Raleys, it's a grocery store. Obviously I hit the deli, and there's the usual hot foods, plenty of salads from meat to veggies. They even have a little sushi area too. I ordered the El dorado. Their rotisserie chicken, pepper-jack cheese, chipotle aioli, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, hatch chiles, jalapeno and pepperoncini. I'm am such a sucker for sandwiches! This thing is on a big piece of ciabatta, toasted in their panini press. This thing is soooooo delicious. They usually premade it which isn't the same but I somehow manage to get there when their cold case is empty so that means..... fresh hot rotisserie!!! This hits the spot everytime! The worker who took my order, the young man was trying to work as fast as he could considering he was way past his time to take a lunch. It was a bit long to make two sandwiches but I understand considering everyone else was helping someone. He was nice, apologized for the wait. He made a damn good sandwich! read more

WRONG we are not allowed to say names or shame the person who sucks any more. they took my old post because i said there names. so the person in the meat dep. is the only good person there and most of the front people are as sharp as marbles. i went there for two things and wanted to self check but all 6 stands only took card. I went in there to look for some cheese that I needed and a strawberry shortcake. I couldn't find it, so as I was walking out, the person in the store used a code over the intercom. As I was walking out the door, to my left was the security guard acting like he was on his phone. I walked out and looked behind me; he went back inside. The only reason I now shop there is for the made-up fresh deli trays of things like enchiladas, and their fresh fruit. The Store has gone down hill and I expect it to close. There are now few shopping carts, and those must usually be searched for in the parking lot. There are usually only one ot two checkers working. Self-checkout is always a problem. The manager is a very nice man. They no longer carry Dove ice cream bars, or Ritter Sport candy (although I get Raleys coupons in the mail or them). They rarely have the grassmilk and half and half that I use. Use my Something Extra card but am offended by the discounts that are only for online coupon users. Ambiance is poor compared to Walmart. read more

This place is just falling apart, every time you go to the register to check out you're asked, did you find everything you were looking for? And we always ask what's wrong with the produce? If it looks decent it will only last 1 day, look at the proof, the store is filthy especially in the produce isle, why is corporate not doing anything about it, because I've personally complained and seen other folks complaining to the manager of the store and nothing is done nothing at all, she won't even apologize for the inconvenience of returning food gone bad or bought expired off the shelves, you aren't going to tell me you can't find a hardworking individual that will do a better job than the current manager, I'm sorry but this place has never been worse. I would like to recognize Dave of the meat department at Rayley's (on San Pablo Dam Road in San Pablo, CA) for his help in guiding me through the process of choosing a beef rib roast for my Christmas dinner. I knew to come to Raley's since my elders have been going there for years, but I didn't know about the different grades of meats. Dave patiently shared his immense knowledge about rib roasts with me, giving me plenty of time to decide what to order. I can now relax and enjoy making Christmas dinner extra special by serving a prime rib roast. I needed to pick up some lettuce so I quickly ran in and got a couple of bunches of red leaf lettuce. I was at the self check out and over heard the store worker and the security guard talking about how he loves Chinese food and the security guard started saying " You know them ching chang chong chong"...he saw me looking at him and realized I am Asian and mumbled to himself "oh shit..." Raley's, the only grocery store in San Pablo (I am not going to count FoodMaxx that is off San Pablo Ave). Lucky shut down years ago and Raley's is the only grocery store that is still in business. Raley's surely updated their location. There is a Wells Fargo Bank inside that actually has tellers to help people out (expect to see a long line to see a teller). The time that I have gone to this location I can see the freeway from the hill. You have to be sure that there is not traffic on the freeway. If you go to Raley's to do your grocery shopping I suggest to return your cart. I have seen carts roll down onto San Pablo Dam Rd even though there are bumps that suppose to stop carts from rolling down. read more

