Bottom line: Ralph Briseno Concrete is all about communication. Ralph came out and gave us an estimate on the entry to our home as well as a side yard, and he was upfront in telling us he wasn't into doing a "dump and run." He told us what he thought we should do and it made sense. The cost was more than I expected, but he explained that Costa Mesa homes are built on an unforgiving clay foundation that is better served with eight-inch thick concrete and rebar. Considering the existing entry was cracked, uneven and lifted in places, we couldn't argue with his logic, and for me, peace of mind goes a long way. Ralph said the project would take a week, and the project took a week. When his largest concrete mixer broke down, he drove back to his business to get another one. No panic. Easy peasy. A while later, Vivian showed up with parts to repair the larger machine. I can't swear to it, but I think I saw this sweet woman doing the repairs herself. Both Ralph and son Benjamin were there every day, digging in with picks, shovels and trowels alongside their staff. And when they left at 3:30 each afternoon, they cleaned up the area as if we were having a party in an hour and the guests were already showing up. Very professional and capable family owned and operated concrete contractor. We moved into our home about 6 years ago. Every year, we would have problems with water entering our garages when we had rainstorms. I had been using absorbent barriers and towels to wring out 5 gallon buckets of water out of the garage - not fun when it's raining at 2am!!!! I had several contractors come out to look at the problem, but none seemed to come up with a reasonable solution (short of re-grading) that would not be unsightly. I found Ralph Briseno Concrete through Yelp, called and spoke with Vivian who had Ralph come out a take a look at my issue. Ralph is extremely creative with coming up with solutions to unusual drainage issues. He determined that a "swale drain" would be the most cost effective permanent solution to my garage issue. Ralph, and his son Ben, came out and efficiently completed the demolition, adding the drains, and putting in the concrete swale - all while minimizing the inconvenience of not being able to use the garages during their work. They also observed all of the COVID protocols for our and their safety. We have had two rains now since they installed the swale drains and not a drop of water in the garages! I had a rotting wood floor on my little condo patio, and wanted to replace the wood with something low-maintenance that looked good. Most of the other companies I called and emailed didn't respond. The ones I did talk to gave me phone estimates that were more than I wanted to spend, or were too busy to discuss and take on a small job. I talked to Vivian on the phone several times - she was kind and patient with my questions. Ralph came out to look at my patio. I like the look of wood, so he suggested a plank pattern saw-cut onto the concrete. It looks so good! I recently used Briseno Concrete to remove and replace a block wall that had been partially pushed over by a giant bird of paradise plant. I'm extremely happy with the results. I can't say enough about the professional and complete work that Ralph and his team performed. I really liked that Briseno Concrete took care of everything. While the primary work was the block wall removal and replacement, Ralph also handled everything else, including the plant removal, drainage pipes, stucco, paint, etc. I didn't have to hire anyone else or do anything on my own. My quote included an additional work order that would be needed if the footing required replacement, which proved to be the case. Otherwise, whenever Ralph identified something unforeseen that wasn't too major, he simply completed the work as part of the job for the original quoted price. This included, among other things, an unforeseen broken drainage pipe underneath the wall that required replacement. They worked carefully to preserve the existing cap so it could be re-installed. When he didn't like the way a portion of the cap installation looked, without hesitation he removed it and reinstalled it again to his satisfaction. It's this level of pride in workmanship, combined with his knowledge of how to do things correctly, that really impressed me. I hired Ralph to put a new patio in the front of my house. Ralph came out and spent like an hour and a half going over every possible scenario with me. We came up with a really great design together. Ralph ALWAYS showed up on time and clearly cares very much about the quality of his work. He would forsee problems and make sure they were addressed before any concrete was laid. We ended up including electrical outlets in three different areas. This is almost my favorite part! Except the seat walls. Which are just perfect too. He even came up with a brilliant way to hide my sprinkler valves. He built a wall around them and then covered it with two removable squares of concrete. We even put our handprints in these removable squares so we can take them with us if we ever leave this house. What I love most about working with Ralph is the fact that it is a family business. His wife Vivian handles the paperwork and shows up on the job site regularly to help out. His (adult) children are also involved in the business and are really nice and also do an amazing job. You will not regret hiring Ralph. We just finished a drainage and concrete project with Ralph Briseno Concrete, and couldn't have been more pleased. From the initial bid through completion, the project went off without a hitch. Ralph is on the job himself, working alongside his skilled crew. He is extremely detailed, thorough and honest, and handled every issue that arose; rain, late dumpsters, missing city inspectors, etc., efficiently. He had a back-up plan for every possible situation. It rained 3 times in the 2 week span of our project, and his crew diligently tarped off the whole side yards and driveway expansion each time, so our pouring wouldn't be delayed. The city was supposed to deliver a dumpster he had paid for during the re-grading. While it was delayed several hours, he loaded up his truck with excess soil and hauled it to the dump himself. I could go on, but these exemplify the level of customer service and work quality he delivers. He explained every aspect of the project in detail, gave us options to suit our budget and went above and beyond in every way.
