11 years since my last review! Where has the time gone? I know, it was spent avoiding other people's carts while maneuvering around those cardboard displays they like the place in the middle of the aisles. What I like about this location is its smaller or feels more like a community store. They do a pretty good job of cramming in enough variety in their small footprint so make it so don't have to visit another grocery store. Sadly, I always feel like I have to stop at Vons to pick up something they didn't have, and vice versa. The one thing they need to work on is removing outdated sale prices. Twice in the past couple of months, the sale price listed didn't ring up, or wouldn't scan into the app, because it had expired. Now to their credit, they honored the sales price at the register, but it still held up the line while they verified the sale price. I assume they'll move to the digital price tags soon which will solve the problem, but until then, watch your receipt! read more

This is for the bakery department. I ordered a cake for my daughter's 4th birthday party and gave them inspiration photos for simple decor and color of the frosting. Per their policies, you can't give them items to put on the cake, so I ended up doing that myself- which wasn't too hard. I went to pick up the cake yesterday and was very happy to see that the color was a perfect shade of Minnie Mouse pink and the white polka dots looked so cute. I did have Angel take the dots off the top since I needed to add the decorations- and she was so gracious to do so. She did such a great job. And also, Rosa was extremely helpful when I placed the cake order. For $22.99, Ralphs did an outstanding job of helping the decorations stand out and just be even cuter! I'd definitely come back to order another cake from them! (I did taste the buttercream frosting so I knew how it would taste- and I'm expecting the cake to be as good! :-) read more

I only went into the store to pick up a few salads from the deli, and possibly some Boars Head honey ham and roasted turkey. There was, of course, no one at the deli counter to help, because the lady who manages the counter was "busy" in the back. So I waited. ...and waited. ...and waited. Another lady with a child rolled up to the hot food counter and she waited. ...and waited. ...and waited. Finally, the deli counter lady came out from the back, and approached the woman with the child and asked what she needed. The lady was kind enough to point out that I was there first. The deli lady came down and ask what I wanted. I said I'd like to pick up a few salads. She was very brusque with me, and said she couldn't hear me. I said, again, that I wanted to pick up a few salads. She then said "do I need to come out there?" What the hell, man? So, at that point, given her lack of customer service skills, her incompetence at managing the deli county, and her just plain rudeness, I decided that it was best that I take my business elsewhere. Stater Brothers over on Chapman has a FANTASTIC deli counter and the employees that manage the deli are GREAT. This Ralphs is terrible. Miserable customer service, I couldn't get the manager to talk with me (the checkout lady had no interest in getting the manager), and the quality of service in this store is just terrible. The store, while clean most of the time, is a pain to navigate; the aisles are usually full of carts of restock that just sit there for hours, the trash from the empty boxes just stacks up, and half the time - during the DAY, not early in the morning - the store looks like it's run by hoarders. Find ANYWHERE else to go! read more

I shop at this Ralph's only because it's close to my house and carries a few things no one else does. HOWEVER, it's such an unpleasant experience I have to mentally prepare myself for issues every time I go there. Ever since the new year, when California switched over to new plastic bags for produce, they seem to have trouble stocking them. Do you know how annoying it is to buy a bunch of cilantro and have nothing to put it in? I complained to the checker about it today and they claims it's a warehouse issue but no other grocery store I go to, including the Anaheim Hills Ralphs, has this problem. It's a poor management problem. How difficult is it to anticipate your bag usage and order ahead? Doesn't seem that hard. I wanted to get garlic today and they had a small selection of a couple dozen bulbs that were either moldy or growing shoots so now I have to go to Vons for it. The self checkout system has some weird algorithm where they flag you for a further inspection all the time. Last time I asked it was because I had an extra unused shopping bag in my cart. No other store flags me like this. I get they have to deal with light fingered VP high school kids flooding the store after school but you could tweak your system. They have a person literally watch you check out three feet away. The aisles are tight and it's such a pain to navigate. I don't know why they haven't expanded this store years before now. Overall, Ralph's is a good grocery chain but this store is awful. Corporate should step in and look over management's shoulder to bring it up to the standards of the rest of their stores. read more