If I'm going to experience that type of service I might as well go somewhere else. He lacks professionalism and service he spent more time saying what's up to the workers then helping the customer. As stated in a previous review it is not often I come to this location but OMG - why do I keep doing this to myself. I came here to get a grilled cheese sandwich and I come to this location because it is near a regular appt I have every 5-6 weeks. So today there weren't several people in line with 1-2 people working, usually 1 but I was able to walk right up. There was someone assisting a customer but after just a few moments, Yolanda walked over and offered to assist me. I ordered 2 sandwiches, a grilled cheese for myself and a turkey/Italian salami for a friend who was meeting me. I walked in the store at 2:00p - I ordered the sandwiches and Yolanda was extremely kind however, when she walked over, I had to first ask if she could please clean the sandwich area which was littered with lettuce scraps, the papers that separate the cheese, crumbs and 2 used knives. She walked to the back and returned with a towel happy to clean the area. I asked if she could start my grill cheese sandwich and while that was on the press melting, she could start the other sandwich which again she was happy to do. While making the sandwich she discovered both the tomato and onion bins needed to be replenished as what was left appeared to be scraps and would not have been enough for 2 sandwiches even if they were decent. She checked in the fridge below and NOTHING. She told me she had to retrieve the items from the back. I neglected to mention before making my cheese sandwich which is now on the press, she did not even have cheddar cheese sliced and available which is a basic option for a sandwich so she advised she would have to cut it. I then seized that opportunity to request smoked gouda instead. She was kind enough to advise she would be slicing it very thin to ensure it melted thoroughly, I thought it was great she even had the thought to do this. Okay, back to my friends sandwich (turkey/salami), so Yolanda comes from the back with the bin of onions and I reminded her she went back for tomatoes also to which she stated she had to go to the actual produce section to get tomatoes - WTHECK?? I'm like are you serious? She apologized and was extremely polite throughout our entire interaction. She advised they were a little short to which I advised I could tell she was doing her best and I was pleased with her customer service but not the conditions she was working in. This is not my first trip for a sandwich and I frequent Nob Hills/Raleys stores for sandwiches as the one in Alameda is very close to me and the location in Martinez is near one of my job sites. To say I was in disbelief would be an understatement. It honestly took slightly more than 20 mins to get 2 sandwiches of which only 1 was hot. Once all done, Yolanda again apologized and Thanked me for my patience. I will say again, my issue was never with her, she remained calm, professional and polite throughout and seemed just as dissatisfied but I just do not agree with all she had to go through to make 2 sandwiches. If someone was out or the store was just short, management is completely aware of this and they are also aware of the fact that this deli area can and does get quite busy so why was there not someone extra in that area who could have at least prepped for the two people who were over there working. It makes no sense and in my opinion shows little care/concern for their customers. Again, it's not foreign for this area to become crowded. When I initially walked up, there was one person in front of me being serviced and when I was finally done and walking away, there was another person being helped by the young man working with Yolanda but 5 customers waiting. So I grab chips, a drink and make my way to self - check. All 4 registers in use but the guy in front of me is just about done. I look over and there is a customer with her hand raised looking at the older woman cashier who was supposed to be monitoring the self-check area. The customer continued to watch and appeared to not really want to interrupt her. I said excuse me ma'am to which this woman looks right at me and I said, this customer here needs help. This clearly had no effect on her. She did not even acknowledge the customer but rather began speaking with another associate. At this point I'm like I literally have to get out of this store. Customer service no longer seems to be priority which is something I am not use to. I felt myself becoming upset that this woman was not being assisted but the cashier finally acknowledged the customer who again had to request assistance as if the cashier did not hear me. WOW! That interaction further disappointed me and if I had my way, this review would be 2.5 instead of 3 stars. Great beautiful well organized and incredible staff, the variety was incredible and all the shelves and fruits were organized and easy to find and pretty. I wanted to buy everything the only thing is it's a bit pricey however they did have some great deals plus daily freshly made sushi. A must stop in especially before Thanksgiving!!!!! read more

It's Raleys, which is on par with Safeway and Lucky in my book, which means that it's nothing special. They have good sales, but usually I find myself milling around the store, looking at promising foods, only to walk away empty handed. No thanks! Plus, it's pretty far out of the way for me and the trek there isn't worth it. So for me, I'd rather not go. If I'm going to go out of my way, I'd rather go to Trader Joes, Sprounts, Whole Paychex, etc. Unless I want fresh produce, my most local go to is Williams Natural. I'd hate to say it, but I guess I'm in an "anything but Raley's" kind of mood. It may have to do with my last time that I used to visit a lot. It was before I was gluten free and the company, VEAT, was being sold there dirt cheap. While there, for the Veat, I'd stroll the store. I was eating tons of sugar and noticed that holiday candy could be found there for dirt cheap after the holiday. So I'd peruse the aisles and can say that in the years I did that, that there was only a time or two that I actually purchased any. What a waste. Same with ice cream and other things. If I bought more boxes and cans for my meals, I'd probably have a reason to keep showing up. However, I'm the queen of fresh food, and other than occasionally going by there for some produce, at a time when I just happen to be driving past, I don't see the point of driving up the hill to visit them. read more

