I took my pricey Oreck XL Graphite upright vacuum into Ralph's Sewing & Vacuum located in Palm Desert for repair. I told them the problem was it was hard to push & showed the man how one of the small wheels on the bottom wasn't turning. It was running perfectly otherwise with excellent suction. Inside the zipper was a thick, cloth-like filtration bag marked "Oreck" in large letters. I bought these Oreck-brand specialty bags (SaniSeal, Superior, HEPA Media, 5 Layers of Filtration) in a box of six for $50 at an Oreck store. A single filtration bag cost over $8.00. I had just recently replaced the bag & it was 90% empty. Because it was so expensive & just installed, I took a photo of it inside my vacuum, just in case it was taken at Ralph's. I picked up the vacuum & was charged $76.50. The next day I looked and--sure enough--my bag was gone. It had been replaced with a cheap-looking, plain white bag that had no identifying markings anywhere. Then I looked at the receipt. It said, "New bag tested works great" & they charged me $5.00 for the no-name bag. Why didn't they test the suction first, BEFORE they took my bag? They couldn't do an inspection (airflow & bag performance) using my existing, nearly empty expensive bag? If an empty bag was required for inspection, why didn't they use their own & then reattach my Oreck bag? It's easy. They repair and sell vacuums for a living::::::I can't believe they were unable to identify an expensive, genuine Oreck-brand, superior-quality, near-empty filtration bag. I went back to Ralph's & spoke with the nice owner. She told me they had needed to check the bag for the repair & they had thrown mine out. Remember, the vacuum suction was working great & was NOT the problem. They offered me a plastic bag of 8 unmarked DVC off-brand paper bags that sells for $14.98. I take care of my vacuum & would never use cheap paper bags like that. I'm hoping people will think twice before taking their items for repair at Ralph's Sewing & Vacuum. At least do what I did and if you can, take a photo before you go. read more

A relic from the past. I needed some expendible parts for a Sebo vacuum. I had two choices; order on line from an ecommerce site, or support a local business. I chose the latter, although "local" is stretchin it, as we live in Palm Springs. We called ahead to see that they had the necessary parts, bags and filters. We brought the macine in, as the gentleman on the telephone said he would install the new carpet roller brush (I could do it myself as it is a 30 second procedure. All went well, until I got home and opened the bag/filter fit and discovered that one piece was missing. Spoke to them on the phone and drove back the next day and received the missing part. Happy to do business with them, despite the small glitch. read more

4 very rude Hispanic woman working there. Never greated us said rude things to customers turning them away like they didn't want to work. They threw little insults to my daughter. All speaking Spanish which my daughter understood every word they said. Lied saying I never called them prior in the week. Insulting me as though I was lying about it. Then later the woman remembers but continued with lies. Said I know nothing about alterations because my daughters dress was a lot of work. Refused to even give me an estimate and the time frame needed was rediculous. This is not a professional alterations tailoring shop. Go elsewhere. I couldn't sleep after dropping off my daughters dress for that night seeing how rude they were. I was worried they were going to ruin it. So I went next morning picked up the dress. Took it to another place had my daughters dress done in three days instead of a month. Very bad vibes. Beware is all I can say. They carry all the best brands and are happy to let you try them all out on their carpet, unlike the big warehouse stores that sell vacuums by stacking them on a shelf and have no carpet for you to try out the priduct, and where the salesman knows nothing about his/her products. First of all, in the middle of one of the deadliest pandemics in world history, these people, in this tiny shop, don't wear masks...well not really. They will eventually put one of when a customer enters, but not really. The owner never wears a mask. They also do NOT make any attempt to distance. If you are trying to stay safe and healthy, this small, enclosed shop is one to avoid at all costs. I took my machine in to be serviced. As I walked in, I saw one of the employees not wearing a mask, and I just shook my head. It's so frustrating that others do not take the healthy and safety of others seriously at all. The worker noticed me and casually put on a mask that she kept behind the counter. Before I Even set my machine down, the worker ripped into ME for shaking my head at her carelessness! I was trying to quietly say, "I really wish you wore a mask." I never got a word out. All she kept doing was reaming me and saying that she didn't have to wear a mask when no one was in the store...to be fair, there were at least four other employees in the store, only one kind of was wearing a mask (mostly not covering her nose.) The worker was far alone. I just stood there and stared at her as she ripped into me. She was so very, very wrong and so very angry and defensive. She said something about other customers saying things about her not wearing a mask. When I suggested that might be why she was so defensive and angry (and WAY overreacting)...she interrupted me, and got more defensive. Mind-blowing really. She is deadly wrong and I get attacked. Nice, huh? I didn't even argue with her. I was trying to calm her down, but she kept harping on me shaking my head at her not wearing a mask. Obviously, her issues were far deeper than me. She refused to check in my machine, and asked another worker to take in my machine. I decided, at that point, it was best to take my business elsewhere. For good. I never yelled at this person, I never even argued with her. I tried to say, "that's not how masks work," in reply to her saying she put one on when she saw me. But I never was able to finish a single sentence. Truly flabbergasted by the whole experience. The best part, was when she dared me to complain about her to her boss...which I replied, "But your boss NEVER wears a mask either." These are not very nice people, anyway. (I have had another of my many machines serviced here, before, and I was not impressed by their "customer service.") But I wasn't looking to be friends with any of them, so I didn't care at that time. Sadly, it's obvious that they care nothing about their own health and safety, all working together in a small shop space without masks. Would you risk doing business with people like this? As I left, I kindly and sincerely turned and said that I only care about everyone being safe, and to please stay safe and healthy. In reply the worker put up her hand to dismiss me. read more

