prepared for the price. The service was great, and quick. Just had lunch at Manichi ramen and it was so-so. We ordered the Original White and a side of chicken karaage. Having just returned from Fukuoka, we were ready and excited for a taste test to compare any differences. Soup - It was not as milky white as I expected and lacked the rich pork bone broth. It was serviceable, though. Noodles - they use Sun noodles and it was of the Hakata style. Good, thin, and cooked a little softer than I would like. I really like the ramen places that will ask you how well you want your noodles cooked. Not here. Chicken karaage - it was good and made to order so it came out piping hot. They use potato starch so it had the familiar crunch. There was a light seasoning and it came through the crunch. Ajitamago - We ordered a side of the egg and it was a little overcooked and did not have that runny yolk appearance (see my photo). Sorry, but this was a disappointment. The ramen came with negi, bean sprouts, and 2 pieces of char siu; which were good. I wish that more was added such as bamboo shoots, ear mushroom, etc., but those would be extras that you have to pay for. Some places will give you that for free. Overall, it was a decent bowl of ramen but I feel that they missed the richness of the broth which would have made it a 4 star place. read more

Sometimes my friends and I will come here when our usual spot is closed between their lunch and dinner hours. Ramen has always been served quickly and quality has always been good. Sometimes there's special types of gyoza and ramen you can order! Like when we went they had pizza or okonomiyaki style gyoza! (Sorry no pic of the menu, it was a little hard to get at the angle I was sitting) Original gyoza was good, perfect size and cooked perfectly so the wrapper was crispy where it was pan fried and had a nice chew on top. I like the chashu here because it's not super fatty but tender and flavorful. I just wish the pieces were thicker for the price I paid lol. Oh well, the price for good food - amiright? The BF had the Wafu Shoyu, he said it was good but comparable to other ramen he's had and the ajitamago felt like it was a bit over cooked to how he'd normally like it. So good! 10/10 would come here again! Each dish was flavorful and soft! Char siu was not thick like how other ramen places make it, but it was still filling and not dry. I like how there's a full soft boiled egg in the ramen, so I didn't need to order an extra half. Gyoza and takoyaki were very soft and tasteful. Service was awesome. Thank God I've been working out a lot I can indulge in my favorite foods like Ramen! And Manichi ramen serves delicious ramen! They have a small parking lot or it's just a hop skip and jump across the street from Ala moana center on Kona Street. They have lots of different types of ramen to choose from and are known for their delicious Gyoza as well. I'm happy that they are allowing dine in now after getting your information and a quick temperature check. They have limited seating but we didn't need to wait. It was my first time trying Curry ramen and it was delicious! So tasty and flavourful! If you like japanese curry you would love this ramen but it's not too thick and overpowered. The broth is really tasty and seasoned perfectly in my opinion, I was happily slurping away! My boyfriend had the Manichi special level #3 spicy and although it was delicious i think he may have been over zealous because I could see sweat on his head and he had to wipe his nose a few times. I enjoyed my special miso soup ramen that came with an egg, meat, and other delights. I ate the whole thing. The broth was also very flavorful! We shared the pizza egg rolls and shrimp gyoza. Pizza egg rolls may be a stretch for me but I mean, if you like pepperoni, that can be your jam. I preferred the shrimp gyoza to share! All great! Tldr: Go get your ramen at Bario inside the food court. It is 100% better, even in the plastic container it is so much better. We stopped by for lunch and wanted to try a different ramen place and sadly regretted our decision. We sit next to someone who ordered the calamari squid legs fried. They were huge and golden crust color. So we ordered the exact same thing and ours came out to be much smaller and the crust was so off color we asked them if this is the same thing as our neighbor and they said yes. We accepted our fate and hope for a good bowl of ramen. We were let down again. The tonkatsu was no where rich in flavor, the noodles were "homemade" but the texture was not correct. The miso flavor was worse than the tonkatsu and a bit more salty as expected. The chasiu was thin and still had a very strong pork smell. The eggs were also overcooked. Not your typical ramen eggs. Overall, I gave it 2 stars for decent service and getting food out quickly. But will not return and you should also reconsider another ramen location. read more

I love this place! It is such a hidden gem right on the outskirts of Ala Moana. It is right below 808 Tattoo as well if you know where that is. The food is divine! Every time we go I get the Takoyaki, and Yakatori Chicken bowl! The service is 10/10, it is a rather small place, but I've never not been able to be seated. This is probably my 5th or 6th time coming to Manichi Ramen. With the pandemic going on, the restaurant checks for vaccination cards & ID upon entry. They also check your temperature and ask that you use hand sanitizer before coming in to be seated. It was great seeing how smoothly they had this process set. There was a little wait when I came by for lunch and the staff asked me to wait outside since more people were coming in to add their name to the waitlist as well. It took about 10 minutes or so before I was called back inside to be seated. The bar was available for immediate seating too, but I preferred the table. The menu prices are a bit different from what's shown on their downloadable PDF menu on their website. A few dollars inflation, which is understandable due to covid and the times. Today I tried the Manichi Special ($15.50), which is one of their Original Ramen combinations. It includes char siu, ajitamago, bean sprouts, scallions, black garlic oil, and spicy karamiso. The ramen tastes just as amazing as my past visits. The ramen noodles are perfectly al dente and chewy. The soup is wholesome and not too fatty. The char siu is flavorful and comes with 3 slices. Egg is a nice soft boil with a beautiful semi-runny yolk to