I have been a loyal customer of this store for over 10 years. I have purchased hundreds of bouquets and countless other items here over the years. Yesterday's experience was so frustrating and upsetting that I honestly don't feel like returning anytime soon. I needed flowers for my niece's preschool graduation. Unfortunately, most of the bouquets in the floral department looked semi-wilted and far from fresh. After searching, I found one bouquet in a bucket that looked acceptable, but it needed wrapping. The bouquet was priced at $35. I asked the employee in the floral department, McKenzie, if she could add wrapping paper. She told me she could, but that it would be an extra charge. I was confused because every other bouquet in the department already had wrapping paper. After I questioned it, she reluctantly wrapped the flowers, but the result was rushed, sloppy, and unprofessional, with visible tape making the bouquet look unfinished and unattractive. I politely asked if she could at least add a short ribbon to cover the tape and make the bouquet look presentable for a graduation gift. She immediately said no and told me she would have to charge $5 for a small ribbon and send me off to front checkout although I always pay for flowers in the floral register . Throughout the interaction, her attitude was dismissive, rude, and unwelcoming. At one point, she even instructed me to stay behind the line in a manner that felt unnecessarily harsh and disrespectful. I asked her to check with a manager. She spoke to someone and returned saying the answer was still no. When I later spoke with a manager myself, I initially received little help. I was ready to leave the bouquet behind and walk out of the store when another manager stepped in and asked what had happened. I showed him the bouquet. To his credit, he immediately agreed that the wrapping was unacceptable and apologized for the experience. He personally escorted me back to the floral department and asked McKenzie to rewrap the bouquet properly and add a ribbon. Even then, McKenzie remained visibly annoyed. The way she handed the finished bouquet back to me felt almost as if she was throwing it at me. That was my final straw. I left the store feeling upset, shaken, and deeply disappointed. One employee's poor attitude can undo years of customer loyalty . I want to thank the manager who stepped in and resolved the issue professionally. Unfortunately, the behavior I experienced from McKenzie was some of the worst customer service I have encountered in a long time. Employees like this can seriously damage the welcoming atmosphere that has kept customers like me coming back for years. read more

First of all, (store wide) there are MUCH better brands than Kroger store brand. They really push that Kroger/Simple Truth label thing by just taking away any other choices. I have to go to another organic market for produce and organic food because Ralphs just won't keep it fresh/ carry it if it's not "their brand". This is annoying and unnecessary. We pay enough for groceries. I don't like being forced into 2nd rate store brands just so Kroger can own every dime. Some people might find this 5 star rating surprising. Not if they know the Kroger chain vs every other one out there. There are half a dozen major grocery chains in Southern California. Three are upscale and deserve to be in a separate category as they are considered gourmet specialty stores rather than every day workhorse supermarkets. One of them has a steep yearly membership fee -- I haven't even considered it. We depend on a few more health-oriented chains here but they don't have everything Ralph's (Kroger elsewhere) offers, and one of them discontinues their products so frequently that I don't even want to go there and fall in love with a product, make it a staple, only to be told, abruptly, it is carried no more. So back to Ralph's. There are a number of them near me, but this one in North Park/Copper Hill is in a class of its own. Huge, spotless -- literally gleaming -- stocked with all the best of the commonly sold product lines but also with some departments that are elevated to a level that rivals those specialty chains I mentioned above. The cheese, bread, wine, ethnic, and fruit/vegetable/plants departments are simply exceptional. What I also love about this network, is the Kroger brand. No one, and I mean no one, sells a better product line in the USA. Whenever I need anything that can be duped by Kroger, I pounce on it. The very best parmesan/romano blend shaker cheeses are made by Kroger. Pick up any other brand and you will see it is mostly cheese-free. Not Kroger. I buy them by the dozen -- excellent, good enough to fool me into thinking I grated the cheese myself. And, that is just one item. Similarly, the "saltines". They are excellent and don't crumble and break the way the name brand does. When Ralph's is out of Kroger saltines, I do without -- no other saltine comes close. I could go on and on -- higher quality, lower pricing. Why wouldn't I buy what Kroger slaps its label on? The store itself is perfectly lit, I relax the minute I am inside. Shiny floors, almost romantic lighting, soft but upbeat music, organized, vast and deeply stocked. This is a well managed venue of a truly superior chain supermarket. Parking is pretty good too and the neighborhood is leafy and lovely. That is just the summary of how much I love Ralph's ... don't even get me started on their cakes and pies (I am telling you, they have a Red Velvet cake for $16 that beats those at the best cakeries in Los Angeles. I guess my expectations for a grocery store are pretty up there because shopping here lately is a real disappointment. I go to this grocery store more than any other so I have seen the demise of the quality and customer service. I discovered long ago that the produce here is very sub par compared to other grocery stores around here. And I'm not complaining Ralph's to any local farmers markets or organic places. But the produce here is well below the quality of the neighborhood Albertsons. I have often seen mold on packaged strawberries and raspberries. Others spoil much faster than when bought from other stores too. I don't know the reason but it's just things I see. This last time they went in for for tomatoes. They were completely out of all varieties except some green Roma tomatoes. I asked the guy working in produce and he said very casually "whatever is out there is what we got, they are out or season." Mmm ok. I went to look for some raspberries and again completely out. Strawberries available were pale pink. Again I asked if there were any more somewhere I am missing. He said "what's out there is out there..." along with a lot of tough luck buddy attitude. Like excuse me for even asking! And I thought they sourced food from all over, this is not a farmers market or anything. I walked out and headed up the road to Albertsons to see if they had any "in season" produce. Guess what... fully stocked produce that looked great and ripe. Must all be in season here. And listen I know trucks don't come in sometimes and things run out but this is constant. Just poorly stocked. Food shelves too usually have the wrong items to fill in blank spaces, to appear not to be under stocked. So this review is because this is not the first time this has happened but rather the norm for that department. The cashiers have always been friendly and helpful. The managers can vary. Another time I came in to redeem a lotto ticket and an associate said we already counted the cash for the day and cannot open the drawer in customer service. It was 7pm. Customer service has just flat out dropped overall, aside from a few helpful worker. Produce is lower quality than ever in my 20 year history here. It just takes the convenience of a neighborhood store when you have to drive around to get quality food at multiple places. read more

