This is the best market in Merced bar none. They have all kinds of food selections if you want take out. They always have cashiers and they have self checkout. They offer tri-tip not just chicken in their hot takeout section. The fruit and vegetable section is my only gripe, not particularly plentiful. All in all, a really good market. read more

Terrible customer service. DO NOT SHOP HERE IF YOURE A PERSON OF COLOR. I was racially discriminated against. Just yesterday. I went to the self check out aisle and the machine that I chose was broken, given that it rejected my transaction even though I had enough on my debit card. Therefore, I ask for the checkout lady for help and explain that it's not accepting my card. I tell her that I have enough money for my transaction, and that I just need a new machine, given that this specific one has always had technical issues with me given I've been to Raleys numerous times before this. Following me telling her this and that the debit section of the machine doesn't seem to bring up a pin section for me to fill in, she says in a sarcastic tone "it's your card that's the problem, you don't have enough". She is also right next to the register and doesn't even check and just comes to that conclusion, and I then assert to her again that I have enough, way more than what's charged. She repeats the same spiel about how I don't have enough and says nothing for about a minute. Then, all of a sudden once a large group of people line up for self checkout, she abruptly changes her mind and does it at the self checkout main cash register where she is standing to save face. Most of the workers I had at self check out before would help if the machine broke, by going to the main self.checkout first and it's always resolved quickly but not in the case of this worker. Given I felt like I was being berated and treated poorly because I am brown, I even pull out my bank account on my phone to make sure there are no holds to double check, and still have more than 3 times the money that my charge was if she was going to question me again and I had to prove myself. Once my card goes through right away when she uses her cash register, she tells me "have a nice day with a bitter look, just because she didn't want anybody to suspect her of what she evidently did. This treatment: Completely unprofessional. It was obviously racially charged given I'm a person of color and she just jumped to the conclusion that I didn't have enough money and was showing that she didn't trust a word I said. However, when helping other white customers she was oddly pleasant to them. Completely ruined my experience with Raleys given I enjoyed their food and had been shopping there for 4 years, but now I vow to never come back to this establishment ever again. read more

I really don't do every day grocery shopping here because it does tend to be a bit pricey but it's around the corner from my house so it's super convenient especially with the self checkout option. I really appreciate their rewards program, if you're not a part of it I highly suggest you do! They send coupons for free stuff (based on shopping history) and $$ off coupons! read more

Amazing. New to Merced and I have tried all the stores in town comparing prices and so forth. This town is a giant ghetto so to find this gorgeous Raley's was a godsend. I won't shop anywhere else. Not only is the store immaculately clean, well stocked and attractive, but the customer service is top notch. I generally don't require an overly friendly staff, but this place is so damned pleasant with the employees inside and out, saying hello, and offering assistance, I'm getting very used to it. They do an outstanding job. I work in customer service and believe me it aint always easy. I love their deli, bakery area. Their store brand is very good. I also discovered a local coffee from Mariposa. When they didn't have my preferred flavor, then went looking and found it for me and did an exchange. They even offer to take groceries out to the car. This store is an oasis of beauty and civilization in and otherwise lackluster town. Sometimes I just want to stay in there all day. read more

I have had a few frustrating experiences at Raley's that have made me consider shopping elsewhere (think: out of town). I'll admit--I was spoiled by the Davis Food Co-op--but still, this is the 21st century, and Raley's needs to get on the ball. First, the self-check out lanes don't seem equipped to handle re-usable bags, and the manager rolled her eyes when I mentioned the issue. Next, they still have heirloom tomatoes in February, but they don't carry a lot of in-season local produce. This is one of the largest farming regions in the United States, after all. Finally, there is a nice bulk section in the Natural Foods area, but when I tried to bring in my own container, it took 4 staff-people to figure out how to charge me, after which the manager told me it's illegal for customers to use their own containers, and that the store could be fined for it. I realize this is not the Bay Area. For the most part, Raley's has been fine. But they are obviously not focused on local food or sustainable practices, and I think it's about time. read more