compliment the broth. I also tried out their "award winning gyoza" - the Melted Cheese Gyoza ($8.50). Comes with 5 pieces. The gyoza is pan fried on one side and soft on the other. The cheese was surprisingly good on top. I'll probably try to add cheese on my own homemade gyoza in the future too. My husband and I really love this place! It is located close to Ala Moana, but it isn't attached to it so it isn't as busy as the rest of the mall. We were craving ramen on a rainy day and this was the perfect opportunity to satisfy our cravings. When we first got here, the host and server was super nice and friendly. There was no wait and the place was pretty empty so he was able to get our drinks quickly. Even better! We started off our meal with some yummy Japanese beers and a whiskey highball. Both of those at the beginning of a meal is already a start to a fantastic meal. Then we ordered the Tatsuta Karage and the chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy. The squeeze of lemon also gave it a great freshness too. Though it doesn't come with a spicy mayo if you like it more saucy like some places. I was fine without it. Now to the main event. The ramen! We both ordered the Volcano Tonkotsu and it had the perfect amount of spiciness for me. I think it was a little too spicy for my husband though. Sort of hidden behind the Alamoana mall parking lot, it is worth seeking out. Fun room, nice staff, but the ramen is the highlight. We had an original shiroton- took us back to Japan - pure and clean tonkotsu broth with great collagen mouthfeel and balance. And a black miso Kuroton- same great balance but with that big black garlick kick. Both delicious, but for us the Shiroton was the clear winner! I've said that the best ramen is in Japan. I finally got to try Manichi on Kona Street and the best ramen is still in Japan. So far. Ramen is a Japanese staple that rivals sushi. Both require a strict regimen and have their "kodawari"; an unwavering preference. From the way the soup is made: the ingredients, the temperature, the consistency, the aroma, how the flavor clings to the noodles, what condiment goes with the soup... The thickness of the noodles, the length of time it gets boiled, how well the water is strained off the noodles... The soup is so well balanced, the water on the noodles will dilute it. Kan-nana is short for "Kanjosen Nana-go". It's the name of the seventh expressway encircling the city of Tokyo which is crucial to the city, connecting ports to warehouses to businesses. Truckers use the expressway day and night and when they stop for a bite to eat, it's gotta be fast, filling and good. Ramen is a very popular dish and the road is lined with noodle shops. It is dog-eat-dog and if you're not good enough, you're gone. If you are good enough, you better stay that way, because if someone better shows up, you'll lose your customers and ultimately, your business. I've had what I'm told was the best of the best in Japan: Ramen Jiro, Ichiran and a little shop in Hakata which I doubt I'll ever find if my life depended on it... Now, with that said, it's already looking grim for ramen shops that I review here in Honolulu. It's got to be SPECTACULAR. Manichi isn't bad. The soup I chose was the "shiro" which is tonkotsu or pork bone broth. This type is usually considered "kotteri" which means "robust". It could have used a bit more flavor. For me, it was a bit light to be a proper tonkotsu. The noodles are the thin type but has a bit of firmness to it. Thinner noodles tend to get soggy relatively quickly so it's harder to work with. Manichi did a very decent job keeping it Al dente. Toppings were simple; two thin slices of roast pork, bean sprouts and chopped green onion. I wish they put nori and maybe some menma. (Seasoned picked bamboo shoots) Along with a side of house-made pork gyoza, my order was $20 and change. A bit pricey in my opinion. Manichi would have earned another star if it costed half as much. Cost performance is a bit off balance here. Either the cost needs to come down or the flavor needs to jump out a bit more. (Gyoza was excellent!) Maybe I'll try their "kuro" or black soup ramen next time. *Heavyweight ramen chain "Kamukura" with around 70 locations in Japan is set to open in Ala Moana Lanai in July, and "Jinya", which has almost 40 locations in North America and Canada is going to occupy the space that was once Morimoto's in the Ward Villages area. I was looking for a lunch spot in the area and my parents wanted ramen. A comb through my bookmarks showed me Manichi Ramen, recommended by a co-worker, and it did not disappoint. We (party of four) got there on July 4th at 11:45ish and were seated immediately. There was probably one other table dining there and we were far enough away from them, which I appreciated. I guess the trick to dining in without crowds is to come on a holiday. We started with the karaage, and you can't really go wrong with that. It came out piping hot, crispy, and flavorful. We also got an order of the Garlic Butter Shrimp Gyoza, which seemed to be one of the more popular gyozas. I thought it was only okay. When the menu said garlic butter, I was expecting North Shore garlic shrimp vibes. But sadly, this was not that. Instead, it was more Trader Joe's gyoza vibes with a bunch of scallion and garlic paste on top. Luckily, the ramen was much better. After I had the curry nikutama over at Marugame Udon, I guess I was on a curry kick because I ended up ordering the creamy curry ramen here and I loved it. The broth was rich and flavorful but not TOO rich. The noodles were also cooked perfectly. Dad had the Volcano Tonkatsu ramen (too spicy for me, but he enjoyed it), and Mom and Hubby both had some variations of the miso (also great, but nothing unique). Overall, everything was pretty great. I liked that they had non-ramen options, such as donburi and udon. So if you have someone in your party who isn't really feeling ramen, there is something for them too. The other gyozas sound interesting too but after the garlic shrimp, I'm a bit skeptical. But that's not enough to stop me from coming back for some more ramen. The gyoza was just alright, but it seems like the thing to get is the chili gyoza. The tsukemen's dipping sauce was actually good as a broth. It wasn't concentrated or anything. It would've been better as a ramen itself. It looks like tsukemen, but it doesn't have the same sentiment of a tsukemen. The miso butter ramen was pretty good. The classic was average.