This review is for the bakery. I ordered a cake giving them 48 hours to prepare and they still could not deliver my order. They stated that they did not get an order even though I received a confirmation and an order number. This is ridiculous and now someone will not have a cake for their birthday. Horrible customer service. Coming from a grocery store environment myself, I know customer service should always be #1. After tonight, and after seeing the reviews for this place, I understand why they're so low. I went in for a special advertised in an Ad. When I went to the meat department for help, the employee there was very dismissive. He said he didn't know where to look even though it was his department and when we asked if he could check the back (since the ad and the person we spoke with on the phone said the item was in stock), he repeated that he didn't know where to look. The brand we needed wasn't on the shelf despite being advertised and confirmed over the phone. His attitude came across as uninterested and lazy. I didn't catch his name. Asian dude with glasses completely lazy!! We then went to the sales manager at checkout, and the experience only got worse. Same attitude, same lack of willingness to help. When we asked if he could check the back, he flat-out said no and told us to ask the meat department. We explained we already had, and the employee refused. We told him the customer service was disappointing and unlike anything we'd allow at Albertsons, where we work. His only response was that he would "talk to the meat department guy," but it was clear he had no intention of addressing the issue especially since he was just as rude. Didn't catch his name either but wears a mask probably everyday too. Honestly, who's going to teach the sales manager customer service? Horrible, horrible experience tonight from both the meat department and the sales manager. Makes you wonder if they would have been more helpful had we been their own family members. read more

Great selection, service and ambiance. The store itself looks very well organized and well stocked. You can see workers between shelves and if you need something they are there to help you. Everything is correctly priced and the promos are there so get your shopping list and walk in to this store. There is a plenty of parking outside and you don't need to walk too long to get your car after shopping. Don't forget to use your loyalty card to get the discounted price. read more

I skimmed the recent reviews of this store and wow what a mix. I shop here most Sundays. Here are some pros and cons. Pros: I buy the brands I like regardless of whether or not they are on-sale. They have a good selection of the name brands I want ( unlike Bargain Barn). I find their prices to be slightly cheaper than the Stator Bros and Albertsons along Chapman in Orange. Unlike, the Albertsons in Orange, they don't have half their merchandise locked behind glass. I like the Kroger store brand for most kinds of items. Cons: As others have mentioned, the isles are narrow and the store feels crowded. As others have pointed out they do appear understaffed. This may explain the next two cons. I almost bought a moldy pizza yesterday. It was one day expired and the mold was obvious. A couple of months ago, I bought a premade salad that turned out to be inedible. The lettuces had wilted into a slimy mess. -------- So will I continue to shop there? Sure. Despite the cons, they don't lock their stuff up and they are cheaper than the two market close to my house. I will continue to carefully check expiration dates and examine perishables well. read more

Love this location! Hidden away behind Dunkin Donuts, next to the library in Villa Park. Had a lunch with some family and decided to order their party trays of sushi. I didn't care for the packaging they came in. Flimsy and does not close properly so if you make a wrong move all your food will go rolling everywhere. It wasn't too bad. Semi fresh, we thought it might be more fresh since it is from the grocery store and their seafood section is nearby but no. Would prefer other local sushi places near by. Customer service was good. Out order was ready on time. Would come back and order more party trays but probably not the sushi ones. Definitely love shopping here for groceries! Stop in for lunch at their deli or some delicious baked goods! Pricing is not accurate online to in store. read more

Came in for a book of stamps, all the registers were closed so I asked the first person I saw where I could get stamps and Jimmy the sales manager was a total asshole, he answered me in a very condescending way and hesitantly pointed to the self checkout area. The guy has a bad attitude and no manners. Thanks to Tyler for his help but this location needs to do better with their management. It's should be common courtesy to treat your customers with respect even more so as the MANAGER. It's not our fault you hate your job prick. DON'T SHOP HERE. read more

I have gone to this store for over 30 years. They are now incredibly understaffed with long lines and usually only one checker. One checker, Cindy, is always unfriendly, rude and seems angry all the time. Most in the past have had a smile and are helpful. The deli rarely has any salads out before noon and also understaffed. Some serious staff training is needed. read more

I visit this Ralph's often. The older ladies in the Deli are wonderful and are always working hard. They are always short people working and the wait time can be long. The younger girl that works there is not only rude to the customers she is rude and condescending to the other ladies. It is appalling that this is allowed to go on. Wow. Just had the most unpleasant experience with a cashier named Cindy, who was rude and questioned me about why I needed another bag. Her tone was condescending. She then went and reprimanded inappropriately a bagger about his whereabouts. and then as I was leaving, she was yelling at someone calling them a "bunch of thieves outside." Don't come here very often, and I don't think I will again. I was able to tell another staff my experience and she was going to relay the message to the manager. read more

