I was told a couple days later that it was a leaking radiator. I again requested to Cecil that the head gasket be checked before I picked it up and was told it was ok. Picked up the truck and the next day it started running hot. I dropped it back off and now surprisingly they say it's a head gasket plus a warped head. Well they didn't take the heads off so unsure how they can tell it's warped w/o xray vision. Now they say I must have let it overheat. I know for a fact it has never overheated and never got over 230. Engine runs at 210 normal operating temp. I asked from the very beginning to do a compression check or a check for compression gases in the coolant because I didn't want to put a lot of money in a truck with 240,000 miles so they made up this problem to get some money out of me anyways.

I purchased a 1992 Silverado Truck from a friend that was leaving the state. I went to Midas here in town and they said it was the belt, that I needed to change it. I informed them that the belt was a life time and it was brand new! I talked to a friend about the problem and he suggested I go see Clark's Garage on Kilgore Ave. here in Muncie, IN. I went over and talked to the main person there and made an appointment to have him check the vehicle out. After inspecting the truck he informed me that it looks like the crank was moving back and forth causing the rod bearings to make the ticking sound I was hearing after starting the engine. I talked to the previous owner and he said it had always done that. Hmmm! I felt confident about the mechanic after talking more to him and finding out that he, in fact, worked on Dragster engines for people and had been around engines since a young man because his father started the business there. His father sold the business, then it became available to purchase again, and then that is when it was purchased by the owner now. I had started rebuilding engines when I was 16 yrs. old and knew a thing or two about engines. I was put at ease by just talking to the main mechanic there, so let them do the work and found out that it was exactly what the mechanic said it was, the main thrust bearing was worn out and had cut away part of the crank letting it move forward and backward, putting pressure on the rod bearings that was making the ticking noise. While into the block that far I would have changed the timing chain and oil pump and, to my surprise, they had already done that! Yippee!!! A mechanic that repairs things as if it was his own vehicle. My kind of thinking for sure. I would recommend this garage to any customer looking for a garage that does good, honest work. At the same time, the price ended up being cheaper than the original quote.

I know they probably see tons of customers a week, but they made me feel like more than just another job, which meant the absolute world to me. Unfortunately, my best option was to get a new car. While I worked through everything with Hyundai and searched for a replacement, they've let me keep my car on their lot for a generous amount of time, leaving me with one less thing I've had to worry about during this very stressful time. We took our Escape in because the air conditioner is blowing warm air. We'd received a quote of…read more$280 from another shop to refill the freon and we suspect that something is leaking because it's not supposed to be warm. We had a fuel solenoid that was intermittently going bad and causing a service light to go off, I had ordered the part but was afraid to put it on myself. It was on the dashboard in a box marked "fuel solenoid" and I forgot to ask about it when the car was taken in for service. After a little while, the mechanic came in and asked us if we wanted the fuel solenoid installed since we had the right part in the vehicle. We were like, absolutely, and they put it right in. Our months of the service light coming on and off have been resolved and our AC is recharged for less than $90! The freon used who indicate a leak that will be exposed with UV dye in the freon if the air gets warm again. This is the second time that Dave's has cost less and done more than other shops for our vehicles. I think that Dave has a mother or a wife or sisters that he respects and appreciates because I have never felt like I was being taken advantage of as some shops do to women. New Damage While in Their Care My Range Rover was in the shop for front-end repairs after being hit by a Duke Energy truck. This was straightforward insurance-covered work, and there was absolutely no reason for anyone at the shop to touch my back seats. Yet, when I picked up my car, I noticed my rear seats had been folded down. Once I put them back upright, I discovered deep impressions in my leather -- damage that was not there before. This clearly happened because someone folded the seats down without clearing items off first, crushing them into the leather. 2. Lack of Accountability When I spoke with the owner, John, about this, he had no explanation. I asked if he checked cameras -- he said he doesn't have cameras in the repair area because he "trusts his guys." I asked if he spoke to his employees -- he said none of them had any idea why my seats were down. The fact is simple: my car was in his shop, and this damage occurred while it was under his care. On the phone, I explained that they had intentionally moved my dog's car seat off the back seat in order to fold them down, then placed it back afterward. Instead of owning up, he tried twisting my words, saying "Oh, I didn't know you had a kennel sitting on the seats," clearly implying my dog's "kennel" caused the damage, not his employees folding the seats down and smashing everything. I had to correct him -- it wasn't a kennel, it was a lightweight dog car seat weighing maybe five pounds. Not only was it unprofessional for them to be in my backseat at all (when only front-end work was being done), but they didn't even have the courtesy to move my belongings before folding the seats. The fact that the owner tried to spin this back on me was insulting and unprofessional. 3. Delays and Inconvenience It took them three weeks to arrange for the leather to be repaired (outsourced to another company). During this time, I asked about a rental or loaner. They said yes, but when I showed up, the only car they offered was a bright blue vehicle plastered with huge decals reading "Courtesy Loaner" and advertising Talent Autobody. I explained that I work with high-end clients and cannot show up in a car like that. The owner's response: "You didn't tell me decals would be an issue." No customer should have to specify that. Offering only a company-branded advertisement car as a loaner was inconsiderate and unprofessional. I had to scramble last minute to arrange my own transportation. 4. Poor Communication and Final Result After weeks of waiting, I finally got a call saying my car was ready. I asked how it looked -- the owner said "great." I asked if he could send me a photo before I made the trip, but he refused, saying he didn't have the ability. I asked if he had a phone -- he admitted he had a personal phone but not a "company phone." That excuse was absurd. In today's world, any professional shop can and should provide photo updates when asked. When it came time to pick up my Range Rover, they hadn't even been able to get all the impressions out of my leather seats. At this point, the owner told me he was "done with this" and had already "done more than he should have." That comment alone proves he does not take accountability for damages that occur at his shop. I have clear documentation -- photos of the damage, and a video after their so-called "repair" -- showing the impressions were never fully fixed. Bottom Line This shop damaged my vehicle, avoided accountability, wasted weeks of my time, offered me an embarrassing advertisement car as a "loaner," twisted my words to avoid responsibility, and ultimately gave up before the problem was resolved. At every step, I was met with denial, excuses, and a complete lack of professionalism. And this is just some of what I experienced while dealing with the owner of this company. If you value your vehicle and your time, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for autobody repairs. Talent Autobody Repair Shop caused me far more stress and frustration than the original accident did.