If you can avoid this Ralph's location, I recommend doing so. The employees here are some of the rudest I've ever encountered. Asking for help feels like an inconvenience to them, and the attitude you get in return is unacceptable. If someone doesn't enjoy their job then quit , they shouldn't take it out on customers. I've been shopping at this store since it was Hughes Market. I probably spend $300 per week here. The handles on my paper bag broke today and a bottle of wine and jar of artichoke hearts broke in my driveway. It soaked everything else in the bag. I N went bd l to the store with the by broken bag and wet items with a receipt. I went back to the same checker that I had just checked out with. She asked me for proof. I downloaded an digital coupon item on the app and purchased it at the store. I checked my receipt and was not given the sale price. I tried the grocery pick up for the first time. There was a $20 coupon and I figured what the heck. The app is semi-easy to use. However, it didn't route me to the closest Ralph's by my house. When I went to pick up the groceries, I ended up at the close one and it was not the correct store. My fault not Decoro Ralph's. However the wifi/cellular at the Decoro location is impossible and makes life difficult retrieving grocerys or adding deals. Let's just say, I rolled out of bed and was Karen for Halloween. I apologized. Upon arriving at the correct store, the Fresh Fare on McBean Parkway I was greeted by Isabella. She came out with my groceries. She went to check out. The amounts differed from what was on the online receipt. Isabella saved the day. She made the corrections from the online offers to what the store reflected. Thank you Isabela for dealing with "Karen" and handling the transaction perfectly. Got home after buying food from Ralph's. I open up my daily harvest bowl that I brought from Ralph's and it looks super weird inside. I looked for the expiration date and it is way over the expiration date. Every time I buy something from Ralph's it is always expired or moldy. This place is absolutely horrible. I have shopped here since the store opened 20 years ago. It's always clean and pretty well stocked. The guys in produce work hard and are always friendly. My issue is that they keep replacing checkout lanes with self-serve lanes. Most of the time there is only one regular lane open. But if you buy liquor or medication, you can't use self-serve lanes. read more

Horrible deli now. Store is constantly out of everything. Don't see the point of going back.

