I've been here multiple times over the years and the food has always been consistently delicious. The service is attentive, the ambience is casual and relaxing, and their ramen has always had a flavor profile that stood out from many of the other ramen spots around town. If you've never gone, this is your sign to make one final visit before they close their doors. Some of my personal menu highlights: * Black Miso Butter Corn Ramen * Creamy Curry Ramen * Volcano Tonkotsu * Kara Miso Spicy Gyoza * Takoyaki * Chicken Tatsuta Karaage The portions are satisfying without feeling overly heavy, and pricing has always felt reasonable for Waikiki/Honolulu standards. For two people, expect roughly: * $55-$70 for two ramen bowls, sides, and a pitcher of beer * Around $80 if you decide to add extra dishes and appetizers like we usually did Location-wise, Manichi is tucked away on the side street near Ala Moana Center. The parking lot is small, so during busy lunch and dinner hours you may need to park across at the mall and walk over. Honestly, walking through Ala Moana after ramen isn't the worst idea anyway lol. One thing worth noting: the restaurant can get VERY warm inside during peak hours, especially when packed, so dress comfortably. Service has always been kind, efficient, and welcoming every time I've visited, even during busy rushes. You can tell this little restaurant built a loyal following over the years. It's always sad seeing local favorites close, especially ones that quietly became part of people's routines and comfort food spots. This is a great ramen spot right outside of Ala Moana. It wasn't too busy so we got a table right away. The set was nice and included the gyoza. The beers were reasonably priced and making friends got us some extra beers. The ramen was very tasty and was more of a tan tan base. I don't know much about ramen but I enjoyed my meal and would suggest it to anyone looking for ramen. read more

I ordered the basil parmesan ramen because I can't resist interesting flavor combos - but it was actually so good! The basil brought a light and refreshing flavor, the parmesan has a sort of umami to it, and the cherry tomatoes were just slightly cooked in the hot broth, so they were juicy and plump. It all worked together really nicely. I wish there was maybe a little more char siu - there were two very thin slices that were very tasty but left me wanting more! I shared gyoza with friends and those were really good, too - juicy and flavorful with crisp bottoms. The service was quick and the staff was attentive and nice. They made sure we had water and gave us candy at the end of our meal! The ambiance was casual but cute. There is one big long table that could seat a larger party. My only very minor complaint is that we were sitting under a ceiling fan that had a light bulb above it, which created a kind of flickering strobe effect that was sort of hard on my eyes lol. The last time I came here was 6+ years ago and I guess the cook at the time did a bad job because I don't remember it being this good. $20 lunch special came with ramen and 5 pc gyoza. two slices of meat. any ramen. We decided to share a bottle of yuzumon shochu. It's basically a light refreshing lemonade for adults. We ordered cheesy gyoza, which cheese on gyoza is a great combo! Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. They have so many different items to choose from. We wanted to order more apps, but we were there for ramen. The ramen did not disappoint either. Perfect on a rainy Hawai'i day! We came around 7 on a Monday and it was not too busy. They sat us right away. We got the takoyaki as an appie. Nice and fresh / crispy. It came with some Japanese mustard and pickles and the classic sauces on top. I tried the Manichi special, yum! The broth was nice and savory, seemed to have a vibrant spice to it. Char siu was nice and tender. Good amount of chili oil on top to give it a pleasant kick. The egg tasted more like a regular boiled egg than soy sauce which was just okay. Noodles were the perfect consistency and it comes with a lot! At $17 a bowl I think it was a fair price. Service was very quick and friendly. Appears family-owned. Funny story: we were actually on our way to Foodland for some poke, when the warm glow of Ramen Manichi seduced us like moths to a brothy flame. We followed the light... straight through the wrong door. The staff kindly let us know we had, in fact, committed a minor entrance crime -- but did so with such grace that we felt more like adorable tourists than public nuisances. We were seated right away, and the vibe? Warm, cozy, and distinctly Japanese -- my friend literally said she felt like she had been teleported to a ramen shop in Tokyo. (Minus the jet lag.) We kicked things off with the Karamiso Spicy Gyoza ($9.50), recommended by our server and blessed by the food gods. Ground pork, simmered in spicy miso, casually lounging on top like it owns the place. We devoured it. I got the Creamy Curry Ramen ($15.50) and oh man -- it was everything. Flavorful, rich but not oily, and basically a hug in a bowl. It had me questioning every other ramen I've had before. Foodland can wait. Ramen Manichi gets a solid 5/5 from me. I used to love coming here with my family! It has been about 1 1/2 yr since I have last visited and I was very excited. Sadly, my experience was the worst I had here. The inside of the restaurant is not very big or spacious and there seems to be no AC so be prepared. Being seated for a party of 4 was fairly quick. The serve was polite and helpful in every way. I used to love the noodles and broth, the whole ramen bowl was amazing. This experience was disappointing. The noodles are different from before. My noodles were now a mushy texture and I felt it absorbed the broth very quickly making it mushy quicker. The broth tasted okay, but like before the broth was amazing. The fried rice was great! The Pork Kakuni was amazing as usual! The gyoza, again I used to absolutely love, was horrible. There was not that crisp that I used to get before and the inside of the mixture was pink and mushy. Out of the 5 gyoza, I bit into one and ripped open two other all had that pink and mushy feel. I checked with the serve and he stated that is how it is, so politely returned my gyoza dish. Thankfully they took that off my bill. Overall, the food was not worth the pricing and I have had their food when it tasted better. The service from the male serve we had was excellent. Came here for dinner after finding our first idea for dinner was closed! Our server sat us right away and pointed to the happy hour menu - which was ending in less than 3 minutes. We had no idea. Saw a $10 tonkotsu ramen on the HH menu, so I grabbed that. I hadn't been to Manichi in years, but remembered their kakuni was UH-MAZING, so had a kakuni bao ($3.50). We also had garlic shrimp gyoza and ika geso. This place is known for their gyoza, so definitely try that. There's many many varieties of gyoza. The ramen was okay. The kakuni was just as good as I remembered it - I regretted not ordering just kakuni or more baos for dinner. Ika was a large portion and the legs were pretty big too! I wish it came with more than just a dry lemon wedge to go with it, though. The shop itself is pretty spacious - actually a large amount of seating for a ramen shop. Lots of free parking in the back lot. It is **warm** inside, which worked because it's been a cold week for us in HI. But just be warned. Maybe the AC is out? Anyway, the place is clean and welcoming. Just not my favorite for the ramen itself. If you go, go for the kakuni and gyoza. read more

