The service was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond. I was there maybe an hour or so, and by the end I felt like a member of the restaurant. That's how welcoming the staff was. If i could rate it on this alone it would be 5 stars. The food was very good, and when a server described it, I felt how much he loved the elk burger. We ate here mid September and it was a lovely alternative to its overcrowded (but delicious) competitor across the street. It's very spacious with very high ceilings. The building may be 100 years old and is full of charm! We were able to hear ourselves talk. The crab cakes were fantastic and my husband loved the strawberry rhubarb pie. Our visit was in mid-September. They had only been open for a few weeks in the old Bridgewater and Zebra location. As the building had been vacant for sometime, we were curious about the new tenant. It turns out the Rambling Rose is yet another Maryanne creation (she has created a number of food offerings in Florence). That was enough to convince us to try it out. Seating and ambience are in line with the antique building. Informal, with rustic floors, and matching tables and chairs. The menu is not extensive but has a variety of offerings from salads to hamburgers to seafood. We started by sharing the Fried Oyster appetizer. The menu indicated there was a sauce to accompany them, but it never appeared despite asking. The DW had Fish Tacos which she enjoyed but doesn't remember any guacamole (but it has been a while). I had the Seafood Pasta which was also pleasing even though I prefer more garlic in my cream sauce. The biggest problem is the service. It was clear the server was new, like really new. His failures were numerous. The Fried Oyster plate was plopped down without separate plates even though we told him we were sharing them. The alleged sauce never appeared. Refill on water and a soft drink were never offered. We had to flag down a different server to ask for them. Our server really only appeared at the table to take the order (and that was some time after being seated), and to bring the check. Note there were only a few other tables and he wasn't responsible for any of them. Perhaps the employee crowd near the bar was were he was occupied. If they survive the winter, I might return next summer. At least by then the staff should be more customer oriented. read more

We stopped in to the Rambling Rose for a drink while we're in town for Thanksgiving, and wow--what a beautiful place with such a great ambiance! We love many of the restaurants in downtown Florence and have our regular spots, but with the new ownership we wanted to check it out. We sat at the bar and had the most wonderful bartender/server, Jessica. She was fantastic! We ended up staying longer than planned and ordered an appetizer, which happened to be the special--and it was delicious. The chef even came out to ask how everything was. Okay. I'd give this place a few weeks, they are very disorganized, and very understaffed, with, practically, no front of the house presence. It makes for a very chaotic experience, but the food was good. Our order got misplaced, but when they warn you ahead of time that they are extremely short staffed, you kind of expect it, until it's an hour, and nobody knows what happened to your food. We saw a few patrons come in, seat themselves, wait 20 minutes and leave, and we saw others come in, get seated, eat and leave before we even got our food. Everyone was nice, and very apologetic, but it's not worth commenting on the food when the experience is not even close to up to par. I'm hoping they turn it around, and succeed, which is why they are getting 3 stars instead of the 1 or 2 they deserve, but it's not looking great right now. read more

We drove 30-45 minutes out of our way because according to Google it was open until 10pm on a Monday. Having been duped by Google before I double checked the Rambling Rose website to see their hours which indeed said open until 10pm. We walked in just after 9pm and were told they weren't open. The older lady who told me this then turned away abruptly so I mentioned their website shows they are open until 10pm. Her reply? No kids menu or high chairs. You could tell the staff was trying but not well organized. Coffee was so-so and wasn't refilled without prompting. If you want tea you have to go to the back and get it yourself. Food was good except my salmon over pasta was barely lukewarm. I had the cod fish and chips that wonderfully done. Light batter with mild oil and delicious fresh fish. The ice tea was flavorful without any bitterness. Great service with a smile. We stopped in for lunch on Wednesday at just after noon. There were two other people dawdling in an otherwise empty building. We were greeted and seated immediately. The menu is spartan at best, offering nothing but fundamental fare - nothing extra. I ordered fish tacos. Very humble, more like a cheap street tacos than typical fish tacos. Cod, with some cabbage and a dash of sauce on grilled 5 inch tortillas. Cod was fresh, cooked properly but tiny in comparison to some similar offerings by neighboring restaurants. The tacos were the only items on the plate. No chips, no rice or beans etc., just the little tacos -$17. My wife ordered the salmon "special" which was to include a salmon fillet over mashed potatoes and asparagus. When it was brought to the table, there was nothing on the plate that was fresh. The salmon fillet was easy half of what we were used to seeing at other restaurants in the area. Okay, a "special" - probably a smaller portion than the regular menu would have. Nope, the "special " was just a pitch to clear out old inventory - $24 - same price as the regular menu shows. The side salad ($5 extra) was wilted, the asparagus included with the salmon was old, the mashed potatoes were lumpy (to the point of being laughable). The "wild" salmon was leaching orange food coloring into the lumpy potatoes. Okay, perhaps there was an issue in the kitchen. We had to order bread and butter ($4) which is generally offered at no charge in other restaurants in the area. My wife reported the issues with the meal to the waiter, who apologized briefly and said he would report the problems to the chef. That was the last we saw of him until he figured it was time to bring the bill. No offer to correct the problems, no offer to reduce the bill - nothing. Clearly the mark of a venue teetering on the edge of collapse, or poor management, or both. Hard to say. Overall, the experience was disappointing, food was subpar and overpriced, service was adequate - although we elected not to leave a tip in response to a sharp decline in attention after my wife complained about the food. The waiter's tone seemed to shift from pleasant to chippy. The final bill was just under $60 - no alcohol. This was our first experience with this restaurant that replaced a Florence standard - "Bridgewater". Probably will not try them again - there is really nothing at this restaurant to encourage a return visit. read more