Butcher. Serious attitude problem from dude that works in the meat deparment. Short guy with the green mask. I stood there for like 5 minutes wondering if anyone was working. This guy finally comes out and could tell immediately that he seemed bothered to have to do some work. I asked "how are you?" He straight up ignored the question and asked what I needed. So, I told him I wanted all of the chicken kabobs on display (5 of them). He then says, they had some in the aisle and asked if I wanted more (like, why are you bothering me when you could have just picked some out on your own). I corrected him and said I wanted what I said, the 5 kabobs on display. He then asks how many I wanted. So, I again stated, all of them, and then counted them out to help him out (he knew, we were just both having a smart A contest at that point, even though I'm the customer). While he was packing them up, I look over to the meat aisle as I didn't see any kabobs on display as he had suggested (had checked also while waiting 5 minutes for service), so I asked him to clarify. He walks out and finds two packs hidden in the very back. Literally, I would have had no idea they were out there without going on a treasure hunt. They were marinated with teriyaki, which I did not want. I said thanks, but it was more of an exercise of calling him out because I knew he was just being a D. He wraps my kabobs very poorly, like trash bag. Hands them to me. I say "thank you, have a good evening." Zero response. You're not doing me any favors pals. Don't be upset with the customers because you hate your job. Ralphs, maybe think about this. I know you're all union members and could care less about customer service, but those are some thin margins in the grocer world. I'll never go back to this store again. read more

The store is poorly managed. The bathroom mirror was cracked and the floor was dirty and covered with dirty paper. There was never any soap and no schedule for cleaning. I used to buy my meat because it was good, tasty and something was always on sale. For several years now, their meat is very hit or miss from ok to completely tasteless. I assumed people in Villa Park don't cook too much and it didn't matter if the food was fresh or not. I'm only in the store about once a month, if that. Corporate or management needs to follow GMPs and GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. I'm sure business is doing poorly. About 10 years ago I stopped going there for several years bc the store was mismanaged and no one cared. Someone told hold and the store improved. Carlos the bagging guy has no knowledge or have any idea as how to bag the customer's groceries whatsoever. Just left the store brought my bags TWO enough for my groceries today. He only used one but of course when I got home my Roma tomatoes and yellow nectarines were put at the bottom of one of the bags, seriously? All were smooshed and turned into puree. Shame on him. Next time if I see him bagging groceries I will definitely leave the store and go somewhere else. This is the sorriest excuse for a grocery store in Villa Park or anywhere else. And to be clear, its not the employees who are the problem, it's the people that shop here, and also whoever is in charge of making sure the store has customer staples that aren't almost expired or already expired. You can tell the average person that shops here is lazy and selfish at first sight when you enter the parking lot and see shopping carts strewn about everywhere. It's weird because the people in the store seem to be very mobile and able bodied, but somehow something happens after they are done shopping and they don't have the ability to walk literally 10ft to return a cart. Much easier to just leave it in between cars. No shame whatsoever. I've noticed the store employees trying to stay on top of it but they are short staffed and of over half the people leave their carts, then they need a full time person just for carts. They are very short staffed. You will wait in a long line and bag your own groceries which is fine. However most people don't bag their own groceries and this leads to even more delays in the line. You think someone that can't walk a cart back will bag their own groceries?? There's no food here. Always out of the staples. They haven't had chicken for days, and whatever they have had did not look edible. The red meat sits in puffy packaging and is constantly brown. I have left the store more times than I can count without meat in order to make dinner. This place just gets grosser and more depressing every time I go, someone needs to take a look at what's happening here and get it back on track. read more

Welcome to Ralph's "Fresh Faire". You may ask what makes this place different than a standard Ralph's. As far as I can tell the only difference is they charge for the medium size what another supermarket would charge for the large size. I've put up with it for years. Last night I attempted to use the self check out. It wouldn't let me check out. There was someone there working but apparently they don't offer you help in the self check out. So I left. I won't be back. Last straw. Stater Brothers on Chapman is way better. They don't even have self check out. They actually have employees that help you. read more