I decided to give this market a try this morning after not frequenting this location for quite some time. Now I am well-aware of why I don't like going to this market. I am handicapped and use one of their electric scooters to do my shopping. Although I was there between 8:30 and 9 o'clock this morning the isles were cluttered with various products waiting to be put on the shelves which made it very difficult to get around. I also found it distasteful that one of the people stocking the shelves was blasting rap music. They had products on the floors on both sides of the isles. Also, in the deli section they used to have a system where you would pick a number and they would call you in order of your arrival. Today there was no such numbers so it became confusing when the one person working behind the counter tried to determine who was next. read more

I assumed he was asking for the Ralph's reward card because some ask in the beginning similar to using the self checkout machine. He then goes "Your ID card. You do realize you need to be 21" then scoffs. First of all, he needs to watch his tone. Who do you think you are? I even told him I thought he was talking about the Ralph's card and he goes "Well, I wasn't. You have to be 21 for alcohol." Do you think I'm stupid? Belittling customers like that, I don't appreciate the disrespect. Second, be clear about what "card" you are talking about instead of giving attitude towards customers. During these difficult Coronavirus times, I have to commend Ralph's on their handling of customers this morning. I know supplies of paper goods were exhausted, but I called to find out if they had gotten in a shipment. The phone was answered immediately, and a pleasant gal said yes. Went there at 7:50 AM and the line was long and orderly. The friendly attendants permitted about 50 shoppers in at a time. The Toilet Paper and Paper Towels were in abundance. You were permitted, two packages in total. There was bottled water. Still no eggs, and hand wipes. There was no price gouging. It went smoothly. When I left, it was still a long line. Don't know if everyone got there supplies. Hopefully this will settle down in the near future, and our supermarkets will be fully stocked again. read more

This branch doesn't keep all their self checkout lanes open. Instead they have one or two cashiers, close the self checkout aisle with the most available bays, and keep the self checkout aisle with the least registers open. I don't like self checkout, but when there is only one actual human being providing checkout service and the line is insanely long, I will use the self checkout option. However, since it's the self checkout lane with the fewest registers, even that becomes a ridiculously long process. There aren't enough employees on the floor to assist with all the checkout errors in the self checkout line, and it has become even more devoid of any pleasant experience. The store management needs to make a choice, manned registers to accommodate customers, or all the self checkout bays open, with employees to provide assistance. read more

I really, really want to shop at this store because it's local to me, and the Albertson's that is local to me has risen prices like crazy. The prices are pretty good and no issues with the customer service, but man....shopping in this place is like maneuvering through a corn maze. Displays on displays on displays clogging up every aisle, every end cap, and just everywhere. They don't even make sense, walk through the deli area and there are towering displays of alcohol, cupcakes, goldfish crackers all side by side. WHY?? - and heaven help you if you have to pass one other person with a cart. Two people can't fit down the aisles at the same time. I know grocery stores make money on product placement, but this store has gotten crazy greedy in the past year and it makes for a miserable shopping experience. On top of all that, when you finally check out with the one live employee (yet there are a dozen self check out lanes) and wheel your cart to your car, there are only a few cart corrals to put your cart back after unloading, and they're all tiny and all the way in the first row next to the store. I want to shop here so bad, please do better Ralph's! Until then, I'll be at Albertsons paying sky high prices to fund their renovation. read more

You rely on your neighborhood stores to offer good quality products at a reasonable price, especially during holidays. Today I made the big mistake of going to Ralph's to buy flowers for my mother. I did not get roses, I simply got a bouquet with daisies in it when I got through the register and was in a hurry, the lady told me it was $45 for the flowers. Second time that we have received a gift card form this Ralph's that had money stolen from the card. This store lacks security for gift cards and POS thieves are able to get the "hidden" access code and track the card to see when money is added. This one is a Visa card issued by US Bank and balance is tracked via prepaidgiftbalance.com. Prepaid folks want me to send card information plus my CDL to confirm that I own the card. Lady whom I spoke with on Sunday could not explain how that will prove ownership. Will try again on Monday as no supervisor available. Per once source I found, over 25% of all cards that are sold unsecured get stolen. My guess is that many people don't want to jump through these hoops to get the money. Only buy gift cards via mail from reputable company or from secured locations. Other card was from Kohls a couple years ago and they replaced card. read more

I refuse to shop at a place where the employees are rude to the customers. If you like where you work then your attitude will reflect it. There's a huge problem when those in managerial and/or supervisory positions speak to one another in Spanish saying that all white people are f***ing lazy while under the assumption that the white employees don't understand them. How many white employees work in this location? Not many. How are they treated by management? Not very well. The manager has them doing tasks that aren't theirs and then counsels them for not being productive. It's a hostile work environment and management needs to change.