Went here a couple weeks ago with friends. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly by a pleasant waitress. Food was average- I had burger and fries which were nothing special. A friend had salad with salmon and said the fish was too dry. There's plenty of seating inside and the old bar remains in the back of the dining area. A side note- they didn't have printed menus yet but that is likely resolved by now. As elsewhere in Florence, businesses have trouble getting enough staff and this is the case here as well. I would return after they've been open awhile to give them a chance once they are fully up and running. read more

Friends and I traveled to Florence for shopping and a birthday celebration. We decided on Rambling Rose and were pleased that tit had been remodeled with a nice and bright interior and with eclectic decor. Old jazz from the fifties and sixties was a pleasant surprise. The wait was long, partly because town was busy and had only one waiter with a manager hanging around. The Mediterranean salad had good flavors but a cup of hummus could have been better if it was served with a flat bread mentioned on the menu. We brought our friend's favorite cake and of course asked if it was ok before brought it in from the car. The manger took her time explaining in detail how it wasn't allowed and the waiter was new and didn't know the rule. She explained they had to wash the extra dishes and cutlery and they could have sold desserts. They also would need to charge a fee for those reasons. She graciously waived the fee this time only. If you go to Old Town Florence, Oregon, I highly recommend Rambling Rose on Bay Street. The menu offers a nice variety of seafood and meat dishes. My wife and I ordered the wild Alaskan Coho salmon with salads and cups of clam chowder. Everything was delicious and healthy. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the mashed potatoes, squash, and asparagus were all excellent. The salads were generous and fresh, and my wife enjoyed the balsamic vinaigrette. The décor is warm and beautiful, and we felt very relaxed throughout our meal. Our server, Ferrarah, made the experience exceptional. She was professional, friendly, and genuinely kind. Her warm, caring, and beautiful personality and thoughtful service truly enhanced our evening. A special moment happened when I accidentally left my credit card behind. Before I could even explain why I had returned, Ferrarah immediately said, "Oh yes, I have your credit card!" She had already gone outside calling my name, worried I might not notice until we got all the way back to Eugene. I was deeply touched by her care and thoughtfulness. Our evening at Rambling Rose was wonderful and unforgettable. When we visit Florence again, we will definitely return to Rambling Rose Restaurant! read more

Everything old is new again. Newly opened with a "soft opening" this version at a historical location. The light touches of a revamped space is inviting. The menu... there is no menu, there is a whiteboard, best to talk with the wait staff, they can guide you to an awesome experience. Though they are just launching this new venture in an older building, it's new, fresh and exciting. Food is good, staff is awesome. My first experience included, venison burger(****), fish and chips, both cod and salmon, the salmon is well respected, and delicious. Listen - I rarely leave reviews and I hate leaving this one but I'm annoyed and kind of disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautiful and so fun to step into. Our server was also so sweet but when we ordered our drinks, I forgot my ID and I completely understand not being able to be served but our server saw my partners ID said she would make an acceptation for me only to come back 10 mins later with our food (my partners beer still not brought to the table) and then proceeded to tell me they can't serve me without an ID. I was never offered a different NA drink or anything. The fact that we waited for our drinks and we were never informed that she couldn't actually give me a glass a wine until she dropped our food and the fact that my partners beer was dropped after the food was delivered is frustrating to say the least. All in all, the food wasn't the best but I would like to try again, ID in hand. We walk to Bay Street all the time with our little one for a bite to always and a drink to end the day.