I visited your store today. I bought Chobani yogurt that was priced 4 for $5. I asked my checker if Raley's does price matching because the same product is on sale at Target for $1 each. She didn't know so she called the manager over and asked her the same question. The manager looked at me, laughed, and said, "well then go to Target!" I think that is the rudest thing she could have said. Are you kidding me? I think you have a beautiful store and I don't mind paying more at Raley's, but the one thing you are not allowed to do is treat me with disrespect. I will shop at Save Mart from now on. I don't mind the higher prices, that's usually an understanding when you go into any Raley's. With those expectations of high prices comes a hope that I would also be getting better customer service than some of the other less expensive grocery stores I could go to. That's usually the case for most of the Rayley's I go to, but every time I head into the one in Merced I get the worst customer service from the cashiers. Just going through the motions, so melancholy with no social skills. IDK how many times I maybe get a Hello and then my items get scanned without looking up at me the whole transaction just wanting to get me in and out. Some eye contact, some "Hey, how's is your day going?", "Did you find what you were looking for?", "How about that Laker loss last night" is not that hard. Make it seem like you actually want to be there, not just there going through the motions to collect a check. lol read more

This store drives me crazy! I want to support it since it carries certain gourmet items I can't find elsewhere in town, and it's the closest one to me. However...today was the last straw. Atrocious experience at self checkout. I was short on time, and all lanes were 3-deep, so I chose self checkout. (It was only 2 pm). The person in charge was on the phone and it took her 5 min to check the bag errors. First, fix these machines- they don't sense right. Second, don't have the person in charge taking phone calls! This is the main problem as they don't have a customer service counter. The same thing happens at the post office area where the employee is split between phone duty, post office duty, and shelf stocking (?) I've had to wait a long time until someone shows up there too. More... three different times I've gotten bad meat here. It expires before the date on the package. I've dumped ground beef, chicken thighs, and cubed beef. Also, the two times I got deli meat, it was half fat, which I had to trim at home, and the other time, the meat was laying over the side of the scale and there was no paper under it. I'm tired of giving them a second chance. I love Stephen, Kylene, and 1-2 more, but the rest seem more concerned about their breaks or whatever than customer service. Ugh - I guess I was spoiled by Publix, but if I'm paying those kind of prices, the service should match. read more

I have been going to Raley's pharmacy for many years. Recently they have begun to go down hill! It's hit or miss that they have the meds I need and there are a couple staff that are ridiculously RUDE! There is a new pharmacist that is over the top rude and she thinks she can override the prescriptions that the doctors order. I am going to stop going to this pharmacy because I can't tolerate that despicable behavior that comes out of some of the people that work behind the counter. If you want your prescriptions filled go elsewhere because like I said half the time they don't have it. I also used to go to the deli for a sandwich at lunch. I have called it in and picked it up without a glitch for two years. Two weeks ago I called in my order at 11 am and the person on the phone said it would be 30 min. I said, 30 min? I work I can't wait 30 min. The deli person said, "Well, I don't know what to tell you?" The next week I called the Raley's deli at 10:30am, 30 min early. The guy took my order and said it'll be 30 min. 35 min later I went to pick up my order. I asked the guy behind the counter if there was a sandwich for me. He yelled over the counter "Is it that El Dorado?" I said yes, and he replied, "We are short and we had to take care of people in the store, if you want a sandwich get a number and wait in line like everybody else does." He spoke to me with a hideous tone like he was a street monger! He yelled out across the counter like some sort of low class idiot! I went to the floor manager and she said she would make sure I got a sandwich comped. I had to wait 30 min. for a sandwich, that I called in at 1030am and it was 1140 by the time I got my sandwich. I don't know what is wrong with Raley's lately but their customer service has gone into the toilet. I spend $1000's at that store and have done for years, but due to the rude ugly staff I have decided to go to SAVEMART down the street. It's not worth the hassle to go to a store where you pay top dollar for the food etc to be treated like a second class citizen! read more

I ordered sliced turkey from the deli yesterday, 10/9/18. The young woman helping me asked if the slice she cut was too thin and I replied yes. She promptly tossed the piece of meat in the TRASH and continued slicing. I asked her what Raley's did with the leftover meats. "It's trash, we throw it out". FYI Raley's, people are starving. I always here about how expensive Raley's is. I'll admit it is a little more pricey that the average market. However, in my opinion, they have the freshest produce in town so the slightly higher price doesn't bother me too much...quality is rarely cheap. But for most other things, it may be cheaper to go to a different market. The bakery is pretty good and much better than say, savemart's bakery. They also serve Peet's coffee which is nice. Staff is friendly and if you live near by its a great place to quickly pick up a few essentials. read more

I was really impressed when I went shopping there. They had fresh turmeric root and the price per pound was not exorbitant. Their fresh produce was excellent! The customer service at the registers was also great. The cashier asked if I had a customer card and offered me one; they moved my sale over to a different register so an employee could help me get a customer card.