This has always been one of my favorite go-to for ramen... service is pretty decent considering there is normally only one person serving this small hole-in-wall ramen spot! The ramen is always the best and their apps are top notch. Noodles is cooked perfectly. Broth is A1! I got the Miso Black with an egg! You can't forget to get their gyoza... multiple ways of preperations they have available. My go-to would definitely be the negi negi one... basically a lot of green onion, nothing more than that! But, i did try out the garlic shrimp one and it is my new favorite! Calamari was nicely battered, lightly battered, seasoned to perfection. Nothing negative to say about their food! I love coming to this hole in the wall spot, but the only thing was where i was sitting. The big community is nice, but i was right next to the fan... convenient because we are eating a hot bowl of ramen. I just wish it wasn't directly at me. I ordered for ajitamago but I think the lady forgot and she didn't check on us. Also, we used to order the bao buns and it comes in two, but now, it only comes in one (I guess? hopefully she didn't forget too). The place was nice but some part of our table was wet from a previous drink, it has a wet glass mark. Seems like the table wasn't wiped down. The food here is amazing. My wife and I have eaten here 3x(so far) in the five days we have been in town. To begin, the gyoza is simply amazing. We tried the standard pork gyoza twice and today we ventured out and had the pork gyoza drenched in diced onions. Both are absolutely delicious. When the plate is empty you just want more! For entries I always get the original pork ramen(white broth), while my wife has the basil parmesan. Both these dishes knock it out the park. I am a pork ramen lover but let me tell you, if it were my last meal and I were forced to order just one - I think i would order the basil parm. It is amazing. Great food, good service, great prices. I came here with 2 friends after visiting North Shore! The ambiance is very mellow and average just due to it being in a corner of a plaza. The service was great considering how the waiter continuously checked up on my friends and I. The gyoza filling is very full and melts into your mouth with the pork! I got the special miso ramen and the broth was super flavorful and umami. I definitely recommend this place to any ramen aficionados! TIP: There's enough parking in this plaza and there's restrooms! They attach the keys on a spoon and the restroom is in another building. You do have to jiggle to make sure the door can open! read more