Too many employees in this (over-priced) Ralph's store have a seriously poor customer service attitude. I won't use self checkout if the mean-tempered "light-duty" lady is monitoring that area. The deli counter can be counted on consistently to have workers who think they are doing you a favor to help you. I blame management for allowing this to go on. Beware of NO RETURNS due to COVID. Choose wisely. But the mgr on duty was kind and let me swap out. I purchased some cotton candy grapes a couple of hours b4 the return. More than half the grapes were old, tasteless, ready to be thrown out. I was able to swap for a fresh bag of grapes. Under any circumstances do not shop at this Ralph's fresh fare. The cashier's there will not accept your Ralph's Card for the discounts you shopped for. After a huge argument with the cashier about my card she bullied me and said my card was accepted. I looked at the receipt and the $45.00 I spent should have been $34.00. The manager looked at my receipt and gave me $11 dollars back in cash. This could have all been avoided if the cashier would have let me put my card in but she would not let me. This store is so hit and miss. There are some very good employees.... And some horrible ones (read reviews about one in particular.. she's horrible). But the deli is the absolute worse. I normally don't shop at Ralph's because I find it kind of cluttered and the produce is limited. But I was driving by so I stopped in to pick up organic Romain lettuce. I found it and there were these three scrawny heads in a thick plastic bag. I do not understand why you need to put everything in plastic bag when our ocean is dying from temperature changes and plastic. I left so disheartened. I hope one day soon we will have a plastic ban on everything and we can return to buying produce the way it should be - out in the open, fresh and where we put in in our cloth bags and go home and wash it. So I have never felt so unwelcome in a store in my life. I went into the bakery today looking for some cookies and a party at work. I waited at the counter as the baker was helping a customer in front of me. When it came to my turn the baker didn't even make eye contact and said I'm boxing cookies now . I was shocked and confused. When as I walked away another customer came up to the counter and the baker asked if they needed help. This happened today 11/2 at 3pm. I wanted to walk back up to that baker and say is it because I'm not white is that way you didn't want to help me ? I left crying that store . Please don't go to this store . read more

I'm amazed this location is still open. In my old neighborhoods I would go to Ralph's exclusively for my groceries, this location has broken me from that habit. The employees look for reasons to not help. From being ignored while the register is calling for assistance, while I watch the manager, checker and bag boy stand and talk to the high school coach. To being told I can't buy alcohol on the self checkout, there was a small card with "No AB on SCO" guess I was supposed to know what that was saying. read more

Went into Ralphs tonight at approx 11:20 pm. The store is a mess as it is currently under construction. The construction workers were all over the store - it was crazy. looking to buy a pork butt to smoke for the weekend. The meat department did not have any so I asked Andrew ( must be the night manager) if they had any in back. He stopped what he was doing and walked me back (through the construction) to search the meat department and ultimately found what I was looking for back in the cooler. That time of night with all the commotion going on - I expected "I'm sorry we don't have any" - but instead Andrew was polite, courteous, and super helpful at a time when I doubted I would get much help at all. We've shopped at this Ralphs on Santiago Road for about 10 years, and normally it's a descent grocery store. But I went there this morning, a little before 10am, and had quite the opposite experience. My first visit was to the Meat Department for some wild-caught sockeye salmon. The senior butcher was busy with preparations as I caught his attention. I asked if I could get some help. He stated they weren't open yet, so I asked when they'd be open. The response was "when we're ready". I was flabbergasted! So I went on with my shopping, minus salmon. The single line with a checker was long, so I went to one of the self-serve checkout stations. I had purchased some chicken breasts that were on a 'buy one, get one free' sale if you have a Ralphs card. I entered my card number as usual. But the register didn't automatically accommodate the get one free item. So I asked for help. The young man was busy with lots of customers needing help, but he did eventually come over. He tried to get the register to work correctly, but it didn't cooperate. Every time we'd try to move forward, the register automatically went to a Help Required screen. After five attempts (and about 20 minutes), he asked to checker at the one register for help. She resolved the issue quickly. As she was leaving, she whispered "he doesn't know what he's doing", which seems accurate since he wasn't able to resolve the issue. I decided I'd call the store to speak to the manager about my experience. I selected the Customer Service option, but after quite a while nobody ever answered and there is no option to leave a message. Frustrating morning! read more

Every time I go I feel unwelcome and always get a stare down because I'm the only person of color shopping there. They act like I'm going to steal something when I'm paying at self checkout and they don't do that with anybody else and when I pay at a regular checkout, they treat me like crap, you rather go to the one at jamboree which actually treat everybody with kindness and treat people with decency. First let me say I love this Ralphs I just don't love it when Claudia is working. She is very rude and not helpful. Went here early one morning and I saw the checkouts were closed but I had 20+ groceries so I asked her if she could please help me as I stood at the checkstand, she said "no, it's closed" and walked away, I still asked her to please open it because I had so many groceries, she proceeded to ignore me and walk away, never said a word, never came back, nothing. I understand people get busy but there wasn't anyone in the store. This deters me from feeling comfortable to shop in the early mornings and as a paying customer (for over 20+ years) I should not have to feel this way! read more

i was really in a pinch today as nobody ordered a cake for a birthday party, so i got stuck with the task. 8 am this morning calling every single store around for a custom cake made by 4pm, and nobody can do it. except this ralph's. they told me next time they need a 24 hour notice but they could do this for me today and i am so thankful. i don't know the names of anyone in their bakery department, but they saved me and they are amazing. to the store director, i suggest you reward these awesome ladies. read more