I shop at Raley's because it is close to my house and I have never experienced more rude, sullen, disengaged employees at any other place of business. On Saturday 8/27/22, I have the unfortunate opportunity to interact with Jacob. He was the checker on my aisle. The store was busy with only two checkers and there were several customers in line. I watched Jacob sell alcohol to two male customers without once asking for ID or date of birth. Now both gentleman looked like they were in the mid to late 50's. I am next and guess what? Jacob cards me, a 50 year old Black woman. It goes without saying that the two customers in front of me were not Black. I told Jacob that he really should apply store policy more consistently. NO response, NO eye contact, literally NO response. It is as if I do not exist. I pause waiting for some sort of response, nothing. After a short standoff in which I wait for some response to my statement and literally Jacob standing as still as a statue looking at the scanner, I realize this kid is bonkers! I supply my DOB and again no acknowledgment. As he scans the rest of my items still literally no words or eye contact from Jacob. He doesn't even ask if I want bags, no "your total is". Just this person staring at his scanner. I have never had a stranger interaction in that I have never been ignored by the employee who is actively assisting me. I state you really should acknowledge when people are speaking to you, especially as an employee. If you cannot speak with the public you should not work with the public. Jacob mumbles under his breathe looking at the scanner in front of him, "you're not my mom". I was like you are absolutely right I am not as I would have taught you how to speak to people. He again mumbles "you're not my mom" without looking up or moving. It was as hilarious as it was sad and infuriating that the best employee Raley's could find is an uncommunicative child who has not been or cannot be trained properly. Now I'm pretty sure this wasn't racially motivated but instead an incompetent employee who has obviously not been trained correctly. You either card people or you don't. You acknowledge customers when they speak to you. You respond, end of story. Now I know this is not going to result in any action by Raley's but I encourage any other shoppers to avoid Jacob's line as they will be treated as if they do not exist. read more

Terrible service. Overpriced. Exorbitant prices. Bakery staff was unable to understand English. Walked around in and out of the area while I was seeking assistance. Interrupted talking to me about an order to stand in front of me talking to some other store employee. Rude. I left. Returned later. Different staff in the bakery later. Walked around instead of providing service at the counter. Talked to me about an order, then suddenly walked off claiming that it's break time. Checkout lines are long forcing customers to use the self-checkout. The problem is that we need worker cooperatives to open grocery stores nearby so we can put Raley's out of business. Worst experience shopping here. Upon leaving, a tall man wearing bullet proof vest and face mask claiming to be security blocked me from exiting and was insistent I had stolen buzz balls. He asked to see in my purse and when I opened my tiny little purse for him to see, he physically stuck his hand into my purse and dug around through my things! My purse is 5"x7", shallow as can be. I've never felt more violated! It's against the law for him to touch me or my belongings. When I called to speak with the manager the the woman I spoke with was rude, unapologetic, and told me he had a right to dig thru my stuff! I'll never shop here again! The store itself has changed. The newer staff appear a bit overwhelmed at times, however, I have experienced EXCELLENT assistance from the bakery dept. (thank you, Yolanda) and the people in the meat dept. are available to answer questions. I know this should be a given in any retail environment but since Covid this has not been the case in numerous stores. I think they are a 100 times better than the Safeway near me and I'm willing to schlept for better food quality and service. Customer service is paramount. I was disappointed that the Wells Fargo pulled out but who knows who made that call. Another thing is that not haft the store is under lock and key. My only real 'issue' is that the delivery of in house bread is irregular. If that's my biggest issue in the world...I think I'll live....I would live better with the bread though. read more

I'll stay away from a political statement here... suffice to say I fully intend to exercise what is left of my freedoms to get out there and patronize all the normal businesses I can that are left open. I swing into Raley's to pick up fixings for dinner and weekly supplies... you know, the NORMAL shopping for the week. Da Grub: Looking for ground pork, tortellini, chicken broth, bacon, parmesan, ice cream, carrots, celery, Italian parsley, Barilla pasta, canned tomatoes, onions, garlic, chicken thighs, arugula, Peet's coffee, Strauss half & half, 2% milk, almonds, potato chips, dark chocolate, and optimistically, some toilet paper. To Raley's credit, I got EVERYTHING except the TP... pretty crazy, I thought supply lines would've replenished by now. With 2 girls in the house, I've got enough for the next 2-3 weeks - so I hope the "panic" buying stops soon, I mean there isn't REALLY a shortage of TP, once everyone has their 200 rolls of stock, it has to start gathering dust on the shelves at some point, right? Geez... Da Service: At 7:30am, it was not crazy busy, but busier than I thought it would be. There was a weird vibe from the customers, but the staff were holding it together and treating folks with care and patience. Store was stocked fairly well, clean and organized. Much appreciated! I still pick Raley's over TJ's, Safeway, and Lucky's... worth the bit higher prices for the shopping experience. Well once again, out dated perishables sold at this location. My husband went in the cold last night to get some of their $5 Monday items. He was in a rush. Didn't check expiration dates. Even tho this store is notorious for selling expired items. Sure enough, expired January 1st, 2019 We spend approx $1000 a month at this location. So obviously, I like Raleys, their butchers, cashiers & baggers are pleasant and helpful. But their constant sale of expired items are an issue. read more