Ramen noodles had a nice bite. Garlic butter shrimp gyoza is a topping for their gyoza. Unless the shrimp was chopped up really small, I don't remember seeing shrimp. Manichi Ramen is always a classic place to go to (located right near the Burger King along Kapiolani Blvd, tucked away near the ice cream store). The ambience is very nice, and not too noisy. It allows for easy conversation. One gets the feeling of how cozy it is due to the compactness of the seating arrangements. It's well ventilated, even on a warm day, and the staff are so very attentive. Although I occasionally go alone, I do enjoy going there with my father where we can try two different things on the menu each time we go. On this trip, I went with a classic ramen that for my purposes that day, matched the simplicity and balanced flavor I was looking for :). The ajitama eggs melted in the mouth, as I always like to wait til the very end to eat them. It's like a dessert essentially. The ramen was soft, and the broth was incredibly flavorful. The charsiu was lean and soft. I look forward to trying some new flavors of ramen next time! :) 10/10 read more

Delicious ramen! The noodles have a nice chew and texture. The broth is sooo flavorful and the char siu was melt in your mouth soft. Put it altogether for an amazing bite of ramen. We ordered the Manichi Special and the Original Black. For the sides we ordered a melted cheese gyoza. Our only nitpick would be that the soft boiled egg was hardboiled and we would have liked the gyoza to be more fried and crispy. It's a small place but we were able to get seated right away and served. They had initially brought out a regular gyoza when we ordered the cheese gyoza and they quickly corrected it. Had a lovely lunch today at this hidden restaurant next to Ala Moana Shopping Center. We were on our way to Foodland when I spotted this old gem! I've visited here a few times since 2018. Decked in black, the inside of the restaurant has a vintage Japanese ramen shop feel complete with paper covered sconces. Neat rows of wooden tables and chairs. No tables look alike since the wood seems hand made. There's booth seating against the walls. Our server Chris was friendly and accommodating. When he noticed we have kids, he offered a pink fork, smaller bowls and even plain fries for them. Kid friendly place for sure! The pricing is very affordable. We got 3 dishes and an appetizer and only came out to about $37, decent price for the large proportions. read more

I've heard really good things about Ramen Manichi. There are kind of a lot of places to get ramen in Honolulu and unfortunately I don't really love ramen, so I've never actually made it to Manichi even though I heard it was good. Finally one of my friends wanted to go and I said sure since I had never been. First, the parking lot was full. Like where were all the people who were parked in the parking lot anyway? There are only a handful of stores. I could have parked in Ala Moana center and walked across Kona street but I was running late. Someone ended up leaving only a few seconds after I got there, so it wasn't a big deal and when we left the parking lot was relatively empty. I guess just try to go during non rush times if you need to park. I noticed that the restaurant was surprisingly full on a random afternoon at like 3pm. My friend had to put her name down and wait for a table. Once inside and seated, we were given waters and menus. I liked that there are other things on the menu, not just ramen. The udon salad caught my eye as well as the rice bowls, but in the end, I decided on ramen anyway. I chose the wafu shoyu ramen because I like bamboo shoots lol. I know I choose things for the weirdest reasons but it was like an extra $3 to add bamboo shoots to other ramen and the others were already like $17 per bowl. We also ordered one of the saucy gyoza. The gyoza alone was good and I like dipping my gyoza in shoyu vinegar. But, man, that sauce on the gyoza was good and I'd come back just to try the other flavors and to get gyoza again. The ramen was alright. The inside is cute. It has cute pics in the walls and it feels cozy and authentic. This restaurant is in one of those side buildings on Kona street and it's right next to that ice cream roll place that was super popular a few years ago. The service was ok. Nothing really exciting happened. I'd come back, maybe not necessarily for the ramen, but that's just because I'm not really a ramen fan. At least so far that I've tried over my last few trips to the Hawaii :) When I came by on a weekday for lunch, they had open seats and no wait at all. There were multiple patrons already seated inside. When you enter through the front door, wait for someone to acknowledge and seat your party. They have so many yummy options to choose from. Cheesy Gyoza | ~$9 Tender gyoza dumplings with cheese melted. This was good and I was glad I tried it, but it's nothing mind-blowing. Manichi Ramen Special #1 | $17 Delicious ramen with black garlic oil, tasty char siu, bean sprouts, and medium boiled egg. The noodles are delicious and have the bounce and chew of great noodles. Most of the other ramen places I've been to just use an egg noodle that seems more Chinese noodle style versus Japanese ramen style. The only thing I wish different is that there be a bit more broth in the ramen since I love having a good ramen noodle to soup ratio to balance out my food and have a few last tasty sips at the end of my meal.