I have had my alterations on my finest clothing done here for 15 years. They are always perfection. I've taken my St John's and cheap golf skirts here. The result is always the same....perfect. I'm thinking of flying to the desert JUST to have some clothes altered by them. That should tell anyone what they need to know. It will cost me an $800 plane ticket. BEWARE - This place has poor customer service!! I was referred to this place by someone I highly respect and have quite a few items in need of alterations so I was prepared to give this place quite a bit of business. Mind you, I explained all of that ahead of time to the two women at the counter today. I had a dress on with a matching blazer that she took a look at and quoted me on. I also had the exact same set in a different color in the car. I told them I would quickly grab the other and put it on. I was told that because they were closing in 5 minutes no can do. Like I can't throw a dress on for them to pin in less than 5 minutes? And even if I couldn't, what's another few minutes for a potentially new/loyal customer who has multiple items. They again repeated that they are closing and that I would need to come back. Really?! Cant be just a little patient? I was already there and had the items with me!! These two women had a "I don't want to work" look on their faces as well, and that never helps anything. Anyway, don't need to tell you that I took my business elsewhere and of course, I'm having to do my due diligence in sharing my horrible experience with you guys! I've used Ralph's vacuum repair services twice over the years that I've had my Dyson. On both occasions they assisted me right away and dissected the machine quickly to figure out the cause of the concern that initially brought me in. On my most recent visit, the man (not sure if it was THE Ralph) came out from his workstation and figured our just what the problem was. I was then given a prompt quote, time to think about it and an estimated completion date. I placed my order and was on my way, anticipating the worst as far as prices go. I was called the day that was estimated and paid the exact amount quoted with parts and labor. To my surprise when I picked up the machine, it had been completely cleaned and polished. Now it works like a 'new' animal. I just can't imagine what I was walking on when I used the vacuum before I took it to Ralph's...yikes! read more

Poor customer service. I took my sewing machine in for routine service on a Monday. The lady clearly stated "The sewing machine guy will be here Thursday, so it will be ready Friday." I even confirmed it verbally asking if Saturday pick up would be okay and she said yes. The servicing fee was $109, I thought this was steep, as I usually pay around $60. I arrived Saturday morning to pick up and she was incredibly rude! She said "I never called you. It's not ready." I restated our conversation and reminded her that I even confirmed pick up day. She proceeded to go "check" on it. When she returned she said it needed a new bobbin case, which is a $15 piece, that she was charging $50 to replace. At this point, I requested my machine unserviced and I will never return to this business!!!! read more

I took my precious old Singer featherweight machine into another local repair shop and was told it wasn't worth fixing. I should just retire it. I took it to Ralph's for another opinion and the repair person fixed it quickly and efficiently and my Singer is back in business. Disappointed. I took my carpet cleaner in for repair after a few days they said they couldn't fix it. So we took it apart, found the part that broke, found it online and repaired it ourselves for $20. So I thought to myself, maybe I can do the same with my sewing machine they said they couldn't fix...sure enough, $5 part online. I like giving business to local companies, but I feel like if they're not going to get $100s from you, you're not worth their time.