I know prices are thru the roof at most groceries nowadays, but Raley's is ridiculous. Used to drop by once in a while, started shopping regularly during the pandemic b.c. they're open late and i was exposed to fewer people. Even late PM, store was well stocked; prices were reasonable, even meat and fish; bakery had a good selection of fresh bread; well stocked deli case; excellent produce. Everything fine until a few months ago. $7 for jar of BF mayo? Are you kidding me? $10 for my favorite Sugar Bowl cookies, only now package is 3/4 of original weight; by the time i get there, bread case is empty; sandwich selection is pathetic; and it goes on. I feel ripped off in nearly every dept. Even Safeway seems cheaper, and that's not saying much. Not worth the drive anymore; i'll be going back to Lucky's. read more

I live up the street from here I love this store!! There meet is fresh, clean wrappings , a huge variety of seafood and if you don't see what u want or need a better cut, them you can ring the bell and ask the meat cutter in the back and he will give you a " specialized cut " of meat. Its so clean !!! Its more pricey then food max or Safeway but I think it's worth it. They have excellent customer service. When the line gets backed up to three people , they automatically call someone to another cashier. There is always someone walking around that you can ask to locate an item. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 2: 4/100 Hubbers likes shopping here but I'm not sold on them having the best prices around - especially for fresh produce. We split our list of things to buy to be more efficient. One of the items for me to score was a yellow onion. I bounced myself to the produce section and every single one of those onions just looked SAD. They were old, had a lotta bumpies and just... SAD. (I so wanted to take pictures, but I left my phone in the car.) And for $1.69/lb?! No. We ended up going to another store not too far from here (to buy products Raley's doesn't carry) and got much better looking yellow onions for half the price. I came into today to get a cake from the bakery area. There was no one in sight to help me. A staff from the deli department informed me the bakery department is closed. The staff advised me that they're understaffed. Please Raley's hire more people and pay them well! In this day in age, corporation's make a lot of money but can never seem to pay their workers a decent live-able wage. I don't want to blame the staff that work here because they can only do so much but this company can improve their service if they can actually pay people what they deserve. read more

My brother is lower income, unwell and fragile so I wanted to buy him a Raley's gift card, as there is a Raley's close to where he lives in San Pablo. I live several counties away from my brother so called the San Pablo Raley's asking about purchasing a gift card. A very rude, abrupt employee told me I had to come into that store to buy the gift card. When I said I lived in Monterey County she said I still had to come in person to that store to purchase the gift card. Switching gears, after reading so many negative reviews about that particular Raley's I wouldn't want my brother limited to shopping there. So disgusted! I don't usually shop here there is a very rude clerk who just creeps me out and she is so rude too, if I see her working I just leave. For a long time they were the only grocery carrying the laundry detergent I like but they don't even do that anymore. But today was the kicker. I watched some random head of lettuce hit the floor and was there the whole time I cruised the produce section. A worker was there stocking the shelves nearby. She pushed her cart over to the lettuce, stopped and turned and looked at me. She picks up the lettuce and moves to the cart-cool she's going to dump it-but no she turns and stuffs it into the middle of the large pile of lettuce thereby contaminating the whole pile of lettuce. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was shortchanged $20 from the cashier. I did not leave the store; I turned around immediately (5 steps) after counting my cash and realized the mistake. When I brought it to the cashier's attention she was already ringing up the customer who was after me in line. I put the cash down on the counter, explained that I was short $20, and the cashier did not even acknowledge me. When she finished with the customer she walked away and came back with Mat who was the assistant lead cashier. Mat did not introduce himself and after I explained the issue he said he would call me back tomorrow. His tone was obnoxious, disrespectful and his demeanor was UNPROFESSIONAL. I pointed out that it would be an inconvenience for me to return tomorrow. Why not balance the register or check the camera footage? Still, Mat was RUDE and did not represent Raley's quality and service. When I pointed out that the cashier did not apologize for the inconvenience Mat sarcastically apologized. When I asked for a business card, he said he did not have any nor did he have any manager's business card. Raley's was always my go-to for shopping but it has gone steadily downhill. The clerks are unfriendly. The prices are high. The produce isn't very good anymore. And don't get me started on Raley's "coupons" that are supposed to lower prices for customers. They don't work and when I've asked for help from clerks they get upset and defensive and blame "corporate". I just want to get the price displayed on the shelf and I don't want to be yelled at by the people who work there because I'm having trouble. It is very very frustrating and upsetting.
